mūkaṁ karoti vācālaṁ paṅguṁ laṅghayate girim
yat-kṛpā tam ahaṁ vande śrī-guruṁ dīna-tāraṇam
paramānandaṁ mādhavaṁ śrī caitanya iśvaram
hariḥ oṁ tat sat
Introduction: We are continuing with the compilation of Caitanya līlā book, the chapter entitled today is:
Seeing the Boyhood Pastime Places Part 2
Under the Section: The Lord Travels to Vṛndāvana
Murāri Gupta Kaḍaca, 4.7.8
dhenukasya vadha cātra kṛpayāsya vimocanam
kālīya-damanaṁ cātra hradaṁ paśya sunirmalam
Translation: “In this place the ass-demon named Dhenukāsura was slain, and by Lord Kṛṣṇa’s mercy he received liberation from material bondage. Look at this crystal-clear lake. Here Lord Govinda subdued the great snake named Kālīya.”
Caitanya Maṅgala, Śeṣa-khaṇḍa 2.193
dhenuka māriyā tāla khāila balarāma
yamunāte dekha kālīdaha ei ṭhāma
Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Balarāma killed Dhenuka and ate tāla fruits over here. Beside the Yamunā see the Kāliya-daha.
So, the tāla forest was dominated by the Dhenukāsura and other asses. The cowherd boys desired to taste the tāla fruit. So, Lord Kṛṣṇa and Balarama entered the forest, and they killed the Dhenukāsura and his associates asses. By swinging them around and throwing them to the top of the trees.
Caitanya Maṅgala, Śeṣa-khaṇḍa 2.194
kadambataru ārohaṇa kaila eikhāne
jhāpa diyā kaila kālīnāgera dalane
Jayapatākā Swami: Kṛṣṇa jumped from this kadamba tree onto the heads of Kāliya and subdued him.
Kṛṣṇa was dancing on the hoods of Kāliya
Murāri Gupta Kaḍaca, 4.7.9
kālīya-damanīṁ cātra mūrtiṁ paśya jagad-guro
śītārta-cchalataḥ kṛṣṇa utthito’tra jalād bahiḥ
Translation: “O spiritual preceptor of the world, behold the Deity form of the subduer of Kālīya. When Kṛṣṇa rose out of the lake, He was shivering, being pained by the cold water.”
Jayapatākā Swami: So, Lord Kṛṣṇa was in the coils of Kāliya the serpent for some hours and so the devotees were all hysterically to see Krsna in this situation. Then Kṛṣṇa He rose on the top pf the heads of Kāliya and started to dance and leaving His footprints on the heads of Kāliya. The wives of Kāliya, the nāgapatnīs they prayed to Lord Kṛṣṇa and in this way He subdued the Kāliya serpent.
Caitanya Maṅgala, Śeṣa-khaṇḍa 2.195
śīte āratta hañā kṛṣṇa e ghāṭe uṭhilā
dvādaśa-āditya tabe gagane udilā
Jayapatākā Swami: Kṛṣṇa felt cold from being in the water. And so he came out of the water at this ghāṭa. Then the Dvādaśāditya, the twelve suns came down to warm Him up.
The suns came to warm Kṛṣṇa up.
Murāri Gupta Kaḍaca, 4.7.10
atra vai dvādaśādityā utthitā gaganopari
dvādaśāditya-ghaṭṭo’yaṁ kathyate veda-pāragaiḥ
Translation: “Thus at this place, twelve suns rose in the sky to give Lord Kṛṣṇa warmth. Therefore, those who are conversant in the Vedas call this place Dvādaśāditya-ghaṭa, or `the Bathing Place of the Twelve Suns.’
Jayapatākā Swami: So, all pastime places were showed by Kṛṣṇa dāsa to Lord Caitanya in His Vṛndāvana Parikramā.
Caitanya Maṅgala, Śeṣa-khaṇḍa 2.196
dvādaśa-āditya-ghāṭa teñi-bole loke
kālīyadamana-murtti dekha paratekhe
Jayapatākā Swami: Therefore, people call this place as Dvādaśāditya-ghaṭa and just see the Deity of Kāliya-damana.
Since they said that In Fiji there were no snakes, Śrīla Prabhupāda said that he found that Kāliya had gone to Fiji, and he was protected from Garuḍa by the footprints of Lord Kṛṣṇa on his hoods. So, in Fiji Island he had a Deity of Kāliya Kṛṣṇa established.
Murāri Gupta Kaḍaca, 4.7.11
atraiva vatsa-pālānāṁ dāvāgneḥ parimocanam
kṛtaṁ nanda-kumāreṇa bhakta-duḥkhāpahāriṇā
Translation: “At this spot, while the boys of Vraja were engaged in protecting the calves, Nanda Kumāra delivered them unharmed from the flames of a forest-fire. He did this because He is celebrated for His promise to relieve His bhakta from all distress.”
Jayapatākā Swami: So, the pastime of Kṛṣṇa bathing in the forest fire is celebrated here, He told all His cowherd boys to close their eyes and He consumed the forest fire.
Caitanya Maṅgala, Śeṣa-khaṇḍa 2.197
eikhāne bālaka batsa poḍe dābānale
dābānala pāna kari’ rākhila sabhāre
Jayapatākā Swami: Here in this place the cowherd boys were scorched by the forest fire and so Lord Kṛṣṇa swallowed the forest fire to save His calves and friends.
Murāri Gupta Kaḍaca, 4.7.12
krīḍā-parājitaḥ kṛṣṇaḥ śrīdāma-nāma bālakam
uvāha parama-prītaḥ pralambo rohiṇī-sutam
Translation: “When Lord Kṛṣṇa was defeated in play, out of great love He carried His boyfriend Śrīdāma on His shoulders, and the demon Pralambāsura carried the son of Rohiṇī.”
Caitanya Maṅgala, Śeṣa-khaṇḍa 2.198
śrīdāmera kāndhe kṛṣṇa caḍhilā ekhāne
pralamba hāriyā kāndhe kare balarāme
Jayapatākā Swami: Over here, Lord Kṛṣṇa once stood on Śrīdāma’s shoulders in the mood of Lord Nārāyaṇa riding on the back of Garuda. At this spot, the demon Pralambāsura snatched Balarāma and carried Him away on his shoulders.
So, this pastime of Balarāma liberating the demon Pralambāsura was enacted here. Pralambāsura after taking Lord Balarāma for some distance, he assumed his gigantic demon form and Lord Balarāma understood that this was not a cowherd boy, so He punched on his head and Pralambāsura died on the spot.
Murāri Gupta Kaḍaca, 4.7.13
jñātvāsuraṁ punaḥ so’pi muṣṭīkṛtya karāmbujam
śirasy atāḍayat tasya so’patad gata-jīvitaḥ
Translation: “Realizing that this cowherd boy was actually a demon in disguise, Balarāma made a fist with His lotus hand and struck Pralambā on the head. His life departed from his body and the demon fell to the ground.”
Caitanya Maṅgala, Śeṣa-khaṇḍa 2.199
asurera māyā vyakta haila balarāme
mastake mārila muṣṭi-chāḍila parāṇe
Jayapatākā Swami: The demon Pralambāsura exhibited his māyā, mystic powers and effortlessly Lord Balarāma killed him by striking the demon’s head with His lotus fist.
Murāri Gupta Kaḍaca, 4.7.14
bhāṇḍīrākhyaṁ vaṭaṁ vṛndāraṇye paśya mahattamam
īṣikākhya-vanaṁ hy atra go-dhanaṁ tṛṇa-lobhitam
Translation: “See the great banyan tree named Bhāṇḍīra in Vṛndāraṇya. And here is the forest of reeds known as īṣikhā-vana. There the cows, the wealth of the cowherds, once entered, being eager for new grasses.”
Caitanya Maṅgala, Śeṣa-khaṇḍa 2.200
bhāṇḍīra-banete aghāsurera maraṇa
nikaṭete dekha gosāñi hera vṛndāvana
Jayapatākā Swami: In Bhāṇḍīra-vana is the death of Aghāsura, the python demon. See near, Oh Caitanya Gosāñi, Vṛndāvana.
Caitanya Maṅgala, Śeṣa-khaṇḍa 2.201
īṣīkā-muñjāṭabī dekha parama-mohana
eikhāne ācambite nā dekhe godhana
Jayapatākā Swami: See the most enchanting īṣikhā-vana and muñcha-vana. Here in this place, suddenly, the cows disappeared.
Caitanya Maṅgala, Śeṣa-khaṇḍa 2.202
dhenu nā dekhiyā se bāṅśīte dila phuṅka
ūrddhakāṇa kari’ dhenu dhāya āise ūrddhvamukha
Jayapatākā Swami: Not seeing the cows, Lord Kṛṣṇa called them back with His flute. With their ears outstretched, the cows quickly ran toward Lord Kṛṣṇa with their heads up.
Many of the pastime places were shown to Lord Caitanya, so we end the class here we have to go to another program.
Thus ends the chapter entitled, Seeing the Boyhood Pastime Places, Part 2
