mūkaṁ karoti vācālaṁ paṅguṁ laṅghayate girim
yat-kṛpā tam ahaṁ vande śrī-guruṁ dīna-tāraṇam
paramānandaṁ mādhavaṁ śrī caitanya iśvaram
Hariḥ oṁ tat sat!

Introduction: So, the past week or so, we have been hearing about Lord Caitanya’s drama, and how the actors, the audience, everyone was filled with love of Kṛṣṇa. Now, we will hear the result of having heard that, the phalaśruti – what you get by listening to this drama.

Today, is a complete lockdown in West Bengal, except for going to the hospital or drug store, or working in the field. You are not allowed to go out in West Bengal. Even sabjī and markets are closed today, we heard. But tomorrow there is no strict lockdown. Day after tomorrow there is, they are doing every other day. I guess this is to teach us, that this is a very serious matter, and we have to be very careful. So, I have been self-quarantined, and I will continue to give the classes every night, if Kṛṣṇa allows me.

The Result of Hearing the Enactment of Drama

Caitanya Carita Mahā Kāvya 11.36: Passing the night in this way with various attractive pastimes, in the early morning the Lord returned to His house. Again, for seven days, anointed with sandalwood, the shining Lord danced sweetly in various ways at that (His) house.”

Murāri Gupta Kaḍaca 2.16.23: Thus, He passed the whole night, and at dawn the Lord whose face was lustrous like the moon went to His home, holding a fine staff in His hand. The people saw Nṛhari like a brilliant flame.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, the drama was performed for the whole night, and for six hours, the devotees were enjoying these transcendental pastimes. When the night ended, they were very unhappy. They were feeling so much transcendental ecstasy. And then Lord Caitanya and all the other devotees went to their homes.

Caitanya Maṅgala Madhya-khaṇḍa 9.132

henamate gaurahari,           karuṇā prakāśa
kari, akhila bhuvane ekakartā

Jayapatākā Swami: In this way, Lord Gaurahari, manifested His special mercy, the Lord of all the worlds.

karuṇākāraṇa āsi’            dīnabhāva parakāśi,
āpi kare pṛthivīra cintā

Jayapatākā Swami: In the mood of extreme mercy, He came and then He manifested His humility, and removed all the anxieties and suffering of the earth.

Caitanya Maṅgala Madhya-khaṇḍa 9.133

hena aparūpa kathā,            śuniñā saṁsāra-vyathā,
ghucaye yāhāra antare

Jayapatākā Swami: Anyone who hears this wonderful discourse, or by listening, all the material sufferings in His heart become destroyed.

nā ghuciba konakāle,             ye ithi saṁśaya dhare,
tāre dhik nāhika pāmare

Jayapatākā Swami: Whereas the suffering of the person who doubts these histories will never perish, fie on these sinful people.

Caitanya Maṅgala Madhya-khaṇḍa 9.134

yukti anubhava śāstra,            tine kaha eimātra,
sākṣāte nā dekhi paracāra

Jayapatākā Swami: If someone says he only accepts the logic scripture and direct perception, and not having directly seen any of these pastimes.

vicāra nā kare ihā,            nā chila se hailasiyā,
kemane tāra haiba nistāra

Jayapatākā Swami: And not willing to accept them on the basis of logic, and not read of them in any scripture, how will that person be delivered? If the person does not accept these pastimes as true, how would he be delivered?

Caitanya Maṅgala Madhya-khaṇḍa 9.135

gaurā-avatāra hena,            karuṇā prakāśa yena,
nāhi haya nā haiba āra

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Gaurāṅga, He descended from the spiritual world, to give His mercy, to manifest His mercy. There was no incarnation like Him, and there will be no incarnation like Him anymore.

ye bandhu se balu loke,            anubhava kahi tāke,
mane mane karuka vicāra

Jayapatākā Swami: Let the friends and well-wishers, tell the people of what I have experienced. Let them consider it, with their mind and heart.

Caitanya Maṅgala Madhya-khaṇḍa 9.136

eimātra mora cintā,            antare antara-vyathā,
hena avatāra yāya pāche

Jayapatākā Swami: In this way, I worry within my heart, gives me internal distress, that such a merciful incarnation will be forgotten.

tā lāgi’ kāndaye hiyā,            kāhāre kahiba ihā,
guṇa gāya e locana dāse

Jayapatākā Swami: For this reason, my heart weeps, to whom will I tell this? For this reason, Locana dāsa sings the glories of Lord Gaura.

Caitanya Maṅgala Madhya-khaṇḍa 10.1

mora prāṇa āre
gaurācānda nāre haya dhru

Jayapatākā Swami: O! O! O! Lord Gauracandra is my very life, and no one else!

kahiba apūrva kathā loka-agocara
kabhu nāhi dekhi śuni jagata-bhitara

Jayapatākā Swami: I would tell a wonderful story, which is of a pastime, which is unheard of, by the people of this world. No one has ever seen or heard, of such a pastime within this universe.

Caitanya Carita Mahā Kāvya 11.37: The mṛdaṅgas and other instruments sounded loudly in all directions and all the devotees sang various songs like madmen, drenched in rasa. As the Lord performed pastimes for seven days, the universe became full of the scent of flower garlands and sandalwood.

Jayapatākā Swami: When the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Lord Gaurāṅga, descended from Goloka Vṛndāvana, and engaged in His saṅkīrtana-līlāor pastime, the whole world became fragrantly scented, with flower garland and sandalwood. The whole world became auspicious by His chanting of the holy names.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 18.216

gopikā-nṛtya-kathā-śravaṇera phale kṛṣṇabhakti labhyā—
adbhuta gopikā-nṛtya cāri-veda-dhana
kṛṣṇa-bhakti haya ihā karile śravaṇa

Jayapatākā Swami: By hearing the wonderful acting and dancing of Lord Gaurāṅga as a gopī, which is the treasure of the four Vedas, one achieves devotional service to Lord Kṛṣṇa, the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 18.217

hailā baḍāi buḍī prabhu nityānanda
se līlāya hena lakṣmī kāce gauracandra

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Nityānanda played the role of an elderly lady. In this pastime, Lord Gauracandra played the form of the goddess Lakṣmī-devī.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 18.218

nityānandera sarvatra gaurasundarānugatya pradarśana—
yakhana ye-rūpe gauracandra ye vihare
sei anurūpa rūpa nityānanda dhare

Jayapatākā Swami: Whenever Lord Gauracandra enjoys pastimes in a particular form, Lord Nityānanda assumes a form appropriate for those pastimes.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 18.219

gaura-nityānandera līlā anarthayuktera bodhagamya nahe, tāhā kṛṣṇakṛpāsāpekṣā—

prabhu hailena gopī, nityānanda baḍāi
ke bujhibe ihā, yā'ra anubhava nāi

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Gaurāṅga became a gopī. Lord Nityānanda became an elderly lady, who can understand this, other than someone who saw it?

Caitanya Maṅgala Madhya-khaṇḍa 10.2

tileka sandeha keho kara jāni’ cite
prakāśa karila prabhu saba-loka-hite

Jayapatākā Swami: Knowing that the people may have some doubts in their hearts, the Lord Gaurāṅga manifested His glories to benefit everybody.

Caitanya Maṅgala Madhya-khaṇḍa 10.3

candraśekharera bāḍī nāciyā gāhiyā
gharete āilā prabhu ānandita haiyā

Jayapatākā Swami: Singing and dancing, Lord Gaurāṅga joyfully went to the house of Candrasekhara.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 18.220

kṛṣṇa-anugraha yāre, se e marma jāne
alpa-bhāgye nityānanda-svarūpa nā cine

Jayapatākā Swami: Only one who is favored by Lord Kṛṣṇa can understand this truth. Those who are less fortunate, cannot recognize the actual form of Lord Nityānanda.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 18.221

granthakāra-kartṛka nityānandera svarūpa o alaukika līlā-bodhe asamartha nityānanda-nindākārīra mastake padāghāta—

kibā yogī nityānanda, kibā bhakta jñānī
yāra yena mata icchā nā bolaye kenī

Jayapatākā Swami: Someone may consider Lord Nityānanda a yogī, some may consider Him a devotee, and someone may consider Him as a jñani, they may say whatever they like.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 18.222

ye se kene caitanyera nityānanda nahe
tathāpi se pāda-padma rahuka hṛdaye

Jayapatākā Swami: Whatever Lord Nityānanda is in relation with Lord Caitanya, in spite of this, in any case, I will keep Lord Nityānanda’s lotus feet in my heart.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 18.223

eta parihāre o ye pāpī nindā kare
tabe lāthi māroṅ tāra śirera upare

Jayapatākā Swami: In spite of all these explanations, if some sinful person criticizes Lord Nityānanda, then I will kick the head of that sinful person.

Purport (by Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura): Those who are sinful-minded because of their previous misdeeds cannot understand the truth about Śrī Nityānanda-Baladeva or His transcendental activities, and thus they blaspheme Him. Topics of the author's kicking them on their heads have been mentioned to reveal that the conceptions of such abominable sinful persons are extremely disgusting and contemptible. By receiving such chastisement from a Vaiṣṇava, the good fortune of those who are averse to the service of Hari is awakened, but ordinary foolish people cannot understand this.

Jayapatākā Swami: The criticism of Śrīla Vṛndāvana dāsa Ṭhākura, of anyone who criticizes Lord Nityānanda, is for the benefit of such people.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 18.224

adhyāyera kathāsāra—
madhya-khaṇḍa-kathā yena amṛta-śravaṇa
yahiṅ lakṣmī-veśe nṛtya kailā nārāyaṇa

Jayapatākā Swami: The topics of the Madhya-khaṇḍa of the Caitanya-bhāgavataare like listening to nectar. Here, the incarnation of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Nārāyaṇa danced in the form of Lakṣmī-devī, are narrated.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 18.225

nācila jananī-bhāve bhakti śikhāi
yāsabāra pūrila āśā stana piyāiyā

Jayapatākā Swami: He danced in the mood of a mother to teach them devotional service. Then He fulfilled everyone’s desire, by feeding them breast milk.

Purport (by Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura): By displaying the activities of His spiritual and material energies, the Lord taught devotional service, which is the eternal propensity dormant in conditioned souls. He taught self-realized souls the principles of distributing foodstuffs required in this material world and offering service to the Supreme Lord rather than taking service from Him.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, by the Supreme Lord taking the role of His various energies, He showed the importance of devotional service. And how people by not engaging in devotional service, were missing the real purpose of life, and how all the different energies of the Lord are engaged in the Lord’s service. So, in this way, the Lord was giving out love of Kṛṣṇa. And all the people, the actors, audience, they became totally wild in loving ecstasy. They awakened their pure love for Lord Kṛṣṇa. I will end here and we will continue tomorrow. Gaurāṅga!
