Introduction: Today we will continue with the compilation of Śrī Kṛṣṇa Caitanya book, the chapter entitled:

Fearing The Nawab Hussain Shah Bādasāha, A Messenger Is Sent to Lord Caitanya

Under the Section: The Lord’s Attempt to Go to Vṛndāvana

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.67

vidharmī o śrīmūrti-vidveṣī yavana-rājerao gauracandrera prati śraddhā—

ye husena sāha sarva uḍiyāra deśe
deva-mūrti bhāṅgileka deula-viśeṣe

Jayapatākā Swami: This same Hussain Shah broke deities and temples throughout Orissa.

Purport by Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura: The word deula means “temple.”

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.68

tathāpi māyāvādī sannyāsī o uluka-sampradāyera caitanya-guṇa-śravaṇe matsaratā—

hena yavane o mānileka gauracandra
tathāpiha ebe nā mānaye yata andha

Jayapatākā Swami: However the Yavana King respected Lord Gauracandra, even then, even today  many blind persons do not accept Lord Caitanya.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.69

māthā muḍāiyā sannyāsīra veśa dhare
caitanyera guṇa śuni' poḍaye antare

Jayapatākā Swami: Some people shave their heads and don the dress of sannyāsīs, but their hearts burn when they hear the glories of Lord Caitanya.

Purport by Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura: People who renounce the entire world and accept the dress of Māyāvādī sannyāsīs cannot become free of envy, because their hearts are full of hatred for hearing the transcendental qualities of Śrī Caitanyadeva. Although Māyāvādī sannyāsīs proudly consider themselves the gurus of Hindu society, they are at heart averse to Mahāprabhu. But even though the Yavana king belonged to a different religion, he accepted the qualities of Mahāprabhu, and in spite of knowing that Mahāprabhu belonged to another community he ordered that no one from his own community should oppose or become envious of Mahāprabhu. Even though many envious pseudo-religionists see the magnanimity and faith in Mahāprabhu possessed by the King, who belonged to an opposing religion and who was superior to the envious so-called-Hindu Māyāvādīs, they nevertheless oppose Mahāprabhu.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, this purport explains how the Bādshāh Nawab Hussain Shah, although from an opposing religion had respect for Lord Caitanya and ordered that no one should disturb Him. But some of the Māyāvādī sannyāsīs, they maintained the enviousness against Lord Caitanya and thus they showed that they are even more fallen than the Nawab.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.70-72

śrī-caitanyayaśe matsara vyakti sarvaguṇa-garimā-sattveo sarvadoṣākara—

yāṅra yaśe ananta-brahmāṇḍa paripūrṇa
yāṅra yaśe avidyā-samūha kare cūrṇa

yāṅra yaśe śeṣa-ramā-aja-bhava-matta
yāṅra yaśa gāya cāri vede kari' tattva

hena śrī-caitanya-yaśe yāra asantoṣa
sarva-guṇa thākile o tāra sarva-doṣa

Jayapatākā Swami: A person may be full of all good qualities, but if he is unhappy to hear Lord Caitanya's glories, which are spread throughout innumerable universes, which destroy all ignorance, which intoxicate Lord Śeṣa, Lakṣmī devi, Lord Brahmā, and Lord Śiva, and which are sung by the four Vedas, then such a person's good qualities are actually nothing but faults.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.73

sarva-guṇa-hīna yadi caitanya-caraṇe
smaraṇa karile yāya vaikuṇṭha-bhuvane

Jayapatākā Swami: But if a person who has no good qualities remembers the lotus feet of Lord Caitanya, then he attains the transcendental abode of Vaikuṇṭha (spiritual world).

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.74

śuna āre bhāi śuna śeṣa-khaṇḍa-līlāye-
rūpe khelilā kṛṣṇa saṅkīrtana-khelā

Jayapatākā Swami: O brothers, just hear the Antya-khaṇḍa pastimes, which include the saṅkīrtana pastimes performed by Lord Kṛṣṇa Caitanya.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.75

sajjanagaṇera bādasāhera vākye santoṣa —

śuniyā rājāra mukhe susatya vacana
tuṣṭa hailena yata susajjana-gaṇa

Jayapatākā Swami: After hearing the truthful words of the King, all the pious persons became pleased.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.76

duṣṭalokera mantraṇāya vidharmī rājāra citta-parivartana kichu asambhava nahe vicāra kariyā prabhuke ‘acirei rāmakeli-tyāgera anurodha-jñāpanārtha sajjanagaṇera nibhṛte ālocanā o lokapreraṇa—

sabe meli' eka sthāne vasiyā nibhṛte
lāgilena yuktivāda-mantraṇā karite

Jayapatākā Swami: They all gathered in a solitary place and considered the situation.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.77

“svabhāvei rājā mahā-kāla-yavana
mahātamo-guṇa-vṛddhi haya ghane ghana

Jayapatākā Swami: “The Yavana king is by nature like death personified, for he increses the mode of ignorance.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.78

oḍra-deśe koṭi koṭi pratimā, prasāda
bhāṅgileka, kata kata karila pramāda

Jayapatākā Swami: “He broke millions of deities and temples in Orissa and created great havoc there.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.79

daive āsi' sattva-guṇa upajila mane
teñi bhāla kahileka āmā'-sabā'-sthāne

Jayapatākā Swami: “By the arrangement of providence he has now developed the mode of goodness. Therefore he has spoken nicely to us.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.80

āra kona pātra āsi' kumantraṇā dile
āra bāra kubuddhi āsiyā pāche mile

Jayapatākā Swami: “But if someone approaches him and gives him some bad advice, he could again become wicked-minded.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.81

jāni kadācit bale `kemana gosāñi
āna' giyā dekhibāre cāhi ei ṭhāñi'

Jayapatākā Swami: “What if he says, `What kind of sannyāsī is He? Bring Him here, I want to see.'

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.82

ataeva gosāñire pāṭhāi kahiyā
`rājāra nikaṭa-grāme ki kārya rahiyā'”

Jayapatākā Swami: “Let us therefore send someone to Lord Caitanya with the message, `What is the use of staying in a place near the King?'”

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.83

ei yukti kari' sabe eka subrāhmaṇa
pāṭhāiyā saṅgope dilena tata-kṣaṇa

Jayapatākā Swami: After planning in this way, they at once secretly sent a pious brāhmaṇa to meet Lord Caitanya.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.84

aharniśa kṛṣṇanāmarase pramatta mahāprabhu —

nijānande mahāprabhu matta sarva-kṣaṇa
prema-rase niravadhi huṅkāra garjana

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu, however, was continually intoxicated in His own ecstasy. He constantly roared loudly in the mellows of ecstatic love.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.85

lakṣa-koṭi loka mili' kare hari-dhvani
ānande nācaye mājhe prabhu nyāsi-maṇi

Jayapatākā Swami: Millions of people chanted the name of Lord Hari (Hari Bol!) as Lord Caitanya, the crest jewel of sannyāsīs joyfully danced in their midst.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.86

anya kathā anya kārya nāhi kona kṣaṇa
ahar-niśa bolena bolāyena saṅkīrtana

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Caitanya did not speak or do anything for even a moment other than chant and induce others to chant (congregatinal chanting of the holy name) in saṅkīrtana day and night.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.87

dekhiyā vismita baḍa hailā brāhmaṇa
kathā kahibāre avasara nāhi kṣaṇa

Jayapatākā Swami: The brāhmaṇa became struck with great wonder when he could not find even a moment to speak with Lord Caitanya. Lord Caitanya was fully absorbed in the congregational chanting (saṅkīrtana) and the brāhmaṇa could not find a moment to speak to the Lord privately because He was continuously chanting. Haribol!

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.88

anya-jana-sahita kathāra kon dāya?
nija-pāriṣadei sambhāṣā nāhi pāya

Jayapatākā Swami: What to speak of conversing with others, Lord Caitanya did not even converse with His own associates.

Purport by Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura: Many intimate associates of Mahāprabhu would not find an opportunity to converse with Him. Śrī Gaurasundara spent His days and nights constantly performing kīrtana Himself and encouraging others to perform kīrtana. Therefore outside persons would not get an opportunity to give Him advice.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.89-90

kibā dibā, kibā rātre, kibā nija-para
kibā jala, kibā sthala, ki grāma-prāntara

kichu nāhi jāne prabhu nija-bhakti-rase
ahar-niśa nija-prema-sindhu-mājhe bhāse

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Caitanya was unaware whether it was day or night, whether one was an insider or an outsider, whether He was on land or in water, or whether He was in the village or outside the village. He simply floated day and night in the ocean of His own ecstatic love.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.91

prabhura aparera konao kathā śravaṇera bindumātrao avasara

nāi dekhiyā brāhmaṇera prabhura gaṇa-samīpe sajjanagaṇera parāmarśa jñāpana—

prabhu-saṅge kathā kahibāre nāhi kṣaṇa
bhakta-varga-sthāne kathā kahila brāhmaṇa

Jayapatākā Swami: Being unable to find any opportunity to speak to Lord Caitanya, the brāhmaṇa gave his message to the devotees. The brāhmaṇa spoke to the devotees who were engaged in the kīrtana with Lord Caitanya and in this way He created some doubt in their mind.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.92

dvija bale,—“tumi-saba gosāñira gaṇa!
samaya pāile ei kahio kathana

Jayapatākā Swami: The brāhmaṇa said, “You are all associates of Lord Caitanya. When you find time, please give Him this message.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.93

‘rājāra nikaṭa-grāme ki kārya rahiyā’
ei kathā sabe pāṭhāilena kahiyā”

Jayapatākā Swami: “I have been sent by concerned persons to ask the Lord, `What is the use of staying in a village near the King?'”

Purport by Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura: If a sannyāsī lives in a capital city and becomes entangled by the inhabitants' affection, then under the influence of mental speculation and other's bad counsel the King's mind may turn hostile and he may begin to cause trouble. Therefore everyone decided that it was desirable for Lord Gaurasundara to go elsewhere.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, the devotees had discussed this, and this was their advice for Lord Caitanya.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.94

kahi’ ei kathā dvija gelā nija-sthāne
prabhure kariyā koṭi-daṇḍa-paraṇāme

Jayapatākā Swami: After delivering the message and offering millions of prostrate obeisances to Lord Caitanya, the brāhmaṇa returned to his home.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.95

prabhura pārṣadagaṇera hṛdaye cintāra udreka—

kathāśuni' īśvarera pāriṣada-gaṇe
sabe cintā-yukta hailena mane mane

Jayapatākā Swami: When Lord Caitanya's associates heard that message, they became somewhat worried, and they were thinking fearfully. Since the brāhmaṇa couldn’t speak to Lord Caitanya, he talked to all the people who were in the kirtana and he created fear in their minds and in this way the kīrtana was obstructed and Lord Caitanya noticed that people are not chanting enthusiastically as before.

Thus ends the chapter entitled, Fearing the Nawab Hussain Shah Bādasāha, a Messenger is Sent to Lord Caitanya
