Phalaśruti – The Result of Hearing the Enactment of Drama (Part 2)

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 18.226

candraśekhara-bhavane saptāhakālavyāpī apūrva tejaḥ, tāhā kevala sukṛtigaṇera dṛśyavastu—
sapta-dina śrī-ācārya-ratnera mandire
parama adbhuta teja chila nirantare

Jayapatākā Swami: For seven days at Śrī Ācāryaratna’s house a wonderful transcendental effulgence was manifest constantly for seven days.

Murāri Gupta Kaḍaca, 2.17.1: Mahāprabhu danced in saṅkīrtana at the home of Candraśekhara, the jewel among ācāryas, and there He factually exhibited amazing powers.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 18.227

candra, sūrya, vidyut ekatra yena jvale
dekhaye sukṛti-saba mahā-kutūhale

Jayapatākā Swami: It was as if the moon, the sun and lightning, together were all manifesting. When the spiritually advanced persons saw this, they were greatly pleased.

Murāri Gupta Kaḍaca, 2.17.2: For one week, Hari created a coolness like the full moon. His form like lightning was difficult to look upon, but He was pure and enlivening to the heart.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, Lord Gaurahari, He was manifesting special pastimes in His saṅkīrtana-līlā. It was as if He was expanding the coolness of the full moon. At the same time, He was so effulgent that it was difficult to look upon Him. Those who witnessed this manifestation, they felt purity and enlivenment to the heart.

Caitanya Maṅgala Madhya-khaṇḍa 10.4

ānandita śrīcandraśekhara bhaṭṭācārya
tāhāra bāḍīra kathā kahiba āścarya

Jayapatākā Swami: Śrī Candraśekhara Bhaṭṭācārya is very joyful. Please hear the description of his amazing, wonderful house.

Caitanya Maṅgala Madhya-khaṇḍa 10.5

nāciyā āila prabhu-tāhāra chaṭāke
udaya karila yena cānda lākhe lākhe

Jayapatākā Swami: Dancing, Lord Gaurāṅga came and He was manifesting effulgence. It was as if there were hundreds and hundreds of thousands of rising moons, cooling all the people.

Caitanya Maṅgala Madhya-khaṇḍa 10.6

adbhuta śītala śobhā amṛta adhika
cāhite nā pāri yena caudike taḍita

Jayapatākā Swami: His wonderful cooling, beautiful effulgence, was more than nectar. No one could look at it. It was as if lightning filled the four directions.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 18.228

ācārya-bhavane āgata vyaktigaṇera cakṣurunmīlane asāmarthya o tatkāraṇa jijñāsā; vaiṣṇavagaṇera tāhāte hāsya—
yateka āise loka ācāryera ghare
cakṣu melibāre śakti keha nāhi dhare

Jayapatākā Swami: Those people who came to Ācāryaratna’s house, they were unable to open their eyes. The effulgence was so bright that they were unable to open their eyes.

Caitanya Maṅgala Madhya-khaṇḍa 10.7

hṛdaya-āhalāda kare-dekhi’ hena sādha
āṁkhi melibīre nāri-teje kare āṁdha

Jayapatākā Swami: Their hearts became filled with bliss, and they desired to see the Lord. But they could not open their eyes, because the effulgence of the Lord was blinding.

Caitanya Maṅgala Madhya-khaṇḍa 10.8

camaka lāgila se nadiyāpura-jane
kibā aparūpa se dekhila etadine

Jayapatākā Swami: The residents of Navadvīpa were astonished. They had never seen such a wonderful thing, all that time, so far. They had never seen such a wonderful thing, so far.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 18.229

loke bale,—“ki kāraṇe ācāryera ghare
dui cakṣu melite phuṭiyā yena paḍe?”

Jayapatākā Swami: People inquired, “What is the reason, why when we go to Ācāryaratna’s house, our eyes are blinded? We cannot open them, they get burnt.”

Murāri Gupta Kaḍaca 2.17.3: Everyone who came there declared, “How is it that we are unable to open our eyes? Indeed, when we look at the world around us, it appears that there is lightning flashing everywhere.”

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Caitanya was emitting so much effulgence, that people could not open their eyes in Ācāryaratna’s house.

Caitanya Maṅgala Madhya-khaṇḍa 10.9

āsiyā vaiṣṇavajane puche sabajana ki jāna
sandarbha-kathā kahanā kathana

Jayapatākā Swami: All the people came and inquired from the Vaiṣṇavas, “What are we to understand is the meaning of all this? Please tell us.”

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 18.230

śuniyā vaiṣṇava-gaṇa mane mane hāse
keha āra kichu nāhi karaye prakāśe

Jayapatākā Swami: So, hearing this, the Vaiṣṇavas were laughing mentally, jubilant in the heart. But they didn’t manifest any explanation.

Murāri Gupta Kaḍaca, 2.17.4: When they heard these statements, all the fortunate Vaiṣṇavas felt joy, and although they knew the reality of the situation, they said nothing to the materialistic people.

Jayapatākā Swami: They knew that it was because of Lord Caitanya’s emitting effulgence. But, since He was coming as a devotee, they didn’t want to reveal the actual cause. They were enjoying in their heart but did not say anything to the materialistic people.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 10.10

sakala vaiṣṇava bole-āmarā ki jāni
nāciyā āila viśvambhara guṇamaṇi

Jayapatākā Swami: All the Vaiṣṇavas said, “What do we know? Lord Viśvambhara the jewel of good qualities, has come here, dancing in saṅkīrtana.”

Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 10.11

ei mātra jāni, kichu nā jāniye āra
loka-veda-agocara caritra uhāra

Jayapatākā Swami: “This is all we know. We do not know anything else. His pastimes and qualities are beyond the knowledge of the world and the Vedas.”

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 18.231

caitanya-māyā-nigūḍhā—
hena se caitanya-māyā parama gahana
tathāpiha keha kichu nā bujhe kāraṇa

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Caitanya’s illusory energy is thus insurmountable, in spite of that opening their eyes, they could not understand why they cannot see.

Purport (by Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura): The potencies of Śrī Caitanyadeva are most confidential. There is not a tinge of devotional service in the hearts of those who desire to enjoy Gaura (who accept service from Gaurasundara by considering Him the object of their enjoyment, in other words, who consider themselves something like nāgarīs, or enjoyers). Śrī Caitanyadeva did not allow foolish persons to understand this.

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Caitanya was awakening loving, devotional service for Kṛṣṇa. Anyone who did not desire to serve Lord Kṛṣṇa in love, He would keep Himself hidden from them. But He gave mercy to the innocent. Even if people were sinful, but they were not offensive, then He would give them mercy.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 18.232

e-mata acintya-līlā gauracandra kare
navadvīpe saba bhakta sahite vihara

Jayapatākā Swami: So, in this way, Lord Gauracandra performed inconceivable pastimes. He was enjoying these pastimes with the devotees, in Navadvīpa.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 10.12

sāta-dina avicchinna chila tejorāśi
tejera chaṭāya nāhi jāni divāniśi

Jayapatākā Swami: So, without stop, He manifested for seven days His effulgent form. His effulgence, We could not know whether it was day or night.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 10.13

nityai nūtana ati ānandera karmma
prakāśaye śacīsuta karuṇāra dharmma

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Gaurasundara performs amazing pastimes, which are filled with spiritual ecstacies, which are eternal and always new. These are manifest by the son of mother Śacī, who follows the religion of compassion.

Translation: “Śacī’s son who follows the religion of compassion, manifests blissful pastimes that are eternally new and fresh.”

Śrī-Gaurāṅga-Līlā-Smaraṇa-Maṅgala-Stotram 27
—Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura

At Candraśekhara's house He manifested the form of Lakṣmī-devī and fed with His milk the devotees present, who were all plunged in the ocean of pure devotional service. He showed His transcendental opulences to Vijaya dāsa and delivered him. I meditate on Lord Gaurāṅga, the abode of all transcendental potencies and opulences.

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Gaurāṅga was performing so many amazing pastimes, that one could not keep track of all the different pastimes. He was always manifesting something new, fresh, different. And the devotees were overwhelmed with His spiritual qualities and glories.

Thus ends the chapter, Phalaśruti – The Result of Hearing the Enactment of Drama.

By hearing this drama, it states that one can achieve spontaneous love for Kṛṣṇa! Haribol!
