yat-kṛpā tam ahaṁ vande śrī-guruṁ dīna-tāraṇam
paramānandaṁ mādhavaṁ śrī caitanya iśvaram

Śrī Caitanya-candrāmṛtam 12

premadhikkṛ tavaikuṇṭha; sannyāsa-līlābhinayakārī gauraharira vandanā—

pravāhairaśrūṇāṁ navajaladakoṭī iva dṛśau
dadhānaṁ premarddhyā paramapada-koṭī-prahasanam
vamantaṁ mādhuryeramṛtanidhi-koṭīriva tanu-
cchaṭābhistaṁ vande harimahaha sannyāsakapaṭam

Anuvāda: Yini ajasra aśrupravāhe koṭī navajaladhara-sama nayana-yugala dhāraṇa kariyāchena, yāṅhāra prema-sampatti koṭi parama-pada vā vaikuṇṭhakeo prahasana-sama sāmānya pratipanna kariteche, yāṅhāra śrī-aṅga-saundarya o mādhurya yena koṭi-koṭi amṛta-sindhu udagīraṇa kariteche, yini (loke sannyāsirūpe tām̐hāke darśana o praṇāma kariẏā ajñāta-sukṛti-phale kṛṣṇa-bhakti lābha karibe baliyā, kṛpāpūrvaka) chala-krame sannyāsa-veśa dhāraṇa kariyāchena, sei śrī-gauraharike āmi vandanā kari.

Translation: I offer my respects to the Lord Gaurahari acting as a sannyāsa, whose are eyes like million rain clouds flowing with streams of tears, whose wealth of prema derides millions of Vaikuṇṭhas, who ejects a million oceans of nectar by the sweetness of His physical beauty.

Jayapatākā Swami: In the beginning of the book the author offers obeisances to the Lord, and he glorifies some of His qualities. So they use some similes, allegories, they say that His eyes are compared to clouds and the clouds are pouring rain because His eyes are always crying in ecstasy. So He is pouring unlimited tears from His eyes. So, Lord Caitanya is described here that, He has great wealth. But that wealth is the wealth of the spiritual world and that the love which is pouring from His eyes derides the wealth of millions of Vaikuṇṭhas, means it is much greater than the Vaikuṇṭhas, and His physical beauty is like millions of oceans of nectar. So, this Lord Caitanya, He is incomparable. His physical sweetness, beauty, His incessant tears coming from His eyes, all the things are transcendental.

Śrī Caitanya-candrāmṛtam Maṅgalācaraṇa Verse 8

premānanda-sindhura candra śrī-caitanyacandrera namaskāra—

namaścaitanyacandrāya
koṭicandrānanatviṣe
premānandābdhicandrāya
cārucandrāṁśuhāsine

Anuvāda: Yāṅhāra śrī-mukha-kānti koṭi-koṭi pūrṇacandrera śobhā haiteo sundara, yini premānanda-payodhira sudhāṁ-śusvarūpa, yāṅhāra mukhapadmera madhura hāsya candrakiraṇera nyāya manohara, sei śrī-caitanyacandrake āmarā namaskāra kari.

Translation: Let me offer my respectful obeisances to Lord Caitanyacandra whose face is as splendid as millions of moons and whose smile is as charming as moonlight. He is like a moon that has just risen from the ocean of bliss of pure love for Kṛṣṇa.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, the author, he is meditating on the transcendental qualities of Lord Kṛṣṇa, Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa Caitanya. So he is mentioning this here just to give us a focus that he is seeing the face of Caitanyacandra splendid as millions of moons. Normally, if someone smiles, but in Lord Caitanya’s case it is described as beautiful moonlight. In other words, His smile is very soothing, and very charming. He looks like He has just risen from an ocean of transcendental bliss of pure love for Kṛṣṇa. In other words, Lord Caitanya was giving people love of Kṛṣṇa freely, and the devotees of Kṛṣṇa, they appreciated this – His transcendental qualities.

Śrī Caitanya-candrāmṛtam Maṅgalācaraṇa Verse 10

ucca-nāma-kīrtanera sahita uddaṇḍa-nṛtya-śīla gauraharira vandanā—

uccairāsphālayantaṁ karacaraṇamaho hemadaṇḍa-prakāṇḍau
bāhū proddhṛtya sattāṇḍavataralatanuṁ puṇḍarīkāyatākṣam
viśva-syāmaṅgalaghnaṁ kimapi hari- harītyunmadānandanādai-
rvande taṁ deva-cūḍāmaṇi-matularasāviṣṭa-caitanyacandram

Anuvāda: Aho! Rādhā-bhāve yini kṛṣṇa-viṣayakaparama nigūḍha-rase nimagna, yini nṛtyāveśe kanaka-daṇḍa-sadṛśa prakāṇḍa bāhudvaya ūrddhve tuliyā, kara-yugala o caraṇa-yugala itastataḥ sañcālana karitechena, ati sundara tāṇḍava-nṛtye yāṅhāra varavapu vicañcala haiyāche, ‘hari! hari!’ ei anirvacanīya śabdottha harṣagaravādi-bhāva-samvalita premānandadhvani dvārā yini akhila-jagatera yāvatīya amaṅgala vināśa karitechena, sei padma-palāśa-prasara-nayana avatārakula-cūḍāmaṇi śrī-caitanyacandrake āmi vandanā kari.

Jayapatākā Swami: The original text is in Sanskrit, the second thing he is reading is the Bengali translation. Now he will read the English translation. I don’t know Sanskrit. So, Bhānu Swami and others, they do the translation.

Translation: I offer respects to the lotus eyed Lord Caitanyacandra the crest jewel of all incarnations, who is incomparably immersed with tasting the rasa of loving Lord Kṛṣṇa, who destroyed inauspiciousness in the world by shouting in intoxicated bliss, “Hari! Hari!” While vigorously moving His hands and feet, His body quivering as He danced with golden rod like upraised arms.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, the author is offering his respect to Lord Caitanyacandra. And He is describing some of the wonderful qualities of Lord Caitanya. Normally, different incarnations, They descend to perform some transcendental activities. But usually, Their activities are somewhat limited. Like Narasiṁhadeva, He came and He delivered, He saved Prahlāda Mahārāja. Like Varāhadeva He came and lifted up the earth from its muddy situation in the Garbhodaka ocean. Like that, Lord Rāma came and He gave the monkey army that He fought with Rāvaṇa. But we see Lord Caitanya, He is giving out His mercy, without considering who is qualified, who is not qualified, He wants to give everybody, the mercy.

In 1975 Śrīla Prabhupāda said that he wanted to start to have ten thousand gurus and then gradually increased to ten times than that to hundred thousand gurus, and then a million gurus, and then ten million gurus. In this way, he said we can have enough devotees to go in every village and fulfill Lord Caitanya’s prediction –

pṛthivīte āche yata nagarādi grāma
sarvatra pracāra haibe mora nāma

(Cb. Antya-khaṇḍa 4.126)

So, Lord Caitanya actually, He is performing pastimes which were never seen before. When He was travelling in South India, when He would see people on the road, He would embrace them, and He would be chanting, “Hari Haribol! Haribol!” So, this is an amazing quality of Lord Caitanya, giving out His mercy freely to everyone. And then when He would dance, sometimes He would raise His arms and shouting the holy names, “Hari Hari!” He would dance with His arms in the air. This is a wonderful manifestation of Lord Caitanya.

Śrī Caitanya-candrāmṛtam Maṅgalācaraṇa Verse 11

gaurāṅgera nāma-rūpa-guṇa o līlā; taptakāñcanadyuti, vipralambha-vigraha, nigūḍhaprenada gaurāṅgera praṇāma—

ānanda-līlāmaya-vigrahāya
hemābhadivyacchabi-sundarāya
tasmai mahāprema-rasapradāya
caitanyacandrāya namo namaste

Anuvāda: Sei ānanda-līlā-rasamaya-mūrtti, kanaka-nibha kamanīya divya-kānti, anarpitacara-unnatojjvala-prema-rasa-pradānakārī śrī-caitanyacandrake āmi punaḥ punaḥ praṇāma kari.

Translation: I repeatedly offer my respectful obeisances to Śrī Caitanyacandra whose form is charmingly full of blissful pastimes with complexion like gold and who is the giver of elevated conjugal mellow of love that was not bestowed before.

Jayapatākā Swami: The different sampradāyas have their different favorite pastimes. Like the Śrī Sampradāya, they like the pastime of Kṛṣṇa in Vaikuṇṭha as Nārāyaṇa. And the puṣṭi-mārgīs they like the childhood pastimes of Kṛṣṇa. So, like that Lord Caitanya, He gave the presentation that how Kṛṣṇa, He is the highest love of conjugal affairs. By that conjugal prema He would automatically destroy all the lust in people, devotees and instead, they would be filled with kṛṣṇa-prema, this was never bestowed before, but He gave it out freely.
