Hariḥ oṁ tat sat!

Today we are continuing with the compilation of Śrī Kṛṣṇa Caitanya Book. Today's chapter is entitled as:

Phalaśruti – Gets Kṛṣṇa-bhakti and Kṛṣṇa, Part 1
Under the section: Śrī Nityānanda’s Return Journey to Nīlācala from Navadvīpa

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa, 7.128

nityānandera gauḍadeśa haite ānita taṇḍula gopīnāthera bhogārthe pradāna—

nityānanda gadādhara-bhikṣāra kāraṇe
eka māna cāula āniñāchena yatane

Jayapatākā Swami: Since Lord Nityānanda had been invited by Gadādhara Prabhu to take His lunch, He brought one mound (40 kilos) of rice and with great care He gave it Gadādhara Prabhu for offering.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa, 7.129

ati sūkṣma śukla deva-yogya sarva-mate
gopīnātha lāgi’ āniñāche gauḍa haite

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Nityānanda had brought very fine white rice, fit to be offered to Gopīnātha. He brought for Lord Gopīnātha from Gauḍa or Bengal.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa, 7.130

āra ekakhāni vastra—raṅgima sundara
dui āni’ dilā gadādharera gocara

Translation: Lord Nityānanda also brought a beautifully colored cloth. He brought both of these and it to Gadādhara Paṇḍita for offering.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa, 7.131

This is recommended that if you are going to see a deity bring some gift, so He brought rice and colored beautiful cloth. So, we should always bring some gift for the Deities as much as possible.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa, 7.131

gadādhara, e taṇḍula kariyā randhana
śrī-gopīnāthere diyā karibā bhojana

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Nityānanda said, “O Gadādhara, cook this rice, and, after offering it to Śrī Gopīnātha, you should eat it Yourself.”

So Lord Nityānanda also brought fine rice to be offered to Sri Gopinatha. So simultaneously after it is offered to Śrī Gopīnātha , Gadādhara Paṇḍita could eat it. So Lord Nityānanda was doing Kṛṣṇa seva and Vaiṣṇava-seva.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa, 7.132

taṇḍula dekhiyā hāse paṇḍita-gosāñi
“nayane ta’ e-mata taṇḍula dekhi’ nāñi

Jayapatākā Swami: On seeing the rice, Paṇḍita Gaḍai Gosāñi laughed and said, “I have never seen such rice before.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa, 7.133

e taṇḍula gosāñi, ki vaikuṇṭhe thākiyā
yatne āniñāchena gopīnāthera lāgiyā

Jayapatākā Swami: “Oh Nityānanda Gosāñi, this rice must have been brought from Vaikuṇṭha, and You carefully brought the rice to be offered to Gopīnātha.

So, we can see that it must have been very nice rice and the fine rice from Bengal have a scent like Basmati or Govinda bhoga, they are scented rice and they are very fine. So this must have been something exceptional.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa, 7.134

lakṣmī-mātra e taṇḍula karena randhana
kṛṣṇa se ihāra bhoktā tabe, bhakta-gaṇa”

Jayapatākā Swami: “Only Lakṣmī devī alone cooks such rice and Kṛṣṇa eats it. and then the devotees enjoy His remnants.”

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa, 7.135

ānande taṇḍula praśaṁsena gadādhara
vastra lai’ gelā gopīnāthera gocara

Jayapatākā Swami: After joyfully glorifying the rice in this way, Gadādhara took the cloth and went to offer it to Gopīnātha.

All the things were offered to Gopīnātha and this was a great service that Lord Nityānanda had done.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa, 7.136

divya-raṅga-vastra gopīnāthera śrī-aṅge
dilena, dekhiyāśobhā bhāsena ānande

Jayapatākā Swami: Gadādhara Paṇḍita decorated the transcendental form of Gopīnātha with the fine, beautiful, colored cloth. After giving it, seeing the beauty of the Lord, Gadādhara floated in ecstasy.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa, 7.137

gadādharera randhana-kārya o ṭoṭā haite śāka-cayana—

tabe randhanera kārya karite lāgilā
āpane ṭoṭāra śāka tulite lāgilā

Jayapatākā Swami: Then Gadādhara prabhu, he performed the cooking sevā and then he picked some of the spinach from the Deity’s garden.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa, 7.138

keha bone nāhi—daive haiyāche śāka
tāhā tuli’ āniyā karilā eka pāka

Jayapatākā Swami: No one had planted that śāka; it grew there naturally. Gadādhara picked it and brought it and cooked it.

Śāka, in the West they have one kind of spinach but the green leafy vegetable which has been cooked, it is called śāka and there are dozens of varieties of śākas in Bengal. They cook thirteen varieties for me. Lord Caitanya, He enjoyed the śāka that grew naturally in the forest. So, in the śākas, some are bitter and some more sweet. And one helencha-śāka grows in the lotus pond, and there are a variety of śāka.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa, 7.139

teṅtula vṛkṣera yata patra sukomala
tāhā āni’ vāṭi tāya dilā loṇa-jala

Jayapatākā Swami: Gadādhara prabhu he picked soft, newly grown, very sour tamarind leaves, which he ground into a paste and mixed with salt water.

Gadādhara is famous for preparing tamarind chutney, Lord Caitanya said whenever he prepares tamarind chutney, I will be there. Apparently he prepared a tamarind preparation.

Purport: The phrase loṇa-jala refers to salty water from the ocean.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa, 7.140

tāra eka vyañjana karilā amla-nāma
randhana karilā gadādhara bhāgyavān

Jayapatākā Swami: The fortunate Lord Gadādhara then prepared a vegetable preparation known as amla, he cooked it.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa, 7.141

gadādhara-kartṛka gopīnāthera agre bhoga-pradāna—

gopīnātha-agre niñā bhoga lāgāi
lāhena-kāle gauracandra āsiyā mililā

Jayapatākā Swami: By placing the offering before Lord Gopīnātha, he offered it, at that time Lord Śrī Gauracandra came there and met all of them.

I told you that whatever Gadādhara Paṇḍita makes, especially the tamarind teṅtula preparations, Lord Caitanya would be there.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa, 7.142

gauracandrera āgamana o bhaktera nimantraṇe prīti-jñāpana—

prasanna śrī-mukhe ’hare kṛṣṇa kṛṣṇa’ bali’
vijaya hailā gauracandra kutūhalī

Jayapatākā Swami: With great satisfaction Lord Gauracandra joyfully chanted the Hare Kṛṣṇa mahā-mantra when He came there.

So, Lord Caitanya was teaching everyone gṛhe thāko vaṅe thāko, sadā haro bolo ḍāko, whether you are gṛhastha or in the renounced order, always chant the Hare Kṛṣṇa māhā-mantra.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa, 7.143

‘gadādhara, gadādhara’, ḍāke gauracandra
sambhrame gadādhara vande pada-dvandva

Jayapatākā Swami: Gauracandra then called out, “Gadādhara! Gadādhara!” and Gadādhara Prabhu quickly came and offered his obeisances to the Lord’s two Lotus feet.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa, 7.144

hāsiyā balena prabhu—“kena gadādhara!
āmi ki nā hai nimantraṇera bhitara?

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Caitanya then smiled and asked, “O Gadādhara, why I am not included in your invitation list?

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa, 7.145

āmi ta’ tomarā dui haite bhinna nai
nā dile o tomarā, balete āmi lai

Jayapatākā Swami: “I am not different from you both. Even if you don’t give Me anything, I will take it by force.

Lord Caitanya was joking with Gadādhara Prabhu and Lord Nityānanda that He should be invited and if They do not invite Him, He will take it by force.

Thus ends the chapter entitled, Phalaśruti – Gets Kṛṣṇa-bhakti and Kṛṣṇa, Part 1
