Lord Viśvambhara Takes the Role of Ādyāśakti

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 18.131

anyera ki dāya, āi nā pāre cinite
āi bale,—“lakṣmī kibā āilā nācite?”

Jayapatākā Swami: What to speak of others, even Mother Śacī could not recognize her son. Mother Śacī said that, how is it that Lakṣmī had come here to act and to dance? Actually, it was Lord Gaurāṅga who took the form of Lakṣmī-devī or took the form of a gopī. So, it is said, He had a waist like a fist, He was looking like a beautiful gopī. Even His mother could not recognize Him. She thought that the goddess of fortune herself had come. Lord Caitanya and the actors took the actual form of the people, they were acting as.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 18.132

acintya avyakta kibā mahāyogeśvarī
bhaktira svarūpā hailā āpani śrī-hari

Jayapatākā Swami: The Lord Śrī Hari, He personally came, and He personally manifested the form of the inconceivable transcendental goddess of all mystic perfections, and the form of pure devotional service personified.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 18.133

hara-mohanakārī prabhu darśane sakalera mohaśūnyatā o hṛdaye jananī-bhāva—

mahāmaheśvara hara ye rūpa dekhiyā
mahāmoha pāilena pārvatī laiyā

Jayapatākā Swami: On seeing this transcendental form, even the great Lord Śiva, Mahā-Maheśvara, along with the great illusory energy, Pārvatī, became greatly illusioned.

Purport by Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura: “One should discuss Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. (8.12.12-25).”

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 18.134

tabe ye nahila moha vaiṣṇava-sabāra
pūrva anugraha āche, ei hetu tāra

Jayapatākā Swami: The assembled Vaiṣṇavas were not bewildered, because of the previous benediction they had received. Because Lord Caitanya first replied to the question of Śrīvāsa, who was allowed to be the audience? And He said, those who have controlled their senses. But then Advaita Gosāñi said, that well then, I can’t come. Everybody was taking the humble position, and then Lord Caitanya said alright, you can all come, I give you the benediction, that you will be like great mystic yogis, and you will not be bewildered.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 18.135

kṛpā-jala-nidhi prabhu hailā sabāre
sabāra jananī-bhāva haila antare

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Gaurāṅga, He became like an ocean of mercy to everyone, and all the assembled devotees felt inside, that He was like their mother.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 18.136

paraloka haite yena āilā jananī
ānande krandana kare āpanā nā jāni'

Jayapatākā Swami: Feeling as if their mother had descended from the spiritual world, in great loving ecstasy, they all cried and forgot themselves.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 18.137

ei mata advaitādi prabhure dekhiyā
kṛṣṇa-prema-sindhu-mājhe bulena bhāsiyā

Jayapatākā Swami: When Lord Advaita, and the other devotees saw Lord Gaurāṅga in this way, they floated in an ocean of ecstatic love for Kṛṣṇa.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 18.138

viśvambharera jagajananī-bhāve nṛtya—

jagata-jananī bhāve nāce viśvambhara
samaya-ucita gīta gāya anucara

Jayapatākā Swami: As Lord Viśvambhara danced in the mood of the mother of the universe, appropriate songs for the situation, were sung by His followers.

Caitanya Carita Mahā Kāvya 11.25

vilola-bhrūbhaṅgī naṭana-jita-bhṛṅgī-vilasitā

vahantī sattāmra-sphurad-adhara-vīthī viluṭhitāṁ
radac-chāyāṁ jyotsnām iva nava-dineśāṁśu-militām

Translation: Gaurāṅga’s brow moved. He danced with the skill of a bee and had a smiling glance, with fickle eyes like blossoming blue lotuses. His lips were copper colored like the sun, revealing teeth white like moonlight.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, Lord Caitanya was acting and dancing in the most beautiful form. So, He attracted the minds of all His devotees.

Caitanya Carita Mahā Kāvya 11.26

girer uccaiḥ pātāhita-bhaya-nivṛttena kha-dhunī-
pravāheṇevāti śriyam amala-hāreṇa dadhatī

Translation: He emanated beauty with a spotless necklace placed on his white, conch-like neck and riding on full chest which swayed profoundly. The necklace had the beauty of the Gaṅgā flowing from heaven, freed from fear of falling from a high peak.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, in this presentation, beautiful Sanskrit poetry is used.

Caitanya Carita Mahā Kāvya 11.27

vahanty ūru-dvandvaṁ kanaka-kadalī-kāṇḍa-masṛṇaṁ
pade raktāmbhoja-prathama-sad-avasthā-praṇayinī
tanu-kṣumaṁ vāsaḥ parihitavatī tatra lalitaṁ
prabhoḥ śrīman-mūrtir laghu-padam athaiṣā niviviveśa
(kulakam)

Translation: His thighs were soft like golden banana trunks. His feet were like fresh red lotuses. Wearing fine, attractive cloth, the beautiful form of the Lord entered the stage with light steps

Jayapatākā Swami: His thighs were soft like golden banana trunks. His feet were like fresh red lotuses. Wearing fine, attractive cloth, the beautiful form of the Lord entered the stage with light steps.

Caitanya Carita Mahā Kāvya 11.28

tadā pīyūṣāṁśukaḥ pariṇata ivaikādaśa-kalo

tathā tat tat kṣaumāṣcala-lalita-khelāṁ viracayan
vavau mandaṁ tat tat parimala-sakhaś candana-marut

Translation: The moon of nectar rays, full of bliss, maturing with eleven digits, was reflected in the form of Mahāprabhu. The Malaya Mountain with fragrant branches blew softly, playing with the hem of his silk cloth.

Jayapatākā Swami: Malaya is famous for having sandalwood. So, when it says that the Malaya mountain with fragrant branches, blowing softly. Means that the aroma of sandalwood was emanating from the stage.

Caitanya Carita Mahā Kāvya 11.29

tatas tair gāyadbhir laghu laghu mṛdaṅga-dhvani-paraṁ
sahāvaṁ nṛtyantī laya-valita-tālādi-lalitam
tathā bhajyan madhyā madhurima-parīpāka-vilasat-
pada-nyāsaiḥ śiṣjan-maṇi-maya-tulākoṭi-madhurā

Translation: That form, sweetly jingling his ankle bells, danced with gestures in the center with the singers, while mṛdaṅgas beat swiftly, with skillful laya and tāla, using graceful, intensely sweet steps.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, the drama was accompanied by musicians, singers and mṛdaṅga players. The mṛdaṅga on one side is small and on the other side is big. The tāla means the beat, and laya is the other sound of the mṛdaṅga, boom boom!

Caitanya Carita Mahā Kāvya 11.30

tathā vaktrāmbhojaṁ laghu-samudayat-sveda-kaṇikā-

vahantī sindūraṁ vilasad-alike rujyad-alake
tamaḥ-spṛṣṭaṁ sandhyāruṇitam iva ramyārka-kiraṇam

Translation: Shining drops of perspiration swiftly oozed from his lotus face. It appeared he was carrying a golden moon embedded with pearls. He had sindūra on his shining forehead framed by curling locks. This was like the red attractive rays of the sun in the twilight surrounded by darkness. by curling locks.

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Caitanya was acting in the form of the goddess of fortune. So, His beauty, He appeared just as a spiritual śakti. And even His mother could not recognize. She felt that the goddess of fortune and come Herself. Such was the amazing dance or drama of Lord Caitanya.

Caitanya Carita Mahā Kāvya 11.31

tathā pāṇi-nyāsaiḥ kalita-valaya-dhvāna-mukharair

muhuḥ kṣiptvā śyāmaṁ kim api vidadhaty ambara-talam

Translation: As He moved His hands, jingling with bracelets, swarms of bees hovered above. Moving His elevated brows, like cupid’s bent now, He appeared to make the sky black.

Caitanya Carita Mahā Kāvya 11.32

Translation: His dancing became attractive as the loose edge of His cloth struck His body and bent His body and moved like waves, close to the spectators. He revealed His remarkable, thick shanks, damp with the perspiration from His waist, sparkling like bright lights as His belt came loose.

Caitanya Carita Mahā Kāvya 11.33

muhuś cakra-prāya-bhramaṇa-vigalat-keśa-kusumais

sita-cchatraṁ citraṁ marakata-surekhā-vilasitam

Translation: As He whirled around like a spinning wheel, with desirous bees hovering above, the flowers few from His hair in all directions. In the joy of dancing, it seemed that there was a white umbrella (of flowers) marked with dark lines (bees) above His moonlike face.”

Jayapatākā Swami: Bees are attracted to living flowers. So, the flowers coming from Lord Caitanya, in His form as a gopī or the goddess of fortune, were so natural, that they attracted bees. This is not an ordinary thing. It shows how the dancing of Lord Caitanya is very special.

Caitanya Carita Mahā Kāvya 11.34

tathā nṛtyonmāda-pramada-madhurimnātimahatā
natāṅgī saṅgītojjvala-rucira-rociḥ-paṭalikā
tato lakṣmī-bhāvaṁ tad-anugirijā-bhāvam api sā
krmād āviṣkṛtya prakaṭam aviśad deva-bhavanam

Translation: The dancer’s body was glorious with the joyful sweetness of insane dancing, shining brightly with the beauty of song. Clearly assuming the mood of Lakṣmī and Pārvatī, he then entered the temple.

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Caitanya assuming the mood of Lakṣmī and Pārvatī, divine spiritual energies, He entered the temple which was on the stage.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 9.117

sakala vaiṣṇava-mājhe, nāce mahānaṭarāje,
rasera āveśe bhāva dhare
emana karite puna, lakṣmī paḍila mana,
se āveśe gela deva ghare

Jayapatākā Swami: In the midst of all the Vaiṣṇava spectators, danced the great King of Dancing, Lord Gaurāṅga! Being absorbed in the spiritual mellow, assuming the form and mentality of Lakṣmī. Being absorbed in that mood, that ecstasy, He entered the Deity room.

Translation: Tasting the nectar of the rasas, Lord Gaura, the king of dancers, danced in the midst of the Vaiṣṇavas. Then Lord Gaura thought of Goddess Lakṣmī. Filled with ecstasy, He entered the Deity room of the temple.”

Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 9.118

ghare sāmbhāila ārtye, divya caturbhuja-mūrtye,
dekhi’ dāṇḍāila tāra kāche
ādha-nayāne cāya, ādha-pada cali yāya,
vasane ḍhākila āṁkhi pāche

Jayapatākā Swami: Inside the deity room, Lord Gaurāṅga, in His form as Lakṣmī, manifested the four-armed form of goddess Lakṣmī in the Vaikuṇṭha-loka. Seeing this, all the devotees stood up. With His eyes half-open, walking in half-steps a veil covered His eyes.

So, at the end of this scene, Lord Gaurāṅga manifested the four-armed goddess of fortune, Lakṣmī form. These were like, amazing manifestations. Normally, an actor can’t manifest two additional arms. But Lord Viśvambhara, He did this naturally. Now this is an amazing drama, and all the devotees who were present were completely overwhelmed in ecstasy of love of Kṛṣṇa.

Thus, ends the chapter, Lord Viśvambhara Takes the Role of Ādyāśakti.

What is the program tonight? Bengaluru? They are under complete lockdown. Two Zoom sessions, tonight and Saturday night.

Question: Dear most Guru Mahārāja! Please accept my respectful obeisances. All glories to Śrīla Prabhupāda. Thank you Guru Mahārāja, as we hear these pastimes from you, opening up new revelations every day, we feel very blissful, especially today, when we see Gaurāṅga manifesting the form of Mother Goddess, even we became fearless of māyā. Is it not dangerous to lose fear of māyā? And is it not a non-humble attitude to be fearless? Will this please Gaurāṅga Mahāprabhu?

Your servant,
Śānta Gopī devī dāsī.

Jayapatākā Swami: When we see Lord Caitanya, hear of His manifesting, His form as His spiritual potency, it is natural to feel inspired. Maybe while hearing that pastime, one may feel fearless. But after all, we should be very careful that, after hearing this pastime, we don’t fall into māyā. So, if you can always stay absorbed in Lord Caitanya’s pastimes, then you can be fearless. The problem is that, we are not absorbed in Lord Caitanya’s pastimes, then māyā may attack.

Question: Daṇḍavat praṇāma Gurudeva! We know Kṛṣṇa as an expert dancer on the hoods of Kāliya. Also, Lord Caitanya expert dancing in Bindu-Mādhava temple or in front of Lord Jagannātha cart. Is there a difference in the dancing of Lord Kṛṣṇa and Lord Caitanya?

Your servant,
Raṅga Kṛṣṇa dāsa, Chennai.

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Caitanya is a combined form of Kṛṣṇa and Rādhā. So, He can dance as nice as Kṛṣṇa, He can also dance as nice as Rādhā, so He has this unique ability.

Question: Hare Kṛṣṇa dear Gurudeva! Please accept my respectful obeisances at your lotus feet. What is the relationship between mother Lakṣmī and goddess Pārvatī in the spiritual dimension?

Your servant,
Ratīprada Rādhikā devī dāsī, Noida.

Jayapatākā Swami: Śrīla Prabhupāda explained that with Kṛṣṇa everything is equal. That just like the government, has the police department and social welfare department, for the criminals, police department is very fearful. But they don’t mind the social welfare department. But for the government, both departments are departments. So Lakṣmī is the spiritual energy, and Pārvatī is the material energy. So for Kṛṣṇa, it is the same thing, and they are all different departments. But He doesn’t relate directly with Pārvatī, He does that in His form as Lord Śiva. But He relates with Lakṣmī, in His form as Nārāyaṇa.

Last question.

Question: Hare Kṛṣṇa Mahārāja! Please accept my respectful obeisances unto your lotus feet. Is that after our death we have to be alone and there will be no one with us? Is it our guru also has the responsibility till we are alive in this body and post, he also leaves us? Please clear this doubt.

Your insignificant servant,
Leena tekchandani.

Jayapatākā Swami: Guru is responsible for us, not for our body. After we, the soul, leaves the body, we are still related with the guru. And he helps us to reach the spiritual world. He may introduce us to our guide in the spiritual world. Say that, if we are a friend of Kṛṣṇa, one of the friends of Kṛṣṇa will guide. If we are a parent of Kṛṣṇa, one of the parents of Kṛṣṇa will guide us, if we are a lover or wife of Kṛṣṇa, one of the gopīs or the rāṇīs will guide us. Guru is always there to help, when we need him.

Thank you, Leena Tekchandani.
