Under the Section: The Lord’s Attempt to Go to Vṛndāvana

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.260

‘āi’ra kṛṣṇa-prapatti—
āi jāne avatīrṇa prabhu nārāyaṇa
yakhane ye icchā tāna kahena temana

Jayapatākā Swami: Mother Śacī knew that her son was Lord Nārāyaṇa, who had appeared on earth, and that He would speak whatever He desired.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.261

kato-kṣaṇe āi balilena ei mātra
“tomāra vacana bujhe kebā āche pātra

Jayapatākā Swami: After a few moments Mother Śacī simply said, “Who is capable of understanding Your words?”

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.262

prāṇa-hīna-jana yena sindhu-mājhe bhāse
srote yahi laye, tahi calaye avaśe

Jayapatākā Swami: “The conditioned souls are like dead bodies floating in the water of the ocean, wherever the current takes them, they certainly go there.

Purport by Śrīla Bhaktisiddhāta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura: See Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam (6.15.3).

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.263

ei mata sarva-jīva saṁsāra-sāgare
tomāra māyāya ye karāya tahi kare

Jayapatākā Swami: “All living entities in the ocean of material existence are forced in this way to act under the dictation of Your illusory energy.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.264

sabe bāpa bali ei tomāre uttara
bhāla haya ye-mate se tomāra gocara

Jayapatākā Swami: “My dear son, I can only say that You alone know what is good for everyone.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.265

stuti, pradakṣiṇa kibā kara namaskāra
muñi ta’ yā bujhi kichu ye icchā tomāra”

Jayapatākā Swami: “I understand that You do as You like, whether You circumambulate, offer prayers, or offer obeisances.”

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.266

bhāgavatagaṇera jaya-dhvani—
śuniyā āira vākya sarva bhāgavate
mahā-jaya-jaya-dhvani lāgilā karite

Jayapatākā Swami: After hearing Mother Śacī’s words, all of Lord Caitanya’s devotees began to chant auspicious sounds like, “Jaya! Jaya! Hari Bol! Hari Bol!”

Haribol! Haribol!

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.267

‘āi’ra apūrva bhaktisīmā—
āira bhaktira sīmā ke balite pare
gauracandra avatīrṇa yāṅhāra udare

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Gauracandra appeared from the womb of Mother Śacī, therefore who can describe the extent of her devotional service? So, Mother Śacī was such a divine personality, Lord Caitanya said that, “she is Yaśoda, she is Devakī, she is Pṛṣṇigarbha and various sacred mothers, who had Kṛṣṇa or His expansions as their children. So Mother Śacī by carrying Kṛṣṇa Caitanya Mahāprabhu in her abdomen, by giving Him birth and by taking care of Him during His childhood, even in the youth, she was such a special devotee. But she was always very humble and this pleased all the pure devotees and they gave auspicious sounds called “jaya-dhvaniwhich mean chanting hari-bol or jaya and ladies ulu-dhvani

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.268

‘āi’-nāmera mahimā—
prākṛta-śabde o ye vā balibeka ‘āi’
‘āi’ śabda-prabhāve tāhāra duḥkha nāi

Jayapatākā Swami: Even if one utters the word āi as a mundane word, by the influence of the word āi one will be freed from all suffering.

Purport (by Śrīla Bhaktisiddhāta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura:) If the respectable Śacīdevī, the mother of Gaura, is addressed in the uncultured language as āi, all one’s miseries will be destroyed.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, this shows the great power of Mother Śacī, If one addresses her as āi or mother, then all their material sufferings will be destroyed. So remembering Mother Śacī is a great benefit for the conditioned souls.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.269

“āi’ra santoṣe sakalera santoṣa—
prabhu dekhi' santoṣe pūrṇita hailā āi
bhakta-gaṇa ānande kāhārao bāhya nāi

Jayapatākā Swami: Mother Śacī became fully satisfied on seeing Lord Caitanya, and the devotees lost external consciousness in loving ecstasy.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.270

ekhāne ye haila ānanda-samuccaya
manuṣyera śaktite ki tāhā kahā haya

Jayapatākā Swami: Human beings have no power to describe the transcendental happiness that was experienced here.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.271

“āi’ra santoṣe nityānandera ānanda—
nityānanda mahāmatta āira santoṣe
parānanda-sindhu-mājhe bhāsena hariṣe

Jayapatākā Swami: When the greatly intoxicated Lord Nityānanda saw how happy Mother Śacī was, He joyfully floated in an ocean of transcendental ecstasy.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.272

‘āi’ra prati advaitācāryera devakī-stuti—
devakīra stuti paḍi' ācārya gosāñi
āire karena daṇḍavat—anta nāñi

Jayapatākā Swami: Advaita Acārya Gosāñi recited prayers glorifying Devakī while offering unlimited prostrate obeisances to Mother Śacī.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.273-274

haridāsa, murāri, śrīgarbha, nārāyaṇa
jagadīśa-gopīnātha-ādi bhakta-gaṇa

āira santoṣe sabe hena se hailā
parānande yehena sabei miśāilā

Jayapatākā Swami: Devotees headed by Haridāsa Ṭhākura, Murāri Gupta, Śrīgarbha, Nārāyaṇa, Jagadīśa Paṇḍita, and Gopīnātha ācāryas became so happy on seeing Mother Śacī’s satisfaction that they appeared to merge in transcendental ecstasy.

All these devotees seeing the transcendental satisfaction and bliss of Mother Śacī, also began completely floating in the ocean of transcendental bliss themselves.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.275

ei parānada-prasaṅga-pāṭha o śravaṇaphale kṛṣṇa-prema-lābha avaśyambhāvī—
e saba ānanda paḍe, śune yei jana
avaśya milaye tāre kṛṣṇa-prema-dhana

Jayapatākā Swami: Anyone who reads or hears these ecstatic pastimes will certainly attain the wealth of ecstatic love for Lord Kṛṣṇa.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.276

‘āi’ra haste prabhuke bhikṣā karāibāra janya ācāryera prabhu-samīpe anumati-grahaṇa—
‘prabhure dibena bhikṣā āi bhāgyavatī’
prabhu-sthāne advaita lailā anumati

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Advaita Ācārya then took permission from Lord Caitanya for the fortunate Mother Śacī to cook for Lord Caitanya.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.277

asaṁkhya apūrva upacāre āira randhanera udyoga—
santoṣe calilā āi karite randhana
prema-yoge cinti’ ‘gauracandra-nārāyaṇa’

Jayapatākā Swami: As Mother Śacī went to cook in great satisfaction, with love she thought, “Lord Gauracandra is Lord Nārāyaṇa Himself.” The devotees were very satisfied to render some service for the Lord, and the devotees rendering service to Lord Caitanya are receiving mercy of Lord Caitanya. So, by the mercy of His Divine Grace AC Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda who had given unlimited service to the devotees, and he said you are not in different temples, like Melbourne or temples in the West, you are actually in Vaikuṇṭha, the spiritual world. So, by engaging in Kṛṣṇa’s or Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu’s service we get the highest spiritual bliss, and just by hearing these pastimes we will certainly attain the wealth of ecstatic love for Kṛṣṇa, kṛṣṇa-prema, this is the highest goal of human life.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.278

kateka prakāre āi karilā randhana
nāma nāhi jāni hena rāndhilā vyañjana

Jayapatākā Swami: Mother Śacī cooked such a variety of vegetable preparations that I do not know the names of them all.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.279

viṁśati prakāra prabhu-priya-śāka-randhana —
āi jāne—prabhura santoṣa baḍa śāke
viṁśati prakāra śāka rāndhila eteke

Jayapatākā Swami: Mother Śacī knew that Lord Caitanya was very fond of śāka (spinach), so she cooked twenty different varieties.

One time, devotees in Māyāpur cooked as many śāka preparations that they were able, śāka is different kind of green leafy vegetable like spinach, but spinach is one type but there are many types. But those devotees in Māyāpur made 13 varieties, Haribol! but here it says Mother Śacī cooked twenty!

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.280

bahuprakāra vyañjana-randhana—
ekeka vyañjana—prakāra daśa-biśe
rāndhilena āi ati cittera santoṣe

Jayapatākā Swami: To her hearts satisfaction Mother Śacī cooked a variety of vegetables in twenty or thirty different preparations.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.281

aśeṣa prakāre tabe randhana kariyā
bhojanera sthāne pare thuilena laiyā

Jayapatākā Swami: After cooking unlimited different preparations, Mother Śacī took them to the dining room and set them down.

We can see that Mother Śacī, although she was considered great by Lord Caitanya, and He glorified her, Advaita Ācārya prabhu also glorified her, but she was so satisfied, her heart was so satisfied to serve her beloved Lord Caitanya. And its not that by receiving praise she was any different. Her desire was to render service, and that is what gave her satisfaction, that her divine son would be satisfied.

Haribol!
