Setu-bandha Sarovara Part 1
Under The Section: The Lord Travels to Vṛndāvana

Murāri Gupta Kaḍaca 4.5.1: Having rested, Bhagavān Gaura then sang with great eagerness and open throat about Śrī Kṛṣṇa’s pleasure-pastimes. Filled with the mellows of bhakti and great eagerness, tears of pure love dropped from His eyes.

Murāri Gupta Kaḍaca 4.5.2: From moment to moment He would inquire, "Kṛṣṇa Dāsa, tell Me - is this long night now ended? It is giving Me pain.”

Jayapatākā Swami: So, Lord Caitanya was finding painful to wait to the end of the night to visit the pastimes places of Lord Kṛṣṇa.

Murāri Gupta Kaḍaca 4.5.3: Kṛṣṇa Dāsa would reply, “He Nātha! Hear from me: The length and breadth of Mathurā Maṇḍala is said by learned men to be 84 krośas.”

Jayapatākā Swami: So, this is the entire Vraja-Maṇḍala and the Parikramā goes around Vraja-maṇḍala.

Murāri Gupta Kaḍaca 4.5.4: “Oh! Bhakta-vatsala, If Your Grace can maintain steadiness of mind, I shall gradually show all the tīrthas to You in sequence and it will bring happiness to me.”

Jayapatākā Swami: So, Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu will go on Vraja maṇḍala Parikramā.

Murāri Gupta Kaḍaca 4.5.5: “Some distance to the north of the Agastya kuṇḍa, please look upon this reservoir of water named Setu-bandha, personally created by Śrī Kṛṣṇa.”

Caitanya Maṅgala, Śeṣa-khaṇḍa 2.114

dekhaha agastyakuṇḍa nairṛte tāhāra
setubandha-sarovara uttare ihāra

Translation: To the southwest of Kaṁsa Kūpa is Agastya kuṇḍa. To the north of Agastya kuṇḍa is Setu-bandha Sarovara.

Jayapatākā Swami: This Setu-bandha Sarovara was created personally by Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa.

Murāri Gupta Kaḍaca 4.5.6: Hearing this Lord Caitanya became covered by pulakas with great wonder, and He said respectfully, "O Kṛṣṇa Dāsa! Kindly describe about this lake in detail."

Jayapatākā Swami: So, Lord Caitanya was eager to hear how Lord Kṛṣṇa created this lake and all the glories of this lake.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Śeṣa-khaṇḍa 2.115

e bola śunite prabhu ki! ki! bali ḍāke
aṅga ācchādila ghana aṅgera pulake

Translation: Hearing this, Lord Caitanya cried out loudly, “ki! ki!” His body was covered by the bodily hairs standing up.

Jayapatākā Swami: It is one of the aṣṭa-sāttvīka bhāva symptoms to have your hairs standing on end that means Lord Caitanya was experiencing loving ecstasy.

Murāri Gupta Kaḍaca 4.5.7: Drinking through his ears the ambrosial words of Śrī Gauracandra, and remembering Śrī Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Dāsa smiled brightly and replied as follows:

Caitanya Maṅgala, Śeṣa-khaṇḍa 2.116

setubandha-sarovarera śuna vivaraṇa
sāvadhāne śuna prabhu hañā ekamana

Translation: “O Lord Caitanya, please listen carefully to the description of the Setu-bandha Sarovara.”

Murāri Gupta Kaḍaca 4.5.8: “Once upon a time, Śrī Hari, the chief among all rasikas, who delights in tasting sweet relishable mellows in the midst of the assembly of gopikās., while sporting like a young elephant within this very lake, He announced, ` I am Śrī Rāmacandra, the best of the Raghu dynasty!”

Jayapatākā Swami: So, since all the avatāra they come from Kṛṣṇa, He is the origin the Supreme Personality of Godhead. So, since all the avatāra they come from Kṛṣṇa, He is the origin the Supreme Personality of Godhead. So, that means He is also Lord Rāmacandra from Raghu dynasty.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Śeṣa-khaṇḍa 2.117

ekakāle āche kṛṣṇa gopīgaṇa-mele
rāsakrīḍā kare ei sarovarakule

Translation: Once, Lord Kṛṣṇa was amidst the assembly gopīs and performed rāsa-krīḍa on the banks of this sarovara.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Śeṣa-khaṇḍa 2.118

rādhāke kahila—āmi sei raghunātha
rāvaṇa mārila āmi vānarera sātha

Translation: Lord Kṛṣṇa told Śrī Rādhā, “I am that Raghunātha and I killed Rāvaṇa with the association of the monkeys.”

Murāri Gupta Kaḍaca 4.5.9: “Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī, the crest-jewel of all damsels, responded, ` You are only a cow-herd’s son and your occupation is to herd cows. The king Rāmcandra is the protector of truth and virtue and His task is certainly a very impossible task for you.”

Jayapatākā Swami: So, Rādhārānī would always challenge Kṛṣṇa in her mood of love.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Śeṣa-khaṇḍa 2.119

e bola śuniñā rādhā mucaki hāśaye
michā kathā kahe kṛṣṇa-ei ta’ āśaye

Translation: While listening to Lord Kṛṣṇa, Śrī Rādhā smiled, thinking that Lord Kṛṣṇa was telling lies.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Śeṣa-khaṇḍa 2.120

dekhiyā tarasta hañā puchaye rādhāre
ki lāgiyā hāsa rāi bolaha āmāre

Translation: Seeing this, and shocked, Lord Kṛṣṇa asked Śrī Rādhā, “Why do you laugh Rādhā. Tell me.”

Caitanya Maṅgala, Śeṣa-khaṇḍa 2.121

rādhā bole–michā kathā nā baliha āra
tumi se kemane haile rāma-avatāra

Translation: Śrī Rādhā replied, “Don’t tell falsehood anymore. How did You become the avatāra of Rāma?”

Murāri Gupta Kaḍaca 4.5.10: “Building a bridge to Laṅkā and destroying the demon Rāvaṇa is Lord Rāmacandra’s very beautiful activity. Don’t venture to broadcast Your own qualities and compare Yourself to Him, for You are nothing but a thief of the clothes and ornaments of young girls!”

Caitanya Maṅgala, Śeṣa-khaṇḍa 2.122

mahājitendriya teṅho parama īśvara
tomāte sambhave nāhi tāṅra vyavahāra

Translation: Lord Rāma is great conqueror of the senses and He is the Supreme Personality of Godhead and so it’s not possible for You to behave like Him.

So, like this Śrīmatī Radharani is challenging Kṛṣṇa, this is how Kṛṣṇa is tested, how the loving affairs between Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa go on.

So, first Monday of every month is normally the Latin American RGB, today the GBC Organisational Committee has called an urgent meeting with the Indian GBC and others, so that why we are late today, we will end here and continue tomorrow. Since Monday is the day with the Chinese devotees and they are on the east, so it’s very late for them, may be they can be on the other day not on the first Monday, I will wait for your suggestions.

Thus ends the chapter entitled, Setu-bandha Sarovara Part 1
