Introduction: Transcendental, blissful, wishes for the New year!! Kṛṣṇābdha 2019. Although our official new year is at Gaura-pūrṇimā time, since we all live by the Christian calendar 2019 it is the first day of the year today. So, you use your day very Kṛṣṇa consciously. Śrīla Prabhupāda would always congratulate devotees for their preaching and book distribution and then he would say to double it. So now in the year 2019 we hope that all the devotees would work together to double the number of practitioners of Kṛṣṇa consciousness and to double every aspect of the pracāra, the outreach program, the Dāmodara month, the Bhakti-vṛkṣa groups, the nāmahaṭṭa groups, the temple congregation and festivals and internet outreach, children outreach, prison outreach, etc.

So this is a new chapter, Lord Caitanya, Viśvambhara and Gadādhara met Advaita Ācārya.

Today being the New Year’s Day, our physiotherapist took leave. He said that he has to pray for the wellbeing of the world, for the coming year. So, I did my therapy with the local devotees. I took simple prasāda and we prepared for Ekādaśī tomorrow. We had some god-siblings come and visit me. So, in this way we also cycled going around three buildings and covering almost 400 cycles. So, we have a brief class and then questions and answers.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 2.126

ekadā gadādhara-saṅge prabhura māyāpure advaita-darśane gamana

eka-dina prabhu-gadādhara kari’ saṅge
advaita dekhite prabhu calilena raṅge

Jayapatākā Swami: One day, Lord Viśvambhara, taking Gadādhara with Him, went to see Advaita, in a happy mood.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 2.127

advaita prabhuke āpanabhāve kṛṣṇa arcanarata-darśana

advaita dekhilā giyā prabhu-dui-jana
vasiyā karena jala-tulasī-sevana

Jayapatākā Swami: The two Lords, Lord Viśvambhara and Lord Gadādhara, saw Advaita sitting and offering water and Tulasī leaves, worshipping the Lord. Maybe instead of saying Lord for Viśvambhara and Gadādhara just say Prabhu. Since they are devotees they are addressed by other devotees as Prabhu or master.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 2.128

dui bhuja āsphāliyā bale ‘hari hari’
kṣaṇe hāse, kṣaṇe kānde, āpanā pāsari’

Jayapatākā Swami: Advaita Ācārya raised His two hands in the air and said, Hari Hari!! One moment He was laughing; one moment He was crying! He completely forgot Himself!!

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 2.129

mahā-matta siṁha yena karaye huṅkāra
krodha dekhi,—yena mahā-rudra-avatāra

Jayapatākā Swami: As an intoxicated lion roars very loudly, His wrath was very intense, like the incarnation of the great Rudra.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 2.130

sa bhakta-śreṣṭha advaitake darśanamātra prabhura mūrchā

advaite dekhibā-mātra prabhu viśvambhara
paḍilā mūrchita hai’ pṛthivī-upara

Jayapatākā Swami: As soon as Prabhu Lord Viśvambhara saw Advaita, He fell unconscious to the ground.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 2.131

pracchannāvatārī ātma-saṅgopanakārī svīya prabhura darśanamātra tāṅhāke prakāśye pūjanecchā o yathā-vidhi arcana

bhakti-yoga-prabhāve advaita mahā-bala
‘ei mora prāṇa-nātha’ jānilā sakala

Jayapatākā Swami: By the power of His great devotion, My dear Advaita could understand and tell that this is the Lord of My life. He told everyone.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 2.132

‘kati yābe corā āji?’—bhāve mane-mane
“eta-dina curi kari’ bula’ eikhāne!

Jayapatākā Swami: Where will You go thief, today? He is thinking to Himself. For so many days you were just hiding like a thief, wandering all around! Here Advaita Ācārya is seeing that the Lord is acting like a thief, one who conceals His identity and He deceives by hiding His identity. So, this is true because as Nimāi Paṇḍita He was not showing His real nature of devotion. So these were the confidential thoughts of Advaita Gosāñi.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 2.133

advaitera ṭhāñi tora nā lāge corāi!
corera upare curi kariba ethāi!”

Jayapatākā Swami: Here Your thievery won’t work against this Advaita. In fact, I rather will steal from this thief. Right here! So Advaita felt He was being cheated by the Lord by this act of hiding His real identity. So Advaita thought I will similarly take advantage of His present condition by stealing and plundering from this thief!! In this case, I will openly worship Him and disclose His superior position without Him knowing it!!

So we will start from this point tomorrow. Are there any questions?

Names of devotees attending the session were read out by the repeater.

Someone asked about spiritual master coming in the dream.

Gaurāṅga Karuṇāsindhu dāsa: How seriously should we consider it when one’s spiritual master appears in dreams and giving Kṛṣṇa conscious instructions? Is this the spiritual master directly, Caitya-guru appearing in the form of our guru, or could it be just our mental speculation? How to properly understand this?

Jayapatākā Swami: Well you can always as the guru. My email is jayapataka@gmail.com. If you ate ten pizzas before going to bed, and if you see in the dream that the guru is riding on a pizza like a magical plane, it is probably because you ate too many pizzas. But if you have a perfectly normal dream, in which the guru is not doing anything weird, then it is probably true. You can always write to the guru and confirm, if it is something important. Hare Kṛṣṇa!
