 mūkaṁ karoti vācālaṁ

paṅguṁ laṅghayate girim

yat-kṛpā tam ahaṁ vande

Śrī Caitanya Īśvaram

So today is soon after the Gaura Pūrṇimā festival. (He repeated in Hindi as well)

Can I be understood in English or should I have a repetition?

 Lord Caitanya came to distribute love of Kṛṣṇa and Kṛṣṇa can only give out His love. But Lord Caitanya, He desired that everyone should get the mercy and love of Kṛṣṇa!

So, He didn’t consider who was qualified and who was unqualified. He gave His mercy to everyone. So, He predicted that His name would be sung, preached, throughout the world. Prithvi ce ace joto nagar adi gram, sarvatra pracār hoibe mora naam.

So, Śrīla Prabhupāda, he wanted to preach in the western countries. This is what he was ordered to do by his guru. But the bābājīs in Vṛndāvana and other people, they thought, prithvi te means civilized world, means India. Not possible to preach in the West. They are uncivilized!

But Śrīla Prabhupāda said, no! prithvi te means the whole earth!

So Śrīla Prabhupāda went around 15 times, around the world! And he preached in the UK, in America, South America, Africa, Australasia. He preached all over Europe. So, Śrīla Bhakti Vinod Thakur had predicted that someone would come and they would easily go from one continent to another.

So, in the time of Śrīla Bhakti Vinod Thakur, there were no airplanes, the only way to go from one continent to another was by ship. And that was not very easy! But he said, he predicted someone would easily go from one continent to the next! So that is what Śrīla Abhaycaran Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda did! Because, he went by airplane from one continent to another.

Now, in the world, they have declared a pandemic with the corona virus! But actually, they say many people could die. In America, one nurse told one medical joke. She said, a doctor told the patient, you have nine to live.

Nine what?

Nine years?

Nine months?

What?

The doctor said, nine, eight, seven, ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Nine seconds! But I was saying, that people in the West, they don’t know how to die! If they think they have nine months, they think, oh, we have to go for a vacation!

Śrīla Prabhupāda, he said, one of his friends was a business man, he grabbed the doctor’s hand and he said, doctor, GIVE ME ONE MORE YEAR! In one year, my business will be doubled!

But Śrīla Prabhupāda’s point was that people are so foolish, that even if they live one more year and they double their capital, they cannot take it with them anyway!

So, the Bhagavad-gītā tells us that if at the time of death, we think of Kṛṣṇa, we will go to Kṛṣṇa. As they say, Nārāyaṇa anta smriti! So now we have a pandemic, many people may die! But, how to actually die, they don’t know! We are the spirit soul; the spirit soul doesn’t die! But the body dies. And, if we remember Kṛṣṇa at the time we leave the body, we go back to Kṛṣṇa! So, there is nothing to fear from death! The thing is that we should remember Kṛṣṇa at that time.

 One lady in America, she had 40 million dollars. So, she left it all to her cat! The cat was the richest cat in the world! And, so some lawyers were appointed to spend on behalf of the cat. When the cat died, then the money would go to different charities. But what was she thinking of at the time of death?

She thought her best friend was the cat and she gave four crores of dollars to the cat! So, people don’t know how their consciousness should be, when they leave the body. Of coursewe say that we like to remember Nārāyaṇa or Kṛṣṇa.

(Guru maharaj repeated in Hindi: Hum log bolte hian Kṛṣṇa ko smaran karṇa, athva Nārāyaṇa ka smaran karṇa thik hoga!)

But if one doesn’t believe in Kṛṣṇa, Nārāyaṇa or Rāma and if they believe in Jesus, think of Jesus at the time of death. Or they can think of Allah. But somehow, they should think about the Supreme Person.

Śrīla Prabhupāda was saying to someone, you don’t like that I present Kṛṣṇa, then you say what is the name of God? What does He look like? I cannot do that, the visitor said! I CANNOT DO THAT! I can do that, what is the problem, Śrīla Prabhupāda said! His address is Goloka Vṛndāvana! Ha! Ha! His name is Kṛṣṇa. So, like that Śrīla Prabhupāda he was preaching very dynamically.

 So, now we have a pandemic in the world, but if people get sick, they don’t know what to do! If someone dies, they should think about Kṛṣṇa, they should think about Godhead at the time of death. But they don’t know that. They are thinking, oh, who will take care of my dog, who will take care of my cat! One of my god brothers, he was seeing his father, who was on his deathbed. So, then he asked all the relatives, just give me a few minutes with my father, alone. And then, he was telling his father, you don’t die, you are an eternal spirit soul. And please, chant the name of God! Repeat after me,

Hare Kṛṣṇa Hare Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa Hare Hare,

Hare Rāma Hare Rāma Rāma Rāma Hare Hare!

Outside the relatives were hitting the door. They were thinking that maybe he was making him sign the will! Ha! Ha! And they came in and ah! Crying!

So, we had in Kolkata here, the mother, the son, the daughter everyone was my disciple, except the husband! He was against! He had cancer and he was on the fourth stage of cancer. First, second, third, fourth! Fourth means gone! Then through the wall walked some people carrying leather ropes, hairy body, had fangs, big teeth!

He said, no, no, NO, NO, NOT ME! NOT ME! NO NO! He saw what we see as the description of the Yamadūtas. And he said, no, no, no! They disappeared through the wall. Then he called his wife. Bring me the Bhagavad-gītā, bring me beads! I want to chant japa! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! And he started reading Bhagavad-gītā, chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa! What we couldn’t do in years, the Yamadūtas did in five seconds! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! So, now, who is watching this?

Devotee: When that person saw that Yamadūta, you said that he got the mercy in 5 seconds. How did he get this? Because he was absolutely anti. In spite of that they gave him time.

His Holiness Jayapatākā Swami: Ha! Ha! I don’t know! He was lucky! Ha! Ha! Maybe He chanted the name of Kṛṣṇa!

 Devotee: Hare Kṛṣṇa dear guru maharaj: (Guru maharaj said: HAREEEE KṚṢṆA! ) When pure devotees come on the planet, do their spiritual forms exist there in the spiritual world?

 His Holiness Jayapatākā Swami: There are different tattvas – Śakti tattva has unlimited potency. So, the śakti tattva can exist in many different universes at the same time. Like Rādhārāṇī is a śakti tattva. We are all jīva tattvas. So, there is a limit to how many places we can be at the same time. But we can be in Kṛṣṇa loka, at the same time in Swetadvip with Lord Caitanya. So, from that understanding, when Lord Caitanya goes down, we can also accompany Him. But some devotees may stay in the material world and serve the Lord here. Next question.

 Nārāyaṇī Rādhā devī dāsī: Hare Kṛṣṇa dear guru maharaj, PAMRO. (Guru maharaj: ACCEPTED!) Can we kill mosquitos or should we not kill any creatures?

His Holiness Jayapatākā Swami: In Śrīla Prabhupāda’s room in Kolkata, he had a velvet curtain. So, he said that the velvet curtain was attracting mosquitos. Then some devotee said, that we could kill the mosquitos. So, he said, nonsense! You put a curtain to attract it and then kill it! So, if we are attacked by mosquitos, then we can, in self-defense, kill it. Or we can use neem oil, citronella oil to repel the mosquitos. Apparently, the neem oil makes the mosquitos celibate brahmacārīs!

So, the mosquitos, the females take the blood to ripen the eggs. So, the neem oil changes that. I was reading that citronella oil, lemon grass oil each of them have some different things. One oil, like citronella oil or something, it bewilders the mosquito, they cannot smell blood. It gives them a stuffy nose! Ha! Ha! So, like that different repellants work in different ways. So, I purchase three four oils, neem oil, citronella oil, lemon grass oil, make my own super repellant! Put all over the body. So, you can use some repellant oils so that you don’t have to kill the mosquitos. But since the mosquitos carry very heavy diseases like dengue, malaria, somehow, protecting yourselves from these diseases, it is allowed. But we would prefer a more non-violent way of doing it.

Devotee: Where will a person go if they are chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa, but he or she is not initiated? At the time of death.

 His Holiness Jayapatākā Swami: The chanting of Hare Kṛṣṇa, does not depend on initiation. If one has the opportunity to take initiation and doesn’t do it, that is an offence. If they chant the name of Kṛṣṇa, they will go back to Kṛṣṇa.

 Question: Will devotees also see Yamadūtas at the time of death?

 His Holiness Jayapatākā Swami: Not normally. Sometimes if the person is very sinful, they see Yamadūtas.

Devotee: Dear guru maharaj: PAMRO. Guru maharaj, in this pandemic corona virus, where we are being advised to stay away from each other, even the India government has cancelled all visas. So, a lot of us from the UK will not be able to come for the glorious Vyāsa pūjā. How can we keep motivating each other in preaching?

His Holiness Jayapatākā Swami: I think that Jānakī Rāmacandra will have to work out some way to broadcast the Vyāsa Pūjā so that people in the UK can watch it, people all over the world can watch it! So, wherever we are online broadcasting live, we also put a copy in You tube. So, you heard that reply from Jānakī Rāmacandra – that we broadcast on Facebook and upload the video on You Tube. (Guru maharaj said in Hindi: Bad mein You Tube me uttega, denge!)

Devotee: Dear guru maharaj, the class was very enlightening. Some families according to tradition, they feel that children should listen to elders and elders should not listen to children. Can you enlighten us how to handle such scenario?

His Holiness Jayapatākā Swami: That is a normal social etiquette. But spiritual life doesn’t depend on it. Like Devahūti was taught by her son. Her son was an avatar. So, in spiritual life it doesn’t apply. Just like it is said, that we can take gold from any place, even a dirty place. Say there is a kilo of gold lying in the garbage, will you say, no, no, I won’t touch it! So, like that if someone maybe younger, well if they have spiritual knowledge, we can take that.
