H. H. Jayapatākā Swami: Hare Kṛṣṇa!!

I was present when we observed a Govardhan Puja. And then that afternoon Prabhupāda, went out to see from his veranda, how some children were eating with one hand and fighting off the dogs with other hand. Eating the scraps that people left on their plate, when Prabhupāda saw this he started crying.

[Overwhelmed]

He said how hungry they must be, just eating the scraps from plates, fighting off the stray dogs. He said, “Everywhere within ten (10) mile radius of our temples people should not go hungry, because Kṛṣṇa is everyone’s father and in presence of one’s father the son will not go hungry.” So with that we started our ‘Food for life program’ and we provide free food two (2) days a week. And subsidise meals on other days, and so we take this idea that no one should go hungry. I was out in the flood relief and I saw that some children were injured in the floods and their hands were infected, we started to supply medical treatment for the flood victims.

Prabhupāda said that Māyāpur will be a city of at least fifty thousand (50,000) people; twenty thousand (25,000) residents and twenty five thousand (25,000) guests at any time. Well we already have five (5) or six (6) thousand residents and last year I heard we had five (5) million visitors. So now we are planning ahead the infrastructure: roads, sewage plants and one of the essential items in addition to our school and other infrastructure; is the infrastructure of health facility that in the presence of the parent the children won’t be sick either, at least they would be taken care of.

So as a part of the development of the Spiritual Township it is important to have some hospital and health facility. Right now the sick people they go to Krishnanagar which doesn’t have very good facility. And then possibility is to go to Kolkata. So if we have some facility in Māyāpur itself; it can serve not only Māyāpur but also those within a ten (10) mile radius. Of course, better no one gets sick, but this is the material world Ahara-nidra-bhaya-maithun; sickness and old age is something that’s part of life and we are very grateful that Kirtanpriya, Nandasuta and Pranagauranga, they have stepped forward to develop this hospital.

This time was the auspicious time to inaugurate and this happens to fall on the sacred Bhisma-panchak in the month of Kartik; so we pray for the blessing of A.C Bhakti Vedanta swami Prabhupāda that in order to make this city properly developed the hospital facility is being ground broken today. This will serve all the people, as I said within a ten (10) mile radius. Hope that there would be many as H .H  . Bhakti Purushottam Swami said, many devotee, doctors, nurses who come forward.

Because we like to take our inspiration from the Bhaktivedanta Hospital which has not only nice medical facility but also spiritual care facility and that spiritual care is suited for the people of different creeds

I don’t know if we have invited some of the village leaders here. It would be good to have village leaders, have the panchayat leaders, block leaders. So if we didn’t do that we should have one ceremony in the evening , in one of our auditorium where we invite all the village leaders, this is a very essential part of the community. This health facility is a very essential part of our city infrastructure.

I want to thank all the organisers; I want to pray for the blessings of Śrīla Prabhupāda; and pray that all the devotees also give their best wishes for this auspicious endeavour.
