Chapter 2 Āsīrvādarūpa Maṅgalācaraṇam

Śrī Caitanya-candrāmṛatam Verse 13

rādhā-kṛṣṇa-milita-tanu gaurasundara—

siṁhaskandhaṁ madhura-madhura-smeragaṇḍasthalāntaṁ
durvijñeyojjvala-rasamayāścaryanānā-vikāram
bibhrat kāntiṁ vikacakanakāmbhojagarbhābhirāmā-
mekībhutaṁ vapuravatu vo rādhayā mādhavasya

Anuvāda: Yāṅhāra grīvādeśa siṁhagrīvāra nyāya unnata, yāṅhāra kapolayugalera prāntabhāga madhurātimadhura mṛduhāsye udbhāsita, yini (sambhoga-rasamaya-vigraha śrī-kṛṣṇera upāsaka bhāgavatagaṇerao) durjñeya vipralambha-rasera ātiśaye kūrmākāra prabhṛti āścaryabhāva-vikāraviśiṣṭa, yāṅhāra śrī-aṅgakānti vikaśita-kanaka-kamalera kiñjalka haiteo ramaṇīya, sei rādhā-mādhava-milita-tanu śrī-gaurasundara tomādigake rakṣā karuna.

Translation: He whose shoulders are raised like a lion, the two margins of whose cheeks are brightened by the sweetness of the sweet smile, He whose shoulders are raised like a lion, the two margins of whose cheeks are brightened by the sweetness of the sweet smile, whose wonderful transformations like the form of tortoise etc. due to relishing the mellow e.g. Specified by the wonderful transformations like the forms of tortoise etc. because of relishing the mellows of conjugal love that are unknown even to worshipers of the Lord who has accepted the effulgence enchanting like the pollen of the blossomed lotus and who is the combined form of Śrī Śrī Rādhā Mādhava, Śrī Śrī Gaurasundara protect you all.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, this verse is glorifying the form and mood of Lord Caitanya. It mentions how His shoulders are raised like those of a lion, and that His cheeks are very beautiful because He is smiling. His smile is very sweet, and He takes different transformations like that of a tortoise because He is fully absorbed in relishing the different pastimes. The Lord also, He takes the form of a tortoise and helped the devas and the demons by having a tug of war and pulling the object on the back of the tortoise. So, He was absorbed in different pastimes of conjugal love which are very confidential and not known even to the devotees of the Lord. So, Lord Caitanya also, He was exhibiting the effulgence which is like the golden lotus of Rādhārāṇī as He was the combined form of Rādhā and Mādhava. The author is praying that Rādhā Mādhava and Gaurasundara may protect everyone.

Śrī Caitanya-candrāmṛtam Verse 14

kṛṣṇānveṣaṇa-ceṣṭā-pracāraka, rādhā-bhāva-vibhāvita-‘kṛṣṇa’—

dṛṣṭvā mādyati nūtanāmbudacayaṁ saṁvīkṣya barhaṁ bhave-
datyantaṁ vikalo vilokya balitāṁ guñjāvalīṁ vepate
dṛṣṭe śyāma-kiśorake'pi cakitaṁ dhate camatkāritā-
mithaṁ gauratanuḥ pracāritanija-premā hariḥ pātu vaḥ

Anuvāda: Yini navīna-nīrada-mālā vilokane kṛṣṇa-uddīpane unmatta hana, yini mayūracandrikā darśane ekānta ākula haiyā uṭhena, balayākṛti guñjāvalī avalokane yāṅhāra śrī-aṅga vikampita haya, yini śyāma-kiśora-puruṣa darśane kṛṣṇabhrame cakita haiyā camatkāriṇī śobhā dhāraṇa karena evaṁ eirūpe yini sarvatra sva-prema pracāra kariyāchena, sei gaurāṅga śrī-hari tomādigake pālana karuna.

Translation: He who becomes mad seeing groups of new clouds with the stimulation of Kṛṣṇa, He becomes greatly agitated upon seeing the peacock feather, whose body shakes upon seeing guñjā berries shaped into a garland, who becomes startled seeing the dark colored adolescent and assumes a wonderful ecstatic form and in this way who preached His own love everywhere, let that Lord Gaurāṅga Hari maintain you all.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, Lord Caitanya, He was actually Kṛṣṇa. But He was in the mood of Rādhārāṇī. So, when He would see many clouds He was reminded of Kṛṣṇa and He almost became mad in ecstasy. If He would see a peacock feather, He would be reminded of Kṛṣṇa and He would become very ecstatic. So, anything that reminded Him of Kṛṣṇa would put Him in ecstasy. He would see the guñjā berries which Kṛṣṇa would wear in Vṛndāvana, He would also become ecstatic. His body would shake in ecstasy. So, He was walking around in Vṛndāvana and when He saw a dark colored adolescent He became ecstatic. In this way, Lord Caitanya was preaching His love everywhere, and we pray that this Lord Caitanya maintain you all. Gaurāṅga! Gaurāṅga! Gaurāṅga! Lord Caitanya, He was personified love of Kṛṣṇa. It is said that when He went to South India, He did something He did not do in Navadvīpa. Everybody He saw on the road, He would embrace them, He would hug them and give them love of Kṛṣṇa and people didn’t know what to think, they were overwhelmed with His ecstasy. So, actually, we cannot describe the ecstasy of Lord Caitanya. He was so wonderful!

Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Ādi-līlā 1.5

rādhā kṛṣṇa-praṇaya-vikṛtir hlādinī śaktir asmād
ekātmānāv api bhuvi purā deha-bhedaṁ gatau tau
caitanyākhyaṁ prakaṭam adhunā tad-dvayaṁ caikyam āptaṁ
rādhā-bhāva-dyuti-suvalitaṁ naumi kṛṣṇa-svarūpam

Translation: The loving affairs of Śrī Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa are transcendental manifestations of the Lord’s internal pleasure-giving potency. Although Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa are one in Their identity, previously They separated Themselves. Now these two transcendental identities have again united, in the form of Śrī Kṛṣṇa Caitanya. I bow down to Him, who has manifested Himself with the sentiment and complexion of Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī although He is Kṛṣṇa Himself.

Jayapatākā Swami: Kṛṣṇa He expanded Himself into Rādhārāṇī and Kṛṣṇa because He wanted to enjoy transcendental pastimes. Actually, in the Kṛṣṇa Book it mentions how Kubjā was very much attracted by lust, but when Kṛṣṇa touched her, she lost all her lust. Kṛṣṇa’s transcendental emotion is free of lust. So, like that, this material world is a perverted reflection of the spiritual world. So, the Lord although He feels any lust, He does not have mundane kind of sex. But His emotions are so great, Lord Caitanya, He was Kṛṣṇa and Rādhā recombined. Therefore, Kṛṣṇa could relish the pastime why and how does Rādhārāṇī love Him so much. So, Lord Caitanya, He was experiencing those. So, Lord Kṛṣṇa, He accepted the form of a devotee, namely, Lord Caitanya, that He could relish this love also.
