Jayapatākā Swami: “The name of that enchanting place is Ekāmraka-vana (Bhuvaneśvara). You will be Lord there, of millions of liṅga.”

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.366

Jayapatākā Swami: “There is a city as almost like Vārāṇasī very pleasing. I reside in that place. That place is my supremely confidential city.”

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.367

sei sthāna śiva, āji kahi tomā'-sthāne

Jayapatākā Swami: “That place, O Śiva, which I have revealed to you that cities secrets. I have told you that place that cities secrets no one else knows the secrets of that place.”

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.368

purīra māhātmya—

sindhu-tīre vaṭa-mūle `nīlācala' nāma
kṣetra-śrī-puruṣottama-ati ramya-sthāna

Jayapatākā Swami: “On the shore of the ocean beneath one banyan tree is named Nīlācala, that most enchanting place which is also known as Śrī Puruṣottama-kṣetra.” So the glories of the Śrī Puruṣottama-kṣetra is described in Padma Purāṇa, Kriyā-yoga-sāra, Eleventh Chapter: “On the shore of the saltwater ocean is the sacred city named Puruṣottama. O best of the brāhmaṇas, it is more difficult to attain than even heaven.” “Because the divine Personality of Godhead is directly present in that city, it is called Puruṣottama by those who are expert knowers of names.” “O brāhmaṇa, that rarely achieved holy district measures ten yojanas on all sides. The embodied living beings who reside there are seen by the demigods as having four arms.”

Śrī Puruṣottama-kṣetra is eighty miles on all sides, that means 80 miles to north 80 miles to south, 80 miles to west, 80 miles to east. Since it is on the ocean, its 80 miles into the ocean. Every year Śrī Puruṣottama-kṣetra Parikramā which is held, This, year this is first day of the Śrī Puruṣottama-kṣetra parikramā. So we see that people who are seem to stay here, in the scared place are seen by the devas as having four arms, that means this place is like Vaikuṇṭha on earth and that means the people who live there are seen as having four arms like Visnu, so the angels see the people there as having four arms — similarly by entering that place we also assume a spiritual platform, a form like Lord Viṣṇu. The prasāda in Jagannātha Purī is prepared by Lakṣmī and taken by Lord Kṛṣṇa and then the offering is taken by Bimalā devī, mother of the universe and the prasāda is distributed to the His devotees. That prasāda should be taken without any discrimination if it is touched by an untouchable it is still considered sacred and there everyone they takes the mahā-prasāda sitting in line they don’t discriminate since everyone is considered by taking that prasāda they considered among the best of twice born that prasāda is difficult for higher planets to attain. So human being if taken, it is very easy for us the residence in the planets of Lord Viṣṇu even Lord Brahmā and other devas they are very eager to take it and when they get it, they take it with great respect. What to speak of ordinary mortals! Any human being who does not take pleasure in that special mahā-prasāda they are considered as the enemy of Mahā Viṣṇu. As the Ganges purifies one from the sins and purifies the entire earth and also the upper, lower and middle planets, that Jagannātha mahā-prasāda purifies and destroys all sins. It can even shed a mountain of sins like a thunderbolt although it is very sweet and soft. If one takes that prasāda all their bad karma from millions of life is destroyed and one attains pure devotion and if one performed pious activities and they have become depleted, by taking that mahā-prasāda they will develop devotion.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.369

ananta brahmāṇḍa kāle yakhana saṁhāre
tabu se sthānera kichu karite nā pāre

Jayapatākā Swami: “When the unlimited universes are destroyed, that place remains intact.”

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.370

sarva-kāla sei sthāne āmāra vasati
prati-dina āmāra bhojana haya tathi

Jayapatākā Swami: “I eternally reside there, every day I eat there.”

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.371

se sthānera prabhāve yojana daśa bhūmi
tāhāte vasaye yata jantu, kīṭa, kṛmi

Jayapatākā Swami: “That divine place extends for eighty miles, whoever is there, all living entities who live there, even the animals, insects, and worms...

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.372

sabāre dekhaye catur-bhuja deva-gaṇe
`bhuvana-maṅgala' kari' kahiye ye sthāne

Jayapatākā Swami: ...are seen by the demigods as having auspicious four arms. That place is known as the most auspicious place in the whole world.”

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.373

nidrāte o ye sthāne samādhi-phala haya
śayane praṇāma-phala yathā vede kaya

Jayapatākā Swami: “By sleeping there, the Vedas say, that one obtains the results of samādhi, and by lying down there one obtains the results of offering obeisances, proclaim the Vedas.”

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.374

pradakṣiṇa-phala pāya karile bhramaṇa
kathā mātra yathā haya āmāra stavana

Jayapatākā Swami: “By wandering around about that place, one obtains the result of circumambulating and a mere speech at that place is considered as a prayer offered to Me.”

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.375

hena se kṣetrera ati prabhāva nirmala
matsya khāile o pāya haviṣyera phala

Jayapatākā Swami: “By the most sanctified influence of that kṣetra or place is so great that even by eating fish one attains the result of eating haviṣya rice.”

Purport (by Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura): It is stated [in the Manu-saṁhitā]: “One who eats fish is considered to have eaten all forms of meat. Therefore one should not eat fish.” According to this scriptural statement, one who eats fish incurs the sin of eating the flesh of all types of living entities. Therefore since fish is most abominable, it must not be eaten. Haviṣya rice, or boiled sunned rice and ghee, is most pure. It is not abominable in any way. One's contemplation on Mukunda always remains strong while living in Śrī-kṣetra even if one eats extremely abominable foods, for the living entity there loses the sinful desire to eat abominable foods like fish, and the remnants of Lord Viṣṇu appear to him as relishable and more sanctified than haviṣya rice. Misguided inhabitants of the ten yojana abode of the Lord who do not understand the purport of the Purāṇas have openly introduced the practice of eating foods like dry fish. If they renounce the eating of abominable foods like fish, they will be able to chant the name of Hari. Although haviṣya rice is in the mode of goodness, it is not equal to transcendental mahā-prasāda. By honoring transcendental mahā-prasāda one attains pure devotional service to Kṛṣṇa.

Jayapatākā Swami: His Divine Grace Śrila A.C Bhaktivendta Swami Prabhupāda visited Jagannātha Purī thinking him a Bengali the local paṇḍā offered him fish but he told he only wanted Jagannātha prasāda and then he took Jagannātha prasāda. Although that place is so sacred that abominable food like fish are like the food in mode of goodness considered like haviṣya. But devotees they are not interested in eating foods in the mode of goodness, they want transcendental food so they eat Kṛṣṇa’s prasāda. Hare Kṛṣṇa!

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.376

nija-nāme sthāna mora hena priyatama
tāhāte yateka vaise, se āmāra sama

Jayapatākā Swami: “That dhāma, that abode which bears My name, is very dear to Me, it is the most dear to me. Everyone who resides there is equal to Me.”

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.377

se sthāne nāhika yama-daṇḍa-adhikāra
āmi kari bhāla-manda-vicāra sabāra

Jayapatākā Swami: “Yamarāja has no jurisdiction to punish anyone in that place. I alone judge everyone and their good and bad activities of everyone there.”

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.378

purīra uttare śrī-bhuvaneśvara—

hena se āmāra purī, tāhāra uttare
tomāre dilāṅa sthāna rahibāra tare

Jayapatākā Swami: “That is my sacred town about to the north I am giving you that place to stay. That divine city to the north is that place I am giving for you to stay.”

Purport (by Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura): The place north of Nīlācala is within the ten yojana area is Bhuvaneśvara.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.379

bhukti-mukti-prada sei sthāna manohara
tathā tumi khyāta haibā `śrī-bhuvaneśvara'”

Jayapatākā Swami: “That enchanting place awards one material enjoyment and liberation. You will be renowned there as “Śrī Bhuvaneśvara.”

Purport (by Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura): The phrase bhukti-mukti-prada is explained as follows: After people attain material enjoyment or liberation, they become suitable candidates for worshiping the Supreme Lord. Another reading for bhukti-mukti-prada is bhakti-mukti-prada, or “the bestower of liberation in the form of devotional service.” In this case, devotional service will be considered an adjective, as devotional service alone is the actual liberation of the living entities.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, Kṛṣṇa is speaking this verse to Lord Śiva, Maheśa and giving Him the Bhuvaneśvara to reside in within the northern side of the Puruṣottama kṣetra. Even today he resides in the same district as Jagannātha Purī.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.380

śivera śrī-kṛṣṇa-caraṇa-samīpe kṣetra-vāsa-prārthanā—

śuniyā adbhuta purī-mahimāśaṅkara
punaḥśrī-caraṇa dhari' karilā uttara

Jayapatākā Swami: After Śiva Śaṅkara heard the wonderful glories of Jagannātha Purī, he again grabbed hold the lotus feet of Lord Caitanya and spoke.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.381

“śuna prāṇa-nātha, mora eka nivedana
muñi se parama ahaṅkṛta sarva-kṣaṇa

Jayapatākā Swami: “O Lord of my life, I have one request. I am always extremely proud due to false ego.”

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.382

eteke tomāre chāḍi' āmi anya sthāne
thākile kuśala mora nāhika kakhane

Jayapatākā Swami: “Therefore to give up Your association and live in any other place that would not be good for me at any time.”

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.383

tomāra nikaṭe thāki sabe mora mana
duṣṭa-saṅga-doṣe bhāla nāhika kakhana

Jayapatākā Swami: “My desire is to always stay close to You. It is never good to remain in bad association.”

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.384

eteke āmāre yadi thāke bhṛtya-jñāna
tabe nija-kṣetre more deha' eka sthāna

Jayapatākā Swami: “If You therefore, consider me as Your servitor, please give me a one place to stay in Your own transcendental abode.”

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.385

kṣetrera mahimāśuni' śrī-mukhe tomāra
baḍa icchā haila tathā thākite āmāra

Jayapatākā Swami: “After hearing the glories of Jagannātha-kṣetra, Your abode from Your lotus mouth I have developed an intense desire to live there.”

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.386

nikṛṣṭa haiyā prabhu, sevimu tomāre
tathāya tileka sthāna deha' prabhu, more

Jayapatākā Swami: “I am the most insignificant, My Lord, I will serve You as a menial servant. Please give me a tiny place, oh Lord Kṛṣṇa! in that place.”

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.387

kṣetra-vāsa-prati mora baḍa laya mana”
eta bali' maheśvara karena krandana

Jayapatākā Swami: “I desire to live in Your holy abode.” After speaking these words, Maheśvara Śiva began to cry. Haribol!

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.388

priyatama śivera prati śrī-harira pratyuttara–

śiva-vākye tuṣṭa hai' śrī-candra-vadana
balite lāgilā tāṅre kari' āliṅgana

Jayapatākā Swami: Hearing the words of Lord Śiva, the moon-faced Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa was pleased. He started to speak and He then embraced Lord Śiva.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.389

śuna śiva, tumi mora nija-deha sama
ye tomāra priya, se mohāra priyatama

Jayapatākā Swami: “Listen, Lord Śiva. You are equal to My body. Anyone who is dear to you is most dear to Me.”

Purport (by Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura): The meaning of the phrase mohāra priyatama can be understood from Śrī Śrī Jīva Gosvāmī's following statement in the Bhakti-sandarbha (216): “Whenever the scriptures describe the spiritual master and Lord Śiva as being nondifferent from Kṛṣṇa, pure devotees understand that this is because of their being most dear to Śrī Kṛṣṇa.”

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.390

yathā tumi, tathā āmi, ithe nāhi āna
sarva-kṣetre tomāre dilāṅa āmi sthāna

Jayapatākā Swami: “Wherever I am present you are present. Of this there is no doubt about it. In all my holy places, I am giving you a place to reside.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.391

kṣetra-pāla śiva—

kṣetrera pālaka tumi sarvathā āmāra
sarva-kṣetre tomāre dilāma adhikāra

Jayapatākā Swami: “I authorize You to be the protector and maintainer of all My holy abodes. I authorize you to do this on all my holy places.

Purport (by Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura): Because after Mahādeva received a place to reside in Ekāmraka-kṣetra he prayed that he be allowed to live wherever the Lord stays, Mahādeva was appointed the maintainer of all of Viṣṇu's abodes.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.392

ekāmraka-vana ye tomāre dila āmi
tāhāte o paripūrṇa-rūpe thāka tumi

Jayapatākā Swami: “I have given you the Ekāmraka-vana (Bhuvaneśvara) to reside in. Reside there to your full satisfaction, stay there in full manifestation.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.393-94

sei kṣetra āmāra parama priya sthāna
mora prīte tathāya thākibe sarva-kṣaṇa

ye āmāra bhakta hai tomā’ anādare
se āmāre mātra yena viḍambanā kare

Jayapatākā Swami: “That kṣetra or the holy place is my very dear place. Always reside there for My pleasure. If one of My devotees disrespects you, he simply creates disturbances for Me.”

Purport (by Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura): Mahādeva was instructed to live in Bhuvaneśvara-kṣetra to his full satisfaction. No devotee of Viṣṇu should disrespect him. Anyone who does so will fall from the devotional service of the Supreme Lord. This benediction was given to Mahādeva.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, devotees should be very careful, not to disrespect Mahādeva Śiva. Even though He may be worshipped by demons and others, may be surrounded by ghostly creatures but He is always pure, he is a pure devotee of Lord Kṛṣṇa so we should be respectful and also all the holy places are protected and maintained by Lord Śiva and His consort, we see that Jagannātha Purī, entering, we should take the blessings of Bhuvaneśvara Śiva and all the prasāda of Lord Jagannātha is offered to Bimalā devī similarly the holy dhāma of Navadvīpa is protected by Vṛddha Śiva and Prauḍha Māyā. Similarly, in Vṛndāvana, Lord Śiva protects and he has various names in various deities. To enter into the rāsa-līlā Lord Śiva takes the form of Gopeśvara Māhadeva and one had to get his blessings to enter into rāsa-līlā. Like that Lord Śiva is the protector and maintainer of all the holy places of Lord Viṣṇu.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.395

‘bhuvaneśvara' nāmera kāraṇa—

hena mate śiva pāilena sei sthāna
adyāpiha vikhyāta-bhuvaneśvara-nāma

Jayapatākā Swami: In this way Lord Śiva obtained that place. Even today that place is celebrated by the name Bhuvaneśvara.

Thus, ends the chapter entitled, Lord Kṛṣṇa Gives Bhuvaneśvara to Maheśvara Under the Section Ekāmra-kānana (Bhuvaneśvara) Haribol!
