The following is a lecture given by His Holiness Jayapatākā Swami Mahārāja on March 3, 1992 – in Śrī Māyāpur, India. The lecture begins with a reading from Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Ādi-līlā 17.5-17.
Places around India. When he got to Vrindavan and he was there, just like Balaram and all of the associates of Brindav and all the deers and the cows, they would come and they were licking the feet of Nithyananda. They had spontaneous attraction for Lord Nithyananda. At that time, Lord Nithyananda had the vision that Lord Chaitanya had just started his Sankirtan movement. So he decided to go to Navardville. And he came and he took his shelter in the house of Nandana Crya. That was the first place that devotees went to on the Nava di Parikramā. There in that house he was present. And Lord Caitanya told all of his associates to look for Lord Nithyananda. My eternal counterpart is here. You can find him. And he sent the devotees out and they went through the whole city looking for him.
But even up till late at night, no one was finding him. They’re going finally at such a late hour, like, you know, 8 o’ clock at night and not 9 o’. Clock. They’re knocking on people’s doors. People coming out. What do you want now? It’s already late. What are you doing up? Oh, we are looking for Nithyananda. Get out of here. What’s wrong with you? Follow us, O Lord Chaitanya. Don’t bother us. They came back to Goranga and they reported that they couldn’t find him. And he asked everyone, did you find? No one could find him. And Lord Caitanya said, of course you can’t find him. You cannot find God when you look for him. He must reveal himself. No one knew exactly what he was talking about. But anyway, Lord, she said, well, I can find it. Tomorrow we will go out.
The Lord Chaitanya took the whole Sankirtan party. And then he entered into the courtyard of Nandana Acharya. And there, as the kīrtana was coming, Nithyananda stood up. And when Lord Chaitani entered and he was so happy, so ecstatic to see Lord Gaurāṅga. And immediately, of course, this wasn’t the first time they’re meeting. But immediately, their eternal associates. Soon as Lord Chaitanya came, Lord Nithyananda.
Spread his hand and go Ranga. Go Ranga.
And then Lord Goranga said. And they ran to each other and they embraced each other. And all the devotees were yandhi taika.
Udvanandi Hari, harivo Hareevo hareem.
The devas were showing flowers down upon them. They were crying profusely. And they went out in masses on Kīrtana throughout the whole Navadvip. And people were amazed. Who is this other one so tall, so beautiful, who is that with Lord Gauravaranya? So from that time on Lord Chaitanya and Gaurāṅga they were together almost constant companions in Navadvi. And so many different pastimes. Were being performed. So. There was the Vyas Pūjā connected with Lord Nithyananda. Then Nithyananda was able to see the various forms of Lord Chaitanya. This is mentioned in ādi Leela, chapter 17. After this function at the house of Sivas Thakur Nityānanda Prabhu appeared. And when he met with Lord Caitani he got the opportunity to see him in his six armed form. The form of Sharabush or the sixth eye of Lord Gora Sundar is the representation of three incarnations.
The form of Śrī Ramachandra is symbolized by a bow and arrow. And the form of Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa is symbolized by a stick and flute like those generally held by a cowherd boy. And Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu is symbolized by a Sannyāsa, Danda and Kamandalu. One day Lord Chaitanya Mahāprabhu exhibit to Lord Nityānanda a six armed form bearing a conch shell, disk, club, lotus flower, bow and flute. Thereafter the Lord showed him his forearm form standing in a three curved posture with two hands he played upon a flute and in the other two he carried a coin, shell and disk. Finally the Lord showed Nityaganda Prabhu his two armed form of Kṛṣṇa, the son of Maharaj Nanda simply playing on his flute, his bluish body dressed in yellow garments.
Nanda Prabhu then arranged to offer Vyāsa Pūjā worship of the spiritual master to Lord Śrī Gaura Sundara. The Lord Chaitanya carried the plow like weapon called Mushala in the ecstasy of being Nithyananda Prabhu. Then Mother Satchi saw the brothers Kṛṣṇa Balaram and their manifestation of Lord Chaitanya to Nanda. Then the Lord delivered Jaggai Malai. So many different pastimes were happening. One very interesting pastime was how sometimes Lord Nithyananda he would come into the ecstasy of a small boy and. And Chaitanya Bhagwar explains. Sometimes Nikitinanda would float in the Ganges and he wouldn’t move. People were seeing him and they thought that maybe his dead body floating there. So they didn’t know. Just like Lord Ananta, Lord Nithananda would float on the Ganges. People wouldn’t understand. Sometimes he would lie unconscious for two or three days without coming back to consciousness.
So many inconceivable things were done by Lord Nithyananda. No one can express anything about Nithyananda completely. Not even all the heads of Anand today could do so. Nityānanda would get so ecstatic and Kṛṣṇa conscious. And when he would faint, nobody could revive him for two or three or four days. That was how ecstatic he became. Just like small children will sometimes cry when they don’t get something. Sometimes Lord Nityānanda, he would feel so much separation for the Lord. He would literally cry like a small child. Sometimes. Then he would suddenly change. And he would become always blissful, very happy. Sometimes he would be in the mood of a small child and he would forget to put his clothes on. This one pastime happened. One day. Lord Chaitanya was seated and also came to him. And he was totally absorbed in childhood pastimes.
And he came and he was totally in his birthday suit, without any clothes, with a big smile on his face like a small child. And at that time. And at that time, there were just tears coming from his eyes in ecstasy.
And he was crying out, my Lord is divine, Pandit. Lord of Nadia. My master is Nimāi Pandit.
And when the Lord saw him doing this, couldn’t help but smile. His body was completely effulgent, like so many suns. But the Lord quickly took his turban off, took the cloth covering his head and he covered up Lord Nityānanda. Then he put the sandalwood of Lord Nityānanda and gave him a garland. And he had him sit down.
In.
Front of his own seat. And then the Lord started to offer him respect. And all the devotees could hear. The Lord said, your name is Nithyananda and your form is Nithyananda. Nithyananda means eternally blissful or transcendental eternal bliss. So your name is Nithyananda. Your form is Nithyananda. And you are having the form of Nithyananda Rao. Whenever you’re traveling, whenever you’re eating, whenever you’re in ecstasy, you’re always in Nithyananda.
There’s nothing about you that is not Nithyananda.
Everything is transcendentally blissful about you. Eternally blissful.
One human being can understand you.
You are Nithyananda. You are the supreme transcendental reality. Whoever you are, Lord Kṛṣṇa is there. Whatever Lord Chaitanya would say, Lord Nityānanda would Try to satisfy. He was always agreeable to carry out the order of Lord Chaitanya. Lord Chaitanya said. Lord Chaitanya said, Give me one of your coping. It’s my desire to have one of your copings. Lord Chaitanya took his Copenhagen and cut it into little pieces and gave to all of the Vaishnav that were present. And everyone put a small piece of copen on their head. He told them, all of you tie this to your head. You will get the supreme food from the master of all Yoga, Nithyananda. Istani explained that by the mercy of Nithyananda one gets Vishnu Bhakti. You should know that Nithyananda is Kṛṣṇa has Ka’s full potency who starts second his Lord Nikki Nanda, his associate, his.
Friend,.
His bed, his decoration, His confidant, his brother. No one can know the end of Lord Nithyananda’s qualities and character. He is the Lord of all the Jivas, the protector of the Jivas and the dear most friend of all the Jivas. His every activity is filled with the ecstasy of Kṛṣṇa devotion. Worshipping him, serving him. One gets Kṛṣṇa Prema Bhakti. So with devotion, tie his Copenhagen on your head with great care worship. Go and do your worship in your house. So getting the order from Lord Gorakha, all the devotees, with great affection, they tied a piece of his Copenhagen on their head. And then the Lord said, listen, Almighty devotees, the water from Nithyananda’s lotus feet should be taken. If you just by taking it, you get very intense devotion for Lord Kṛṣṇa.
So when they got the order, all of them went to Lord Nithyananda’s lotus feet and washed his lotus feet and took the water from his lotus feet. Somebody’s taking five times.
Someone is taking give me ten times. Give me more, give me more.
He was in ecstasy. He’s simply smiling in ecstasy the whole time. Then Lord Gorakha sitting down, Seeing that everyone is taking the drink the foot bathing water of Lord Nithyananda. Everyone starts becoming madly chanting out Hareem,.
Hareem, hareem, Hareem.
By taking the bath water from ordination on the other feet, they became mad. And the whole sky was filled with.
The sound of Haribo. Somebody said, today my life is.
Is perfected. Someone else said, today all the bondage of the material world is cut. And someone else said, today I have.
Finally become the servitor of Lord Kṛṣṇa.
And someone else, today the most wonderful day has manifested.
And someone said.
That Char Namrita is very tasteful. Even now the sweet taste has not left my mouth. What a wonderful effect everyone got from the bath water of Lord Nithyananda’s lotus feet. Just by taking it, everyone became very anxious in love of Kṛṣṇa. Someone was dancing, someone was chanting.
Someone was rolling on the ground. Someone was crying out. Someone was crying. And this way there is a huge kīrtana. Hare Kṛṣṇa. Hare Kṛṣṇa. Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa Hare. Hare Ram. Hari. Ram.
Ram. Ram. Hari. Hari. All the devotees were dancing for a.
While they go on Chaitanya.
After a while.
Then Lord Chaitanya he started to shout out the holy names.
And he got up and he started to dance in the most beautiful way. At that time Nithyananda Prabhu he got up and the two Prabhu’s were dancing together.
Surrounded by all the devotees.
Some devotee would fall against another devotee.
And sometimes somebody would grab another one. Sometimes somebody would grab the dust from someone’s Lord’s feet and put it on their head.
And sometimes someone would grab the neck.
Of someone else and cry in separation of the Lord. No one could say what form they.
Were taken were taking. And no one could explain all the wonderful things that were happening. And this way Lord Chaitanya and Nithyananda they embraced each other. And in great ecstasy the two Prabhu’s were dancing. All the devotees were dancing around them.
The whole world started to shake under the vibration of Lord Nitin on this lotus feet. Seeing this, all the devotees started to cry out Haribo. Haribo. Hareem.
Hareem. So in this way filled with the.
Ecstasy and love of Kṛṣṇa.
In madness of love of Kṛṣṇa, the.
Two lords by Kunta they were dancing.
With all their devotees in love of Godhead. In these transcendental pastimes there was no separation. The Lord was hope to be dancing. So like this. Then the Lord clapped his hands three times and he again was going on find the lotus feet of Lord Nithyananda. Saying how Brahma and she they worship these lotus feet. These lotus feet are so sacred. Even if a breeze from the lotus feet of Lord Nithyananda happens to pass over somebody’s body, they can never give up Kṛṣṇa ever. When all the devotees here the glory is the Lord. Ninja. There was a great shout.
Nithyananda Prabhu. Jai. Jai. Jai.
We’re all hearing about the glories of Lord Nithyanandan whose master was Gaurachandra. Whoever hears about these words of Lord Nithinanda, whoever has seen these past times, They always see Lord Nithyananda. They can never forget the glory the Lord Nityānanda. So like this, there were so many intimate pastimes between Lord Chaitanya and Lord Nityānanda. Nagai Madaya were delivered by Lord Nithyananda. Then there was the dance drama where Lord Chaitanya took a role. Also. Nithyananda was there. There was traveling all over Nadia one time more Chaitanya, Nithinanda. They were going and they went over to the other side of the river. And there. There was one ashram with one. He sat there with a beard. But he had tilak. And he called him, please come into my ashram. And then he asked them to sit down. Let me give you some prashad.
And he gave them some fruit. And he was talking and telling nice things. Then he said, the two prabhu sat down and accepted the fruit prasad. Then he asked, why don’t you stay for lunch? will you all make some nice fish? Lord Chaitanya looked at Nithyananda. Nithyananda looked at Lord Chaitanya, said, fish. You eat fish. Foot of the water or something. Give me some sign of Saja. Spit out the food they were eating. They say, yo boghest Hadhu.
How can a Vaishnava eat these things?
And how we are accepting your food. They ran, the two of them ran all the way to the Ganges. And they jumped into the Ganges with their clothes on. Feeling themselves contaminated by taking the fruit from a fish. Eating Vaishnava. It’s important in Bengal now. Many kula gurus, family hereditary gurus. They give people initiation. I met one. He said he had 2,000 disciples. I asked him, of your 2,000 disciples, how many are vegetarian? He thought for a long time. He said, maybe 10. I said, do you know that you had to take all the karma from that? My father never told me that. He just said, give him Diksha and get the donations. What about the karma? He didn’t tell me about karma. A lot of people, they. They get some cheap initiation. And they’re not following. And they’re thinking Lord Chaitanya is accepting.
But we can see from this past time, Lord Chaitanya didn’t accept Nityānanda. People didn’t accept. Rather, when they know that these people.
Were taking ref from accepting.
They jumped them in the Ganges for purification.
Then.
There was the past time. Also Śrīvas and Malini. They would have a Vātsalya bhav or a parental mood with Lord Nithyananda. Then Mother Sachi, I told that pastime yesterday how Mother Satchi was feeding Lord Chaitanya, Nithyananda Mahapashana. And how when she went back in the room she looked and instead of Gordon tight there was Kṛṣṇa and Balaram and she fainted. Then there was a special Abishek for Lord Chaitanya. So where are we now? Then he went with the Lord to. To take. When he took Sannyas, he took the Lord to A Doita’s house. Bright Gupta realized the transcendental qualities of Lord Nithyananda. Lord Nithyananda was there when Lord Chaitanya was performing the Mahaprakash the 21 hour Sankirta. What was Lord Nithyananda doing? Who can say? P.S. No. In the Mahaprakash, the 21 hour Kīrtana Lord Nithyananda was doing a service for Lord Chaitanya.
He was holding the umbrella over Lord Chaitanya’s head. Chatrādhār. Might have dance nice to see at some point. But for some time he was holding the umbrella. The ceremony umbrella. He was in the Nagarkirtan. He saw the visceral roof. The universal form of Lord Chaitanya. He went with Lord Chaitanya. Mention that. Then he went with Lord Chaitanya. When he went to Jagannath Purī, Bokhi Dadda, three pirates and threw it in the river. Lord Caitanya got angry and ran ahead. Then Lord Chaitanya later ordered Lord Nithyananda to go back to Bengal to accept Grihasta Ashram and to preach. To establish the preaching. He said that we both here who’s going to preach? So Lord Nithyananda came back and established the Naamahatta at Surabhi Kurds. And spent many days with Śrīvas Thakur and Śrīvas Andan. And he organized a massive preaching throughout the whole of Bengal.
And flooded the Bengal with the Harinama Sankirta. He got married in Saligram. The help of Kṛṣṇa Das Hoda, Kṛṣṇa Das Burogachi. That’s another interesting pastime. How Surya Dasarakela had two daughters. And he asked Hare Kṛṣṇa Das to find good husband for them. Husbands for them. And he came back and he suggested that Nikkinanda would be the only suitable husband. And he should marry both. Because both of them are equal. They qualified and no one else was as qualified as him.
But then.
Okay, Hare Kṛṣṇa. But the anti Nithyananda group has told rumors to Suyedasarakela. And heard that all Nitinanda is like a Harvard dude. And he acts funny sometimes. He Said me marry my daughters to Nithyananda.
That Abadut never.
Kṛṣṇa Hoda got very offended.
You don’t know. You’re talking about. You don’t know who Nithyananda Prabhu is.
I cannot stay here and hear these offenses. And he left. That night. He had a vision and he saw his daughter. He saw actually Kṛṣṇa, excuse me, Balaram. And he saw Revati and Bharuni, the two consorts of Balaram. And then he saw Revati and Bharuni turn into Basuda in Java. And Balaram turned into Nithyananda. Then he saw himself giving them his daughters in marriage to Nithyananda. And he woke up and he realized that Nithyananda was a divine personality. And he had committed a great offense. He sent a messenger to get the king, Kṛṣṇa Hora. And he apologized and he told, all right, you can arrange it. And Kṛṣṇa Hora went to tell Nithyananda. Nithyananda at that time was giving a Bhāgavatam class and all the devotees were out. And he waited until the Bhāgavatam class was over.
And then he was sitting there talking with Śrīvas and some devotees. And he told Śrīvas the news that this alliance could be made and he could carry out the order of Lord Caitanya. Then Śrīvas went over and whispered in the ear of Nithyananda like this, you know this one, Excuse me, Nithyananda, because. Okay. And he went on with the discussion, No big discussion. Then he went over to the place of Burogachi. In this Burogachi today there was a beautiful 450-year-old deity of Kṛṣṇa of Gordon Thai, about almost five and a half, six feet high. Very beautiful deity. Deities of Kṛṣṇa Horada, one of the associates of Lord Nithyananda. Lord Nithyananda. There he was given Abhishek for his wedding by all the Brahmanas the day before.
And in Shaligram, another village where Surya Sarkil and his two daughters and Gauri Das Pandit lived the Brahmanas there, did Abishek for the two daughters. And then next day Nithinanda came and there was a whole big wedding ceremony with lot of Kīrtana and all the other normal wedding ceremonies, changing garlands and everything. Then after one day, Nithyananda went back to Burogachi. Then from there he went over, back to Navadvit from Navadith and he went to like that to Shantipur and Shamshantipur. He got down to Kurdaha and in Kur Daha he built his house instead. As you can see in Karada you can see the house where Lord Nithyananda stayed with Basuda and Janava and where Virchandra and Gaṅgā baby were appeared. Visited Lord Chaitanya, Jagannath Purī many times. Lord Nikita.
And they’re taught to listen to that Ramchandra Khan or Ramchandra Kar he gave the mercy to Raghunathas Manihati. Actually Abhiram Ta Every time they had a child, Abhiram Da Thakur would pay obeisances to the children of Nitinanda and they would die. Abhiram Taggar was also. He was a devotee left over from the Trela Yuga from the Dwarpa Yuga. When he’d go into the temple and bow down if there was any bogus Shaligramshila would explode. His devotion was so strong that any unbona fide deity would break. So when he paid his Abisa Nitimanda’s children if they worked transcendental, they died immediately. So finally when he bowed down to Gaṅgā Devī and to Bir Chakra they didn’t die here. Bir Chatra is Kirodakshaya Vishnu and Gandhi Devī is Gaṅgā. So like this, So many gentle pastimes of Lord Nityānanda. Just to remember his Tanzano glory.
He’s the Ādi Guru, the original Guru, the spiritual master is considered a confidential associate or representative of or devotee of Lord Nithyananda.
Nitananda Prabhuki Golango.
Any question? Yeah, keep in mind, Separate book. There are some separate books but at least one of them is apparently dubious in its reliability. I know one, they said Nityānanda but the people say it’s not bona fide. It was made by much later by Nityānanda Banks that tried to sustain some kind of wrong philosophy that they propound. Basically Dityananda is very profusely described in many chapters of the Chaitanya Bhagavad in his pastime sir and glories are mentioned in Chaitanya Charity, Chaitanya Mangal and other scriptures. Mike mentioned. In the Pramana Puran there’s a mention of Lord Nithyananda. Śrīdhara Chandra Goswami has given the Gayatri and meditation of Nithyananda. There’s a offering noun Rādhā Sat by Sarvaba Bharacharya. There’s a knitting on the ostrich by Sarava Boma. Mention specifically about anything about a separate biography for Nick Ananda.
There was something by the servant of Advaita an Advaita Prakash which is give it some historical. Not completely, but some historical value as far as I know. But as far as Nithyananda there’s someone that came up with a Nitinanda Prakash. But I have heard it’s not valid. Not bona anything else. Authority does not actually know. The problem is that in. Some different books they said different things. That’s the problem. Some say Lakshmi Pati say. Some say Madhavandapuri. Then there’s another book called Pray Lives which is not really accepted when they say Ishvar Purī but that’s not accepted by the Gauḍīya Vaishnavas. Prabhupāda accepted that he was initiated by Lakshmi Bhati when he was traveling throughout India. But there seems to be some basis that he did meet Madhavandra Purī at some time. That’s where I put the idea came. Do you have any more information?
He’s only 14 years older than Lord Shikanta and he was initiated by. Well, regardless of whether he was initiated by Lakshmi Patti or Madhavandi, that’s five of that ways back in our Son Pradaya. And then he’s basically a contemporary with Ra and Mar is accepting disciples. What’s the time span in between? They weren’t around very long.
Pilot had to write down all the dates of their birth and disappearance and figure it all out.
Would have had a very short span in which he would initiated and so forth. Between 1959 they got initiated by Mādhava or Lakshmi Valley or whoever. And the time he got initiated.
He wasn’t initiated when he was around 16. Who was the first person initiator?
Who?
Sanatan lives in South India group Sanatan and some people in South India. He would give them Harinam initiation when he was traveling in South India. When he was in Navadweep he did the. He organized the initiation of Gadar Prabhu Damar to Pundur virginity. Anything on today’s class? I was wondering if when Lord Mitchell did. Did he come? He had childhood pastimes. Did he come from Etern? No, they met for the first time here when the Sankirtan movement started. He was in aka Chakra till 12 years of age. And he went with this mendicant Sanyasi all over all the holy places india South India and then he was in Vrindavan. From Vrindavan he came here. It was the first time that he can this manifestation the pastime at Lord Chaitanya.
So Lord Chaitanya already started the Sankirtan movement for some short time after he was married. When he was preaching, there’s no mention of, you know, extreme Avadut activities. It was more when Lord Chaitanya was there and he was in those earlier pastimes that these Avadud things. And when he was actually preaching. You don’t hear about those activities except that sometimes he would run in ecstasy or something. It’s not mentioned anywhere at that time.
