So today we will speak about Lord Caitanya.
Gurumaharaj speaks in hindi, that he got late because he was not well.
Lord Caitanya, when He was a young boy, His brother Biswaroop was much older than He was. So His father looked at Him and said, “Oh, now he is of marriageable age.” Biswaroop could tell that His father was looking at Him in such a way, but He did not want to get married. So next day, He crossed over the Gages and escaped. He took sanyas, and His mother and father were very sad.
“What have we done wrong, why has our son left us?”
But some elders of the family said, “Your son has delivered so many of the family members. By taking sanyas, He has actually done a great service to your family.”
So the Jagannath Mishra thought, “Oh, our son has done this!”, he was very satisfied on one hand but he was also sad. On the other hand he cannot bear the separation.
Biswaroop was an incarnation of Sankarshan, and Lord Caitanay comforted His mother and father. He told His parents, “My brother came and told me to go with Him.”, but I replied, “I am a young boy, I don’t know what sanyas is? I will get married, I will stay with my mother.” In this way He comforted His parents, but Jagannath Misra thought that if Nima takes sanyas and leaves home, I will not leave.
So he thought, “If my son continues to study, He may take sanyas.”, so he told his son, “You cannot study more. I will maintain you.”, so He could not displease His father, He could not disobey him, but he was not happy. So He began to hang out with the naughty children and all did all type of naughty things.
Sometimes He would go out with another child in the night and dress up like a bull. Two boys would cover themselves with cloth, and makes sounds like a bull. Then, they would break down the house garden, and the house holders would tell, “Bull, bull, help bull.”, but he would run away.
One time in the class of Advaita Gosai everyone exclaimed, “Haribol, Haribol”, so Lord Caitanya came running in and they all said, “What do you want boy? You called me.”
“No, No, No. Alright”
Sometimes He would put water in the baby’s ear. The baby would cry. The mother could find nothing wrong, and sometimes in those days people had out-houses. So, because Jagannath Mishra stopped Him from studying, He did mischief. He would lock the house from outside. So then the householder would get up in the middle of the night to answer natures call. “Help, Help, bacho, bachao, somebody has locked the door, I have to get out, help, quick, quick” Did you hear the story before? So, one day Lord Caitanya sat on the earthen pots which were thrown away. People thought that in those days people were undeveloped, but they would have terracotta pots, use and throw. So there were no pots to wash. More advanced.
So at the bottom of the pots there were soot, and Lord Caitanya was golden in colour, but He had the black soot from the pots on the face and arms. He looked very beautiful. His mother Sachi said, “chi, chi, you are a brahman boy. This is impure, this is asuchi.”
“What do I know about suchi and asuchi. My father doesn’t let me study. So I don’t know.”
So his mother said, “You should come with me, go to Ganges and bathe. This pots are impure.”, then Lord Caitanya said, “This pots are used for cooking the bhoga. Since they are used for offering to Visnu, how can they be impure? Call my father here.”
Mother Sachi said, “Give me your hand. Come on.”, and took Him to the Ganges. There He was bathed by Mother Sachi, and Jagannath Mishra came down to the Ganges. So many other men, they told Jagannath Mishra, “Our son, He doesn’t like to play. I have to force Him to study. Your son likes to study. You should allow Him to study.” And other men also said things like this.
So then He said, “Well, you are all my well-wisher, and you all say that I should let my boys study. So I will do what you say.”……………Haribol ….. Haribol (everyone)
So Nimai got permission to go and study…………… Haribol ….. Haribol (everyone)
Nimai was very happy.
One day Nimai had an argument with Jagadananda. Jagadananda went and sat by the Gannges, and he was there all afternoon, all night, he was very angry. So just before the sunrise, Lord Caitanya came with Gadadhara Pandit, and they were …24.46…, Jagadananda!.............. Jagadananda! (repeated by everyone)
Jagadananda!.............. Jagadananda! (repeated by everyone)
Jagadananda!.............. Jagadananda! (repeated by everyone)
Where are you?
And they saw Jagadananda by the Ganges, and Jagadananda saw that they saw me.
So he said, “Why did you come here in the dark? The hard Ganges may hurt your foot.”, and Gadadhara went by the side of Jagadananda, and Lord Caitanya told Jagadananda, “Please come home with us.”
So he grabbed down to his leg and he pulled himself up. The three walked up back to the house of Sachi Mata, and Jagannath Mishra. Lord Caitanya said, “I could not sleep also. You were up all night. So I could not also sleep. Sometimes we are friends, we have disagreements. Sometimes we agree, sometimes we fight, but all these afterwards, our love for each other increases. Like this they were talking on the way back.
So the Lord Caitanya brought Jagadananda back to His house. Jagadananda took a few handful of puffed rice, muri and then he laid down to sleep. The Jagannath Mishra brought in a plate of rice and hot milk, and He gave this to Jagadananda and asked him to eat it. So then Jagadananda took that rice and ate it, and Jagadananda and Nimai were told by Jagannath Mishra that it was time to go to school. So they quickly took their showers, put on their tilak and went to school. So like this Lord Caitanya had so many pastimes as a child, and then he went to married and went to East Bengal. He got to Gaya, got initiated. He saw Krishna at Kanai Natsala, and when He returned back to Nabadwip, He was changed. He was a devotee. He told the Vaisavas, that, “When I meet my guru I will change.” So that happened, but he took initiation from Ishwar Puri, he was a changed person, and Sachi mata called Nimai to come home for Prasad. Three neighbors came by. “Something is wrong with your son. He seems to have a vayu dosh on his head. He cries for Krishan. Very bad. Very sick. You should feed Him some tender coconut to cool His brain down.”
And others said, “No, no, you should use the oil from the ten roots on his head.”
And the third said, “No, no, he is very far gone. You should tie Him down with ropes.”
“Nothing is wrong with my son.”, said Sachi Mata, but people were criticizing.
So Nimai went to the house of Srivas Thakur. He said, “What do I do? Can I ask you a question?”
“Yes, sure you can ask.”
“People say I have a disease.”
“What are your symptoms.”
“Whenever I chant Hare Krishna, my hairs stand on end. Sometimes I laugh, sometimes I cry, sometimes I faint. So they say I have a disease. So I want to ask you, is it true, do I have a disease?”
Srivas Thakur said, “Yes, you have a disease and I want that disease too.”……….Haribol………Haribol (Everyone)
Srivas said, “Your disease is the disease of love of Godhead. Even Lord Brahma, Lord Siva, they want that disease. Common people will not understand what you are going through. If you want I can have a kirtan and invite devotees who appreciate love of Godhead. So that’s how the kirtan in Srivas Angan began. So, this is how the kirtan began in Srivas’s house.
Haribol………Haribol (Everyone)
Are there any questions?
Q: What should I do to get that disease of love of Godhead?
Gurumaharaj: Bhakti Vinod Thakur sang a song. Lord Caitanaya said that He had brought the medicince for Kali Yuga. Enechi ausadi maya nasibara lagi, Hari nama mahamantra lao tumi magi.
Lord Caitanya said, “I brought the medicine. You want it?”…………Haribol (Everyone)
Ask for it….lao tumi magi, take it by begging for it.
So then Bhakti Vinod Thakur said, “Bhakti Vinoda Thakura charane pariya, ei Hari nama mahamantra lao tumi magiya.”, he said, “I fell at the feet of the Lord, and I got it, I got the medicine, I got it, I got it.”……………. Haribol………Haribol (Everyone)
So you can also get it. Fall at the feet of the Lord, and beg Him for the mercy.
Q: We worship Gaura Nitai, but Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur established Gaura Gadadhara deities… what is the mood in which we should worship Gaura-Gadadhara deities.
Gurumaharaj: Gaura and Nitai are especially in the preaching mood, and that is more applicable for most, and Gadadhara and Lord Caitanya are very confidential deities. So they are worshipped as friends. I don’t say that I know fully, but Prabhupada said that Gadadhara is helping Lord Caitanya in His pastimes. So Gadadhara had requested that he could be in a man’s body in the next lila. So she could not associate openly with Lord Krishna. So in the next pastime she wanted to associate openly with Krishna. So there are some deities of Gaura-Gadadhara, and some deities of Gaura-Nitai.
So Lord Caitanya has taken the mood of a devotee, and Gadadhara is helping him, but Gadadhara has extreme love for Lord Caitanya.
Looks like more people came tonight.
