Hariḥ oṁ tat sat!
Introduction: So, we are continuing with the compilation of the Śrī Kṛṣṇa Caitanya pastimes. Lord Caitanya decided that He would take sannyāsa. Mother Śacī heard the rumor that He would take sannyāsa. She told Him that she will die; if He left her, and Viśvambhara explained the pastimes of Dhruva Mahārāja. Today we are reading the chapter called,
Śacī-devī is Not Pacified Despite Viśvambhara’s Narration of the Story of Dhruva
Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 11.154
yathā rāga—
eka āisa re prāṇera gaura gopāla
Jayapatākā Swami: Come here my dear Gaurāṅga Gopāla! You are my life!
kṛṣṇa-ājñā śuni’ dhruva deśere calila
ethā se uttānapādera vairāgya bāḍila
Jayapatākā Swami: Hearing the words of Lord Kṛṣṇa, Dhruva went to his own country. There meanwhile King Uttānapada’s renunciation increased.
Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 11.155
dhruvera satāi kānde–dhrūva kothā gela
muñi abhāginī putre ṭheliyā phelila
Jayapatākā Swami: Even Dhruva’s stepmother wept, she lamented where has Dhruva gone? I am very unfortunate, I pushed Dhruva from the throne.
Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 11.156
rājā bole–chila mora putravadha-lekhā
katadine habe āra dhruva-sane dekhā
Jayapatākā Swami: King Uttānapada said, perhaps my son’s death is already written by fate. How many days will pass before I see Dhruva again?
Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 11.157
rājā bole dhruvera mā tumi pāṭarāṇī
āji haite tomāra dāsī sakala satinī
Jayapatākā Swami: King Uttānapada said to Dhruva’s mother, that, “O mother of Dhruva, you are the most important queen. From today, all other queens will be your maidservants.”
Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 11.158
putra nā dekhiyā rājā vismita haiyā
bhūmite paḍiyā āche muramita hañā
Jayapatākā Swami: Unable to see his son, the king was overcome. He fell to the ground, unconscious like a dead man.
Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 11.159
henakāle nārada dekhiyā ācambita
uṭhilena mahārāja antare cintita
Jayapatākā Swami: At that time, the king Uttānapada saw Nārada Muni suddenly arrive. The king stood up with his heart filled with worries.
Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 11.160
pādya, arghya diyā dila āsana basite
āpana antara kathā lāgila kahite
Jayapatākā Swami: The king offered Nārada Muni pādya, arghya, and a sitting place. Then he revealed his inner thoughts. He said:
Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 11.161
pāñcavaccharera eka bālaka āmāra chila
nā jānie se bālaka kothākāre gela
Jayapatākā Swami: “I have a five-year-old son. I don’t know where my son has gone!”
Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 11.162
nārada belena - dhruvera aneka saṅkaṭa
kṛṣṇabhakti pāñā āila daiśera nikaṭa
Jayapatākā Swami: Nārada Muni said, “Dhruva has endured many troubles. He attained pure devotion for Lord Kṛṣṇa. Now he is returning to his own country nearby.”
Purport: A woman whose son is famous as a Vaiṣṇava in this world is glorious and successful. Her family is purified. Her home and country are glorious. Her ancestors in Svarga-loka are glorious and fortunate.
Jayapatākā Swami: So you can see that having a Kṛṣṇa conscious child makes the family glorious and successful, especially the mother. Every child should try to be a Vaiṣṇava, to have the mother be blessed and the father be blessed. So, if a gṛhastha has a Kṛṣṇa conscious child, then his life is successful and glorious. So, it is very important to give all your love and attention to your children, so that they become pure devotees of the Lord. So that is the real secret of success. This is what Kṛṣṇa said, that a devotee never comes from a non-devotee’s womb. There was a lady who came to Śrīla Prabhupāda and the devotee said to Śrīla Prabhupāda, that she should become a devotee, and he said, she is a devotee, otherwise how can she give birth to a Kṛṣṇa conscious child?
Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 11.163
Purport: “A woman whose son is a Vaiṣṇava is the mother of a glorious son. A woman who has a hundred sons that are not Vaiṣṇavas is like a mother of piglets.”
Jayapatākā Swami: Ah ooh! If you have one child who is a devotee, you are a success, you are glorious. But having 100 children, who are not Vaiṣṇavas, who are not devotees of the Lord, the śāstra says, they are like the mother of piglets! (Heavy statement)
Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 11.164
yasyāsti vaiṣṇava-putraḥ putriṇī sā vidhīyate
avaiṣṇava-śata-putrā jananī śūkarī-samā
Jayapatākā Swami: In that family, if one of the people becomes a pure devotee, a Vaiṣṇava, then the father, the mother, father in law, mother in law, the whole family are all delivered. So, we see the importance of Kṛṣṇa conscious gṛhasthas, to have a child and hopefully the child will become a pure devotee, and the whole family will be delivered.
Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 11.166
śrīkṛṣṇa bhaji’ āila tomāra bālaka
jāniñā se vaṁśe tomāra dhruva tilaka
Jayapatākā Swami: “Worshipping Lord Sri Kṛṣṇa, your son has returned. Please know that Dhruva is like a tilaka, glorifying your whole dynasty.”
Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 11.167
nāradera bole rājā hariṣa manorathe
cuyā-candanera chaḍā dila rājapathe
Jayapatākā Swami: Hearing Nārada Muni’s words, king Uttānapada became happy, he was very joyful. His heart’s desire was fulfilled. The royal road was sprinkled with sandalwood perfume.
Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 11.168
khadi, dadhi, maṅgala, durvā kuṅkama, kasturi
sūkṣma puṣpa ujjvala, dīpa jvale sāri sāri
Jayapatākā Swami: Yogurt, auspicious items like dūrva grass, kuṅkuma, maṅgala and musk were sprinkled on the path. Dry flowers were sprinkled on the road. The lamps were burning in line. It was decorated with rows of glistening lamps. Dhruva Mahārāja, left the kingdom, practically despondent, feeling disgraced and his mother was saying that I am very unfortunate. Please go and worship Kṛṣṇa. So, when Nārada Muni gave him initiation, he performed severe austerities and chanted his mantra. Dhruva had many difficulties, and then Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa appeared to him. Now he is returning home. Meanwhile the king felt very guilty and told his mother, you are my chief queen from now on. And all the other queens are your maid servants. And now he is coming back – the road and everything is being decorated.
Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 11.169
hārā-uddiśe rājā anuvrajī dhāya
kathodūre giyā tabe dhruvera lāgi’ pāya
Jayapatākā Swami: King Uttānapada ran to greet his lost son. After going some distance, he found Dhruva.
Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 11.170
dhruvere dekhiñā rājā prāṇa pāila bola
lakṣa lakṣa cumba diyā putra kaila kole
Jayapatākā Swami: Seeing Dhruva, king Uttānapada said, I have regained my life air. Hundreds of thousands of kisses were given to his dear son Dhruva, and he put him on his lap.
Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 11.171
dhruvere āniñā punaḥ sabhe kaila rājā
hāte hāte samarpila pātra āra prajā
Jayapatākā Swami: King Uttānapada brought Dhruva to the royal assembly. Immediately, Uttānapada made him the king, and handed him all the subjects.
Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 11.172
dhruvera tare rājya diñā rājā gela vane
katho dina rājya kaila ānandita mane
Jayapatākā Swami: After giving the kingdom to Dhruva, king Uttānapada left to the forest. After some days, Dhruva ruled the kingdom with a joyful mind.
Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 11.173
bale, dāpe nānādeśa nila eke eke
calliśavatsara rājya kaila niṣkaṇṭake
Jayapatākā Swami: With power and influence, he conquered many kingdoms, one after another. For forty years, he ruled the kingdom, untroubled by any thorn like rival.
Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 11.174
deva-gandharva-madhye nānā vikrama kari
māke saṅge lañā dhruva gelā dhruvapurī
Jayapatākā Swami: Amongst the demigods and Gandharvas, he proved his power and valor. Taking his mother, he went to Dhruvaloka, his own abode.
Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 11.175
śacī bole—āmi yāiba tomāra saṅge
thākiba tomāra saṅge kṛṣṇakathāraṅge
Jayapatākā Swami: Then mother Śacī said, “I will also go with You. I will stay with You and we will enjoy pastimes of talking about Lord Kṛṣṇa.”
Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 11.176
tumi hena soṇāra putra yābe muḍa muḍi
muñi muṇḍa muḍāiyā haimu nāḍi
Jayapatākā Swami: “You are my golden son and if you will shave Your head, I will also go and shave my head and become a nāḍi.”
Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 11.177
raktavastra pariba–kuṇḍala dimu kāṇe
yoginī haiyā āmi yāva tomāra sane
Jayapatākā Swami: “I will wear saffron clothes. I will wear an earring in my ear. I will become a yoginī, female yogī, I will travel with You.”
Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 11.178
māera vacane prabhu astavyasta hailā
ki diba prabodha bali’ cintite lāgilā
Jayapatākā Swami: Hearing His mother’s words, Lord Gaurāṅga became very agitated. He became perplexed, what would He say to pacify His mother?
Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 11.179
sarvajña śiromaṇi śacīra nandana
māere prabodha kare e dāsa locana
Jayapatākā Swami: Śacīnandana the crest jewel of the knowers of all truths, pacifies His mother, sings Locana dāsa.
So, Lord Gaurāṅga did not expect this reply from His mother. How the pastimes of Lord are very interesting, they put the Lord in some unique situations, and since He is the Supreme Lord, He is all-knowing. So, He quickly finds out the solution. So. this is very interesting. We hope that all the devotees are enjoying these pastimes of Lord Caitanya. Since I got absorbed, the class went very long.
I will go and take my dinner now. It is 7.30 pm now and I will have one hour of questions and answers, 8.30 to 9.30 pm.
