Lord Caitanya Places His Lotus Feet on Sārvabhauma Bhaṭṭācārya Who Offers Prayers (Part 2).

Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 6.214

tarka-śāstre jaḍa āmi, yaiche lauha-piṇḍa
āmā dravāile tumi, pratāpa pracaṇḍa’

Translation: “I had become dull-headed due to reading too many books on logic. Consequently, I had become like an iron bar. Nonetheless, You have melted me, and therefore Your influence is very great.”

Caitanya Carita Mahā Kāvya 12.34: What the best of brāhmaṇas, very bold and satisfied, recited, Bṛhaspati himself could not recite, even in the future, and even with endeavor.

Murāri Gupta Kaḍaca 3.12.14: "O all-opulent Personality of Godhead," Sārvabhauma prayed, "Your Lordship is the beloved Person who is gloried in the Vedic hymns. The people of the world cannot understand You in the least. O Prabhu, I am also a soul bewildered by Your illusory potency, but in this life, by Your grace, I have come in the presence of Your lotus feet.

Murāri Gupta Kaḍaca 3.12.15: "In ancient times, You descended to earth in the home of Vasudeva and slew many great demons headed by Kaṁsa. Now, again manifesting Your transcendental abode, You have appeared in the home of a brāhmaṇa.

Murāri Gupta Kaḍaca 3.12.16: "You engage Your own followers in relishing Your glorious pastimes of married relationships with the queens of Dvārakā, as well as Your unwedded relationships with the milkmaids in the pastoral abode of Vraja. You have descended for the happiness and welfare of the universe. Please protect this fallen soul, O ocean of mercy!

Jayapatākā Swami: So Sārvabhauma Bhaṭṭācārya has realized that Lord Caitanya is Kṛṣṇa Himself. He is the ocean of mercy therefore Sārvabhauma Bhaṭṭācārya is praying for His protection praying for His mercy.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 16.246

caraṇe paḍiyā kānde vinaya vistara
stuti kare sārvabhauma gadagadasvara

Jayapatākā Swami: Falling at Lord Caitanya’s lotus feet in great humility in extensive humility, Sārvabhauma Bhaṭṭācārya offered many prayers in a voice choked with emotion.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 16.247

sagadagada-svare paḍhe sahasreka stave
“caitanyasahasra” nāma jāne loka saba

Jayapatākā Swami: His voice choked with transcendental emotion he recited a thousand prayers this was known by the name the “caitanya-sahasra” by the people in general.

This was known by the name the “caitanya-sahasra” by the people in general.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 16.248

vihvala haiyā paḍe pādāmbuja pāśa
ka'ye locana sārvabhaumera prakāśa

Jayapatākā Swami: Overcome with emotion, he fell at the lotus feet of Lord Caitanya. Thus, says Locana dāsa about the manifestation of Sārvabhauma Bhaṭṭācārya.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 16.249

eimate āche prabhu ānanda kautuke
ānande dekhaye nīlācala-vāsī loke

Jayapatākā Swami: In this way Lord Caitanya enjoyed many transcendental blissful pastimes. The residents of Nīlacala, they happily gazed on the Lord.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 16.250

āchila-adhika jagannāthera prakāśa
sabhāra hṛdaye sukha paraśe’ ākāśa

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Jagannātha manifestation was enhanced greatly and everyone was feeling transcendental ecstasy in their heart, so that their happiness seemed to touch the limit of the sky.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 16.251

caitanya-carita-kathā ke kahite jāne
sambarite nāri–kichu kahiye vadane

Jayapatākā Swami: Who knows how to describe all the descriptions of Lord Caitanya's pastimes and characteristics? I cannot abstain from speaking, some of them come from my mouth.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 16.252

śrī-murāri-gupta bejhā dhanya tinaloke
paṇḍita śrī-dāmodara puchila tāhāke

Jayapatākā Swami: The physician Śri Murāri Gupta is most fortunate and glorious in the three worlds. Paṇḍita Śrī Dāmodara asked him questions.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 16.253

kahila murāri-gupta śloka-parabandhe
ye kichu śunila sei doṅhāra prasāde

Jayapatākā Swami: Murāri Gupta wrote a book of ślokas describing those questions and answers. Whatever I heard is by the mercy of these two persons.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 16.254

śuniñā mādhurī-lobhe citta utarole
nijadoṣa nā dekhiyā mana bhora bhele

Jayapatākā Swami: So hearing this, I developed a greed to taste the sweetness in my heart and for that I am agitated. Not seeing at my own faults, my heart has become filled in stability.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 16.255

ye kichu kahila nija-buddhi-anurūpa
pāñcāli-prabandhe kahoṅ mora chāra mūrukha

Jayapatākā Swami: Therefore, as far as my intelligence allows, I, a fallen fool, write this book in the ballad form in pañcāli meter.

Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 6.215

prabhura svasthāne āgamana:—
stuti śuni’ mahāprabhu nija vāsā āilā

bhaṭṭācārya ācārya-dvāre bhikṣā karāilā

Translation: After hearing the prayers offered by Sārvabhauma Bhaṭṭācārya, Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu returned to His residence, and the Bhaṭṭācārya, through Gopīnātha Ācārya, induced the Lord to accept lunch there.

Jayapatākā Swami: So we see that Caitanya bestowed His causeless mercy on Sārvabhauma Bhaṭṭācārya and Sārvabhauma Bhaṭṭācārya almost became mad and very ecstatic and his appreciation of Lord Caitanya. That he compared himself to be cold piece of iron but Lord Caitanya was able to melt his heart. He said that is great, that He could melt the iron heart of mine. Locana dāsa Ṭhākura, he also he is hearing the pastimes of Lord Caitanya from the notes of Murāri Gupta and written the book Caitanya-maṅgala So being greedy to taste the nectar of Lord Caitanya’s pastimes from the book of Murāri Gupata, His book is written in Sanskrit, Locana dāsa Ṭhākura is written in Bengali in ballad form. So we see how Lord Caitanya mercy is so great that the cold hearted condition of Māyāvādī philosopher Sārvabhauma Bhaṭṭācārya, his heart was melted by Lord Śrī Caitanaya.

Thus ends the chapter entitled, Lord Caitanya Places His Lotus Feet on Sārvabhauma Bhaṭṭācārya Who Offers Prayers.
