Viśvambhara Pacifies Śacī devī by Revealing His and Her Identity

Introduction: So we are late with the meeting the Peruvian leaders. So, without further ado we will start reading.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 27.39

prabhura jananīke prabodha dāna-chale tatsvarūpa prakāśa—

prabhu bale,—“mātā, tumi sthira kara mana
śuna yata janma āmi tomāra nandana

Jayapatākā Swami: The Lord said, O mother, pacify your mind and heart. And hear, how many births I have been your son.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 27.40

citta diyāśunaha āpana guṇa-grāma
kona kāle āchila tomāra ‘pṛśni’ nāma

Jayapatākā Swami: Hear attentively about your own glories. Sometime, you were known as Pṛśni.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 27.41

tathāya āchilā tumi āmāra jananītabe
tumi svarge haile ‘aditi’ āpani

Jayapatākā Swami: At that time, you were My mother. Later you were in the heavenly planets and you were called Aditi.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 27.42

tabe āmi hailuṅ vāmana-avatāra
tathāo āchilā tumi jananīāmāra

Jayapatākā Swami: At that time, I incarnated as Vāmanadeva, and that place, you were My mother.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 27.43

tabe tumi ‘devahūti’ hailā āra bāra
tathāo kapila āmi nandana tomāra

Jayapatākā Swami: Later you were Devahūti and I became Kapila Muni, your son.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 27.44

tabe ta’ ‘kauśalyā’ hailā āra bāra tumi
tathāo tomāra putra rāmacandra āmi

Jayapatākā Swami: Then you became Kauśalyā, and at that time I again became your son, as Rāmacandra.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 27.45

tabe tumi mathurāya ‘devakī’ hailā
kaṁsāsura-antaḥpure bandhane āchilā

Jayapatākā Swami: Then you became Devakī in Mathurā, and you were locked up within the prison of the demon Kaṁsa.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 27.46

tathāo āmāra tumi āchilā jananī
tumi sei devakī, tomāra putra āmi

Jayapatākā Swami: At that time, you were also My mother. You are the same Devakī, and I am your son.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 27.47

āro dui janma ei saṅkīrtanārambhe
haiba tomāra putra āmi avilambe

Jayapatākā Swami: After inaugurating this saṅkīrtana movement, I will take two more births. I will be called as your son.

Purport (by Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura): “The Deity form of the Lord is made of substances like clay, while the name of the Lord consists of sound vibration. So there are two incarnations of Śacīnandana – the Deity incarnation and the holy name incarnation. In Caitanya-caritāmṛta (Ādi-līlā 17.22) it is stated: kali-kāle nāma-rūpe kṛṣṇa-avatāra “In this age of Kali, the holy name of the Lord, the Hare Kṛṣṇa mahā-mantra, is the incarnation of Lord Kṛṣṇa.” This is the statement of Gaurasundara. The Deity form of the Lord is nondifferent from the Lord Himself and the holy names.

In Caitanya-caritāmṛta (Madhya 17.131) it is stated:

‘nāma’, ‘vigraha’, ‘svarūpa’—tina eka-rūpa
tine ‘bheda’ nāhi,—tina ‘cid-ānanda-rūpa’

“The Lord’s holy name, His form, and His personality are all one and the same. There is no difference between them. Since all of them are absolute, they are all transcendentally blissful.”

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Caitanya was personally present in 1486 and at time He appeared as the son of mother Śacī. And He was personally present. And in the rest of the Kali-yuga, He would be present as His holy name, and as His Deity form. These three have no difference - Personality, holy name and Deity form. So, we can associate with Lord Caitanya through His holy name, and we can serve Him through His Deity form.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 27.48

‘mora arcā mūrti’ mātā tumi se dharaṇī
‘jihvā-rūpā’ tumi mātā nāmera jananī

Jayapatākā Swami: In My form as the worshipable Deity, you are My mother as the earth. In My form as the holy names, you are My mother as the tongue.

So, here Lord Caitanya is describing His two other appearances. The Deity form, which is made of marble, or earth, or clay or wood, and all the substances are derived from the mother earth. Lord Caitanya is saying that mother Śacī is also present as earth. The holy name is chanted by the tongue. So, she is present as the tongue to chant the holy names! So, when we chant Hare Kṛṣṇa, our tongue is the incarnation of mother Śacī and the vibration is the incarnation of Kṛṣṇa!

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 27.49

ei mata tumi āmāra mātā janme janme
tomāra āmāra kabhu tyāga nāhi marme

Jayapatākā Swami: In this way, you are My mother, birth after birth. There is never any separation between you and Me.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 27.50

amāyāya ei saba kahilāṅa kathā
āra tumi manoduḥkha nā kara sarvathā”

Jayapatākā Swami: I have disclosed this to you, very sincerely. You should not feel any more anxiety or grief.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 27.51

jananīra sthairya—

kahilena prabhu ati rahasya-kathana
śuniyāśacīra kichu sthira haila mana

Jayapatākā Swami: After Lord Gaurāṅga spoke these most confidential topics, mother Śacī hearing these was somewhat pacified, in her mind. So, Lord Gaurāṅga revealed that mother Śacī is His mother, birth after birth. So she was somewhat pacified. Kichu sthira haila. So like this, Lord Caitanya had to reveal her and His identity, confidentially to pacify her.

Thus ends the chapter: Viśvambhara Pacifies Śacī-devī by Revealing His and Her Identity.

We see that by bhakti-yoga, we can have a personal relationship with the Lord. And He accepts someone as mother, father, friend, wife or girlfriend. So, it is only possible with Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma. Every other form of Godhead is treated with great respect and reverence. But this natural love for the Lord that mother Śacī is expressing, that she understands that it is her eternal position to always be the mother of the Lord. So, every one of us can have this kind of very personal relationship with Kṛṣṇa. So that is the specialty of the Kṛṣṇa Personality. So, in this material world, everybody is serving someone. But if we consider what better option is there than serving Kṛṣṇa – He has the most wonderful personality, and being part of His pastimes, it is completely blissful. Now, some devotees were saying that this separation, it grows and grows, and it is very painful. But actually, the same devotees said, one’s love for guru or one’s love for Kṛṣṇa increases. So, relationship with Kṛṣṇa is made special by the separation from Kṛṣṇa. If you don’t love Kṛṣṇa, if you don’t love the guru, then you don’t feel the separation. If you don’t feel separation, you cannot feel the happiness of joining Him.

Haribol!
