mūkaṁ karoti vācālaṁ paṅguṁ laṅghayate girim
yat-kṛpā tam ahaṁ vande śrī-guruṁ dīna-tāraṇam

Introduction: Today we are continuing with the compilation of Śrī Kṛṣṇa Caitanya Book, today’s chapter entitled:

Sārvabhauma Bhaṭṭācārya Feeds Mahā-prasāda to the Devotees - Part 2

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.499

prabhura bhojana-vilāsa— 

se bhojane yateka haila prema-raṅga
vedavyāsa varṇibena se saba prasaṅga 

Jayapatākā Swami: The ecstatic loving happiness manifested while Lord Caitanya ate prasāda with His devotees will be described in the future by Veda-vyāsa. Actually, Lord Kṛṣṇa would take His midmeal with His cowherd friends in the forest of Vṛndāvana and in the same way Lord Caitanya was taking Jagannātha prasāda with His friends in Nīlācala.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 2.16.187

jagannātha-anna-mahā-prasāda pāiyā
mastake bandilā prabhu hāsiyā hāsiyā 

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Caitanya in attaining Lord Jagannātha’s maha-prasāda, food remnants, Lord Caitanya bowed His head down in respectful obeisances smiling profusely.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 2.16.188

huṅkāra karila eka gambhīra śabade
brahmāṇḍa bharila sei prabhu siṁhanāde 

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Caitanya filled the whole universe with a deep and grave voice; thundering and thus the whole universe was filled with His lionlike roaring.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 2.16.189

deva, gandharva, nara, śṛgāla, kukkura
āilā gaurāṅga kāche yata nāgakula 

Jayapatākā Swami: At that time a host of demigods, gandharvas, human beings, jackals, dogs, and snakes came before Lord Gaurāṅga.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 2.16.190

sabhāra mukhete sei prasāda ānande
dekhe gadādhara ādi prabhu nityānande 

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Caitanya fed that mahā-prasāda of Lord Jagannātha with great joy in the mouths all those who had come. This was seen by Lord Nityananda, Gadadhara, and the other personal associates saw this.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 2.16.191

keho nā kahila kichu tattva saba jāne
prasāda pāila saba lañā bhaktagaṇe 

Jayapatākā Swami: No one said anything about this truth of this pastime, they knew everything. They took prasāda with all the devotees.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 2.16.192

nijajana-saṅge anna karila bhojana
henakāle śrīnivāsa kahila vacana 

Jayapatākā Swami: Then Lord Caitanya with His associates ate that mahā-prasāda at that time Śrivasa said the following:

Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 2.16.193

eka nivedena, prabhu kahite ḍarāṅ
nirbhaye puchiye prabhu yadi ājñā pāṅ 

Jayapatākā Swami: “Lord Caitanya, I have a request to ask, but I fear to speak. I will ask fearlessly, Lord, if You give Your permission.”

Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 2.16.194

prasāda pāiyā tumi hāsilā yekāle
cakita dekhila ihā kahibe āmāre 

Jayapatākā Swami: “As I see, You were eating the prasāda I was surprised to see You at that time, joyfully smile and laugh. Please tell me the reason You smiled and laughed in that way.”

Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 2.16.195

e bola śuniñā prabhu adhika ullāsa
kahaye antara kathā kariyā prakāśa 

Jayapatākā Swami: Hearing these words, Lord Caitanya became more joyful. Revealing His heart, He manifested the following:

Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 2.16.196

kātyāyanī-pratijñāya prasāda hena dhana
śṛgāla, kukkure khāya–śunaha brāhmaṇa 

Jayapatākā Swami: “Please hear, O brāhmaṇa, Because of Goddess Kātyāyanī's vow the dogs and jackals eat the great treasure of Jagannātha-prasāda.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 2.16.197

indra, candra, gandharva kibā devagaṇe
sabhāra durllabha vastu–nā pāi yatane 

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Indra, Candra, and all the demigods and gandharvas its very rare for them to achieve this prasāda. Even with an endeavor they don’t get.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 2.16.198

nārada-prahlāda-śuka-ādi bhaktagaṇa
tāhāra durllabha ei–kahila marama 

Jayapatākā Swami: Even Nārada, Prahlāda, Śukadeva and all the other great devotees for them it is difficult to achieve it. Right now, I have revealed My heart.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 2.16.199

hena mahā-prasāda bhuñjaye sabajane
kahila marama-kathā ei mora mane 

Jayapatākā Swami: That rare mahā-prasāda, now every living entity eats. I have revealed the secret that was in My heart.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 2.16.200

hena mahā-prasāda pāiyā ye vā jana
annabuddhi kariyā vā nā kare bhakṣaṇa 

Jayapatākā Swami: Anyone who, somehow attains mahā-prasāda, thinks it only ordinary food, and thus does not eat it...

Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 2.16.201

pūrva-janmārjjita tāra āchila ye dharma
seho naṣṭa haya se śūkara-yoni janma 

Jayapatākā Swami: Whatever piety he has received in his previous births he loses all this and he certainly takes birth in the womb of a pig.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 2.16.202

kukkurera mukhe haite paḍe yadi tabhu
pāile mātra khābe-ithe doṣa nāhi kabhu

Jayapatākā Swami: Even if this prasāda falls from the mouth of a dog, as soon as he obtains such prasāda he should immediately eat, as there is never any defect in this.” So, its rare somehow, we got Balaji mahā-prasāda from Tirumala Tirupati and we also got Jagannātha mahā-prasāda, I would like to offer the prasāda to you.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.500

aśeṣa kautuke kari' bhojana-vilāsa
vasilena prabhu, bhakta-varga cāri-pāśa 

Jayapatākā Swami: After joyfully completing this pastime of eating mahā-prasāda, Lord Caitanya sat down with all His devotees on all sides.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 2.16.203

tabe mahā-prabhu bhikṣā karila sādare
sandhyākāle yāya jagannātha dekhibāre 

Jayapatākā Swami: Then Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu respectfully ate mahā-prasāda. At dusk He went to have darśana of Lord Jagannātha.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.501

nīlācale prabhura bhojana mahā-raṅga
ihāra śravaṇe haya caitanyera saṅga 

Jayapatākā Swami: By hearing Lord Caitanya’s pastimes of eating mahā-prasāda at Nīlācala, whoever hears these pastimes will attain the association of Lord Caitanya.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.502

śeṣa-khaṇḍe caitanya āilā nīlācale
e ākhyāna śunile bhāsaye prema-jale 

Jayapatākā Swami: So, this from Caitanya-bhāgavata, this is last khaṇḍa of Caitanya-bhāgavata, its Madhya-khaṇḍa, of Caitanya-caritāmṛta. So, whoever hears about Lord Caitanya or who reaches Nīlācala hearing the descriptions one will float in the ocean of love of Kṛṣṇa.

So when we are hearing this pastimes of how Lord Caitanya arriving in Jagannātha Purī and how He took prasāda very blissfully one can achieve the association of Lord Caitanya and He can float in the ocean of spiritual bliss of love for Kṛṣṇa. So, hearing how the Lord was giving the mercy to all the living entities we can see that there is hope for us since He is giving out all the mercy to everyone similarly, we can also get His mercy.

Thus ends the chapter entitled

So, this way just by hearing this pastime we can all get the special blessings that we get the association of Lord Caitanya and float on the ocean of spiritual love. Since Lord Caitanya experienced to spiritual bliss on the way to Jagannātha Purī, it would normally take two hours but it took nine hours. So, like that He fell unconscious in the Jagannātha Purī temple and was carried to the house of Sārvabhauma Bhaṭṭācārya and how Sārvabhauma Bhaṭṭācārya fed all the devotees Jagannātha mahā-prasāda.

So, in the history which was told in this verse of this book, how Lord Śiva got the mahā-prasāda of Kṛṣṇa and He was dancing in ecstasy. Kātyāyanī she eventually asked Lord Śiva, “What made him very blissful? he said that He got some of Jagannātha mahā-prasāda but then Pārvatī asked Him, “I am your half, so you didn’t save any prasāda for me then Śiva said, “No!” So, she asked, “Why not?” then He said “You are not qualified!”, “Ah! What! how did you say that? I am Viṣṇu-śakti and I am devotee of Lord Viṣṇu, why can’t I take His prasāda?” And then She said that, “I will see that dogs, jackals everybody will get mahā-prasāda!” so she was upset that Lord Śiva couldn’t calm Her down and Lord Viṣṇu had to come and do some marriage counselling, he took her side and He said, “All My prasāda will be first offered to you!” And thus He satisfied her. Lord Śiva His temple is in extreme end of Jagannātha Purī dhāma and Bimalā-devī, Pārvatī, her temple is just next to Jagannātha temple and all the prasāda offered to Jagannath first offered to Bimalā-devī. While Lord Caitanya was remembering how Lord Viṣṇu had promised her and how all the demigods, dogs, jackals human beings everyone got prasāda because of the benediction of Pārvatī.
