20050827 Janmastami Day Talk

The following is a talk given by His Holiness Jayapataka Swami Maharaj on August 27th 2005 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia 

The talk was given on the occasion of Sri Krishna Janmashtami

Hare Krishna! Hare Krishna! I didn't hear you 

Hare Krishna! 

You should hear louder than you, I am repeating Hare Krishna (louder) Hare krishna (more louder) Krishna Krishna Hare hare hare rama hare rama rama rama hare hare 

Dear devotees,

I am very happy to be here in Krishna, Janmashtami festival. 

This festival according to Purana’s, according to the Yuga’s is very powerful.

Bathing Krishna, having darshan of Krishna, worshiping Krishna, chanting the holy names of Krishna, hearing the pastimes of Krishna, seeing the presentation of Krishna, presence pastimes, the dances, the dramas dedicated to Krishna, fasting for Krishna, feasting for Krishna,. All these things are immense spiritual benefits.

So, this is the day when Krishna, appeared in this world, it was predicted by Narada muni also predicted by voice from the devas. So, Kamsa was prepared to kill Him as soon as He appeared. What was called a mercy this Kamsa was transferred demon he and Puthana killed 100 of babies he can kill people without a second thought, but when Mother Devaki was pregnant 11 months that she should have an abortion even for demon like Kamsa abortion was too horrible so, think how bad an abortion must be that even Kamsa doesn’t want it. Anyways that is another issue he was waiting for Krishna, to be born for killing.  

When Krishna, appeared he appeared with four arms, with helmet, with jewellery, with earrings, with complete opulence’s of Narayana. 

Devaki and Vasudeva offered their prayer to Him, He revealed to them the 2 births before they had worshiped Him and praying to Him to have a child like Him and He said there is nobody like Me so that I will become our child and I will be your child for 3 births. And then He would come as their child and so that He said I will come this is I just wanted to show you that this is Me. 

So, Devaki after offering her prayers she said to Krishna, please take the form of a baby. I am afraid for you, Krishna, said I will take the form of baby so then Vasudeva should take Me to the house of Nanda Maharaja and there his wife Yashoda just gave a birth to a baby girl bring the girl and keep Me in her place. So, then he took the form of a little boy, blue coloured boy, it is said that this boy Devaki had that was very significant. 

She was afraid for Krishna, So, we should also be afraid for our spiritual consciousness. We should be afraid of maya then using the energy. Our spiritual life is very important and very hard to get. We can lose it very easily if we are associating with material energy and grossly therefore, just like Devaki wanted to protect Krishna, we should protect our Krishna, consciousness. So, how we protect our Krishna consciousness? We should avoid bad association, we should associate with devotees, we should regularly chant Hare Krishna,

“Hare krsna Hare Krsna Krsna Krsna Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare” 

This chanting gives us the shelter of Krishna. This is the very special mercy of the Lord. It gives us devotee protection from the impairment of the material energy, But we need to protect ourselves by taking Krishna's energies, By chanting always His holy names. 

How many of you are chanting His Names? Wow Nanri (thank you) very nice. (side conversation)

So, chanting fasting in Krishna, names we can be under His protection. 

So, then Vasudeva took Krishna, but all the cages were locked right there.

help help! how will he get through this locked door there was rain, thunder, lightning. Guards fell asleep (snoring sounds). And the doors opened out and Vasudeva was free to go, (14.1 - 14.3 not clear) 

How he will go in that heavy rain Anantha Sesa came onto Vayu the big snake over Vasudeva gave shelter the cover. 

This is the amazing things wonderful things happened with Krishna, 

Then Krishna, He just did Vasudeva just did as Krishna, said went in the house of Nanda maharaja, Yashoda was lying he took the baby girl and put Krishna, there. Yashoda was so tired from childbirth she did not knew she had a boy or girl. So, like this Krishna appeared at this holy day 5000 some years ago. When Krishna, comes in the world it means all goodness, all truth, all of love into the world. 

Jaya bhagavan Sri Krsna  ki (devotess Jaya) 

So, Lord Caitanya He tells us we should become devotees of Krishna, He was teaching in very simple way by singing the Holy Names, singing instructions in song form “sikha diya, sab nadiya phirche nece’ gaura-nitai” He danced and chanted Gaura Nimai Nawadwip, Nadia district other district then He was giving the mercy to everyone. So, this song is written by Bhaktivinod Takur tells about the instructions of lord Caitanya to the coming people. Just accordance to chant with me and clap your hands “rādhā-kṛṣṇa' bol bol bolo re sobāi (ei) śikṣā diyā, sab nadīyā phirche nece' gaura-nitāi (miche) māyār bośe, jāccho bhese', khāccho hābuḍubu, bhāi rādhā-kṛṣṇa' bol bol bolo re sobāi” (devotees singing)

I just sang this in italy in italy and 100 of people chanted and clapped hands with me, Now I am in malaysia the land of devotes and in here you all should clap and sing. (devotees clapping) rādhā-kṛṣṇa' bol bol bolo re sobāi 

Radha Krsna bolo bolo bolo re sobai 

Radha krsna you know what that means, Bolo means chant Bolo Bolo Bolo re Sobai means everyone.

“rādhā-kṛṣṇa' bol bol bolo re sobāi” 2*(devotees clapping and singing after Guru Maharaj) So, what does this second line means “miche māyār bośe, jāccho bhese', khāccho hābuḍubu, bhāi” what does this mean? you're floating in the ocean of birth and death, this ocean of material world is illusion.

You think you’re going to be happy but wave comes and pushes us down and we are jointing in the water , blo blo blo blo ha ha ha I will pray to Krishna (devotees laughing) another waves comes and pushes down blo blo blo blo blo blo blo blo blo (devotees laughing) haribol (devotees clapping)

So, we have to get out of this Maya, Maya devi want us took to take shelter of Maya, you maybe be not know you will be pushed and joint and suffer, lets get back  to that transcendental platform. 

So, lord Caitanya taught how to do that  “jiva krishna-das, e biswas, korle to’ ar duhkho nai rādhā-kṛṣṇa' bol bol bolo re sobāi” (2*)

 Jiva krsna e biswas das korle to’ ar dukho nai - if we believe. Do you believe ? Do you believe ? (devotees yes, yes) thank you very much if you believe about  Krsna story Tar dukho nai no more sufferings you want sufferings? You want sufferings? (devotees No)

Wants the solution? Then be a Krsna das you must understand that you are the servant of Krsna no more suffering, how can we understand we are servants of Krsna? How to be  happy? How to be happy this is the next instruction. 

“krishna bolbe jabe, pulak ha’be jhorbe ankhi, boli tai rādhā-kṛṣṇa' bol bol bolo re sobāi rādhā-kṛṣṇa' bol bol bolo re sobāi rādhā-kṛṣṇa' bol bol bolo re sobāi rādhā-kṛṣṇa' bol bol bolo re sobāi” krsna bolbe pulaka haibe so when we chant the holy names of Krsna hairs and hands will stand in ecstasy and our eyes will be filled with tears of ecstatic love. 

This is so wonderful. Who doesn't wants to chant when you feel such wonderful happiness ecstatic loving happiness. So, lord Caitanya feels so blissful chanting in love, He wanted everyone to chant with Him so he invited everyone to chant, come out with us chant and be happy 

“radha krishna’ bolo, sange calo, ei-matra bhikha ca” (2*) rādhā-kṛṣṇa' bol bol bolo re sobāi” (2*)

 Radha krsna bolo chant Radha Krsna you know that meaning sange chalo come with us, come on with us chant with us hare krsna and be happy what's the problem? Radha krsna bolo sange chalo ei matro bhika ca. Without asking anything else am I asking you for money nor ask for to do great austerity chant hare krsna and be devotee of Krsna what more you want. No one, sometimes to be happy, someone may be fearful. What happened to my bicycle, what happened to my pen drive, what will happen? fears coming in mind. 

“Jay sakal’bipod bhaktivinod bole, jakhon o-nam gai (2*) rādhā-kṛṣṇa' bol bol bolo re sobāi” (2*) 

jaya sakal bipodi all victory you should come over all difficulties when you chant the hare krsna mantra nothing to worry about, we should take hare krsna chanting as shelter at this day on janmashtami and every day. we can be protected. 

Hare Krsna Radha Krsna are same, Radha Krsna is Radha krsna. Hare is addressing Radha rādhā-kṛṣṇa' bol bol bolo re sobāi, hare krsna hare krsna krsna krsna hare hare hare rama hare rama rama rama hare hare (2*) 

So, I just came from India to be here with you  for janmashtami. I was very happy to spend Janmashtami here in Kuala Lumpur ISKCON. 

How many of you like to come here for Janmastami festival? Okay come tomorrow we have Prabhupada festivals in Mayapur 15 days from now is Radhastahami festival. 

So thank  you very much come here everyday whenever you can at least every sunday for the festival sunday feast be a regular devotee, practice krsna consciousness at home and be happy!  Nanri vanakam (thankyou) rādhā-kṛṣṇa' bol bol bolo re sobāi. 

So, I take this opportunity to thanks His Holiness Jayapataka swami and traveling body commissioner for international society for krishna consciousness for being present in the best auspicious janmasthami 2005 today is fourth day His Holiness Jayapataka swami is with us.
