mūkaṁ karoti vācālaṁ paṅguṁ laṅghayate girim
yat-kṛpā tam ahaṁ vande śrī-guruṁ dīna-tāraṇam
paramānandaṁ mādhavaṁ śrī caitanya iśvaram

Hariḥ oṁ tat sat! 

Introduction: Today we are continuing with the compilation of Śrī Kṛṣṇa Caitanya Book, today’s chapter is entitled as:  

Lord Caitanya Comes to External Consciousness

Caitanya-bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.470

bhaktagaṇera sārvabhauma-gṛhe pratyāvartana— 

ājñā-mālā pāiyā sabe santoṣita-mane
āilā satvare sārvabhaumera bhavane 

Jayapatākā Swami: Having received the Lord's prasāda in the form of His garlands, they were mentally very blissful and they joyfully returned quickly to house of Sārvabhauma Bhaṭṭācārya. So Lord Caitanya was carried or brought to the house of Sārvabhauma Bhaṭṭācārya, then the devotees after getting their prasāda from Lord Jagannātha, they also came to Sārvabhauma Bhaṭṭācārya’s house.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.471

prabhu takhanao antardaśāya nimagna— 

prabhura ānanda-mūrcchā haila ye-mate bāhya nāhi bhileka, āchena sei mate 

Jayapatākā Swami: The Lord Caitanya in transcendental ecstasy, He lost consciousness. Even a tinge of external consciousness was not manifested and He remained in that way.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.472

prabhupadatale upaviṣṭa sārvabhauma o bhaktagaṇa-kartṛka nāma-kīrtana— 

vasiyā āchena sārvabhauma pada-tale
catur-dike bhakta-gaṇa `rāma-kṛṣṇa' bale 

Jayapatākā Swami: Sārvabhauma Bhaṭṭācārya was sitting at the lotus feet of Lord Caitanya, and in all direction the devotees were chanting the names of Kṛṣṇa and Rāma on all sides.

Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 6.37

prabhura nikaṭa sakalera uccakīrtana o prabhura vāhyadaśā-prāpti :— 

ucca kari’ kare sabe nāma-saṅkīrtana
tṛtīya prahare haila prabhura cetana

Translation: All of the devotees then began to loudly chant the Hare Kṛṣṇa mantra. Just before noon the Lord regained His consciousness.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.473

tina prahareo prabhura vāhyadaśā prakāśita nahe— 

acintya agamya gauracandrera carita
tina-prahare o bāhya nahe kadācita

Jayapatākā Swami: The characteristics of Lord Gauracandra are inconceivable and unfathomable. He did not regain external consciousness for a moment even after nine hours.

Purport (by Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura): In this regard one should see Madhvācārya's commentary on the Vedānta-sūtra (1.1.10). In the Mahābhārata (Śānti-parva 207.49) it is stated: “O Yudhiṣṭhira, this most powerful, lotus-eyed Keśava is the inconceivable Personality of Godhead. No one should consider Him an ordinary human being.”

Murāri Gupta Kaḍaca 3.11.19

Translation: Śrī Gaurāṅga regained external consciousness in the fine house of Sārvabhauma, and at once performed saṅkīrtana of Narahari. Then the emperor of all enjoyers, His golden body became covered with pulakas, began to dance.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, when Lord Caitanya regained His consciousness. He immediately went into ecstasy and His hairs was standing on end and He began to dance in ecstasy

Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 2.16.173

sārvabhauma ghare prabhura samvedana haila
guṇasaṅkīrtane punaḥ nācite lāgila 

Jayapatākā Swami: In Sārvabhauma Bhaṭṭācārya’s home, Lord Caitanya regained his external consciousness, He was singing the glories of Lord in saṅkīrtana, again He danced.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.474

prabhura vāhya-prakāśa— 

kṣaṇeke uṭhilā sarva-jagata-jīvana
hari-dhvani karite lāgilā bhakta-gaṇa 

Jayapatākā Swami: After a while the life of the entire universe, Lord Caitanya regained His external consciousness and the devotees began chanting the holy names of Hari, hari bol! Hari bol!

Caitanya-bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.475

prabhura nija-vṛttānta bhaktagaṇake jijñāsā— 

sthira hai' prabhu jijñāsena sabā'-sthāne
“kaha dekhi āji mora kon vivaraṇe” 

Jayapatākā Swami: Becoming steady and peaceful Lord Caitanya asked everyone, “Tell Me, what happened to Me today?”

Caitanya-bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.476

nityānandera ānupūrvika sakala-kathā varṇana— 

śeṣe nityānanda prabhu kahite lāgilā
“jagannātha dekhi' mātra tumi mūrcchā gelā 

Jayapatākā Swami: Finally, Lord Nityānanda replied to Lord Caitanya, “Immediately after seeing Lord Jagannātha, You fell unconscious.”

Caitanya-bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.477

daive sārvabhauma āchilena sei sthāne 
dhari' tomā' ānilena āpana-bhavane 

Jayapatākā Swami: “By will of providence, Sārvabhauma Bhaṭṭācārya was present there at the time. He caught hold of You and brought You to his own house.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.478

ānanda-āveśe tumi hai' paravaśa
bāhya nā jānilā tina-prahara divasa 

Jayapatākā Swami: “You were so overwhelmed in ecstasy that You did not regain Your external consciousness for nine hours today.”

Caitanya-bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.479

prabhura nikaṭa sārvabhaumera paricaya-dāna— 

ei sārvabhauma namaskarena tomāre
āthe-vyathe prabhu sārvabhaume kole kare 

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Nityānanda said, “This is Sārvabhauma Bhaṭṭācārya offering You obeisances.” The Lord Caitanya then hurriedly embraced Sārvabhauma Bhaṭṭācārya.

Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 6.38

sārvabhaumera śiṣṭācāra :— 

huṅkāra kariyā uṭhe ’hari’ ’hari’ bali’
ānande sārvabhauma tāṅra laila pada-dhūli 

Translation: Caitanya Mahāprabhu got up and very loudly chanted, “Hari! Hari!” Sārvabhauma Bhaṭṭācārya was very pleased to see the Lord regain consciousness, and he took the dust of the Lord’s lotus feet.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 2.16.174

dekhi’ sārvabhauma vāsudeva bhaṭṭācārya 
hṛdaye āhlāda mahā dekhiyā āścarya 

Jayapatākā Swami: Seeing this, Vāsudeva Sārvabhauma Bhaṭṭācārya felt great bliss in his heart seeing this great wonder of Lord Caitanya.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.480

sārvabhaumera prati prabhura ukti— 

prabhu bale,—“jagannātha baḍa kṛpā-maya
ānilena more sārvabhaumera ālaya 

Jayapatākā Swami: The Lord Caitanya said, “Lord Jagannātha is most merciful, for He brought Me to the house of Sārvabhauma Bhaṭṭācārya.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.481

parama sandeha citte āchila āmāra
ki-rūpe pāiba āmi saṁhati tomāra 

Jayapatākā Swami: “I was most anxious; I do not know how I would attain your association.”

Caitanya-bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.482

kṛṣṇa tāhā pūrṇa karilena anāyāse
eta bali' sārvabhaume cāhi' prabhu hāse 

Jayapatākā Swami: “But Lord Kṛṣṇa has fulfilled My desire easily.” After speaking these words, Lord Caitanya looked at Sārvabhauma Bhaṭṭācārya and smiled. So, Lord Caitanya wanted to meet Sārvabhauma Bhaṭṭācārya and somehow, He was brought to the house and thus His desire was fulfilled.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.483

antardaśāya upanīta haibāra pūrva paryanta sārvabhaumera nikaṭa nija-ākhyāna kathana— 

prabhu bale,—“śuna āji āmāra ākhyāna
jagannātha āsi' dekhilāṅa vidyamāna 

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Caitanya then said, “Now hear what happened to Me today. I went and saw Lord Jagannātha personally present.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.484

jagannātha dekhi' citte haila āmāra 
dhari' āni' vakṣa-mājhe thui āpanāra 

Jayapatākā Swami: “When I saw Lord Jagannātha, I had a desire to embrace Him and bring Him to My chest.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.485

dharite gelāma mātra jagannātha āmi
tabe ki haila śeṣe āra nāhi jāni 

Jayapatākā Swami: “But after I went to embrace Lord Jagannātha, thereafter what happened I don't know.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.486

daive sārvabhauma āji āchilā nikaṭe
ataeva rakṣā haila e mahāsaṅkaṭe 

Jayapatākā Swami: “By the will of providence Sārvabhauma Bhaṭṭācārya was there at that time, so I was saved from a great calamity. So, this verse seems to belong before after the first visit of Lord Caitanya. Then second visit comes, but Lord Caitanya fallen unconscious, He didn’t remember anything after that, because Sārvabhauma Bhaṭṭācārya was there and he saved Him from being beaten by the guards and then was brought to Sārvabhauma Bhaṭṭācārya house. His intention was also to meet Sārvabhauma Bhaṭṭācārya and that happened automatically by the will of Lord Jagannātha. So, like that the pastimes of Lord Caitanya are unfathomable and totally transcendental.

Thus, ends the chapter entitled Lord Caitanya Comes to External Consciousness
