20220903 Rādhāṣṭamī Adhivāsa Sannyāsa Ceremony Address

The following is a Rādhāṣṭamī Adhivāsa Sannyāsa Ceremony Address given by His Holiness Jayapatākā Swami Mahārāja on September 3rd, 2022 in Śrī Dhāma Māyāpur, India.

mūkaṁ karoti vācālaṁ paṅguṁ laṅghayate girim
yat-kṛpā tam ahaṁ vande śrī-guruṁ dīna-tāraṇam
paramānandaṁ mādhavaṁ śrī caitanya iśvaram

Hariḥ oṁ tat sat!

Jayapatākā Swami: I will speak in English and he will translate. So, Saṅkarṣaṇa Nitāi dāsa told me that he took initiation on Rādhāṣṭamī day. So today on the holy day of Rādhāṣṭamī adhivāsa, we are giving him sannyāsa. We heard how Lord Caitanya took sannyāsa. He was 24 years in household house in Māyāpur. 24 years he was a sannyāsī, he went to Jagannātha Purī, South India and Vṛndāvana. We heard how by this taking sannyāsa, one can achieve the spiritual world. So we take sannyāsa as for purification and spread the holy name around. But Lord Caitanya He did not need to be purified! He took sannyāsa to spread the Harināma saṅkīrtana. And also, this sannyāsa means mana, kāya, vākya – to give to Kṛṣṇa. Mind, body and word. Where is the daṇḍa? ? Wow! Blessed by Rādhā Mādhava! So this is called tri-daṇḍī. Mind, words and deeds and it has a fourth daṇḍa which is the jīva-daṇḍa, which is small. The little curved thing on the top is intelligence. We need to use the intelligence to control our mind and control our senses.

So, we know that Saṅkarṣaṇa Nitāi dāsa, he helped to develop Navadvīpa and Gaura-maṇḍala. And since he is also helping me resolve some problems in Nepal, and he is chairman of the Bhāgavata Mahā-Vidyālaya. He got his Bhakti-vaibhava degree which Śrīla Prabhupāda said, sannyāsīs should have. Soon we hear that he would have his Bhakti-vedānta degree! So, we heard that Śacīmātā and Jagannātha Miśra were very upset when their elder son Viśvarūpa had taken sannyāsa. But then someone said you should be happy, by him taking sannyāsa he has delivered unlimited members of your family. So, we give you this sannyāsa-daṇḍa. You have to carry it for at least ten years.
