ati amānuṣī dekhi' sakala sambhāra
citte yena prabhura haila camatkāra

Jayapatākā Swami: On seeing those extraordinary arrangements, the Lord Caitanya's heart was struck with wonder.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.470

prabhu bale,—“e sampatti manuṣyera naya
ācārya ‘maheśa’ hena mora citte laya

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Caitanya said, “These opulences are not possible for an ordinary human being. I think Lord Advaita Ācārya must be Maheśa.”

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.471

manuṣyero eteka ki sampatti sambhave!
e sampatti sakale sambhave mahādeve

Jayapatākā Swami: “How can an ordinary human being possess such opulence? Only Lord Mahādeva possesses such opulence.” Lord Caitanya is glorifying Advaita Gosāi for all the wonderful arrangements that has been made for observing Mādhavendra Purī’s festival day, wonderfully. So, He was pointing that Advaita Ācārya must be an avatāra of Lord Śiva. Actually, Lord Advaita Ācārya is the combined form of Māha-Viṣṇu and Sadāśiva so what Lord Caitanya is saying is actually true.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.472

bujhilāṅa-ācārya maheśa-avatāra”
ei mata hāsi' prabhu bale bāra bāra

Jayapatākā Swami: “I can understand that Lord Advaita Ācārya is an incarnation of Lord Maheśa.” Lord Caitanya smiled as He repeatedly spoke in this way.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.473

parama sukṛtimāna vyaktirai mahāprabhura mukhodgīrṇa advaitra-tattva sānande grahaṇa—
chale advaitera tattva mahāprabhu kaya
ye haya sukṛti se paramānande laya

Jayapatākā Swami: In this way Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu indirectly actually glorified the actual position of Lord Advaita Ācārya. A pious person accepts this truth with great pleasure.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.474

advaita-pādapadma koṭi-candra-suśītala haileo caitanye aviśvāsī vā caitanya-vimukha vyaktira nikaṭa agni avatāra —
tāna vākye anādara anāsthā yāhāra
tāre śrī-advaita haya agni-avatāra

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Advaita Ācārya is like the incarnation of fire for anyone who is faithless and who disrespects the words of Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.475

yadyapi advaita koṭi-candra-suśītala
tathāpi caitanya-vimukhera kālānala

Jayapatākā Swami: Although Lord Advaita Acarya is as cooling as millions of moons, He is like the fire of destruction for persons averse to Lord Caitanya.

Purport by Śrīla Bhaktisiddhāta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura: After seeing various opulences and the arrangement of foodstuffs at the house of Śrī Advaita, Gaurasundara became greatly pleased and encouraged Advaita Prabhu and future ācāryas following in the footsteps of Advaita Prabhu to conduct festivals with great opulent like this. But envious people engaged in service with great opulence desire to go to hell by considering Him primarily concerned with opulence. The minimization of the Ācārya's position because of His external display of opulence in the course of His own cultivation of sweetness may be considered proper in the eyes of impersonalists, but it is not approved by either Gaurasundara or His devotees. The devotees of the Lord are like fire or Yama, the lord of death, for those who are envious of the Lord and the devotees.

When the Gauḍīya Maṭha conducted festivals, processions, and other opulent functions to benefit the living entities, the sinful sahajiyās initiated in the principle of enviousness practiced by members of the Kuliyā apa-sampradāyas brought about their own inauspiciousness by criticizing the activities of the servants in the Gauḍīya Maṭha. Those people, who were envious of Lord Caitanya, realized that the activities of the ācārya were like fire that burns sinful reactions to ashes and cried out, “O father, O mother, help!”

Jayapatākā Swami: So, His Divine Grace Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura held various big festivals and Navadvīpa dhāma parikramā and other expressions of Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu's devotion. So, these were not appreciated by certain apa-sampradāyas and that they were actually of Lord Caitanya’s opulence and cannot consider properly the glories of Lord Nityānanda and Lord Advaita Ācārya and their followers are also not able to appreciate the activities of the ācāryas in the guru-paramparā. Like this His Divine Grace AC Bhaktivedanta Swami spread this message around the world, the gaura-vāṇī. Some people are there who didn’t appreciate but they are like faithless people who don’t get the mercy of Lord Caitanya.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.476-477

eka ‘śiva’ nāma sadya sarvatra amaṅgalahārī —

sakṛt ye jana bale ‘śiva’ hena nāma
seha kona prasaṅge nā jāne tattva tāna

sei-kṣaṇe sarva pāpa haite śuddha haya
vede śāstre bhāgavate ei tattva kaya

Jayapatākā Swami: Even if one does not know the glories of Lord Śiva, simply by chanting his name once one will immediately be purified of all sinful reactions. This is the verdict of the Vedic literatures and the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam.

Purport by Śrīla Bhaktisiddhāta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura: It is described in the Vedic literatures and in the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam that one who in spite of not knowing Śiva's glories chants his name even once is by the influence of his name purified of all sins. Simply by the mercy of either Śrī Hari, Guru, or Vaiṣṇava the living entities can become liberated from the sinful reactions that induce one to enjoy the material world. Those who consider the spiritual master and Śrī Śiva separate from the Supreme Lord commit offense. As soon as one becomes averse to Hari, he is swallowed by sin. The worship of Śrī Guru and Vaiṣṇava is more essential than the worship of the Supreme Lord. These topics are confirmed by the Lord, who is known as bhakta-vatsala, He who is very affectionate to His devotees.

Jayapatākā Swami: Since the twelfth canto of Śrīmad-bhāgavatam explains that Lord Śiva is the greatest of all Vaiṣṇavas, Vaiṣṇavānām yathā śaṁbhuḥ so by thinking of Lord Śiva as a devotee one is purified , but if one is offensive to Lord Śiva then he is an offender to the Supreme Lord. So this science of Kṛṣṇa consciousness is explained here in the purport.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.478

hena ‘śiva’ nāma śuni' yāra duḥkha haya
sei jana amaṅgala-samudre bhāsaya

Jayapatākā Swami: One who becomes unhappy on hearing the name of Lord Śiva floats in an ocean of inauspiciousness.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.479

tathāhi (bhāg 4 /4/14)

yad dvy-akṣaraṁ nāma gireritaṁ nṛṇāṁ
sakṛt prasaṅgād agham āśu hanti tat
pavitra-kīrtiṁ tam alaṅghya-śāsanaṁ
bhavān aho dveṣṭi śivaṁśivetaraḥ

Translation: “My dear father, you are committing the greatest offense by envying Lord Śiva, whose very name, consisting of two syllables, śi and va, purifies one of all sinful activities. His order is never neglected. Lord Śiva is always pure, and no one but you envies him. Alas, you are the personification of inauspiciousness!”

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.480

kṛṣṇapriyatama śivera pūjā-vimukhera kṛṣṇa-pūjā-chalanā dāmbhikatā mātra—
śrī-vadane kṛṣṇacandra bolena āpane

“śiva ye nā pūje, se vā more pūje kene?

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇacandra declared with His own mouth, “Why would anyone who does not worship Lord Śiva, why would they worship Me? Sometimes devotees get confused and they disrespect Lord Śiva or his worship. Worshipping Lord Śiva as a Vaiṣṇava is very auspicious and appropriate but those who think of Lord Śiva as an independent god or equal to or greater than Lord Viṣṇu, that is offensive. One should worship Lord Śiva as greatest of all Vaiṣṇavas and naturally that will be very pleasing Lord Kṛṣṇacandra.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.481

mora priya śiva-prati anādara yāra
ke-mate vā more bhakti haibe tāhāra”

Jayapatākā Swami: “Lord Śiva is very dear to me, how can a person who disrespects him, attain My devotional service?”

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.482

sarvāgre śrī-kṛṣṇa-pūjā o tatpare kṛṣṇa-prasāda-nirmālye kṛṣṇapriya śivera pūjā tadanantara sarvadeva-pūjā, ihāi vidhipūrvaka pūjākrama; pramāṇa—tathāhi—
kathaṁ vā mayi bhaktiṁ sa
labhatāṁ pāpa-puruṣaḥ yo madīyaṁ paraṁ bhaktaṁ
śivaṁ sampūjayenna hi

Jayapatākā Swami: “How can a sinful person who is envious of the Vaiṣṇavas attain devotional service if he does not respectfully worship My dear devotee Lord Śiva?”

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.483

“ataeva sarvādye śrī-kṛṣṇa pūji' tabe
prīte śiva pūji' pūjibeka sarva-deve”

Jayapatākā Swami: “Therefore one should first worship Lord Kṛṣṇa, then after worshiping Lord Śiva with love, he should worship all the demigods.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.484

Translation: ” So, first one should offer Viṣṇu or Kṛṣṇa the first worship and the first prasāda should be offered to Lord Śiva, who is the greatest of all the vaiṣṇavas and then to all the devas.

advaitācārya sei śiva-tattva— kali-kālera aparādhigaṇa tāhā nā bujhiyā śivake svatantra parameśvara-rūpe sthāpana-pūrvaka pāṣaṇḍa-madhye gaṇita haya—tathāhi skanda-purāṇe —
prathamaṁ keśavaṁ pūjāṁ
kṛtvā deva maheśvaram
pūjanīyā mahābhaktyā
ye cānye santi devatāḥ

In the Skanda Purāṇa it is stated:

Translation: “First one should worship Śrī Kṛṣṇa, the Supreme Personality of Godhead and cause of all causes, then one should worship Maheśvara, the best of the demigods, thereafter one should worship all the demigods with full devotion.

Jayapatākā Swami: Since the demigods are considered the parts of Nārāyaṇa, since they are carrying out some confidential work in maintaining the universe. Therefore, they are considered dear to Lord Viṣṇu, but first we worship Lord Viṣṇu or Lord Kṛṣṇa and then Lord Śiva, the greatest of all devas, and then all the other devas.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.485

hena ‘śiva’ advaitere bale sādhu-jane
seha śrī-caitanyacandra-iṅgita-kāraṇe

Jayapatākā Swami: Because of Lord Caitanya's indication, Lord Advaita Ācārya is accepted by saintly persons as that Lord Śiva.

Purport by Śrīla Bhaktisiddhāta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura: Śrī Caitanyadeva has revealed that Śrī Advaita Prabhu is viṣṇu-tattva as the upādāna-kāraṇa (ingredient cause of creation), or the pure Maheśa-tattva. That is why the devotees accept Śrī Advaita Prabhu as equal to the Supreme Lord. The reason that unalloyed Vaiṣṇavas do not see or associate with Rudra is because the acceptance of Rudra as the Supreme Lord independent of the Supreme Lord is certainly an offense against the holy names. If one accepts Śiva as only a guṇa-avatāra and not as a devotee of the Supreme Lord, he commits a grave offense.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, Śiva-tattva is between Viṣṇu tattva and jīva-tattva so it is very difficult to understand, he is greater than any living entity, but he is subordinate to the Supreme Lord, Viṣṇu or Lord Kṛṣṇa and He is also a devotee of Lord Kṛṣṇa. He chants on his rudrākṣa bead the holy names of the Supreme Lord.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.486

ihāte abudha-gaṇa mahā-kali kare
advaitera māyā nā bujhiyā bhāle mare

Jayapatākā Swami: Ignorant people who pick up arguments and quarrel in this regard, do not understand Lord Advaita 's illusory energy and the glories and are therefore vanquished.

Thus ends the chapter entitled, Observing the Arrangements of Advaita Ācārya for the festival, Lord Caitanya is Pleased and Glorifies Advaita Ācārya.
