yat-kṛpā tam ahaṁ vande śrī-guruṁ dīna-tāraṇam
paramānandaṁ mādhavaṁ śrī caitanya iśvaram

Hariḥ oṁ tat sat!

Hare Kṛṣṇa! Dear Devotees! Today we will continue with the compilation of Śrī Kṛṣṇa Caitanya Book, today's chapter entitled :

Kṛṣṇa Has Again Manifested at Vṛndāvana is Established

Under the section: Lord Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu’s Visit to Śrī Vṛndāvana

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā, 18.117

lokera prabhuke ‘kṛṣṇa’ baliyā dṛḍha-viśvāsa o stuti:—

loka kahe,—tomāte kabhu nahe ‘jīva’-mati
kṛṣṇera sadṛśa tomāra ākṛti-prakṛti

Translation: After Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu explained the difference between an ordinary living being and the Supreme Personality of Godhead, the people said, “No one considers You an ordinary human being. You are like Kṛṣṇa in every respect, in both bodily features and characteristics.”

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Caitanya defeated the Māyāvādī idea that, if you become a sannyāsī then you are jangama Nārāyaṇa but the devotees of Vṛndāvana didn’t accept Lord Caitanya as ordinary human being, they accepted Him as Lord Kṛṣṇa in every respect.

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā, 18.118

‘ākṛtye’ tomāre dekhi ‘vrajendra-nandana’
deha-kānti pītāmbara kaila ācchādana

Translation: “By Your bodily features we can see that You are none other than the son of Nanda Mahārāja, although the golden luster of Your body has covered Your original complexion.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, most of the visitors to Lord Caitanya saw that He had the features of Lord Kṛṣṇa except that His color was golden.

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā, 18.119

priyabhaktera nikaṭa bhagavat-svarūpera svataḥprakāśa:—

mṛga-mada vastre bāndhe, tabu nā lukāya
‘īśvara-svabhāva’ tomāra ḍhākā nāhi yāya

Translation: “As the aroma of deer musk cannot be concealed by wrapping it in a cloth, Your characteristics as the Supreme Personality of Godhead cannot be concealed by any means.”

Jayapatākā Swami: So, they were seeing Lord Caitanya's qualities and characteristics and understood that He was none other than Lord Kṛṣṇa Himself.

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā, 18.120

adhokṣaja haiyāo jagatera ākarṣaka:—

alaukika ‘prakṛti’ tomāra—buddhi-agocara
tomā dekhi’ kṛṣṇa-preme jagat pāgala

Translation: “Indeed, Your characteristics are uncommon and beyond the imagination of an ordinary living being. Simply by seeing You, the entire universe becomes mad with ecstatic love for Kṛṣṇa.”

Jayapatākā Swami: So, this is the special characteristic of Lord Caitanya, simply by seeing Him, people will become mad in love of Kṛṣṇa.

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā, 18.121–122

bhagavad-darśana vā śuddhanāma-śravaṇamātra, bāla-vṛddha-vanitā, emanaki, antyajerao ‘ācārya’ haiyā jagaduddhāre sāmarthya:—

strī-bāla-vṛddha, āra ‘caṇḍāla’ ‘yavana’
yei tomāra eka-bāra pāya daraśana

kṛṣṇa-nāma laya, nāce hañā unmatta
ācārya ha-ila sei, tārila jagata

Translation: “If they see You just once, even women, children, old men, meat-eaters and members of the lowest caste immediately chant the holy name of Kṛṣṇa, dance like madmen and become spiritual masters capable of delivering the whole world.”

Jayapatākā Swami: So, this is the fruit of seeing Lord Caitanya even one time. Also, His Divine Grace AC Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda carried Lord Caitanya in his heart, just as the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 2nd Canto, 4th Chapter, 18th verse states that by taking shelter of a pure devotee one can become delivered. So, here we can see by this verse, women, children, yavanas, outcastes and lowest of mankind, simply by coming in contact with Lord Caitanya or His holy name, by His representative, one is able to become a spiritual master. In this way the saṅkīrtana of Lord Caitanya can be spread in every town and village of the whole world.

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā, 18.123

darśanera kārya āchuka, ye tomāra ‘nāma’ śune
sei kṛṣṇa-preme matta, tāre tribhuvane

Translation: “Apart from seeing You, whoever listens to Your holy name is made mad with ecstatic love for Kṛṣṇa and is able to deliver the three worlds.”

Jayapatākā Swami: Some people they don’t accept, that anyone except a person born in a brāhmaṇa family can become a spiritual master, but in this verse it states that even if one hears the holy name of Lord Caitanya, they can deliver the whole universe, such are the glories of Lord Caitanya and His holy names.

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā, 18.124

tomāra nāma śuni’ haya śvapaca ‘pāvana
alaukika śakti tomāra nā yāya kathana

Translation: “Simply by hearing Your holy name, dog-eaters become holy saints. Your uncommon potencies cannot be described in words.”

Jayapatākā Swami: So, we see that His Divine Grace AC Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda brought the holy name of the Lord Caitanya and the Hare Kṛṣṇa mahā-mantra all over the world. By the name of Lord Caitanya even dog-eaters can become great saints. They are stating how Lord Caitanya’s potencies are so uncommon that they cannot be described in wordṣ. Some people they don’t accept the mercy of Lord Caitanya, it is so powerful, that anyone can get purified by hearing His holy name, and become a great saint or a guru to deliver the world.

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā, 18.125

Śrīmad-Bhāgavate (3.33.6)—

yan-nāmadheya-śravaṇānukīrtanād
yat-prahvaṇād yat-smaraṇād api kvacit
śvādo ’pi sadyaḥ savanāya kalpate
kutaḥ punas te bhagavan nu darśanāt

Translation: “‘To say nothing of the spiritual advancement of persons who see the Supreme Person face to face, even a person born in a family of dog-eaters becomes immediately eligible to perform Vedic sacrifices if he once utters the holy name of the Supreme Personality of Godhead or chants about Him, hears about His pastimes, offers Him obeisances or even remembers Him.’”

Purport: For an explanation of this verse (Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 3.33.6), see Madhya-līlā, Chapter 16, text 186.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, normally to perform these sacrifices one should be a highly qualified brāhmaṇa, but the holy name of the Supreme Personality of Godhead is so powerful that by chanting it, by hearing it, or by remembering it, etc one immediately becomes qualified to perform Vedic sacrifices.

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā, 18.126

ukta samastai prabhura ‘taṭastha’ lakṣaṇa, svarūpataḥ prabhu—

sākṣāt svayaṁrūpa kṛṣṇa:—

eita’ mahimā—tomāra ‘taṭastha’-lakṣaṇa
‘svarūpa’-lakṣaṇe tumi—‘vrajendra-nandana’

Translation: “These glories of Yours are only marginal. Originally You are the son of Mahārāja Nanda.”

Purport: The original characteristics of a substance are called svarūpa, and the subsequent corollaries are called taṭastha-lakṣaṇa, or marginal characteristics. The glories of the Lord’s marginal characteristics prove Him to be the original Supreme Personality of Godhead, the son of Mahārāja Nanda. As soon as one understands this, one accepts Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu as the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, if one accepts Lord Caitanya as Lord Kṛṣṇa, he has understood everything and by following Lord Caitanya everything is possible.

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā, 18.127

sakalakei prabhura anugraha; tāhādera svagṛhe gamana:—

sei saba loke prabhu prasāda karila
kṛṣṇa-preme matta loka nija-ghare gela

Translation: Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu then bestowed His causeless mercy upon all the people there, and everyone became ecstatic with love of God. Finally, they all returned to their homes.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, Lord Caitanya is giving them the mercy and thus they became mad in love of Kṛṣṇa and having this ecstasy they returned to their homes.

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā, 18.128

akrura-tīrthe thākiyā lokoddhāra:—

ei-mata kata-dina ‘akrūre’ rahilā
kṛṣṇa-nāma-prema diyā loka nistārilā

Translation: Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu remained for some days in Akrūra-tīrtha. He delivered everyone there simply by distributing the holy name of Kṛṣṇa and ecstatic love for the Lord.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, Lord Caitanya remained for somedays in Akrūra tirtha and everyone who came, He gave them the holy name and gave them the blessings of ecstatic love of Kṛṣṇa.

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā, 18.129

sānoḍiyā-viprera mathurāya sakala sajjanakei prabhu-sevāra suyoga diyā uddhāra-sādhana:—

mādhava-purīra śiṣya seita brāhmaṇa
mathurāra ghare-ghare karā’na nimantraṇa

Translation: The brāhmaṇa disciple of Mādhavendra Purī went from house to house in Mathurā and inspired other brāhmaṇas to invite Caitanya Mahāprabhu to their homes.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, the brāhmaṇas who could have Lord Caitanya come to there are especially blessed. We see Lord Caitanya He goes to the house of the devotees, even though they are not highly situated brāhmaṇas. So, how many of you would like Lord Caitanya to come to your house and take prasāda? Hari Bol!

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā, 18.130

mathurāra yata loka brāhmaṇa sajjana
bhaṭṭācārya-sthāne āsi’ kare nimantraṇa

Translation: Thus all the respectable people of Mathurā, headed by the brāhmaṇas, came to Balabhadra Bhaṭṭācārya and extended invitations to the Lord.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, the Sanoḍiyā Brāhmaṇa, Kṛṣṇa dāsa he influenced others to get the mercy of Lord Caitanya.

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā, 18.131

ekasaṅge bahu vyakti nimantraṇa karileo, bhaṭṭera eka ekajanera mātra nimantraṇa-grahaṇa:—

eka-dina ‘daśa’ ‘biśa’ āise nimantraṇa
bhaṭṭācārya ekera mātra karena grahaṇa

Translation: In one day, ten to twenty invitations were received, but Balabhadra Bhaṭṭācārya would accept only one of them.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, out of ten or twenty invitations, only one would get the mercy. So this was the special mercy for them.

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā, 18.132

sakalerai ekayoge prabhuke bhikṣā dite vyastatā-hetu lokera prabhu-sevāra avasarābhāva:—

avasara nā pāya loka nimantraṇa dite
sei vipre sādhe loka nimantraṇa nite

Translation: Since not everyone got an opportunity to offer invitations to Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu personally, those who did not requested the Sanoḍiyā brāhmaṇa to ask the Lord to accept their invitations.

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā, 18.133

vaidika sadbrāhmaṇera sadainye prabhuke nimantraṇa:—

kānyakubja-dākṣiṇātyera vaidika brāhmaṇa
dainya kari, kare mahāprabhura nimantraṇa

Translation: The brāhmaṇas from different places, such as Kānyakubja and South India, who were all strict followers of the Vedic religion, offered invitations to Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu with great humility.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, the South Indian brāhmaṇas they offered Lord Caitanya with great humility their invitation. So, many people wanted Lord Caitanya to come but only one would get the special mercy, others were aspiring, begging the Lord.

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā, 18.134

akrare āsiyā āpanārāi randhana kariyā prabhuke bhikṣā-dāna:—

prātaḥ-kāle akrūre āsi’ randhana kariyā
prabhure bhikṣā dena śālagrāme samarpiyā

Translation: In the morning they would come to Akrūra-tīrtha and cook food. After offering it to the śālagrāma-śilā, they offered it to Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu.

Purport: There are brāhmaṇas known as pañca-gauḍa-brāhmaṇas, who come from five places in northern India, and there are brāhmaṇas known as pañca-dākṣiṇātya-brāhmaṇas, who come from five places in southern India. In northern India the places are Kānyakubja, Sārasvata, Gauḍa, Maithila and Utkala. In southern India the places are Andhra, Karnataka, Gujarat, Drāviḍa and Maharashtra. The brāhmaṇas from these places are considered to be very strict followers of the Vedic principles, and they are accepted as pure brāhmaṇas. They strictly observe Vedic principles and are not polluted by tantric misdeeds. All of these brāhmaṇas respectfully invited Caitanya Mahāprabhu for lunch.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, Lord Caitanya’s visit to Mathura and Vṛndāvana was received by all the brāhmaṇas of north and south India and they all hoped to get a chance to serve Lord Caitanya. So, how fortunate are the devotees of Ithe nternational Soceity for Krishna Consciousness, that Śrīla Prabhupāda has established Lord Caitanya and Lord Nityānanda in various temples all over the world. They are able to offer Him bhoga and take remnants as prasāda, so this mercy Lord Caitanya's prasāda is available in many places all over the world.

Thus ends the chapter entitled, Kṛṣṇa Has Again Manifested at Vṛndāvana is Established
