mūkaṁ karoti vācālaṁ paṅguṁ laṅghayate girim
yat-kṛpā tam ahaṁ vande śrī-guruṁ dīna-tāraṇam
paramānandaṁ mādhavaṁ śrī caitanya iśvaram

Introduction: We are continuing with the compilation of Caitanya līlā book, the chapter entitled today is:

Śuka Sings the Glories of Kṛṣṇa; Śārī Sings the Glories of Rādhā Part 1

Under the Section: The Lord Travels to Vṛndāvana

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 17.208

kṛṣṇa o rādhāra svapakṣe śuka-śārīra gāna-śravaṇa:—

vṛkṣa-ḍāle śuka-śārī dila daraśana
tāhā dekhi’ prabhura kichu śunite haila mana

Translation: When a male and female parrot appeared on the branches of a tree, the Lord saw them and wanted to hear them speak.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, Kṛṣṇa understand could understand the language of the animals and the birds. So Lord Caitanya wanted to hear the male parrot Suka and female parrot Sari.

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 17.209

śuka-śārikā prabhura hāte uḍi’ paḍe
prabhuke śunāñā kṛṣṇera guṇa-śloka paḍe

Translation: Both parrots flew onto the hand of the Lord and began to chant the transcendental qualities of Kṛṣṇa, and the Lord listened to them.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, it is not usual that birds will fly into your hands, because Lord Caitanya is Kṛṣṇa Himself, all the animals, birds of Vṛndāvana are connected to Kṛṣṇa therefore they could land in the hand of Lord Caitanya.

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 17.210

śukera kṛṣṇa-guṇa-gāna:— Govinda-līlāmṛte (13.29)

saundaryaṁ lalanāli-dhairya-dalanaṁ līlā ramā-stambhinī
vīryaṁ kandukitādri-varyam amalāḥ pāre-parārdhaṁ guṇāḥ
śīlaṁ sarva-janānurañjanam aho yasyāyam asmat-prabhur
 viśvaṁ viśva-janīna-kīrtir avatāt kṛṣṇo jagan-mohanaḥ

Translation: The male parrot sang, “The glorification of Lord Kṛṣṇa, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, is beneficial to everyone in the universe. His beauty is victorious over the gopīs of Vṛndāvana, and it subdues their patience. His pastimes astound the goddess of fortune, and His bodily strength turns Govardhana Hill into a small toy like a ball. His spotless qualities are unlimited, and His behavior satisfies everyone. Lord Kṛṣṇa is attractive to everyone. Oh, may our Lord maintain the whole universe!”

Purport: This verse is found in the Govinda-līlāmṛta (13.29).

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 17.211

śuka-mukhe śuni’ tabe kṛṣṇera varṇana
śārikā paḍaye tabe rādhikā-varṇana

Translation: After hearing this description of Lord Kṛṣṇa from the male parrot, the female parrot began to recite a description of Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, the male parrot sang the glories of Kṛṣṇa and the female parrot is singing the glories of Śrīmatī Rādhārānī.

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 17.212

śārīra rādhikā-guṇa-gāna:—

Govinda-līlāmṛte (13/30)--

śrī-rādhikāyāḥ priyatā su-rūpatā
su-śīlatā nartana-gāna-cāturī
guṇāli-sampat kavitā ca rājate
 jagan-mano-mohana-citta-mohinī

Translation: The female parrot said, “Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī’s affection, Her exquisite beauty and good behavior, Her artistic dancing and chanting and Her poetic compositions are all so attractive that they attract the mind of Kṛṣṇa, who attracts the mind of everyone in the universe.”

Purport: This verse is also found in the Govinda-līlāmṛta (13.30).

Jayapatākā Swami: So, Rādhārānī is Kṛṣṇa-mohīnī, therefore it is said that Rādhārānī was glorified, Her exquisite qualities attract the minds of Kṛṣṇa who attracts everyone in the universe.

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 17.213

punaḥ śuka kahe,—kṛṣṇa ‘madana-mohana’
tabe āra śloka śuka karila paṭhana

Translation: Thereafter the male parrot said, “Kṛṣṇa is the enchanter of the mind of Cupid.” He then began to recite another verse.

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 17.214

śukera gāna, —kṛṣṇai ‘madana-mohana’—

Govinda-līlāmṛte (13|31)—

vaṁśī-dhārī jagan-nārī-
 citta-hārī sa śārike
vihārī gopa-nārībhir
 jīyān madana-mohanaḥ

Translation: The male parrot then said, “My dear śārī [female parrot], Śrī Kṛṣṇa carries a flute and enchants the hearts of all women throughout the universe. He is specifically the enjoyer of the beautiful gopīs, and He is the enchanter of Cupid also. Let Him be glorified!”

Purport: This verse is also found in the Govinda-līlāmṛta (13.31).

Jayapatākā Swami: So, the Śuka paki, the male parrot is entering into a kind of competition where he glorifies the qualities of Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa.

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 17.215

punaḥ śārī kahe śuke kari’ parihāsa
tāhā śuni’ prabhura haila vismaya-premollāsa

Translation: Then the female parrot began to speak jokingly to the male parrot, and Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu was struck with wonderful ecstatic love to hear her speak.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, the female parrot sings the glorifies of Rādhārānī, the exchange between the female and male parrot is inspiring Lord Caitanya with great ecstatic love.

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 17.216

śārīra gāna,—kṛṣṇera madana-mohanatvera mūle śrī-rādhā:—

Govinda-līlāmṛte (13|32)—

rādhā-saṅge yadā bhāti
tadā ’madana-mohanaḥ’
anyathā viśva-moho ’pi
svayaṁ ’madana-mohitaḥ’

Translation: The female parrot said, “When Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa is with Rādhārāṇī, He is the enchanter of Cupid; otherwise, when He is alone, He Himself is enchanted by erotic feelings even though He enchants the whole universe.”

Purport: This is another verse from the Govinda-līlāmṛta (13.32).

Jayapatākā Swami: So, Śārī, the female parrot is saying that Kṛṣṇa is not complete without Rādhārānī.

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 17.217

mayūra-darśane prabhura kṛṣṇa-rūpa-smṛti o mūrcchā:—

śuka-śārī uḍi’ punaḥ gela vṛkṣa-ḍāle
mayūrera nṛtya prabhu dekhe kutūhale

Translation: Both parrots then flew onto a tree branch, and Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu began to watch the dancing of the peacocks with curiosity.

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 17.218

mayūrera kaṇṭha dekhi’ prabhura kṛṣṇa-smṛti haila
premāveśe mahāprabhu bhūmite paḍila

Translation: When the Lord saw the bluish necks of the peacocks, His remembrance of Kṛṣṇa immediately awakened, and He fell to the ground in ecstatic love.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, Lord Caitanya had being reminded of Lord Kṛṣṇa, and He was overwhelmed with ecstatic love and He fell to the ground unconscious.

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 17.219

bhaṭṭācārya-saha brāhmaṇera prabhuke śuśruṣā:—

prabhure mūrcchita dekhi’ sei ta brāhmaṇa
bhaṭṭācārya-saṅge kare prabhura santarpaṇa

Translation: When the brāhmaṇa saw that Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu was unconscious, he and Balabhadra Bhaṭṭācārya took care of Him.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, the Sanoḍiyā Brāhmaṇa was taking Lord Caitanya on His Vṛndāvana Parikramā and saw Lord Caitanya fal unconscious. So, he and Balabhadra Bhaṭṭācārya took care of the Lord

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 17.220

āste-vyaste mahāprabhura lañā bahirvāsa
jala-seka kare aṅge, vastrera vātāsa

Translation: They hastily sprinkled water over the Lord’s body. Then they took up His outer cloth and began to fan Him with it.

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 17.221

prabhura -karṇe kṛṣṇanāmoccāraṇa, prabhura cetana o avaluṇṭhana:—

prabhu-karṇe kṛṣṇa-nāma kahe ucca kari’
cetana pāñā prabhu yā’na gaḍāgaḍi

Translation: They then began to chant the holy name of Kṛṣṇa into the Lord’s ear. When the Lord regained consciousness, He began rolling on the ground.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, Lord Caitanya hearing the glories of Kṛṣṇa and Rādhā became overwhelmed with ecstatic love. Even when He regained His consciousness, he was rolling on the ground. The glories of Rādhārānī are unparalleled and with Kṛṣṇa, His greatest devotee Radha is appreciated. So, as the Hlādini śaktī or the pleasure potency of the Lord, Rādhārānī is able to satisfy Kṛṣṇa like no one else and Her qualities are very special. She is the only one who is the controller of māha-bhāva, the highest ecstasy of Kṛṣṇa prema. So, Lord Caitanya wanted to realize this transcendental bliss that Rādhārānī experienced in loving Him. We can see Lord Caitanya, He gets overwhelmed with ecstatic love hearing the qualities of Kṛṣṇa and Rādhā.

So, on this sacred day I want to thank all the devotees, who have distributed the books and who have sponsored the books, I hope that by Bhadra Pūrṇimā we can achieve our goal of distributing at least 4,000 sets of Śrīmad-bhāgavatam. I also thank all the devotees on this sacred day of Śrī Rādhāṣṭami, it is my 51^st Anniversary of me taking sannyāsa, I hope that the disciples, well-wishers will help me in fulfilling Śrīla Prabhupāda instructions.
