The following is a reading from the new Śrī Kṛṣṇa Caitanya Book by His Holiness Jayapatākā Swami Mahārāja on January 7th,2019 in Chennai, India.

mūkaṁ karoti vācālaṁ paṅguṁ laṅghayate girim
yat-kṛpā tam ahaṁ vande śrī-guruṁ dīna-tāraṇam
paramānandaṁ mādhavaṁ śrī caitanya iśvaram

Hariḥ oṁ tat sat!

So this is a new chapter entitled

“Mother Śacī is telling Gadādhara or pleading Gadādhara to always stay with Viśvambhara.”

So before we translate the śloka I will just give a brief report.

Introduction: Today was Monday, so I had physiotherapy in the morning, then voice therapy at 11.30 and then noon prasāda. I had breakfast, pre-lunch and lunch. Then took little rest and then woke up and talked to some devotees by phone and then went out tricycling. At 6 ‘O clock I took my special medicine and continued to cycle. The physiotherapist said that this is very good to exercise my leg muscles and core. Then I came back here for dinner. I had taco prasāda. gṛhe thāko vane thāko – this is Mexican taco!! So then now I am giving class.

Jayapatākā Swami: One day Gadādhara with beetle nut in His hand, happily came before Lord Viśvambhara and Viśvambhara asked Him where was Kṛṣṇa to be found?

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 2.203

gadādhare dekhi’ prabhu karena jijñāsā
“kothā kṛṣṇa āchena śyāmala pīta-vāsā?”

Jayapatākā Swami: Seeing Gadādhara, Viśvambhara asked a valid question. “Where is Kṛṣṇa, who is blackish and wearing a yellow cloth?”

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 2.204

prabhura kṛṣṇapremārti-darśane gadādhara nirvāka—

se ārti dekhite sarva-hṛdaya vidare
ki bola balibe,—hena vacana na sphure

Jayapatākā Swami: All the devotees there felt as if their hearts were pierced on seeing the Lord’s intense separation. Everyone was perplexed. What to say? And no words came to their mouths! The devotees who were assembled there, were unable to find suitable words to solace the Lord, who was afflicted with feelings of separation from Kṛṣṇa. So, they became speechless. Sometimes devotees wonder, since Kṛṣṇa is back to His spiritual abode, how will they develop love of Kṛṣṇa? But Lord Caitanya showed that by separation, with feelings of longing for the Lord, one could experience pure love of Kṛṣṇa.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 2.205

vyastatā-krame gadādharera ukti—

sambhrame balena gadādhara-mahāśaya
“niravadhi thāke kṛṣṇa tomāra hṛdaya”

Jayapatākā Swami: The great Gadādhara anxiously replied, Kṛṣṇa, always resides in Your heart.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 2.206

prabhura sba-bakṣo-bidāraṇa-ceṣṭā—

‘hṛdaye āchena kṛṣṇa’ vacana śuniyā
āpana-hṛdaya prabhu cire nakha diyā

Jayapatākā Swami: As soon as He heard that the Lord, Kṛṣṇa was in His heart, He began to scratch at His chest with His finger nails.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 2.207

atikaṣṭe gadādharera prabhuke nivāraṇa o sāntanā—

āthe-vyathe gadādhara dui hāte dharī’
nānā-mate prabodhi’ rākhilā sthira kari’

Jayapatākā Swami: Very quickly Gadādhara caught the Lord’s two hands and pacified Him with various words, of solace and thus He became calm.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 2.208

dūra haite śacīra gadādharera yābatīẏa-ceṣṭā-darśana o harṣabhare tatpraśaṃsā—

“ei āsibena kṛṣṇa, sthira hao mane”
gadādhara bale, āi dekhena āpane

Jayapatākā Swami: Gadādhara said, be patient. Kṛṣṇa will soon come here, as mother Śacī looked on.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 2.209

baḍa tuṣṭa hailā āi gadādhara-prati
“e-mata śiśura buddhi nāhi dekhi kati

Jayapatākā Swami: Mother Śacī became very satisfied with Gadādhara and thought I haven’t seen such an intelligent boy before!

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 2.210

muñi bhaye nāhi pāri sammukha haite
śiśu hai’ kemana prabodhila bhāla-mate”

Jayapatākā Swami: Out of fear, I cannot go before my Son. How nicely, being a boy, how He has pacified the Lord very effectively!

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 2.211

āi bale,—“bāpa! tumi sarvadā thākibā
chāḍiyā uhāra saṅga kothā nā yāibā”

Jayapatākā Swami: Mother Śacī said, my dear boy, You always remain with Him. Do not leave Him and go anywhere else!

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 2.212

adbhuta prabhura prema-yoga dekhi’ āi
putra-hena jñāna āra mane kichu nāi

Jayapatākā Swami: On seeing the Lord’s wonderful ecstatic love, mother Śacī didn’t consider the Lord as her son. So as Devakī had motherly love mixed with opulence, mother Śacī manifested that kind of vātsalya-rasa or motherly love.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 2.213

mane bhāve āi,—“e puruṣa nara nahe
manuṣyera nayane ki eta dhārā bahe!

Jayapatākā Swami: So mother Śacī thought, this person is not a human being! Can any ordinary human being’s eyes produce tears - like that from the eyes of Viśvambhara? Mother Śacī was thinking that Viśvambhara is certainly some uncommon extraordinary personality. He was not an ordinary human being!

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 2.214

nāhi jāni āsiyāche kon mahāśaya”
bhaye āi prabhura sammukha nāhi haya

Jayapatākā Swami: Mother Śacī thought, I don’t know what great personality has come to our family or appeared in my family! Out of fear, mother Śacī did not come before the Lord.

Thus ends the 52nd chapter of Kṛṣṇa Caitanya the Supreme Personality of Godhead as a devotee, in the matter of “Mother Śacī pleads with Gadādhara to always stay with Viśvambhara.”

So any questions?

We see that in this chapter how Gadādhara, He protected Viśvambhara from hurting Himself, by taking literally that Kṛṣṇa was in His heart. He tried to rip His chest open, but Gadādhara caught His hands and pacified the Lord. So, this impressed mother Śacī! And she requested that He always stay with Viśvambhara and not go anywhere else! Before, mother Śacī would teach her little boy, like Yaśodā would teach Kṛṣṇa, Nanda-nandana. But here she started to become awe struck by the ecstatic love of her Son. So, she turned to the parental love of Devakī having motherly affection, at the same time being awe struck with some respect.

The repeater read the names of devotees online.

Kaivalya Sundarī devī dāsī: Did Gadādhara being the expansion of Rādhārāṇī understand that Lord Caitanya was really Kṛṣṇa but in the mood of Rādhārāṇī. If not at this point, did it happen at some point?

Jayapatākā Swami: Yes, Rādhārāṇī had desired that one time She could come as a male so that She could freely associate with Lord Kṛṣṇa. So, she came as Gadādhara and freely associated with Viśvambhara. But Lord Caitanya revealed couple of times that He was Kṛṣṇa. So, He went with Gadādhara to see Advaita. We heard that a couple of days ago, and Advaita Ācārya, He said that in so many words, that Viśvambhara was the source of everything. So Gadādhara, being very smart, must have understood that Viśvambhara was Kṛṣṇa.

So thank you all very much!
