21 Jul 2020|Duration: 00:29:27|English|Śrī Kṛṣṇa Caitanya Book|Transcription|Śrī Māyāpur, India

The following is the reading from the new Śrī Kṛṣṇa Caitanya Book by His Holiness Jayapatākā Swami Mahārāja on 21st July 2020 in Śrīdhāma Māyāpur, India.

mūkaṁ karoti vācālaṁ paṅguṁ laṅghayate girim
yat-kṛpā tam ahaṁ vande śrī-guruṁ dīna-tāraṇam
paramānandaṁ mādhavaṁ śrī caitanya iśvaram
Hariḥ oṁ tat sat!

Introduction: This is for the information of the devotees; the West Bengal Government has declared Svarūpagāñj as a containment zone of the corona virus. This is in addition to Navadvīpa and Krishnanagar. So many people may be having maids from Svarūpa-gāñj, so they should be very careful. I think no one from Svarūpa-gāñj should be allowed in. So, all around us the corona virus is raging, and we have to be careful.

I just got information that my dear disciple, Veṇudhārī Kanāi dāsa from Aruppukoṭṭai, in Tamil Nadu has tested positive. So, it is a real danger, please protect others, wear masks, and chant Hare Kṛṣṇa and be happy. Hare Kṛṣṇa!

Gaurasundara Proves the Statement of Bhagavad-gītā by Breast-feeding

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 18.187

pativratāgaṇera premakrandana—
gṛha-mājhe kānde saba pati-vratā-gaṇa
ānanda haila candraśekhara-bhavana

Jayapatākā Swami: Within the house of Candraśekhara, all the chaste, married ladies were crying. The house of Candraśekhara was filled with loving ecstasy.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 18.188

premānande rātri gata haile nṛtyāvasāna-hetu sakalera duḥkha—
ānande sakala loka bāhya nāhi jāne
henai samaye niśi haila avasāne

Jayapatākā Swami: So, forgetting their external existence, all the people were filled in loving ecstasy. At this time the night came to an end. This was an all-night drama, went on for six hours plus. So, when the morning came, it meant the drama was finished.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 18.189

ānande nā jāne loka niśi bhela śeṣa
dāruṇa aruṇa āsi' bhela paraveśa

Jayapatākā Swami: Being absorbed in loving ecstasy, the devotees did not notice that the night had ended, and that the sun had risen, and that the bright daylight was entering into the bright day.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 18.190

pohāila niśi, haila nṛtya-avasāna
bājila sabāra buke yena mahābāṇa

Jayapatākā Swami: So, the night had ended, and therefore the drama had stopped. That pierced the hearts of everyone, like a sharp arrow.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 18.191

camakita hai’ sabe cāri-dike cāya
‘pohāila niśi’ kari’ kāṅde ubharāya

Jayapatākā Swami: Struck with wonder, they all looked around and loudly exclaimed, the night has come to an end, and they loudly cried.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 18.192

koṭi-putra-śoke o eteka duḥkha nahe
ye duḥkha janmila saba vaiṣṇava-hṛdaye

Jayapatākā Swami: The sadness the Vaiṣṇavas felt in their hearts, was more than the distress of losing ten million children.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 18.193

vaiṣṇavagṛhiṇīgaṇa-nārāyaṇī-śaktira kāyavyūha—
ye duḥkhe vaiṣṇava-saba aruṇere cāhe
prabhura kṛpāra lāgi' bhasma nāhi haye

Jayapatākā Swami: The sadness that all the Vaiṣṇavas felt on looking at the sunrise, if it was not for the mercy of the Lord, the sun would have been burnt to ashes!

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 18.194

e raṅga rahiba hena viṣāda bhāviyā
ataeva gauracandra karilena ihā

Jayapatākā Swami: By their feeling lamentation their spiritual happiness would remain. Therefore, Lord Gauracandra had desired this.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 18.195

pativratāgaṇera krandana o śacīdevīra pada-dhāraṇa—
kānde saba-bhakta-gaṇa viṣāda bhāviyā

pati-vratā-gaṇa kānde bhūmite paḍiyā

Jayapatākā Swami: All the devotees cried, feeling lamentation. And the chaste, married ladies cried as they fell to the ground. You know when a drama ends, and you leave the theater, maybe you feel some emotions. But this emotion that they were enjoying, such spiritual bliss, such loving ecstasy, when the drama ended, they were all devastated. Rolling on the ground, crying I don’t think anyone has witnessed such a drama, all the actors in the drama, all the audience started crying and rolling on the ground, and when the drama was over, they said, “Oh no!” Definitely this was not an ordinary drama, this was an ecstatic expansion of Lord Caitanya’s mercy on everyone.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 18.196

yata nārāyaṇī-śakti-jagata-jananī
sei saba haiyāche vaiṣṇava-gṛhiṇī

Jayapatākā Swami: All the spiritual energies of Nārāyaṇī, the mother of the universe, have appeared as the wives of the Vaiṣṇavas.

Purport (by Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura): The women of this world are bodily expansions of Nārāyaṇī's energies Unlike the nondevotees, the Vaiṣṇavas are not influenced by the spirit of enjoyment to consider the energies of Nārāyaṇī, the mother of the universe, as “the Supreme.”

Jayapatākā Swami: The Vaiṣṇavas see the Supreme Personality of Godhead, as the Supreme. And His energies are His expansions, for serving Him.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 18.197

anyonye kānde saba pati-vratā-gaṇa
sabei dharena śacīdevīra caraṇa

Jayapatākā Swami: All the chaste, married ladies cried in ecstasy and all of them grabbed the lotus feet of mother Śacī.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 18.198

sakalera premakrandane candraśekhara-havanera premamayatva—
caudike uṭhila viṣṇu-bhaktira krandana
prema-maya haila candraśekhara-bhavana

Jayapatākā Swami: The sound of crying in devotion for Lord Viṣṇu, arose in all directions. The house of Candraśekhara became filled with ecstatic love.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 18.199

rātri ativāhita haoyāya gaura-nṛtyāvasāne vaiṣṇavagaṇera rodana evaṁ gaurasundarera jagajjananī-bhāve stanya-pradāna dvārā gītāra pāṭhera satyatā sthāpana—
sahajei vaiṣṇavera rodana ucita
janma janma jāne yārā kṛṣṇera carita

Jayapatākā Swami: Easily and naturally the Vaiṣṇavas, cry for Lord Kṛṣṇa. Because they know birth after birth, the divine characteristics of Lord Kṛṣṇa.

Purport (by Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura): There are two types of crying—shedding tears of joy out of emotion and shedding tears while crying out in affliction from the distress of deficiency. When Vaiṣṇavas see distress within this world, both types of emotions naturally appear in them.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, the devotees were crying in transcendental ecstasy and joy, at seeing the pastimes of Lord Kṛṣṇa. But when the drama ended, they felt separation, and they were crying in distress. All this crying is much different from the lamentation and joy that we experience in this material world. Therefore, this spiritual loving lamentation is something transcendental. It is another form of divine ecstasy.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 18.200

keha bale,—“āre rātri kene pohāile?
hena rase kena kṛṣṇa vañcita karile?”

Jayapatākā Swami: Someone said, “O night, why have you come to an end?” “O Lord Kṛṣṇa, why have You deprived us of such great happiness of spiritual mellows?”

Murāri Gupta Kaḍaca, 2.16.19: Then a most amazing thing occurred. Haridāsa became like a little boy of five years, and someone addressed Caitanya Murāri, “O goddess, kindly cast Your glance of mercy upon this lowly fellow.”

Caitanya Carita Mahā Kāvya 11.35: The devotees, offering respects to that form sitting with beautiful limbs on an excellent throne, sang praises with word ornaments. “Please distribute prema everywhere, O goddess!” That form took Haridāsa on His lap like child.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 9.124

e bola śuniñā tabe,                  paraṇāma kare sabhe,
daṇḍavat bhūmite paḍiyā

Jayapatākā Swami: When everyone heard these words, they offered their obeisances, falling like sticks on the ground.

tabe sei īśvarī,                  haridāsa kare dhari,
kole basāila se hāsiyā

Jayapatākā Swami: Then the goddess Durgā smiled, and took Haridāsa Ṭhākura by the hand, and placed him on her lap.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 9.125

basiyā tāhāra kole,                  haridāsa ghana dole,
pāṁca-bariṣera yena śiśu

Jayapatākā Swami: Seeing Haridāsa Ṭhākura on her lap, the goddess rocked Haridāsa to and fro, as if he were a five-year-old child.

āścarya dekhiyā mane,                  ānandita savajane,
hariṣa pāila pakṣa paśu

Jayapatākā Swami: Their mind being struck with wonder; all the people were filled with transcendental bliss. Even the birds and beasts became joyful.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 18.201

caudike dekhiyā saba vaiṣṇava-rodana
anugraha karilena śrī-śacīnandana

Jayapatākā Swami: On seeing all the Vaiṣṇavas, in all the directions crying, Śrī Śacīnandana became compassionate on them.

Murāri Gupta Kaḍaca, 2.16.20: The moment He heard this, the Lord who was attired in the attractive dress of the goddess of fortune, His heart softened with compassion, considered all the devotional service which His dear devotee had performed, and tears of love fell from His lotus eyes.

Jayapatākā Swami: So here it describes the form as Lakṣmī, the goddess of fortune. In some places they translate Iśvarī as Durgā, but some places they translate as the goddess of fortune. They said Nārāyaṇī, which is also the consort of Lord Nārāyaṇa. I think that more appropriately it is the goddess of fortune. So how Lord Caitanya in this drama, He was distributing love of Kṛṣṇa to everyone, and this drama was a special manifestation of His loving mercy. So now the drama has come to an end, but His mercy has no end. Śrīla Prabhupāda said that we cannot calculate the mercy of Lord Caitanya, His mercy is unlimited. Just as the Supreme Personality of Godhead is unlimited, so when He wants to be merciful, He is unlimitedly merciful. So being a devotee of Lord Caitanya is a special mercy. Every form of the Lord has a particular mood, like Narasiṁhadeva is angry, Lord Kṛṣṇa is very sweet, but Lord Caitanya is most merciful. And in this Kali-yuga, we need the Lord’s mercy. Haribol!

We will continue tomorrow. Any questions?

Question: Hare Kṛṣṇa Please accept my respectful obeisances unto your lotus feet, Guru Mahārāja, Due to lockdown here in Mathurādeśa, Balarāma Jayantī and Janmāṣṭamī celebrations will be possible online only, like other places.

What are your suggestions, or are there any specific instructions to make it the most glorious, online, outreach program and can attract more and more new devotees?

—Your spiritual son, Saṅkarṣaṇa Caitanya dāsa, Mathurādeśa.

Jayapatākā Swami: It is not a simple question. I should think about it, and I will give the suggestions in the following classes. This also was decided in the South Indian Divisional Council (SIDC), that the suggestion was that we should observe the Janmāṣṭamī virtually. But they rightly pointed out that the Jhulan-yātrā, Balarāma appearance day, Janmāṣṭamī, Śrīla Prabhupāda appearance day – Vyāsa-pūjā, all these things fall one after another.

In Māyāpur, usually between Balarāma Pūrṇimā and Janmāṣṭamī, we observe 7 days of Śrīla Prabhupāda appearance. And each day, a different āśrama like the gṛhasthas one day, the brahmacārīs another day, schools one day, so that should be planned out. So, you should also have your virtual meeting and discuss how to observe all these festivals.
