The following is a Śrī Kṛṣṇa Caitanya Book Compilation given by His Holiness Jayapatākā Swami Mahārāja on June 6th,2023 in Dallas, Texas, USA.

mūkaṁ karoti vācālaṁ paṅguṁ laṅghayate girim
yat-kṛpā tam ahaṁ vande śrī-guruṁ dīna-tāraṇam
paramānandaṁ mādhavaṁ śrī caitanya iśvaram

Hariḥ oṁ tat sat!

Hare Kṛṣṇa! Dear Devotees! Welcome! to today's compilation of the Śrī Kṛṣṇa Caitanya Book, Today's chapter is entitled as:

Phalaśruti – Will Satisfy the Mind and Ears and will be Able to Understand These Uncommon Activities of Deep Ecstatic Love for Kṛṣṇa
Under the section: The Bodily Transformations of Lord Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 17.49

e prabhura bhāvaśāvalya:—

karite aiche vilāpa, uṭhila udvega, bhāva,
mane kāho nāhi ālambana

udvega, viṣāda, mati, autsukya, trāsa, dhṛti, smṛti,
nānā-bhāvera ha-ila milana

Translation: While Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu lamented in this way, agitation and ecstasy awoke in His mind, and He became very restless. Many transcendental ecstasies combined in Him, including anxiety, lamentation, attention, eagerness, fear, determination and remembrance.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, Lord Caitanya would experience almost simultaneously different ecstasies. Ecstasies that were completely contradictory to each other, and this is the nature of mahā-bhāva, which only Rādhārāṇī, Lord Caitanya and a few devotees, Mādhavendra Purī experience. It is the eight stages of kṛṣṇa-prema. And it is rarely achieved. So, Lord Caitanya was experiencing these ecstasies which are uncommon.

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 17.50

kṛṣṇa virahonmāda:—

bhāva-śābalye rādhāra ukti, līlā-śuke haila sphūrti,
sei bhāve paḍe eka śloka

unmādera sāmarthye, sei ślokera kare arthe,
yei artha nāhi jāne loka

Translation: The aggregate of all these ecstasies once awoke a statement by Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī in the mind of Bilvamaṅgala Ṭhākura [Līlā-śuka]. In the same ecstatic mood, Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu now recited that verse, and on the strength of madness He described its meaning, which is unknown to people in general.

Jayapatākā Swami: In other words, Lord Caitanya’s ecstasies were unknown to the people. But He was explaining them, understanding the mentality of Rādhārāṇī.

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 17.51

śrī-rādhāra ukti – bilvamaṅgala-kṛta kṛṣṇakarṇāmṛte (42)—

Translation: Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu said, “ ‘Alas, what shall I do? To whom shall I speak? Let whatever I have done in hopes of meeting Kṛṣṇa be finished now. Please say something auspicious, but do not speak about Kṛṣṇa. Alas, Kṛṣṇa is lying within My heart like Cupid; therefore how can I possibly give up talking of Him? I cannot forget Kṛṣṇa, whose smile is sweeter than sweetness itself and who gives pleasure to My mind and eyes. Alas, My great thirst for Kṛṣṇa is increasing moment by moment!’

Purport: This statement by Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī is quoted from the Kṛṣṇa-karṇāmṛta (42).

Jayapatākā Swami: So Rādhārāṇī is first saying, She wants to forget Kṛṣṇa. But then She says, actually Kṛṣṇa is in Her heart, He is more sweet than anything, I cannot stop talking about Him! My great thirst for Kṛṣṇa is increasing moment by moment. So, Lord Caitanya, He was experiencing the love of Rādhārāṇī for Kṛṣṇa. Since Rukmiṇī told Kṛṣṇa that He knew everything, but one thing He did not know, but She knew and Rādhārāṇī knew. So what was that? “You do not know how much Your devotees love You and in what way they love You?” So Lord Kṛṣṇa told Rukmiṇī that, “In Kali-yuga I will come as My devotee.” So that is the reason for Lord Kṛṣṇa coming as Caitanya Mahāprabhu. That is why Lord Caitanya is experiencing this pure love of Rādhārāṇī.

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 17.52

ślokārtha; śrīmatīra kṛṣṇaviraha-vyākulatā varṇana:—
yathā rāga—

“ei kṛṣṇera virahe, udvege mana sthira nahe,
prāpty-upāya-cintana nā yāya

yebā tumi sakhī-gaṇa, viṣāde bāula mana,
kāre puchoṅ, ke kahe upāya?

Translation: “The anxiety caused by separation from Kṛṣṇa has made Me impatient, and I can think of no way to meet Him. O My friends, you are also deranged by lamentation. Who, therefore, will tell Me how to find Him?

Jayapatākā Swami: In the spiritual world Kṛṣṇa goes to Mathurā and comes back after fifteen days. But in this pastime, Rādhārāṇī was cursed to be separate from Kṛṣṇa for a hundred years. So this is a very intense situation for Her, and She is expressing this in different ways.

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 17.53

hā hā sakhi, ki kari upāya!

kāṅhā karoṅ, kāhāṅ yāṅa, kāhāṅ gele kṛṣṇa pāṅa,
kṛṣṇa vinā prāṇa mora yāya”

Translation: “O My dear friends, how shall I find Kṛṣṇa? What shall I do? Where shall I go? Where can I meet Him? Because I cannot find Kṛṣṇa, My life is leaving Me.”

Jayapatākā Swami: So here, Rādhārāṇī is expressing Her intense separation from Kṛṣṇa, but this is being said by Caitanya Mahāprabhu. He is actually tasting the ecstasy of separation that Rādhārāṇī experiences.

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 17.54

nairāśyera ākāṅkṣā o ādara:—

kṣaṇe mana sthira haya, tabe mane vicāraya,
balite ha-ila bhāvodgama

piṅgalāra vacana-smṛti, karāila bhāva-mati,
tāte kare artha-nirdhāraṇa

Translation: Suddenly, Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu became calm and considered His state of mind. He remembered the words of Piṅgalā, and this aroused an ecstasy that moved Him to speak. Thus He explained the meaning of the verse.

Purport: Piṅgalā was a prostitute who said, “To hope against hope produces only misery. Utter hopelessness is the greatest happiness.” Remembering this statement, Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu became ecstatic. The story of Piṅgalā is found in Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, Eleventh Canto, eighth chapter, verses 22-44, as well as in the Mahābhārata, Śānti-parva, chapter 174.

Jayapatākā Swami: Now Lord Caitanya was going through different ecstasies. So the realization of Piṅgalā, the prostitute is mentioned here. I don’t know how many of you have read the 11th Canto of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam? There, the history of Piṅgalā is given.

Actually, devotees here in Dallas are very nice, very special! And my time here was spent, it went by very quickly. And I am looking to be back and seeing all of you again!

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 17.55

kṛṣṇa-vismaraṇa-ceṣṭā:—

“dekhi ei upāye, kṛṣṇa-āśā chāḍi’ diye,
āśā chāḍile sukhī haya mana

chāḍa’ kṛṣṇa-kathā adhanya, kaha anya-kathā dhanya,
yāte haya kṛṣṇa-vismaraṇa”

Translation: Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu said, “If I give up hope of meeting Kṛṣṇa, I shall then be happy. Therefore, let us stop this most inglorious discussion of Kṛṣṇa. It would be better for us to talk of glorious topics and forget Him.”

Jayapatākā Swami: Rādhārāṇī is mad after seeing Kṛṣṇa. Sometimes, She thinks maybe not to go with Kṛṣṇa not to think about Him. But She cannot maintain that for more than a few moments!

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 17.56

kṛṣṇakarttṛka aprākṛta kāmadevasvarūpe hṛdayādhikāra

kahitei ha-ila smṛti, citte haila kṛṣṇa-sphūrti,
sakhīre kahe hañā vismite

”yāre cāhi chāḍite, sei śuñā āche citte,
kona rīte nā pāri chāḍite”

Translation: While speaking in this way, Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī suddenly remembered Kṛṣṇa. Indeed, He appeared within Her heart. Greatly astonished, She told Her friends, “The person I want to forget is lying in My heart.”

Jayapatākā Swami: Haribol! So in another words, She is saying I want to forget Kṛṣṇa. And then the next thing Kṛṣṇa is manifest in Her heart. Like this, She is showing the higher love of Kṛṣṇa.

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 17.57

rādhā-bhāvera svabhāva āna, kṛṣṇe karāya ‘kāma’-jñāna,
kāma-jñāne trāsa haila cite

kahe—“ye jagat māre, se paśila antare,
ei vairī nā deya pāsarite”

Translation: Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī’s ecstasy also made Her think of Kṛṣṇa as Cupid, and this understanding frightened Her. She said, “This Cupid, who has conquered the whole world and entered My heart, is My greatest enemy, for He does not allow Me to forget Him.”

Jayapatākā Swami: So, we are seeing how Lord Caitanya, He is realizing the pure love of Rādhārāṇī for Kṛṣṇa. In this way, He can appreciate how much affection Rādhārāṇī has for Him. But She is actually speaking like a mad person.

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 17.58

kṛṣṇārthe autsukya:—

autsukyera prāvīṇye, jiti’ anya bhāva-sainye,
udaya haila nija-rājya-mane

mane ha-ila lālasa, nā haya āpana-vaśa,
duḥkhe mane karena bhartsane

Translation: Then great eagerness conquered all the other soldiers of ecstasy, and an uncontrollable desire arose in the kingdom of Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī’s mind. Greatly unhappy, She then chastised Her own mind.

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 17.59

śrīmatīra kṛṣṇaparatantratā —

“mana mora vāma-dīna, jala vinā yena mīna,
kṛṣṇa vinā kṣaṇe mari’ yāya

madhura-hāsya-vadane, mana-netra-rasāyane,
kṛṣṇa-tṛṣṇā dviguṇa bāḍāya

Translation: “If I do not think of Kṛṣṇa, My impoverished mind will die within a moment like a fish out of water. But when I see Kṛṣṇa’s sweetly smiling face, My mind and eyes are so pleased that My desire for Him redoubles.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, this Śrīla Prabhupāda said, to read the Bhagavad-gītā and other books, and get the Bhakti-śāstrī degree. First, six cantos of the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam are Bhakti-vaibhava. The second six cantos are Bhakti-vedānta. And then, the Caitanya-caritāmṛta and other books about Lord Caitanya are the Bhakti-Sārvabhauma. So, this is the end of Caitanya-caritāmṛta. These are very confidential things. Lord Caitanya would not expose these even to His devotees when they came from Bengal. When they went back, then He would experience these ecstasies in the company of Rāmānanda Rāya and Svarūpa Dāmodara Gosvāmī. So it may be a bit esoteric for all of you, but it gives us some insight into the higher levels of kṛṣṇa-prema.

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 17.60

kṛṣṇa-virahe vilāpa:—

hā hā kṛṣṇa prāṇa-dhana, hā hā padma-locana,
hā hā divya sad-guṇa-sāgara!

hā hā śyāma-sundara, hā hā pītāmbara-dhara,
hā hā rāsa-vilāsa nāgara

Translation: “Alas! Where is Kṛṣṇa, the treasure of My life? Where is the lotus-eyed one? Alas! Where is the divine ocean of all transcendental qualities? Alas! Where is the beautiful blackish youth dressed in yellow garments? Alas! Where is the hero of the rāsa dance?

Jayapatākā Swami: One moment, Rādhārāṇī She is saying I want to forget Kṛṣṇa. Next moment, She says where is Kṛṣṇa? She is completely addicted!

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 17.61

virahiṇī rādhāra bhāve prabhura dhāvana:—

kāhāṅ gele tomā pāi, tumi kaha,—tāhāṅ yāi”,
eta kahi’ calilā dhāñā

svarūpa uṭhi’ kole kari’, prabhure ānila dhari’,
nija-sthāne vasāilā laiñā

Translation: “Where shall I go? Where can I find You? Please tell Me. I shall go there.” Speaking in this way, Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu began running. But Svarūpa Dāmodara Gosvāmī stood up, caught Him and took Him on his lap. Then Svarūpa Dāmodara brought Him back to His place and made Him sit down.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, we are experiencing how Lord Caitanya, He was completely absorbed in the mood of Rādhārāṇī, in love of Kṛṣṇa. Now, loving the Supreme Personality of Godhead is actually, very auspicious. And if we love God, that is the perfection of religion. The perfection of life. But most people, they love their country, their community, or something, some people love their dog. We saw some people walking, the dog in the neighborhood. So we have the tendency to love. Because we are part of Kṛṣṇa. He has that loving nature and naturally we have the possibility to love. That is the difference between the AI – Artificial Intelligence, the robots, they don’t love anything. They will try to train them to say new things as if it was love, but the machines they cannot have sentiments, they cannot have love. And that is the nature of the living entity. Because we are part of Kṛṣṇa. He has love, we have love. He is the ocean of love. We have a little bit. Rādhārāṇī, She is the expansion of Kṛṣṇa, She is the pleasure potency. Her quantity of love even bewilders Lord Kṛṣṇa! Hare Kṛṣṇa!

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 17.62

svarūpera ceṣṭāya caitanya-lābha; svarūpera bhāvopayogi-gāna:—

kṣaṇeke prabhura bāhya haila, svarūpere ājñā dila,
”svarūpa, kichu kara madhura gāna”

svarūpa gāya vidyāpati, gīta-govinda-gīti,
śuni’ prabhura juḍāila kāṇa

Translation: Suddenly Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu returned to external consciousness and said to Svarūpa Dāmodara Gosvāmī, “My dear Svarūpa, please sing some sweet songs.” The Lord’s ears were satisfied when He heard Svarūpa Dāmodara sing songs from the Gīta-govinda and those by the poet Vidyāpati.

Jayapatākā Swami: Sometimes Lord Caitanya would come to external consciousness. He would be aware of the things around Him. And sometimes He went into total ecstasy and be thinking of Kṛṣṇa. So when He was in external consciousness, He asked Svarūpa Dāmodara Gosvāmī to sing some sweet songs. And Svarūpa Dāmodara Gosvāmī would sing from the Gītā-govinda and Vidyāpati, the poet, Lord Caitanya became pacified.

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 17.63

prabhura divyonmādādi mahābhāva—marttyabuddhite aparimeya:—

ei-mata mahāprabhu prati-rātri-dine
unmāda ceṣṭita haya pralāpa-vacane

Translation: Each day and night, Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu would become deranged in this way and talk like a madman.

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 17.64

eka-dine yata haya bhāvera vikāra
sahasra-mukhe varṇe yadi, nāhi pāya pāra

Translation: Even Anantadeva, who possesses thousands of mouths, cannot fully describe the ecstatic transformations that Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu experienced in a single day.

Jayapatākā Swami: In other words, Lord Caitanya had so many different manifestations, that even Anantadeva, who had a thousand mouths, He could not explain all of them, what Lord Caitanya does in a single day! Haribol!

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 17.65

jīva dīna ki karibe tāhāra varṇana?
śākhā-candra-nyāya kari’ dig-daraśana

Translation: What can a poor creature like me describe of those transformations? I can give only a hint of them, as if showing the moon through the branches of a tree.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, Kṛṣṇadāsa Kavirāja is expressing his frustration, his limitation, that he can only give a hint of all the ecstasies that Lord Caitanya was going through. So, whatever he is saying, multiplied by millions of times, would give a slight idea.

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 17.66

prabhura divyonmāda-śravaṇe prematattvajñānodaya:—

ihā yei śune, tāra juḍāya mana-kāṇa
alaukika gūḍha-prema-ceṣṭā haya jñāna

Translation: This description, however, will satisfy the mind and ears of anyone who hears it, and he will be able to understand these uncommon activities of deep ecstatic love for Kṛṣṇa.

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 17.67

śrīmatīra bhāve prabhura svayaṁ kṛṣṇapremāsvādana o jīve tadvitaraṇa:—

adbhuta nigūḍha premera mādhurya-mahimā
āpani āsvādi’ prabhu dekhāilā sīmā

Translation: Ecstatic love for Kṛṣṇa is wonderfully deep. By personally tasting the glorious sweetness of that love, Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu showed us its extreme limit.

Jayapatākā Swami: Vāsudeva Ghoṣa, he was singing how Lord Caitanya revealed the mādhurya-rasa, the ecstasy of loving Kṛṣṇa in all the aspects.

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 17.68

mahāvadānya o kṛṣṇaprema-pradātā:—

adbhuta-dayālu caitanya—adbhuta-vadānya!
aiche dayālu dātā loke nāhi śuni anya

Translation: Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu is wonderfully merciful and wonderfully magnanimous. We have heard of no one else within this world so merciful and charitable.

Jayapatākā Swami: Not only did Lord Caitanya give His mercy freely without considering who is qualified and who is not, but He also gives the highest realization of ecstatic love for Kṛṣṇa.

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 17.69

caitanya-bhajanei kṛṣṇapremalābha:—

sarva-bhāve bhaja, loka, caitanya-caraṇa
yāhā haite pāibā kṛṣṇa-premāmṛta-dhana

Translation: O people of the world, worship the lotus feet of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu in all respects. Only in this way will you achieve the nectarean treasure of ecstatic love for Kṛṣṇa.

Jayapatākā Swami: That is why it is so important to worship the lotus feet of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu.

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 17.70

prabhura divyommāda (udghūrṇā o citrajalpa) varṇita:—

ei ta’ kahiluṅ ‘kūrmākṛti’-anubhāva
unmāda-ceṣṭita tāte unmāda-pralāpa

Translation: Thus I have described Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu’s ecstatic transformation of becoming like a tortoise. In that ecstasy, He talked and acted like a madman.

Jayapatākā Swami: All His limbs, like arms and legs, had entered into His body and He looked like a tortoise.

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 17.71

raghunāthakarttṛka sva-granthe prabhulīlā varṇita:—

ei līlā sva-granthe raghunātha-dāsa
gaurāṅga-stava-kalpavṛkṣe kairāchena prakāśa

Translation: Śrīla Raghunātha dāsa Gosvāmī has fully described this pastime in his book Gaurāṅga-stava-kalpavṛkṣa.

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 17.72

stavāvalīte caitanya-stava-kalpavṛkṣa-stave (5)—

Translation: “How wonderful it is! Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu left His residence without opening the three strongly bolted doors. Then He crossed over three high walls, and later, because of strong feelings of separation from Kṛṣṇa, He fell down amidst the cows of the Tailaṅga district and retracted all the limbs of His body like a tortoise. Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu, who appeared in that way, rises in my heart and maddens me.”

Gaurāṅga-līlā-smaraṇa-maṅgala-stotra 90-91 By Śrīla Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura

Translation: May Śacī’s son, staying at Kāśī Miśra’s house, His heart longing in separation from His Lord, very tall because His joints had become loosened, His hands and feet elongated, His body fallen on the ground, His voice choked, and His mind agitated, eternally travel on the path of my memory.

Translation: May Śacī’s son who, gone out from the stone house with its doors still bolted, went among the Kāliṅga cows and fell down, becoming like a turtle because His limbs had contracted, eternally travel on the path of my memory.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, this pastime of Lord Caitanya is explained here by Śrīla Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura. So, through all these explanations, we hope you are able to taste and appreciate some of the greatness of pure love for Kṛṣṇa.

Thus ends the chapter entitled, Phalaśruti – will satisfy the mind and ears and will be able to understand these uncommon activities of deep ecstatic love for Kṛṣṇa
Under the section: The Bodily Transformations of Lord Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu

So we finished this section. I wanted to finish when I was here in Dallas.

So even though Kṛṣṇadāsa Kavirāja said that he was not able to explain, he had just given a hint, even Anantadeva, with thousands of mouths, could not explain all the emotions all the ecstasies that Lord Caitanya experienced in one day. So, we can only hear and appreciate how Lord Caitanya was experiencing something very great. And, if we chant Hare Kṛṣṇa, serve Kṛṣṇa, then gradually we can awaken some degree of love for Kṛṣṇa.

Hare Kṛṣṇa!
