Hariḥ oṁ tat sat!

Hare Kṛṣṇa! Dear Devotees! Today we will continue with the compilation of Śrī Kṛṣṇa Caitanya Book. Today's chapter is entitled as:

Phalaśruti – The Result of Hearing About the Appearance of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu
Under the section: The Chastisement of Junior Haridāsa

Caitanya Candrodaya Nāṭaka 9.38

Translation: The next day Nṛsiṁhānanda arose at dawn, bathed, and being very pure and clean, as per his wish cooked Lord Caitanya’s favorite foods sufficiently. When the cooking was completed, at the same time, he divided it in three parts for His Deities of Lord Caitanya, Lord Jagannātha and Lord Nṛsiṁha. After he had offered the food to the three Deities, he left the Deity room. He then closed his eyes in meditation and saw Lord Caitanya eat all three offerings. At that moment Nṛsiṁhānanda became greatly blissful and tears flowed from his eyes.

Haribol! Filled with the anger of love, he then loudly said in objection to the Lord, “Well done! Oh well done! You are one with Jagannātha, so You may eat His offering, but why do You eat the food I offered to Lord Nṛsiṁha? I have made my Nṛsiṁha to fast today!” Then he began to cry loudly. Śivānanda approached him and said, “My Master, why do you cry out?”

Caitanya Candrodaya Nāṭaka 9.39

Woman: Then? Then?

Jayapatākā Swami: So, Nṛsiṁhānanda Brahmacārī he could bring the Lord through his meditation, and when he saw Lord Caitanya ate all the offerings then he said why did You eat my Naṛsiṁha offering? This is how Nṛsiṁhānanda Brahmacārī had a very intimate loving relationship with Lord Caitanya, Lord Jagannātha and Lord Naṛsiṁhadeva.

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 2.59

pradyumnera randhana evaṁ prabhu, jagannātha o sveṣṭadeva nṛsiṁha, pratyekera janya tinaṭī pṛthak naivedya-bhogasajjāḥ—

prātaḥ-kāla haite pāka karilā apāra
nānā vyañjana, piṭhā, kṣīra nānā upahāra

Translation: Beginning early in the morning, Nṛsiṁhānanda Brahmacārī cooked many varieties of food, including vegetables, cakes, sweet rice and other preparations.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, Nṛsiṁhānanda Brahmacārī who was given that name by Lord Caitanya originally had the name Pradyumna Brahmacārī but then Lord Caitanya gave him the name Nṛsiṁhānanda Brahmacārī. So he cooked for his three Deities.

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 2.60

jagannāthera bhinna bhoga pṛthak bāḍila
caitanya prabhura lāgi’ āra bhoga kaila

Translation: After he finished cooking, he brought separate dishes for Jagannātha and Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu.

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 2.61

iṣṭa-deva nṛsiṁha lāgi’ pṛthak bāḍila
tina-jane samarpiyā bāhire dhyāna kaila

Translation: He also separately offered dishes to Nṛsiṁhadeva, his worshipable Deity. Thus he divided all the food into three offerings. Then, outside the temple, he began to meditate upon the Lord.

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 2.62

brahmacārīra dhyāne ‘āvirbhūta’ prabhura naivedyatraya-bhakṣaṇaḥ—

dekhe, śīghra āsi’ vasilā caitanya-gosāñi
tina bhoga khāilā, kichu avaśiṣṭa nāi

Translation: In his meditation he saw Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu quickly come, sit down and eat all three offerings, leaving behind no remnants.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, Nṛsiṁhānanda Brahmacārī in his meditation, he saw Lord Caitanya eating all the three offerings.

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 2.63

taddarśane pradyumnera antare ānanda, bāhye duḥkhābhāsaḥ—

ānande vihvala pradyumna, paḍe aśru-dhāra
“hāhā kibā kara” bali’ karaye phutkāra

Translation: Pradyumna Brahmacārī was overwhelmed by transcendental ecstasy upon seeing Caitanya Mahāprabhu eating everything. Thus tears flowed from his eyes. Nevertheless, he expressed dismay, saying, “Alas, alas! My dear Lord, what are You doing? You are eating everyone’s food!

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 2.64

prabhura prati pradyumnera anuyoga; svīya iṣṭadeva-nṛsiṁhe niṣṭhā :—

‘jagannāthe-tomāya aikya, khāo tāṅra bhoga
nṛsiṁhera bhoga kene kara upayoga?

Translation: “My dear Lord, You are one with Jagannātha; therefore I have no objection to Your eating His offering. But why are You touching the offering for Lord Nṛsiṁhadeva?

Jayapatākā Swami: So, Nṛsiṁhānanda Brahmacārī he was seeing the Lord when he expressed these things according to His realization. Others were wondering why he was talking and crying!

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 2.65

nṛsiṁhera haila jāni āji upavāsa
ṭhākura upavāsī rahe, jiye kaiche dāsa?’

Translation: “I think that Nṛsiṁhadeva could not eat anything today, and therefore He is fasting. If the master fasts, how can the servant live?”

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 2.66

bhojana dekhi’ yadyapi tāṅra hṛdaye ullāsa
nṛsiṁha lakṣya kari’ bāhye kichu kare duḥkhābhāsa

Translation: Although Nṛsiṁha Brahmacārī felt jubilation within his heart to see Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu eating everything, for the sake of Lord Nṛsiṁhadeva he externally expressed disappointment.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, Nṛsiṁhānanda Brahmacārī was feeling ecstasy that the Lord ate all the offerings, but he objected externally that nothing was left for Lord Nṛsiṁhadeva. So, Nṛsiṁhānanda Brahmacārī is going to understand how the Lord is giving him mercy.

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 2.67

bhogatrayānna-bhojana-līlādvārā prabhura pradyumnake sarva-viṣṇu-tattvasaha svīya abheda vā aikya-pradarśanaḥ—

svayaṁ bhagavān kṛṣṇa-caitanya-gosāñi
jagannātha-nṛsiṁha-saha kichu bheda nāi

Translation: Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu is the Supreme Personality of Godhead Himself. Therefore there is no difference between Him, Lord Jagannātha and Lord Nṛsiṁhadeva.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, Nṛsiṁhānanda Brahmacārī was thinking that Nṛsiṁhadeva was different, but actually all the Viṣṇu-tattva are expansions of Śrī Kṛṣṇa Caitanya and therefore if He takes Narasiṁhadeva's offering there is no difference from Lord Narasiṁhadeva, He also gets the benefit.

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 2.68

ihā jānibāre pradyumnera gūḍha haita mana
tāhā dekhāilā prabhu kariyā bhojana

Translation: Pradyumna Brahmacārī was deeply eager to understand this fact. Therefore, Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu revealed it to him by a practical demonstration.

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 2.69

bhojanānte prabhura pāṇihāṭistha rāghava-bhavane nityāvasthāna-nimitta gamanaḥ—

bhojana kariyā prabhu gelā pāṇihāṭi
santoṣa pāilā dekhi’ vyañjana-paripāṭī

Translation: After eating all the offerings, Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu started for Pāṇihāṭi. There, He was greatly satisfied to see the different varieties of vegetables prepared in the house of Rāghava.

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Caitanya reside eternally in four places, one of those places is Rāghava Paṇḍita’s place in Pānihāṭi.

Haribol!

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 2.70

śivānandakarttṛka brahmacārīra duḥkhita-bhāvera kāraṇa-jijñāsā o brahmacārīra sarvavṛttāntavarṇanaḥ—

śivānanda kahe,—‘kene karaha phutkāra?’
teṅha kahe,—“dekha tomāra prabhura vyavahāra

Translation: Śivānanda said to Nṛsiṁhānanda, “Why are you expressing dismay?”

Nṛsiṁhānanda replied, “Just see the behavior of your Lord Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu.

Caitanya Candrodaya Nāṭaka 9.40

Man: Nṛsiṁhānanda then replied: “Your Caitanya Gosvāmī ate all three offerings and left Lord Nṛsiṁhadeva to fast.”

Caitanya Candrodaya Nāṭaka 9.41

Woman: Then? Then?

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 2.71

tina janāra bhoga teṅho ekelā khāilā
jagannātha-nṛsiṁha upavāsī ha-ilā”

Translation: “He alone has eaten the offerings for all three Deities. Because of this, both Jagannātha and Nṛsiṁhadeva remain fasting.”

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 2.72

śivānandera sandehaḥ—

śuni śivānandera citte ha-ila saṁśaya
kibā premāveśe kahe, kibā satya haya

Translation: When Śivānanda Sena heard this statement, he was unsure whether Nṛsiṁhānanda Brahmacārī was speaking that way because of ecstatic love or because it was actually a fact.

Jayapatākā Swami: Since these things were experienced by Nṛsiṁhānanda Brahmacārī and not by Śivānanda Sena, Śivānanda Sena wondered or doubted whether Nṛsiṁhānanda is just speaking out of ecstatic love or these things actually happened. Of course, the truth will be revealed.

Caitanya Candrodaya Nāṭaka 9.42

Man: Then Śivānanda said to him, “Please arrange another bhoga offering for Lord Nṛsiṁha.” When Nṛsiṁhānanda did that, and became happy, then a doubt arose in the mind of Śivānanda, “Is Nṛsiṁhānanda speaking that way because of ecstatic love or is it actually a fact?” In another year Śivānanda went to Puruṣottama-kṣetra and went near Lord Caitanya. When discussing about the topic of the greatness of Nṛsiṁhānanda, incidentally Lord Caitanya praised him and specifically mentioned his excellent cooking. Those present doubted that. Then the Lord said, “I had gone last year in the month of Pauṣa (December) and accepting his meal and there I came to know how expert he was in the art of cooking.” When everyone heard this, they again doubted, but Śivānanda became doubtless. In this way I have described the three ways the Lord shows His mercy.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, the Lord Caitanya appears by His personal appearance, He goes in the heart of a pure devotee as āveśa and He is present in some places as His āvirbhāva. So this presence of Lord Caitanya to accept the offerings of Nṛsiṁhānanda Brahmacārī and then went to reside in Rāghava Paṇḍita’s house in Pānihāṭi are examples of His āvirbhāva. So it would be so fortunate to have Lord Caitanya visit Mathurādeśa!

Haribol!

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 2.73

śivānandake śrī-nṛsiṁha-bhogodyogārtha ādeśaḥ—

tabe śivānande kichu kahe brahmacārī
‘sāmagrī āna nṛsiṁha lāgi punaḥ pāka kari’

Translation: When Śivānanda Sena was thus perplexed, Nṛsiṁhānanda Brahmacārī said to him, “Bring more food. Let me cook again for Lord Nṛsiṁhadeva.”

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 2.74

nṛsiṁhake punaḥ bhogasamarpaṇaḥ—

tabe śivānanda bhoga-sāmagrī ānilā
pāka kari’ nṛsiṁhera bhoga lāgāilā

Translation: Then Śivānanda Sena again brought the ingredients with which to cook, and Pradyumna Brahmacārī again cooked and offered the food to Nṛsiṁhadeva.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, in this particular chapter, the Caitanya Candrodaya Nāṭaka and the Caitanya-caritāmṛta have said something, so the two will be combined in the final text. The ten different literatures sometimes, the ten are speaking about some pastimes, sometimes one, two or three different things.

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 2.75

paravarttī varṣāya gauḍīya bhaktagaṇera purī-gamanaḥ—

varṣāntare śivānanda lañā bhakta-gaṇa
nīlācale dekhe yāñā prabhura caraṇa

Translation: The next year, Śivānanda went to Jagannātha Purī with all the other devotees to see the lotus feet of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, for one year they didn’t go to Jagannātha Purī on Lord Caitanya's request and in this year, He revealed His āvirbhāva aspect in the month of Pauṣa, December-January. Next year before the rainy season the Gauḍīya devotees went to Jagannātha Purī to see the lotus feet of Lord Caitanya.

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 2.76

ekadina prabhukarttṛka nṛsiṁhānandera pūrvokta bhojana-vṛttānta-varṇanaḥ—

eka-dina sabhāte prabhu bāta cālāilā
nṛsiṁhānandera guṇa kahite lāgilā

Translation: One day, in the presence of all the devotees, the Lord raised these topics concerning Nṛsiṁhānanda Brahmacārī and praised his transcendental qualities.

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 2.77

‘gata-varṣa pauṣe more karāila bhojana
kabhu nāhi khāi aiche miṣṭānna-vyañjana’

Translation: The Lord said, “Last year in the month of Pauṣa, when Nṛsiṁhānanda gave Me varieties of sweetmeats and vegetables to eat, they were so good that I felt I had never before eaten such preparations.”

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 2.78

prabhuvākye śivānandera pūrva-sandeha-bhañjanaḥ—

śuni’ bhakta-gaṇa mane āścarya manila
śivānandera mane tabe pratyaya janmila

Translation: Hearing this, all the devotees were struck with wonder, and Śivānanda became confident that the incident was true.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, because Lord Caitanya referred to this incident Himself, Śivānanda Sena was confident that it was true.

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 2.79

sthānacatuṣṭaye prabhura nityāvirbhāva’ —

ei-mata śacī-gṛhe satata bhojana
śrīvāsera gṛhe karena kīrtana-darśana

Translation: In this way Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu used to eat at the temple of Śacīmātā every day and also visit the house of Śrīvāsa Ṭhākura when kīrtana was performed.

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Caitanya would visit Śacīmātā and take her prasāda every day and He would be present at the house of Śrīvāsa whenever he performed kīrtana so these are His āvirbhāva, He is present at these times at these places.

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 2.80

nityānandera nṛtya dekhena āsi’ bāre bare
‘nirantara āvirbhāva’ rāghavera ghare

Translation: Similarly, He was always present when Nityānanda Prabhu danced, and He regularly appeared at the house of Rāghava.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, whenever Nityānanda Prabhu would dance it was so special that Lord Caitanya would appear there. How many of would like to be there present ??

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 2.81

bhakta-premavaśa gaurasundaraḥ—

prema-vaśa gaura-prabhu, yāhāṅ premottama
prema-vaśa hañā tāhā dena daraśana

Translation: Lord Gaurasundara is greatly influenced by the love of His devotees. Therefore wherever there is pure devotion to the Lord, the Lord Himself, subdued by such love, appears, and His devotees see Him.

Jayapatākā Swami: Śrīla Prabhupāda he said that Nitāi-Gaura were present at the Rath yātrā in San Franscico, he was seeing Them, and he asked others if they have seen!

? Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 2.82

śivānandera anirvacanīya gaurapremaḥ—

śivānandera prema-sīmā ke kahite pāre?
yāṅra preme vaśa prabhu āise bāre bāre

Translation: Influenced by the loving affairs of Śivānanda Sena, Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu came again and again. Therefore who can estimate the limits of his love?

Jayapatākā Swami: So, Śivānanda Sena had so much love for Lord Caitanya that Lord Caitanya would appear in āvirbhāva form again and again because of the great love of Śivānanda Sena.

Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Antya-līlā, 2.83

gaurāvirbhāva-śravaṇe kṛṣṇa-caitanya-mahimāvagatiḥ—

ei ta’ kahilu gaurera ‘āvirbhāva’
ihā yei śune, jāne caitanya-prabhāva

Translation: Thus, I have described the appearance of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu. Anyone who hears about these incidents can understand the transcendental opulence of the Lord.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, hearing these pastimes gives a special blessing to the devotees, we can understand how Lord Caitanya has unlimited opulences and how by pure love He could appear in any place He wanted. Actually, Śrīla Prabhupāda was saying sometimes there were times in the temple when they were chanting in New York and Lord Caitanya or Nārada Muni would appear there and would watch how the yavanas were chanting!

Haribol! Śrīla Gurumahārāja Ki! Jay!

Thus ends the chapter entitled,
