Introduction: Today we are continuing reading for the compilation of Caitanya līlā book, the chapter entitled is:

Under the section: The Pastimes of Nityānanda

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.496

tabe advaitera sthāne lai’ anumati
nityānanda āilena navadvīpa-prati

Jayapatākā Swami: Thereafter Lord Nityānanda took permission from Advaita Ācārya and came to Navadvīpa dhāma.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.497

śrī-nityānandera navadvīpe śacīmātāra samīpe āgamana o praṇati—

sei-mate sarvādye āilā āi-sthāne
āsi’ namaskarilena āira caraṇe

Jayapatākā Swami: In this way, Lord Nityananda went first to the house of Mother Śacī and He offered obeisances at her Lotus feet.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.498

‘āi’ra ānanda o ukti—

nityānanda-svarūpere dekhi’ śacī-āi
ki ānanda pāilena—tāra anta nāi

Jayapatākā Swami: On seeing Nityānanda Svarūpa, mother Śacī's happiness was boundless.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.499

āi bale,—“bāpa, tumi satya antaryāmī
tomāre dekhite icchā karilāṅa āmi

Jayapatākā Swami: Mother Śacī said, “My dear son, You are certainly the Supersoul, for I desired to see You.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.500

mora citta jāni’ tumi āilā satvara
ke tomā cinite pāre saṁsāra-bhitara

Jayapatākā Swami: “Realizing my desire, You came quickly here. Who within this world can understand You?

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.501

kata-dina thāka bāpa, navadvīpa-vāse
yena tomā dekhoṅ muñi daśe pakṣe māse

Jayapatākā Swami: “My dear son, stay here in Navadvīpa for some days, so that I can see You every ten, fifteen, or thirty days.

Purport: The phrase daśe pakṣe māse means “after ten days, after fifteen days, or after a month.”

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.502

muñi duḥkhinīra icchā tomāre dekhite
daive tumi āsiyācha duḥkhitā tārite”

Jayapatākā Swami: “I was distressed and my desire was to see You. Now by the arrangement of providence You have come to remove my distress.”

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.503

śuniyā āira vākya hāse nityānanda
ye jāne āira prabhāvera ādi-anta

Jayapatākā Swami: On hearing mother Śacī's words, Lord Nityānanda laughed, for He knew the beginning and end of mother Śacī’s influence.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.504

nityānandera pratyuttara—

nityānanda bale,—“śuna āi, sarva-mātātomāre
dekhite muñi āsiyachoṅ hethā

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Nityānanda said, “Listen, Mother Śacī, O mother of all! I have come here to see you.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.505

mora baḍa icchā tomā dekhite hethāya
rahilāṅa navadvīpe tomāra ājñāya”

Jayapatākā Swami: “I had a great desire to see you here. Therefore on your order I will remain here in Navadvīpa.”

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.506

navadvīpe sapārṣada nityānandera kīrtana-vihāra—

hena-mate nityānanda āi sambhāṣiyā
navadvīpe bhramena ānanda-yukta haiyā

Jayapatākā Swami: In this way Lord Nityānanda discussed favorably with Mother Śacī in, Lord Nityānanda wandered in Navadvīpa filled with happiness.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.507

navadvīpe nityānanda prati-ghare ghare
saba-pāriṣada-saṅge kīrtana vihare

Jayapatākā Swami: In Navadvīpa Lord Nityānanda enjoyed kīrtana pastimes with all of His associates going from house to house.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.508

navadvīpe āsi’ prabhuvara-nityānanda
hailena kīrtane ānanda mūrtimanta

Jayapatākā Swami: Going from house to house Lord Nityānanda along with His associates enjoyed performing saṅkīrtana without any stop.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.509

prati-ghare ghare saba pāriṣada-saṅge
niravadhi viharena saṅkīrtana-raṅge

Jayapatākā Swami: After arriving in Navadvīpa, the best of the Lords, Lord Nityānanda Prabhu became the personification of happiness in the kīrtana.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.510

śrī-nityānandera saṅkīrtana-mallaveśa—

parama mohana saṅkīrtana-malla-veśa
dekhite sukṛti pāya ānanda-viśeṣa

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Nityānanda is most greatly attracted in the sankirtna wrestler's dress and by seeing Him the pious people obtained special happiness.

Purport: Pious persons became especially pleased on seeing Śrī Nityānanda Prabhu’s enthusiasm for saṅkīrtana.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.511

śrī-mastake śobhe bahuvidha paṭṭa-vāsa
tad-upari bahuvidha mālyera vilāsa

Jayapatākā Swami: His divine head was decorated with various fine silk cloths, upon which was various flower garlands were placed.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.512

kaṇṭhe bahuvidha maṇi-muktā-svarṇa-hāra
śrutimūle śobhe muktā kāñcana apāra

Jayapatākā Swami: Around Lord Nityānanda’s neck He wore varieties of necklaces made of jewels, pearls, and gold. His lotus ears were adorned with gold earrings set with pearls.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.513

suvarṇera aṅgada balaya śobhe kare
na jāni kateka mālāśobhe kalevare

Jayapatākā Swami: Adorned on His arms, it cannot be calculated how many mālās shone ruby on His body.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.514

gorocanā-candane lepita sarva-aṅga
niravadhi bāla-gopālera prāya raṅga

Jayapatākā Swami: His entire body was smeared with sandalwood pulp mixed with gorocana. He constantly sported like a cowherd boy.

Gorocana is a kind od perfume comes from the cows stomach and is very rare, it is one of thing that we bath Narasimhadeva on Narasiṁha Caturdasi called aṣṭa gandha, oe of the eight ingredients is gorocana.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.515

ki apūrva lauha-daṇḍa dharena līlāya
pūrṇa daśa-aṅguli suvarṇa-mudrikāya

Jayapatākā Swami: What a wonderful iron staff He held playfully, and all  His ten fingers were all filled with gold rings.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.516

śukla, nīla, pīta—bahuvidhi paṭṭa-vāsa
parama vicitra paridhānera vilāsa

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Nityānanda was adorned with luxurious silken cloth, some blue some white, and some yellow and He was supremely decorated by greatly amazing attires.

So, Lord Caitanya had taken the āśrama of sannyāsa so He was dressing very austerely. But He told Lord Nityānanda to dress like a cowherd boy and Lord Nityānanda was thus decorated with silken cloths and jewelries. Lord Nityānanda appearance day Nityānanda Trayodaśī in Māyāpur they decorated Lord Nityānanda with various attires.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.517

vetra, vaṁśī, pācanī jaṭhara-paṭe śobhe
yāra daraśana dhyāna jaga-manolobhe

Jayapatākā Swami: He had a cane flute and bamboo stick tucked in His waist belt, by seeing or remembering Him the minds of everyone in the world became enchanted as if in meditation.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.518

rajata-nūpura-malla śobhe śrī-caraṇe
parama madhura-dhvani, gajendra-gamane

Jayapatākā Swami: His lotus feet were decorated with silver ankle bells and bands, which produced greatly sweet sounds as Lord Nityānanda moved like the king of elephants.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.519

ye-dike cāhena prabhuvara nityānanda
sei-dike haya kṛṣṇa-rasa mūrtimanta

Jayapatākā Swami: In whichever direction Lord Nityānanda, the best of the Lords, glanced, that direction became filled with the personification of the mellows of love for Kṛṣṇa.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.520

śrīdhāma-māyāpure śrī-nityānandera vilāsa—

hena-mate nityānanda parama-kautuke
āchena caitanya-janma-bhūmi navadvīpe

Jayapatākā Swami: In this way Lord Nityānanda in great excitement, He resided in Navadvīpa dhāma, the birthplace of Lord Caitanya.

Purport: The birthplace of Śrī Caitanyadeva is Navadvīpa. That particular portion of Navadvīpa is known as Śrīdhāma Māyāpur.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.521

mathurā-rājadhānīra nyāya śrīdhāma-māyāpura-navadvīpa—

navadvīpa—yehena mathurā-rāja
dhānīkata mata loka āche, anta nāhi jāni

Jayapatākā Swami: Śrīdhāma Māyāpur - Navadvīpa is just like the capital city of Mathurā. There was no limit as to how many people lived there.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.522

tathāya sujanera vāsera nyāya asaṁkhya durjanerao vāsa—

hena saba sujana āchena, yāhā dekhi’
sarva mahāpāpa haite mukta haya pāpī

Jayapatākā Swami: There were so many pious people there, that simply by seeing them, sinful people get liberated from all kinds of sinful reactions.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.523

tathi madhye durjana ye kata kata vaise
sarva-dharma ghuce tāra chāyāra paraśe

Jayapatākā Swami: Amongst them many sinful people also lived there. Simply by touching their shadows, all one’s religious principles would be destroyed.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.524

durjanerao nityānanda-kṛpāya kṛṣṇe ratimati lābha—

tāhārāo nityānanda-prabhura kṛpāya
kṛṣṇa-pathe rata haila ati āmāyāya

Jayapatākā Swami: Yet by the mercy of Nityānanda Prabhu they were also amazingly brought back to the path of Kṛṣṇa consciousness.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.525

caitanyera svayaṁ evaṁ tāṅhāra svayaṁprakāśa nityānandera dvārā tribhuvana-uddhāra —

āpane caitanya kata karilā mocana
nityānanda-dvāre uddhārilā tribhuvana

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Caitanya personally delivered many living entities, and through Lord Nityānanda, He delivered the three worlds.

Lord Caitanya told Lord Nityānanda now We came to deliver the foolish, the low-born, the fallen and the distressed, You go back to Bengal, We should not both stay here. Thus, Lord Nityānanda on the order of Lord Caitanya went back to Bengal and continued the saṅkīrtana movement.
