The following is a Śrī Kṛṣṇa Caitanya Book Compilation given by His Holiness Jayapatākā Swami Mahārāja on October 15th, 2021 in Śrī Dhāma Māyāpur, India

mūkaṁ karoti vācālaṁ paṅguṁ laṅghayate girim
yat-kṛpā tam ahaṁ vande śrī-guruṁ dīna-tāraṇam
paramānandaṁ mādhavaṁ śrī caitanya iśvaram
Hariḥ oṁ tat sat!

Today is the compilation of the Śrī Kṛṣṇa Caitanya Book, and the chapter today is entitled:

Rūpa Gosvāmī and Śrī Vallabha Approach Lord Caitanya

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 19.31

śrī-rūpake sei dūtadvayera prabhura vṛndāvana-yātrā vārttā-dāna:—

tabe sei dui cara rūpa-ṭhāñi āila
‘vṛndāvana calilā prabhu’—āsiyā kahila

Translation: The two persons who went to Jagannātha Purī to inquire about the Lord’s departure returned and informed Rūpa Gosvāmī that the Lord had already departed for Vṛndāvana.

Jayapatākā Swami: Hearing this news Rūpa Gosvāmī made his plans.

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 19.32

sanātanake patre rūpera sānuja prabhu-darśanārtha yātrā-saṁvāda-jñāpana, o tāṅhāke ye-kona upāye caliyā āsite āhvāna:—

śuniyā śrī-rūpa likhila sanātana-ṭhāñi
‘vṛndāvana calilā śrī-caitanya-gosāñi

Translation: Upon receiving this message from his two messengers, Rūpa Gosvāmī immediately wrote a letter to Sanātana Gosvāmī saying that Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu had departed for Vṛndāvana.

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 19.33

āmi-dui-bhāi calilāṅa tāṅhāre milite
tumi yaiche taiche chuṭi’ āisa tāhāṅ haite

Translation: In his letter to Sanātana Gosvāmī, Śrīla Rūpa Gosvāmī wrote, “We two brothers are starting out to go see Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu. You must also somehow or other get released and come meet us.”

Purport: The two brothers herein mentioned are Rūpa Gosvāmī and his younger brother, Anupama Mallika. Rūpa Gosvāmī was informing Sanātana Gosvāmī that he should join him and his younger brother.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, Rūpa and Anupama heard the message of Lord Caitanya leaving from Vṛndāvana, immediately left and went towards Vṛndāvana to meet Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu.

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 19.34

gauḍe rakṣita 10,000 mudrā sāhāyye vandhana-mocana karite yukti-dāna:—

daśa-sahasra mudrā tathā āche mudi-sthāne
tāhā diyā kara śīghra ātma-vimocane

Translation: Rūpa Gosvāmī further informed Śrīla Sanātana Gosvāmī: “I have left a deposit of ten thousand coins with the grocer. Use that money to get out of prison.

Jayapatākā Swami: Since Rūpa Gosvāmī gave 50% to the service of Vaiṣṇavas, 25% for his family members and 25% for emergency, he informed Sanātana Gosvāmī that 10,000 coins were left with the grocer. He could use that to get free.

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 19.35

yaiche taiche chuṭi’ tumi āisa vṛndāvana’
eta likhi’ dui-bhāi karilā gamana

Translation: “Somehow or other get yourself released and come to Vṛndāvana.” After writing this, the two brothers [Rūpa Gosvāmī and Anupama] went to see Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, the money he left with the grocer Sanātana used to get released and the two brothers, Rupa and Anupama went to see Lord Caitanya.

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 19.36

anupamera paricaya:—

anupama mallika, tāṅra nāma—‘śrī-vallabha’
rūpa-gosāñira choṭa-bhāi—parama-vaiṣṇava

Translation: Rūpa Gosvāmī’s younger brother was a great devotee whose actual name was Śrī Vallabha, but he was given the name Anupama Mallika.

Jayapatākā Swami: Śrī Vallabha was given the Muslim name Anupama Mallika, but he was actually the pure devotee of the Lord.

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 19.37

bhrātṛdvayera prayāge āgamana o tathāya prabhura avasthiti-śravaṇe ānanda:—

tāṅhā lañā rūpa-gosāñi prayāge āilā
mahāprabhu tāhāṅ śuni’ ānandita hailā

Translation: Śrī Rūpa Gosvāmī and Anupama Mallika went to Prayāga, and they were very pleased to hear the news that Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu was there.

Jayapatākā Swami: Since Rūpa Gosvāmī and Anupama went to meet Lord Caitanya in Vṛndāvana, they were happy to hear that He had now come to Prayāga so that they could meet Him here.

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 19.38

prayāge prabhura bindumādhava-darśana o loka-saṁghaṭṭa:—

prabhu caliyāchena bindu-mādhava-daraśane
lakṣa lakṣa loka āise prabhura milane

Translation: At Prayāga, Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu went to see the temple of Bindu Mādhava, and many hundreds of thousands of people followed Him just to meet Him.

Jayapatākā Swami: This temple of Bindu-Mādhava is a very ancient temple, the ghāṭa by the temple is known as Daśāśvamedha-ghāṭa because ten horse sacrifices were performed there.

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 19.39

keha kānde, keha hāse, keha nāce, gāya
‘kṛṣṇa’ ‘kṛṣṇa’ bali’ keha gaḍāgaḍi yāya

Translation: Some of the people following the Lord were crying. Some were laughing, some dancing and some chanting. Indeed, some of them were rolling on the ground, exclaiming “Kṛṣṇa!” “Kṛṣṇa!”

Jayapatākā Swami: Seeing Lord Caitanya had this effect on people that immediately they felt ecstasy in love of Kṛṣṇa, it manifested as crying, laughing and rolling on the ground, chanting the holy names of Kṛṣṇa.

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 19.40

premavanyāya prayāga nimagna:—

gaṅgā-yamunā prayāga nārila ḍubāite
prabhu ḍubāila kṛṣṇa-premera vanyāte

Translation: Prayāga is located at the confluence of two rivers — the Ganges and the Yamunā. Although these rivers were not able to flood Prayāga with water, Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu inundated the whole area with waves of ecstatic love for Kṛṣṇa.

Jayapatākā Swami: The Māgha mela is famous in Northern India, many people go there to bathe in the Yamunā and Gaṅgā confluence called the Triveṇī, but seeing Lord Caitanya they became inundated in an ocean of love of Kṛṣṇa.

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 19.41

bhrātṛdvayera ekaṭu nibhṛte avasthāna:—

bhiḍa dekhi’ dui bhāi rahilā nirjane
prabhura āveśa haila mādhava-daraśane

Translation: Seeing the great crowd, the two brothers remained standing in a secluded place. They could see that Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu was ecstatic to see Lord Bindu Mādhava.

Jayapatākā Swami: Hundreds and thousands of people were surrounding Lord Caitanya and were inundated in great ecstasy. Lord Caitanya became inundated seeing the Deity of Bindu-Mādhava, He became filled with ecstatic love

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 19.42

prabhura tātkālika avasthā

premāveśe nāce prabhu hari-dhvani kari’
ūrdhva-bāhu kari’ bale—bala ‘hari’ ‘hari’

Translation: The Lord was loudly chanting the holy name of Hari. Dancing in ecstatic love and raising His arms, He asked everyone to chant “Hari! Hari!”

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Caitanya was in such ecstasy he started to dance and told the people to chant the names of Hari Hari bol! Hari bol!

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 19.43

prabhura mahimā dekhi’ loke camatkāra
prayāge prabhura līlā nāri varṇibāra

Translation: Everyone was astounded to see the greatness of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu. Indeed, I cannot properly describe the pastimes of the Lord at Prayāga.

Jayapatākā Swami: How Lord Caitanya transformed all the people who were there is something that was astounding, and shows the greatness of Lord Caitanya’s mercy, Kṛṣṇadāsa Kavirāja expresses his inability to describe all those ecstatic moments.

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 19.44

dākṣiṇātya-vipra-gṛhe prabhura bhikṣā:—

dākṣiṇātya-vipra-sane āche paricaya
sei vipra nimantriyā nila nijālaya

Translation: Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu had made an acquaintance with a brāhmaṇa from Deccan [in South India], and that brāhmaṇa invited Him for meals and took Him to his place.

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Caitanya when He toured South India, He met this brāhmaṇa and now the brāhmaṇa is inviting Him to come to his house and take prasāda.

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 19.45

nirjane prabhusaha bhrātṛdvayera milana:—

vipra-gṛhe āsi’ prabhu nibhṛte vasilā
śrī-rūpa-vallabha duṅhe āsiyā mililā

Translation: While Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu was sitting in a solitary place in the home of that Deccan brāhmaṇa, Rūpa Gosvāmī and Śrī Vallabha [Anupama Mallika] came to meet Him.

Jayapatākā Swami: In the Bindu-Mādhava temple and in the public places there are so many hundreds and thousands of people, it was not possible for Rupa and Anupama to meet Lord Caitanya here. In the Bindu-Mādhava temple and in the public places there are so many hundreds and thousands of people, it was not possible for Rupa and Anupama to meet Lord Caitanya here. Taking advantage of Him being in a solitary place in the south Indian brāhmaṇaś house, south Indian brāhmaṇa they went and met Lord Caitanya there.

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 19.46

ubhayera dainyokti:—

dui-guccha tṛṇa duṅhe daśane dhariyā
prabhu dekhi’ dūre paḍe daṇḍavat hañā

Translation: Seeing the Lord from a distance, the two brothers put two clumps of straw between their teeth and immediately fell down on the ground like rods, offering Him obeisances.

Jayapatākā Swami: Seeing the Lord they put straw in between their teeth which is sign of humility and offered their prostrate obeisances.

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 19.47

nānā śloka paḍi’ uṭhe, paḍe bāra bāra
prabhu dekhi’ premāveśa ha-ila duṅhara

Translation: Both brothers were overwhelmed with ecstatic emotion, and reciting various Sanskrit verses, they stood up and fell down again and again.

Jayapatākā Swami: Seeing Lord Caitanya Śrī Rūpa and Śrī Vallabha felt great ecstasy and offered their obeisances again and again.
