In Every Town and Village My Name Will be Spread Part 1

Under the Section: The Lord’s Attempt to Go to Vṛndāvana

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.96

antardaśāya anukṣaṇa nimagna prabhura samīpe bhaktagaṇera ukta kathā balibāra avasarābhāva—

īśvarera sthāne se kahete nāhi kṣaṇa
bāhya nāhi prakāśena śrī-śacīnandana

Jayapatākā Swami: Even the associates also could not find a moment to speak to Lord Caitanya (about the message of the brāhmaṇa to leave Rāmakeli), because Śrī Śacīnandana did not manifest external consciousness. Lord Caitanya was in such ecstasy that he just chanted non-stop, and there was no chance to speak anything to Him. This is the perfect absorption of love of Kṛṣṇa.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.97

‘bola bola hari-bola hari-bola' bali'
ei mātra bale prabhu dui bāhu tuli'

Jayapatākā Swami: The Lord raised His two arms and would say only, “Chant! Chant! Chant the name of Hari! Chant the name of Hari!” Hari Bol! Hari Bol!

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.98

catur-dike mahānande koṭi koṭi loka
tāli diyā `hari' bale parama kautuka

Jayapatākā Swami: In the four directions, millions of people clapped their hands and joyfully chanted the names of Hari. Lord Caitanya taught everybody to engage in saṅkīrtana (congregational chanting of the holy name) and everyone was chanting Hari bol! dancing and observing the Lord in ecstasy.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.99

yāṅhāra sevakera nāma-smaraṇamātrai sarva-vighna vināśa haya, sei prabhura ābāra bhaya kothāya—

yāṅra sevakera nāma karile smaraṇa
sarva-vighna dūra haya, khaṇḍaye bandhana

Jayapatākā Swami: Simply by remembering the names of Lord Caitanya’s servants, all obstacles are vanquished and all entanglement is broken. Since this brāhmaṇa had spread the rumor that there was possible danger from the Mohammeden ruler, but this was observed, that even by chanting the names of the Lord’s servitors, that alone is sufficient to destroy all the obstacles, what worry they have?

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.100

yāṅhāra śaktite jīva bala kari' cale
paraṁ-brahma nitya-śuddha' yāṅre vede bale

Jayapatākā Swami: The living entities survive simply by Lord Caitanya’s potencies. The Vedas glorify Lord Caitanya as the eternally pure Supreme Brahman.

Purport by Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura: In the Śrīmad Bhāgavatam (7.8.7) it is stated: sa vai balaṁ balināṁ cāpareṣām—“He is not only your strength or mine, but the only strength for everyone.”

Jayapatākā Swami: So, Prahlāda Mahārāja had explained to Hiraṇyakaśipu who was very powerful by the mercy of Lord Brahmā that everyone gets their strength only from the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.101

yāṅhāra māyāya jīva pāsari' āpanā
baddha hai' pāiyāche saṁsāra-vāsanā

Jayapatākā Swami: The living entities have forgotten who they are. They have become conditioned and have developed material desires simply by the influence of Lord Caitanya’’s illusory energy.

Purport by Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura: In the Caitanya-caritāmṛta (Madhya 20.117) it is stated:

kṛṣṇa bhuli' sei jīva anādi-bahirmukha
ataeva māyā tāre deya saṁsāra-duḥkha

“Forgetting Kṛṣṇa, the living entity has been attracted by the external feature from time immemorial. Therefore the illusory energy [māyā] gives him all kinds of misery in his material existence.”

Jayapatākā Swami: So, if we analyse the source of our suffering, we will see that the root is the misidentification of our self as the body, although we are trying to enjoy the senses we end up suffering. So, by realizing our actual position as servitor of the Lord then we can have real peace and happiness.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.102

se-prabhu āpane sarva-jīva uddhārite
avatariyāche bhakti-rase pṛthivīte

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Caitanya personally appeared in this world to relish the mellows of devotional service and to deliver all living entities. This gives the mission of Lord Caitanya.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.103

bhayamūrti yamakālādi sakalei śrī-caitanya-ājñāvāhaka—

kon vā tāhane rājā, kāre tāṅra bhaya?
`yama-kāla-ādi yāṅra bhṛtya vede kaya'

Jayapatākā Swami: What can a king do to Lord Caitanya, and who can instill fear in Him? The Vedas declare that even Yamarāja and Time are Lord Caitanya’s servants.

Purport by Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura: In the śrutis it is stated:

yad-bhayād vati vāto 'yaṁ
sūryas tapati yad-bhayāt
dahaty agnir varṣatīndro
mṛtyuś carati pañcamaḥ

“Out of fear of Him the wind blows. Out of fear of Him the sun shines. Out of fear of Him fire burns and Indra gives rain. Out of fear of Him death wanders about taking its toll.” In the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam (9.4.54) it is stated: sarve vayaṁ yan-niyamaṁ prapannā—“All of us surrender to His supreme direction.” In the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam (7.8.7) it is stated: brahmādayo yena vaśaṁ praṇītāḥ—“Everyone, including Lord Brahmā, is controlled by the strength of the Supreme Personality of Godhead.”

Jayapatākā Swami: So, Lord Sri Caitanya descend to deliver the fallen souls and to relish His own devotion. This confidential pastime of the Lord, that the Supreme Personality of Godhead coming as a devotee is very special. This is a great opportunity for all the human beings to get delivered.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.104

svacchande karena sabā' lai' saṅkīrtana
sarva-loka-cūḍāmaṇi śrī-śacī-nandana

Jayapatākā Swami: Out of His own sweet will Lord Śrī Śacīnandana, the crest jewel of all living entities, continued to perform saṅkīrtana with everyone. In Śvetāśvatara Upaniṣad it is stated that Nityo nityānāṁ cetanaś cetanānām, that among all the eternal living entities there is one Supreme eternal living entity, and among all the conscious living entities there is one Supreme consciousness. So, Kṛṣṇa is a person and He had different pastimes in His different incarnations. So His incarnation as Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu is considered to be the most merciful, since His mission is to deliver all the fallen souls

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.105

caturdika haite āgantuka vyaktigaṇera paryanta prabhura kṛpāya nirbhayatā—

āchuka tāhāna bhaya, tāhāne dekhite
yateka āise loka catur-dika haite

Jayapatākā Swami: What to speak of Lord Caitanya, even those who came from the four directions to see Him became fearless. This is the great feature of Lord Caitanya’s pastimes, not only was He fearless but everyone who saw Him became fearless.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.106

tāhārāi keho bhaya nā kare rājāre
hena se ānanda diyāchena sabākāre

Jayapatākā Swami: No one had any fear of the King. Such was the ecstasy bestowed on everyone by Lord Caitanya.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.107-108

yadyapiha sarva-loka parama ajñāna
tathāpiha dekhiyā caitanya bhagavān

hena se ānanda janme lokera śarīre
‘yama' kari' bhaya nāhi, ki dāya rājāre?

Jayapatākā Swami: Although the people were all completely uneducated, after seeing Lord Caitanya they experienced such happiness that they were not afraid of Yamarāja, and what to speak of the King? Lord Caitanya gave everyone transcendental bliss and in this blissful happiness, they didn’t fear anyone, be it Yamarāja or even the King.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.109

nirantara sarva-loka kare hari-dhvani
kāra mukhe āra kona śabda nāhi śuni

Jayapatākā Swami: They all constantly chanted the name of Hari. Indeed, no other sound could be heard coming from their mouths. Lord Caitanya had everybody chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa mahā-mantra or Hari bol and in this everyone was completely Kṛṣṇa conscious.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.110

hena mate mahāprabhu vaikuṇṭha-īśvara
saṅkīrtana kare sarva-lokera bhitara

Jayapatākā Swami: In this way Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu, the Lord of Vaikuṇṭha, performed saṅkīrtana in the midst of the general populace. How the Lord chanted amidst of all the people, this truly special. The Lord was never so approachable as Lord Caitanya. Everyone could participate in saṅkīrtana (the congregational chanting of the holy name) with Him.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.111

antaryāmī prabhura ukti—

mane kichu cintā pāilena bhakta-gaṇa
jānilena antaryāmīśrī-śacī-nandana

Jayapatākā Swami: As the Supersoul in everyone's heart, Lord Śrī Śacīnandana realized that His devotees were a little worried. The Supreme Lord is conscious of what everyone is thinking, we  may only be conscious with what is happening with our body or our mind, but Lord Kṛṣṇa Caitanya is aware of what everyone is thinking therefore He could understand that everyone is bit worried.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.112

īṣat hāsiyā kichu bāhya prakāśiyā
lāgilā kahite prabhu māyā ghucāiyā

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Caitanya smiled as He somewhat returned to external consciousness and began speaking to remove their doubts.

Purport by Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura: The word māyā means “doubt,” “suspicion,” or “anxiety.”

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.113

svamukhe prabhura sarva-śaktimattā o vedaguhyatva prakāśa—

prabhu bale,—“tumi-saba bhaya pāo mane
rājā āmā' dekhibāre nibe ki kāraṇe?

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Caitanya said, “You are all afraid. But why would the King want to see Me?

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.114

āmā' cāhe hena jana āmi o tā' cāṅa
sabā' āmā' cāhe hena kothāo nā pāṅa

Jayapatākā Swami: “If anyone desires to meet me, I also want to meet such a person anyone who desires to meet Me, but I have not found that everyone wants to see Me. Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu is sharing His realization that if anyone wants to meet, He wants to meet that person. But not everyone wants to meet Him. So, if anyone is anxious to meet Lord Caitanya they can engage in the Harināma saṅkīrtana and think and desire to meet the Lord.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.115

tomarā ihāte kene bhaya pāo mane?
rājā āmā' cāhe āmi yāiba āpane

Jayapatākā Swami: “So why are you afraid in this regard? If the King wants to see Me, I will go see him personally. He is encouraging devotees not to be worried.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.116

rājā vā āmāre kene baliba cāhite?
ki śakti rājāra e-vā bola uccārite?

Jayapatākā Swami: “How can the King say he wants to see Me? What power does the King have to say such things (that he can call me to see him)? The Nawab had mentioned earlier that His order is followed in the Kingdom, but Lord Caitanya’s order is followed throughout the world.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.117

āmi yadi balāi se rājāra mukhete
tabe se balibe rājā āmāre cāhite

Jayapatākā Swami: “The King will say that he wants to see Me only if I inspire him to say through his mouth. Lord Caitanya as a Supersoul He can control what everyone says, if He inspires the King that He want to see Lord Caitanya, then he will do so, otherwise not.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 4.118

āmā' dekhibāre śakti kon vā tāhāra?
vede anveṣiyā dekhā nā pāya āmāra

Jayapatākā Swami: “Otherwise what power does he have to see Me? Even the Vedas cannot see Me after intense search. Lord Caitanya is revealing His actual position that He is the Supreme Personality of Godhead and He cannot be seen by searching after Him. He can only be seen if He reveals himself out of His own sweet will.

Purport by Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura: “The Supreme Lord is the ultimate goal of all Vedic literatures. Even the personified Vedas cannot attain My darśana after intense search. Therefore no one can see Me by their own strength unless I personally empower them. The Absolute Truth is Adhokṣaja, or beyond the jurisdiction of sense perception. If for any reason the King becomes suspicious, he may order that I be brought before him. There is no need to be afraid of this. A person wants or desires Me only if I want him. Only a person who accepts the worship of Hari as his goal of life will desire Me, others will not.”

Jayapatākā Swami: Here Lord Caitanya is revealing the secret of how to desire Him, by accepting Lord Hari as the goal of life.
