Śrī Kṛṣṇa Caitanya Book Compilation by His Holiness Jayapatākā Swami Mahārāja on 13^th August 2020 in Śrīdhāma Māyāpur, India

mūkaṁ karoti vācālaṁ paṅguṁ laṅghayate girim
yat-kṛpā tam ahaṁ vande śrī-guruṁ dīna-tāraṇam
paramānandaṁ mādhavaṁ śrī caitanya iśvaram
hariḥ oṁ tat sat

Introduction: Happy Vyāsa-pūjā! Happy Nandotsva, today’s Caitanya-līlā class is dedicated to His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda, and this is from the Caitanya-maṅgala, Sutra-khaṇḍa. The previous pastimes leading up to the avatāra of Lord Caitanya, this chapter is called: mora senāpati bhakta, My Commander in Chief Devotee.  Of course, Śrīla Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura, he called his Nāmahaṭṭa leaders as senāpatis. Senāpati literally means a general or commander in chief. Śrīla Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura said senāpati means protector of the senās, of the soldiers, in devotee parlance, it means protector of the devotees. Since devotees are all the shelters in Kṛṣṇa’s army. So, this Caitanya-maṅgala is actually sung in a particular rāga, but we are just repeating that, with no rāga.

My Commander-in-chief Devotee

Caitanya Maṅgala, Sūtra-khaṇḍa, 544

(kṣudra-chanda - dhanaśī rāga)

rāṅgā caraṇakamala bali yāṅa
cala cala preme bilāo
prema jagat mātābo he

Jayapatākā Swami: Take shelter of the Lord’s reddish lotus feet. Go and freely distribute ecstatic love of Kṛṣṇa, I will make the whole universe mad with ecstatic love for Kṛṣṇa.

nārade vidāya diyā basilā ṭhākura
āpana antara kathā tulilā aṅkura

Jayapatākā Swami: So, bidding farewell to Nārada, the Supreme Lord sat down. His own internal affairs rose up sprouting.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Sūtra-khaṇḍa, 545

pṛthivīte janama labhiba ye kāreṇe
tattva kahi - sarvajana śuna sāvadhāne

Jayapatākā Swami: I will take birth on the earth for this reason. I tell the information, everyone listen to it very carefully.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Sūtra-khaṇḍa, 546

nijavṛnda lañā prabhu kahe nijakathā
mahāmaheśvara kare pṛthivīra cintā

Jayapatākā Swami: The Supreme Lord surrounded by His associates spoke His own matters. The Supreme Controller of all controllers was thinking of the welfare of the earth.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Sūtra-khaṇḍa, 547

ḍāhine rādhikā — bāme devī śrīrukmiṇī
tāṁhāra antare yata pradhāna raṅgiṇī

Jayapatākā Swami: On His right was Rādhikā and left was Queen Rukmiṇī, also, present were all the principal damsels.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Sūtra-khaṇḍa, 548

tāṁhāra antare yata priya pāriṣada
tāhāra antare yata āra anugata

Jayapatākā Swami: Also, were present, His very dear associates and all of their followers were also present.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Sūtra-khaṇḍa, 549

prāṇanātha -priya kathā śuniba śravaṇe
lākhalākha āṁkhi eka sundara -vadane

Jayapatākā Swami: The Lord of their lives’ pleasing to hear words, were spoken, and hundreds of thousands of eyes gazed at His beautiful face.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Sūtra-khaṇḍa, 550

aneka cakora yena ekacandra-āśe
pibai amiyā rāśi mukha-parakāśe

Jayapatākā Swami: As many Cakora birds yearn for a single moon, so the devotees yearned to drink the nectar rays of the Lord’s moonlike face.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Sūtra-khaṇḍa, 551

yuge yuge janma mora pṛthivīra mājhe
sādhujana-trāṇa dharma rākhibāra kāje

Jayapatākā Swami: Yuga after yuga, I take My birth on the earth. I come to protect the devotees and the principles of religion. This is My mission.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Sūtra-khaṇḍa, 552

dharmasaṁsthāpana kari —nā bujhai keho
adhike bāḍhaye pāpa —paramāda seho

Jayapatākā Swami: I establish the principles of religion. Still people don’t understand. Sin has greatly increased, and it is a great calamity for the living entities.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Sūtra-khaṇḍa, 553

satyayuga-adhika tretāya bāḍhe papa
dvāpare tāhāra adhika —e baḍa santāpa

Jayapatākā Swami: More than in Satya-yuga, in Tretā-yuga sin has increased, in Dvāpara-yuga it has increased even more. This is a great distress.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Sūtra-khaṇḍa, 554

kali ghora andhakāra -nāhi dharmaleśa
karuṇā bāḍhala dekhi sarvajanakleśa

Jayapatākā Swami: Kali-yuga is a blinding darkness, not a hint of religion. I feel My rising compassion, seeing everyone’s sufferings.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Sūtra-khaṇḍa, 555

adharma-vināśa hetu mora avatāra
adharma bāḍhaye punaḥ ki kāja āmāra

Jayapatākā Swami: So My descent from the spiritual world is to destroy the irreligiosity. So when irreligion increases again, then what is the mission for Me? Lord Caitanya is saying this to His associates and all the gopīs, the queens, headed by Rādhā and Rukmiṇī.  So all are gazing at His lotus face, and hearing Lord Caitanya speaking.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Sūtra-khaṇḍa, 556

aichana jāniñā dayā upajila cite
janama labhiba nija prema prakāśite

Jayapatākā Swami: Having known this, compassion has grown in My heart. I will now take birth and distribute My own ecstatic spiritual love.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Sūtra-khaṇḍa, 557

emata durlabha premabhakti prakāśiyā
bujhāiba loke dharmādharma vicāriyā

Jayapatākā Swami: Such a rare pure love of Godhead, prema-bhakti, I will manifest. I will explain to the people, the analysis of religion and irreligion.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Sūtra-khaṇḍa, 558

navadvīpe janma mora śacīra udare
gaṅgāra samīpe jagannāthamiśra-ghare

Jayapatākā Swami: In Navadvīpa, I will take My birth, in Śacī-devī’s womb. I will take My birth in the house of Jagannātha Miśra, near the Ganges.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Sūtra-khaṇḍa, 559

āra avatāra hena avatāra nahe
asura-saṁhāra-hetu pṛthivī vijaye

Jayapatākā Swami: This incarnation will be not like the other incarnations, those who descend, kill the demons, and conquer the earth.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Sūtra-khaṇḍa, 560

mahākāya, mahāsura, mahā-astra-mora
mahāraṇe saṁhāra kariyā karo cūra

Jayapatākā Swami: Huge bodies and great demons – My weapons are great. In great battles I kill them and crush them to powder.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Sūtra-khaṇḍa, 561

ebe sarvajana sei hṛdaya āsuri
khaḍaga-chedya nahe -astrabale kibā kari

Jayapatākā Swami: But now everyone’s heart is having a demoniac quality. This quality cannot be cut with swords. What will the power of My weapons do at this time?

Caitanya Maṅgala, Sūtra-khaṇḍa, 562

nāma, guṇa, saṅkīrtana -vaiṣṇavera śakti
prakāśa kariba āra nija premabhakti

Jayapatākā Swami: The holy names, divine qualities and the saṅkīrtana, the congregational chanting of the holy names, are the strength of the Vaiṣṇavas. I will reveal My own ecstatic loving devotion, prema-bhakti.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Sūtra-khaṇḍa, 563

ei mate kali-pāpa kariba saṁhāra
sabhe cala —āge pāche nā kara vicāra

Jayapatākā Swami: In this way, I will destroy the sins of Kali-yuga. All of you go! Do not consider going before or after.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Sūtra-khaṇḍa, 564

ebe nāma saṅkīrtana khaḍaga tīkṣma lañā
antara āsura jīvera pheliba kāṭiyā

Jayapatākā Swami: Taking the sharpened sword of the saṅkīrtana or the congregational chanting of the holy names, the internal demoniac mentality of the people, of the fallen souls, will be cut out and thrown away.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Sūtra-khaṇḍa, 565

yadi pāpī chāḍi dharma dūra deśe yāya
mora senāpati bhakta yāibe tathāya

Jayapatākā Swami: If the sinners, giving up the religion, go to distant regions, I will send My senāpati-bhakta, My commander in chief devotee, and he will go there. So, this prediction written almost 500 years ago, tells how Nārada muni went to the Kṛṣṇa-loka, and requested Lord Caitanya to come down from Śvetadvīpa and help people of the four headed Brahmā’s universe. So, because Advaita then, He was at the same time praying for Lord Caitanya’s descent. So, He was descending, He will be preaching in India, in the Indian sub-continent. But if there are people who flee away, are in distant lands out of his reach, he will send his senāpati-bhakta who would spread His message around the world. So, this prediction of Lord Caitanya appears to indicate His Divine Grace Abhaya Caraṇāravinda Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda. He is the one who opened the flood gates of Lord Caitanya’s love around the world. And he gave the saṅkīrtana or process of congregational chanting of the holy names of Kṛṣṇa around the world, so that people were chanting in Europe, in America, all over the world. So we see how His Divine Grace Abhaya Caraṇāravinda Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda was predicted by Lord Caitanya, and similarly by the previous ācāryas, like Śrīla Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura, Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura. He invited his god brothers and others to come and help him, but no one came. So, although he was very sick, bodily, physically, he kept on spreading the movement of saṅkīrtana, around the world. And he was the great commander of all the devotees, to expand the message of love of Caitanya Mahāprabhu.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Sūtra-khaṇḍa, 566

nijapreme bhāsāiba e brahmāṇḍa saba
kabhu nā rākhiba duḥkha-śoka eka-laba

Jayapatākā Swami: I will, float the whole universe with My own love, never will I keep the unhappiness or sorrow, even a bit.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Sūtra-khaṇḍa, 567

bhāsāiba sthāvara, jaṅgama devagaṇe
śuni ānandita kahe e dāsa locane

Jayapatākā Swami: I will flood with My pure love, all the unmoving entities, moving entities and even the demigods, the angels of heaven. Hearing this, Locana dāsa, with great bliss, speaks.

We can see how His Divine Grace was predicted by Lord Caitanya. In the Caitanya-maṅgala, written about 450-500 years ago, this was revealed that Lord Caitanya would descend and flood the universe with His love of Godhead, and if people fled away or people were in distant places beyond his reach, that he would send His senāpati-bhakta, His commander in chief devotee, to distribute this love of Kṛṣṇa. So, on this day of Śrīla Prabhupāda’s Vyāsa-pūjā, we see that he was the senāpati-bhakta, and he came to give us this love of Kṛṣṇa. There is something in this present pandemic, because of the sinful activities of the people. If everyone follows the system of loving devotional service to the Lord. Lord Jesus gave His first commandment to love God. Lord Caitanya’s instruction was to love Kṛṣṇa, and then Śrīla Prabhupāda was asked what was the thing that would give him the most pleasure? He said, if any of his followers, developed love of Kṛṣṇa, that would be the most pleasing to him. Hare Kṛṣṇa!
