Jayapatākā Swami: In the dead of the night, when everyone was asleep, at that time, the dacoits surrounded the house.

They were ready to attack Lord Nityānanda and steal His jewels and then they were all ready for that.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.571

catur-dike aneka pāike bāḍī rākhe

Jayapatākā Swami: The dacoits stayed near the house and saw that all around many infantrymen protected the house.

So, the dacoits were very frustrated, they saw that all around the house there were soldiers.

Purport (By His Divine Grace Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura Śrīla Prabhupāda):  The word pāika means “infantry,” and the word rākhe means “protects.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.572

bahu astradhārī padātika-darśane dasyugaṇera vismaya o paraspara nānāprakāra anumāna-ukti, tathā nityānanda-prabhāva-kīrtana—

catur-dike astradhārī padātika-gaṇa
niravadhi hari-nāma karena grahaṇa

Jayapatākā Swami: On all four sides, the armed infantrymen, constantly chanting the Harināma were guarding the house.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.573

parama prakāṇḍa-mūrti—sabei uddaṇḍa
nānā-astradhārī sabe—parama pracaṇḍa

Jayapatākā Swami: The armed soldiers had large, powerful bodies and everyone was formidable, being equipped with various weapons that were very fierce.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.574

sarva-dasyu-gaṇa dekhe tāra eko-jane
śata-jano mārite pāraye sei-kṣaṇe

Jayapatākā Swami: All the dacoits could see that each of those infantrymen was powerful enough to kill hundreds of people in a moment.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.575

sabāra galāya mālā, sarvāṅge candana
niravadhi kariteche nāma-saṅkīrtana

Jayapatākā Swami: Everyone, the soldiers had neck beads and they were wearing sandalwood pulp and constantly they were chanting the Harināma.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.576

nityānanda-prabhuvara āchena śayane
catur-dike ‘kṛṣṇa’ gāya sei saba gaṇe

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Nityānanda Prabhu was sleeping when all these infantrymen chanted the holy name of Kṛṣṇa in the four directions around the house.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.577

dasyu-gaṇa dekhi’ baḍa hailā vismita
bāḍī chāḍi’ sabe vasilena eka bhita

Jayapatākā Swami: The dacoits, on seeing the situation, were struck with wonder, they left and went away from the house and sat down together.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.578

sarva-dasyu-gaṇe yukti lāgilā karite
“kothākāra padātika āila ethāte”

Jayapatākā Swami: Then all the dacoits began to discuss among themselves, “Where have all these armed soldiers come from?”

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.579

keha bale,—“avadhūta ke-mate jāniyā
kāhāra pāika āniñāchaye māgiyā”

Jayapatākā Swami: One dacoit said, “The Avadhūta Lord Nityānanda, must have somehow understood our plan and borrowed these soldiers from someone.”

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.580

keha bale,—“bhāi, avadhūta baḍa ‘jñānī’
mājhe mājhe aneka lokera mukhe śuni

Jayapatākā Swami: Another said, “O brothers, “O brothers, I have heard this Avadhūta is a very knowledgeable person. From many peoples' mouths I have heard that this Avadhūta is very knowledgeable."

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.581

jñānavān baḍa avadhūta mahāśaya
āpanāra rakṣā kibā āpane karaya

Jayapatākā Swami: “This Avadhūta Mahāśaya is so knowledgeable that He arranges for His own protection.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.582

Don’t mess with Lord Nityānanda!

anyathā ye saba dekhi padātika-gaṇa
manuṣyera mata nāhi dekhi eka jana

Jayapatākā Swami: “Whatever foot soldiers I saw didn’t appear like human beings, not even one of them.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.583

hena bujhi—ei saba śaktira prabhāve
‘gosāñi’ kariyā tāne kahe sabe”

Jayapatākā Swami: “Ah! therefore it is understandable that because He had such great influence, everyone calls Him as Gosāñī."

Nitāi Gosāñi!

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.584

āra keha bale,—“tumi abudha ye bhāi!
ye khāya ye pare se vā ke-mata gosāñi”

Jayapatākā Swami: Someone else said, “O brother, you are stupid, He eats and dresses, How can He be a Gosāñī?”

Purport (By His Divine Grace Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura Śrīla Prabhupāda): How can one who feasts and decorates himself with cloth and ornaments be called a self-controlled person?

Jayapatākā Swami: You see Lord Nityānanda He would wear opulent dresses and ornaments because that was the instruction of Lord Caitanya. So, His transcendental opulence is not understandable by ordinary people.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.585

sakala dasyura senāpati ye brāhmaṇa
se balaye,—“jānilāṅa sakala karāṇa

Jayapatākā Swami: Now the sinful brāhmaṇa, the leader of all the dacoits, he said, “I know the reason behind.”

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.586

yata baḍa baḍa loka cāri-dik haite
sabei āisena avadhūtera dekhite

Jayapatākā Swami: “All big big people from everywhere have come to see this Avadhūta.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.587

kona dik haite kona rājāra laskara
āsiyāche, tāra padātika bahutara

Jayapatākā Swami: “From some direction, one king’s military commander has come and He has brought many soldiers with him.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.588

ataeva padātika sakala bhāvaka
ei se kāraṇe ‘hari hari’ kare japa

Jayapatākā Swami: “Therefore, all the soldiers are sentimental, and for this reason they chant, ‘Hari, Hari’ and do the japa.

Purport (By His Divine Grace Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura Śrīla Prabhupāda): The word bhāvaka is generally spelled bhāvuka, which means “sentimental.”

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.589

padātikagaṇake eḍāibāra uddeśye antataḥ 10 dina gharera bāhira nā haibāra janya dasyudalapatira yukti—

ebā nahe, kona padātika āni thāke
tabe kata dina eḍāiba ei pāke

Jayapatākā Swami: “If this is not so, how come the foot soldiers are patrolling.? But how many days can we spend time escaping their attention in this way?

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.590

ataeva cala sabe āji ghare yāi
cupe cāpe dina daśa vasi’ thāki bhāi

Jayapatākā Swami: “Therefore, let us all go home today, O my dear brothers, we will wait quietly for about ten days and see what happens.”

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.591

eta bali’ dasyu-gaṇa gela nija-ghare
avadhūta-candra prabhu svacchande vihare

Jayapatākā Swami: Having said this, the dacoits returned to their homes. Avadhūta-candra Prabhu, (Nitāi) He enjoyed His pastimes.
