Introduction: We are continuing with the compilation of Caitanya līlā book, the chapter entitled today is:

Śuka Sings the Glories of Kṛṣṇa; Śārī Sings the Glories of Rādhā, Part 2

Under the Section: The Lord Travels to Vṛndāvana

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 17.222

bhaṭṭera yatne prabhu sustha:—

kaṇṭaka-durgama vane aṅga kṣata haila
bhaṭṭācārya kole kari’ prabhure sustha kaila

Translation: When the Lord rolled on the ground, sharp thorns injured His body. Taking Him on his lap, Balabhadra Bhaṭṭācārya pacified Him.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, Balabhadra Bhaṭṭācārya was taking care of Lord Caitanya. So when Lord Caitanya in His ecstasy rolled on the ground, he had some thorns that injurued Him, but He was not aware because He was in ecstatic love and Balabhadra Bhaṭṭācārya cared for Him.

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 17.223

premābeśe prabhura haridhbani:—

kṛṣṇāveśe prabhura preme garagara mana
‘bol’ ‘bol’ kari’ uṭhi’ karena nartana

Translation: The mind of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu wandered in ecstatic love of Kṛṣṇa. He immediately stood up and said, “Chant! Chant!” Then He Himself began to dance.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, Lord Caitanya crying out bolo!bolo! which means chant! Chant! And He himself danced in ecstasy.

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 17.224

kṛṣṇanāma-kīrtana, prabhura yātrā:—

bhaṭṭācārya, sei vipra ‘kṛṣṇa-nāma’ gāya
nācite nācite pathe prabhu cali’ yāya

Translation: Being thus ordered by the Lord, both Balabhadra Bhaṭṭācārya and the brāhmaṇa began to chant the holy name of Kṛṣṇa. Then the Lord, dancing and dancing, proceeded along the path.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, hearing the pastimes of Lord Kṛṣṇa in Vṛndāvana, Lord Caitanya became filled with ecstatic love and He started to chant and dance and Balabhadra Bhaṭṭācārya and the Sanoḍiyā Brāhmaṇa chanted with Him.

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 17.225

viprera vismaya o prabhura janya cintā:—

prabhura premāveśa dekhi’ brāhmaṇa—vismita
prabhura rakṣā lāgi’ vipra ha-ilā cintita

Translation: The brāhmaṇa was astounded to see the symptoms of ecstatic love exhibited by Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu. He then became anxious to give the Lord protection.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, we can see that Lord Caitanya He exhibited the symptoms of ecstatic love which were not visible normally and the brāhmaṇa was concerned how to protect the Lord when He is not at all conscious of His body.

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 17.226

purī haite vṛndāvana-yātrāra pathe adhikatara premāveśa:—

nīlācale chilā yaiche premāveśa mana
vṛndāvana yāite pathe haila śata-guṇa

Translation: Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu’s mind was absorbed in ecstatic love at Jagannātha Purī, but when He passed along the road on the way to Vṛndāvana, that love increased a hundred times.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, Lord Caitanya was manifesting such ecstatic love in Jagannātha Purī is unimaginable, and now on the way to Vṛndāvana, His ecstatic symptoms are hundred times more, so Lord Caitanya was fully conscious of Kṛṣṇa.

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 17.227

tadapekṣā mathurā-darśane, tadapekṣā vṛndāvana-bhramaṇe adhikatara prema:—

sahasra-guṇa prema bāḍe mathurā daraśane
lakṣa-guṇa prema bāḍe, bhramena yabe vane

Translation: The Lord’s ecstatic love increased a thousand times when He visited Mathurā, but it increased a hundred thousand times when He wandered in the forests of Vṛndāvana.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, on the way to Vṛndāvana His ecstasy had increased a hundred times and when He visited Mathurā, it increased a thousand times but when He visited the forests of Vṛndāvana, it increased to a hundred thousand times, beyond anything one can express.

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 17.228–229

sākṣāt vṛndāvane āsiyā anukṣaṇa gāḍha kṛṣṇa-preme magna:—

anya-deśa prema uchale ‘vṛndāvana’-nāme
sākṣāt bhramaye ebe sei vṛndāvane

abhyāse dainika kṛtyādi-samāpana:—

preme garagara mana rātri-divase
snāna-bhikṣādi-nirvāha karena abhyāse

Translation: When Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu was elsewhere, the very name of Vṛndāvana was sufficient to increase His ecstatic love. Now, when He was actually traveling in the Vṛndāvana forest, His mind was absorbed in great ecstatic love day and night. He ate and bathed simply out of habit.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, Lord Caitanya having the heart of Rādhārānī, when He reached Vrindavan His prema increased so much that it is impossible to evaluate.

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 17.230

prabhura ai prema abarṇanīya:—

ei-mata prema—yāvat bhramila ‘bāra’ vana
ekatra likhiluṅ, sarvatra nā yāya varṇana

Translation: Thus, I have written a description of the ecstatic love Lord Caitanya manifested in one of the places He visited while walking through the twelve forests of Vṛndāvana. To describe what He experienced everywhere would be impossible.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, we can understand from this that Lord Caitanya in every forest was experiencing unique and different ecstatic symptoms and the author, Krsnadasa Kaviraja is simply explaining one of the forests. Actually we can understand from this that in every forest He was experiencing hundreds and thousands of times' ecstasy

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 17.231

bhagavān śeṣerao prabhura vṛndāvana-bhramaṇakālīna prema-varṇane asāmarthya

vṛndāvane haila prabhura yateka premera vikāra
koṭi-granthe ‘ananta’ likhena tāhāra vistāra

Translation: Lord Ananta writes millions of books elaborately describing the transformations of ecstatic love experienced by Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu in Vṛndāvana.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, it means that the ecstatic loving symptoms of Lord Caitanya cannot even be expressed by Anantadeva, what to speak of ordinary living entities.

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 17.232

ei paricchede tāhāra dig-darśana varṇita mātra –

tabu likhibāre nāre tāra eka kaṇa
uddeśa karite kari dig-daraśana

Translation: Since Lord Ananta Himself cannot describe even a fragment of these pastimes, I am simply pointing out the direction.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, the transcendental loving ecstasy that Lord Caitanya was manifesting is not possible to be described completely. So the author is saying that he is simply pointing out a general indication.

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 17.233

kṛṣṇa-prītira gāḍhatvera parimāṇānusāre kṛṣṇa-caitanya līlā banyāra sparśa:—

jagat bhāsila caitanya-līlāra pāthāre
yāṅra yata śakti tata pāthāre sāṅtāre

Translation: The whole world became merged in the inundation of the pastimes of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu. One can swim in that water to the extent that he has the strength.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, Lord Caitanya’s appearing on the earth, His visit to Vṛndāvana, show that the whole world can be inundated with love of Krsna by His example. So, people should be, by His mercy, tasting pure love for Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa.
