20231115 Chapter 4 Śrī Caitanya-bhakta-mahimā (Part 5)

The following is a Sri Chaitanya Chandrāmṛtam Class given by His Holiness Jayapatākā Swami Mahārāja on November 15th, 2023 in Śrī Dhāma Māyāpur, India.

mūkaṁ karoti vācālaṁ paṅguṁ laṅghayate girim
yat-kṛpā tam ahaṁ vande śrī-guruṁ dīna-tāraṇam
paramānandaṁ mādhavaṁ śrī caitanya iśvaram

Hariḥ oṁ tat sat!

Hare Kṛṣṇa! Dear Devotees! Today we will be continuing with comentation of the Śrī Caitanya Candrāmṛtam.

Śrī Caitanya-candrāmṛtam 4.29

upaniṣadrājira anusandheya gauraharira pādapadmānusandhāna- pradānakārī puruṣai bhūri-bhāgyavān—

mahā-puruṣa-mānināṁ sura-munīśvarāṇāṁ nijaṁ
padāmbujam ajānatāṁ kim api garva-nirvāsanam
aho nayana-gocaraṁ nigama-cakra-cūḍā-cayaṁ
śacī-sutam acīkarat ka iha bhūri-bhāgyodayaḥ

Translation [Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Thākura]: The Upaniṣads that are the crest jewel of all the Vedic scriptures search after Lord Caitanya who destroys the pride of those who are unaware of His lotus feet but who think themselves as great personalities such as the best of the demigods and sages. Such son is shown to the eyes of a person like me. Oh! Who else can be more fortunate in this world than the one who has made the son of Śacī-devī to come within range of the eye of a person even like me! Aho!

Jayapatākā Swami: So, Śrīla Prabhupāda had blessed all his followers so that they could see the son of Mother Śacī and He was coming before their eyes. But we are not so fortunate but actually Śrīla Prabhupāda had made our good fortune for us. By his mercy we are able to see Lord Caitanya. We are able to become rich by seeing the transcendental form of Lord Caitanya. So, the Upaniṣads and different Vedas are trying to see Kṛṣṇa Caitanya. They don’t understand that although Lord Caitanya is very humble, He is actually the Supreme Lord and has come as the son of Mother Śacī.

Sri Caitanya-candramratam 4.30

sarvasādhanahīna gauraikaśaraṇa puruṣao puruṣārtha-śiroratna lābhe samartha—

sarva-sādhana-hīno ‘pi
paramaiśvara-vaibhave
gaurāṅge nyasta-bhāvo yaḥ
sarvārtha-pūrṇa eva saḥ

Anuvāda: Sarvaprakāra sādhanarahita haiyāo yini paramāścarya-vaibhavaviśiṣṭa śrī-gaurasundare tāṅhāra cittavṛtti samarpaṇa karena, tini niścayai paramapuruṣārtha kṛṣṇaprema lābha kariyā paripūrṇakāma hana, sandeha nāi.

Translation: Even though devoid of all sādhana, a person become full obtaining kṛṣṇa-prema which is the superexcellent goal of life by offering his heart to Lord Gaurāṅga who is wonderful with supreme opulence.

Jayapatākā Swami: Normally one fully absorbs one’s self in sadhana. By that they hope to realize Kṛṣṇa. But actually, Lord Caitanya is so merciful that He gives kṛṣṇa-prema freely. If someone offers their heart to Lord Caitanya, then that person, he becomes filled with kṛṣṇa-prema.

You know someone might think that I am not a great sādhaka, I can’t get the mercy of Lord Caitanya but here in this verse it says that simply by offering your heart to Lord Gaurāṅga, he can get kṛṣṇa-prema. So who are ready to offer the heart to Lord Caitanya.
