The following is a Śrī Kṛṣṇa Caitanya Book Compilation given by His Holiness Jayapatākā Swami Mahārāja on September 11th,2022 in Śrī Dhāma Māyāpur, India.

mūkaṁ karoti vācālaṁ paṅguṁ laṅghayate girim
yat-kṛpā tam ahaṁ vande śrī-guruṁ dīna-tāraṇam
paramānandaṁ mādhavaṁ śrī caitanya iśvaram

Hariḥ oṁ tat sat!

Hare Kṛṣṇa! Dear Devotees! Today we will continue with the compilation of Śrī Kṛṣṇa Caitanya Book Part 1, Today's chapter is entitled as:

The Yavanas who had beaten Haridāsa, were all destroyed along with their families,

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Ādi-khaṇḍa 16.148

bahirdaśāya āsiyā sammukhe nijadrohī navābke dekhiyā tatprati kṣamā o karuṇā-plāvita hāsya—

kata-kṣaṇe bāhya pāilena haridāsa
muluka-patire cāhi’ haila kṛpā-hāsa

Translation: Some time after regaining his consciousness, Haridāsa met the King of Bengal and laughed mercifully.

Jayapatākā Swami: Haridāsa Ṭhākura the Ācārya of the Holy Name’, he had no evil against anyone and when he met the king of Bengal, he smiled mercifully.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Ādi-khaṇḍa 16.149

haridāsera aiśvarya-mahimā-darśane navābera karayoḍe savinaye ukti—

sambhrame muluka-pati yuḍi’ dui kara
balite lāgila kichu vinaya-uttara

Translation: With great awe and reverence, the king folded his hands and humbly said to Haridāsa.

Jayapatākā Swami: So the King hurriedly folded his hands and humbly said to Haridāsa Ṭhākura

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Ādi-khaṇḍa 16.150

haridāsake advayajñānatattvavit siddha mahāpuruṣa-jñāna —

“satya satya jānilāṅa,—tumi mahā-pīra
'eka’-jñāna tomāra se haiyāche sthira

Translation: “Now I know for certain that you are a powerful saint, for you are firmly convinced that the Supreme Lord is one.

Purport (By His Divine Grace Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura Śrīla Prabhupāda): The phrase eka-jñāna means “to perceive the presence of the Supreme Lord in every living entity” or “to see the Lord’s variegatedness;” in other words, “to realize the nondual Absolute Truth.”

Jayapatākā Swami: Haridāsa Ṭhākura, he was firmly convinced that there is only one Supreme Lord and all religions worship the same Supreme Lord even though we know Him by different names.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Ādi-khaṇḍa 16.151

haridāsa vyatīta viddha yogī o jñānī prabhṛti sakalei mukhe mātra muktābhimānī haiyāo vastutaḥ amukta—

yogī jñānī yata saba mukhe-mātra bale
tumi se pāilā siddhi mahā-kutūhale

Translation: “All the so-called yogīs and jñānīs simply speak big words, but you have actually attained perfection.

Purport (By His Divine Grace Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura Śrīla Prabhupāda): “Ordinary pseudo yogīs and pseudo jñānīs speak of advaya-jñāna, or transcendental knowledge beyond duality, simply to make a show of being liberal, but you, Haridāsa, are actually a real, perfected mahā-puruṣa, or great personality.”

Jayapatākā Swami: The Muslim King was convinced that Haridāsa Ṭhākura had actually achieved perfection, he was convinced that the others were bluffing and actually Haridāsa Ṭhākura was perfect.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Ādi-khaṇḍa 16.152

navābera svakṛta drohajanita pāpera kṣamā-prārthanā—

tomāre dekhite mui āiluṅ ethāre
saba doṣa, mahāśaya! kṣamibā āmāre

Translation: “O sir, I have personally come to meet you, therefore please forgive all my offenses.

Jayapatākā Swami: So the Muslim king was worried about his offenses to Haridāsa Ṭhākura and he came before Haridāsa Ṭhākura to beg for forgiveness.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Ādi-khaṇḍa 16.153

haridāsera sarvatra samadarśitva o akṣaja-jñāne-durjñeyatva—

sakala tomāra sama,—śatru-mitra nāi
tomā’ cine,—hena jana tribhuvane nāi

Translation: “You are equal to everyone—both friend and enemy— but there is no one in the three worlds who can understand you.

Purport (By His Divine Grace Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura Śrīla Prabhupāda): On the strength of their mundane knowledge, the materialists cannot understand the position of a mahā-bhāgavata, paramahaṁsa Vaiṣṇava. Actually no one is the friend or enemy of a Vaiṣṇava. Because he considers everyone in the world as a Vaiṣṇava, he is the friend of everyone, and being devoid of conception of mundane enjoyment, he sees everyone, friends and enemies, equally.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, Haridāsa Ṭhākura being a pure mahā-bhāgavata Vaiṣṇava, he did not see anyone as friend or enemy, he was totally dedicated to serving the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Ādi-khaṇḍa 16.154

haridāsake sarvatra yatheccha vicaraṇārtha anumati-pradāna—

cala tumi, śubha kara’ āpana-icchāya
gaṅgā-tīre thāka giyā nirjana-gophāya

Translation: “You are free to go wherever you wish. You may go stay in a cave on the bank of the Ganges or wherever you desire.

Purport (By His Divine Grace Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura Śrīla Prabhupāda): The word gophāya (derived from the Sanskrit word guhā and Hindi word guphā) means “a vacant cave.”

The king said, “O Haridāsa, now you are freed from arrest, therefore by your own sweet will you may go to a secluded cave on the bank of the Ganges near Phuliyā and begin to worship your beloved Lord without disturbance. Though we are most abominable and sinful, please forgive all our unforgivable offenses and glance mercifully on us.”

Jayapatākā Swami: So the Muslim King realized that his offenses to Haridāsa Ṭhākura were unforgiveable. So he begged Haridāsa Ṭhākura to please forgive him and he freed him and said that you can stay wherever you like.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Ādi-khaṇḍa 16.155

āpana-icchāya tumi thāka yathā-tathā
ye tomāra icchā, tāi karaha sarvathā”

Translation: “Now you may stay wherever you like and do whatever you please.”

Jayapatākā Swami: So, Haridāsa Ṭhākura had convinced the Muslim King of his transcendental position. So the King gave him the freedom to stay wherever he liked.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Ādi-khaṇḍa 16.156

haridāsa-darśane uttamādhama-nirviśeṣe sakalera nija svātantrya-vismṛti o tadānugatya-svīkāra —

haridāsa-ṭhākurera caraṇa dekhile
uttamera ki dāya, yavana dekhi’ bhule’

Translation: What to speak of the upper classes, on seeing the lotus feet of Haridāsa Ṭhākura, even the Moslems forgot themselves.

Purport (By His Divine Grace Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura Śrīla Prabhupāda): The Moslems are generally devoid of devotional service to the Supreme Lord. If sense enjoyers, fruitive workers, and mental speculators, who are all relatively superior to the Moslems, realize the magnanimous, glorious lotus feet of mahā-bhāgavata Ṭhākura Haridāsa, then they will permanently retire from engagement in the their respective sense gratification. On seeing Haridāsa, even Moslems who were sinful and extremely averse to the Lord forgot their endeavors to oppose devotional service, which were induced by the urges of their senses.

Jayapatākā Swami: This purport translated into English should not be published as it is, the Muslims may be very offended. But the point is that Haridāsa Ṭhākura, his pure devotion was beyond any sectarian viewpoint and all the religious people should appreciate his wonderful position.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Ādi-khaṇḍa 16.157

amānuṣika droha-daurātmācaraṇaśīla vidharmīrao haridāsake siddha-mahāpuruṣa-jñāne pādapadma-vandana—

eta krodhe ānileka māribāra tare
‘pīra’-jñāna kari’ āro pā’ye pāche dhare

Translation: The Yavana King, who was so much angry that he had brought Haridāsa to be killed, has now accepted him as a powerful saint and caught hold of the Ṭhākura’s lotus feet.

Purport (By His Divine Grace Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura Śrīla Prabhupāda): Oh, how wonderful are the uncommon glories of the mahā-bhāgavata, paramahaṁsa, Vaiṣṇava Ṭhākuras! By seeing the extraordinary shining example of Ṭhākura Haridāsa’s forgiveness and tolerance, that same king who was previously envious of the Ṭhākura, who had angrily arrested him in order to severely punish him, who hated Lord Viṣṇu and the Vaiṣṇavas, and who was most sinful now accepts Ṭhākura Haridāsa as a worshipable, uncommon, great personality sent by God. Not only that, being purified by the fire of repentance, that most sinful, atheistic, offensive king begged forgiveness for all his offenses and was obliged to offer obeisances at the Ṭhākura’s lotus feet.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, Ṭhākura Haridāsa was able to bring this change about in the consciousness of the sinful atheistic King. Just hearing about the great qualities of Ṭhākura Haridāsa is purifying.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Ādi-khaṇḍa 16.158

nijadrohī vidharmīke kṣamā pradarśanānte haridāsera phuliyā grāme āgamana—

yavanere kṛpā-dṛṣṭi kariyā prakāśa
phuliyāya āilā ṭhākura-haridāsa

Translation: After glancing mercifully on the Moslems, Ṭhākura Haridāsa entered Phuliyā.
