Introduction: Today we are continuing with Śrī Kṛṣṇa Caitanya Book compilation, todays chapter entitled is:

Deliverance of the Śākta-sannyāsīs

Caitanya-bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.263

jaleśvare rātriyāpana o ūṣaḥkāle sthānatyāga—
ei mate jaleśvare se rātri rahiyā
ūṣaḥkāle calilā sakala bhakta lañā

Jayapatākā Swami: In this way they passed the night in Jaleśvara. In the early morning Lord Caitanya departed taking all the devotees.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.264

vāṁśadaha-pathe janaika śākta nyāsīra sahita ālāpana-līlā—
vāṁśadaha-pathe eka śākta nyāsi-veśa
āsiyā prabhure pathe karila ādeśa

Jayapatākā Swami: On the way to Vaṁśadaha the Lord Caitanya met one śākta dressed as a sannyāsī, who attempted to instruct the Lord.

Purport (by Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura): Other names for Vaṁśadaha are Vaṁśadā and Vaṁśadhā. This place is situated near Jaleśvara.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.265

‘śākta’ hena prabhu jānilena nija mane
sambhāṣite lāgilena madhura vacane

Jayapatākā Swami: The Lord Caitanya understood in His mind that He was a śākta, or worshiper of goddess Durgā, yet He began to speak to him in sweet words.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.266

prabhu bale,—“kaha kaha kothā tumi saba!
cira-dine āji sabe dekhiluṅ bāndhava”

Jayapatākā Swami: The Lord Caitanya said, “Tell Me, tell me where have you been? After a long time, today I have seen My friend.”

Caitanya-bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.267

prabhura māyāya mohita śākta-nyāsī—

prabhura māyāya śākta mohita hailā
āpanāra tattva yata kahite lāgilā

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Caitanya’s illusory energy bewildered the sannyāsī, he began to tell the truth about himself.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.268

yata yata śākta vaise yata yata deśe
saba kahe eke eke, śuni' prabhu hāse

Jayapatākā Swami: The śākta in other words, the devotee of Goddess Durgā told about all the śāktas he knew in different lands. He told about each one from place to place, when Lord Caitanya heard this He smiled.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.269

śākta nyāsīra svīya tāmasa maṭhe prabhuke “ānanda”-pānārtha-nimantraṇa—

śākta bale,—“cala jhāṭa maṭhete āmāra
sabei ‘ānanda’ āji kariba apāra”

Jayapatākā Swami: The śākta-sannyāsī said, “Let us go to my monastery. We can all drink lots of ‘ānanda’ bliss together.”

Caitanya-bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.270

pāpīśākta madirāre balaye ‘ānanda’
bujhiyā hāsena gauracandra-nityānanda

Jayapatākā Swami: Realizing that the sinful śākta was referring to wine by calling ‘ānanda’ or 'bliss', understanding Lord Gauracandra and Lord Nityānanda smiled.

Purport (by Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura): The phrase pāpīśākta is explained as follows: Since worshipers of Śakti (Durgā) who become intoxicated with material happiness by drinking wine have a strong propensity for committing sinful activities, they are ultimately cheated of spiritual advancement. The pañca-makāra — māṁsa (meat), madya (wine), matsya (fish), mahilā (women), and maithuna (sex) — are the source of pleasure for their material bodies.

Jayapatākā Swami: So these śāktas are addicted to various materialistic activities.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.271

prabhura vañcanā—
prabhu bale,—“āsi āmi ‘ānanda’ karite
āge giyā tumi sajja karaha tvarite”

Jayapatākā Swami: The Lord Caitanya said, “I will come to enjoy your ‘ānanda’ bliss, but you go first and quickly make arrangements.”

Purport (by Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura): Since many foolish people are unable to ascertain the truth, they consider sense gratification born of ignorance as the goal of life. Because people attached to śākta philosophy glorify their own sense gratification, they cannot understand unalloyed service to Adhokṣaja. Prākṛta-sahajiyās are fit to be addressed as “pāpīśāktas”. Their goal of life is material enjoyment. Just as Śrī Gaurasundara cheated such prākṛta-sahajiyās by approving of their activities when He met them, the most pure spiritual master of this fallen soul also recently cheated many people interested in material enjoyment by following the example set by Śrī Caitanya. People interested in material enjoyment think that the Vaiṣṇavas hanker after name and fame as they do. Such prākṛta-sahajiyās or sinful śāktas also know that when they spread their network of wicked motives to compel the Vaiṣṇavas to become attached householders by tempting them with household comforts, the most independent Vaiṣṇavas will rebuke them with angry words.

The Vaiṣṇavas never visit the homes of prākṛta-sahajiyās. The most independent pure Vaiṣṇavas never participate in any gathering arranged by any prākṛta-sahajiyā. Foolish people think that the supremely liberated mahā-bhāgavatas support their sinful activities, but the actual aim of Śrī Gaurasundara and His devotees is to deceive them by remaining aloof from their bad association.

Jayapatākā Swami: So Lord Caitanya rather than engaging in debate with such kind of people He would deceive them in this way actually but he was not interested in any materialistic enjoyment. His process is to enjoy real transcendental happiness by serving Lord Kṛṣṇa and that point that the sinful śāktas and prākṛta-sahajiyā miss.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.272

śuniyā calilāśākta hai’ haraṣita
ei mata īśvarera agādha carita

Jayapatākā Swami: On hearing the Lord Caitanya's reply, the śākta departed happily. Such are the unfathomable characteristics of the Supreme Lord. So in this way Lord Caitanya, he pleased the śākta who had no interest in engaging in this materialistic activities.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.273

patita-pāvana śrī-gaurahari—

‘patita-pāvana kṛṣṇa’ sarva-vede kahe
ataeva śākta-sane prabhu kathā kahe

Jayapatākā Swami: All the Vedas describe Lord Kṛṣṇa as Patita-pāvana, the deliverer of the fallen souls. Therefore, Lord Caitanya spoke with the śākta. We see how the śākta was blessed as he spoke to Supreme Personality of Godhead Lord Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu, who can imagine this good fortune that He could actually talk with the Lord.

Caitanya-bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.274

loke bale,—“e śāktera haila uddhāra
e-śākta-paraśe anya śāktera nistāra”

Jayapatākā Swami: People would then say, “This śākta had been delivered, and by his contact other śāktas will also be delivered.”

Caitanya-bhāgavata Antya-khaṇḍa 2.275

ei mata śrī-gaurasundara bhagavān
nānā mate karilena sarva-jīva-trāṇa

Jayapatākā Swami: In this way Lord Śrī Gaurasundara, the Supreme Personality of Godhead used various means to deliver all living entities. By moments association of Lord Caitanya one could be delivered so in this way Lord Caitanya was delivering so many conditioned souls while performing His pastimes on the earth.

Thus ends the chapter entitled Deliverance of the Śākta-sannyāsīs.
