bhāratīre kahe – vilambera kārya nāi

Jayapatākā Swami: Having said this, Lord Gaurāṅga stayed at Keśava Bhāratī’s house. He told Keśava Bhāratī there is no need to delay.

Bhakti Ratnākara 2.31

bhāratī vyākula, kichu nā pāre kahite
nāpita āila tathā prabhura ājñāte

Jayapatākā Swami: Keśava Bhāratī was choked with emotion and could not speak anything. The barber came on the order of Lord Gaurāṅga.

Bhakti Ratnākara 2.32

ājñā nā laṅghiyā praṇamiyā padatale
śrīmastake hasta diyā bhāse netrajale

Jayapatākā Swami: Not disobeying the order of the Lord, he offered his obeisances at the Lord’s lotus feet. Putting his hand on the divine head of the Lord, he was floating in the water of His tears.

Bhakti Ratnākara 2.33

śrīśikhā muṇḍana kari’ prabhura icchāya
‘ki kainu, ki kainu’ bali bhūmite loṭāya

Jayapatākā Swami: Cutting out the śikhā of Lord Gaurāṅga’s desire, the barber said, “what have I done, what did I do?” Saying that he fell to the ground, rolling and lamenting.

Bhakti Ratnākara 2.34

śrīmastake dekhi śrīśikhāra adarśana
caturdike loka saba karaye krandana

Jayapatākā Swami: Seeing the transcendental head of the Lord, with the Śrī śikhā, having disappeared, people in all directions they were all crying.

Bhakti Ratnākara 2.35

kṣiti sikta asaṁkhya lokera netrajale
keha kichu nā śune krandana-kolāhale

Jayapatākā Swami: The earth was soaked by the waters from the eyes of countless people. No one could say anything. Nor could they hear anything else because of the tumultuous crying. Naturally, the people when they saw the beautiful hair of Lord Gaurāṅga cut, they started to cry. The hair was attracting millions of Cupids, it was completely transcendental, but the Lord was now shaved and completely bald.

Bhakti Ratnākara 2.36

kibā strī puruṣa dhairyya dharite nā pāre
śire karāghāta kari ninde vidhātāre

Jayapatākā Swami: Whether women or men, no one was able to remain patient, and while beating their head with their hands, they criticized Providence.

Bhakti Ratnākara 2.37

Jayapatākā Swami: The brāhmaṇa, Gaṅgādhara Bhaṭṭācārya, became soaked with tears from his eyes. He became unconscious. He fell on the ground.

Bhakti Ratnākara 2.39

prabhura icchāya mātra rahila jīvana
katakṣaṇa pare kichu pāila cetana

Jayapatākā Swami: Only by Lord Gaurāṅga’s wish, only by the wish of the Lord, he was able to maintain his life. After a while, he regained consciousness to some extent.

Bhakti Ratnākara 2.40

śrīkṛṣṇacaitanyanāma prabhura haila
śrīcaitanyanāma viprakarṇe praveśila

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Gaurāṅga was given the name Śrī Kṛṣṇa Caitanya. And the name Śrī Caitanya entered the ears of the brāhmaṇa.

Bhakti Ratnākara 2.41

śrīcaitanyanāma vipra laya bāra bāra

Jayapatākā Swami: Śrī Caitanya! Śrī Caitanya! Śrī Caitanya’s name was repeated again and again by the brāhmaṇa, Gaṅgādhara Bhaṭṭācārya. Continuously, from his two eyes streams of water of tears flowed.

Bhakti Ratnākara 2.42

kaṇṭakanagare sthira haite nā pāre
calilena kṣiptaprāya gaṅgātīre tīre

Jayapatākā Swami: “Caitanya! Caitanya!” He said. He called out constantly and not interested in the normal activities like bathing and eating, etc.

Bhakti Ratnākara 2.44

Jayapatākā Swami: In this form, he entered into the village of Cākhandi. Seeing Gaṅgādhara Bhaṭṭācārya, the village people were amazed at his transformation.

Bhakti Ratnākara 2.45

Bhakti Ratnākara 2.46

keha kāro prati kahe–evā ki āścarya
hailena kṣipta gaṅgādhara-bhaṭṭācārya

Bhakti Ratnākara 2.47

keha kahe – iṁ' kṣipta hailā ye nimitte
tāhā kichu jāni āmi, śuna ekacitte

Jayapatākā Swami: Somebody said, I know something about the cause for his madness. Please listen attentively, I will tell you what I know.

Bhakti Ratnākara 2.48

īśvarāṁśa nimāi-paṇḍita nadīyāra
paramasundara sūryasama tejaḥ yāṁra

Jayapatākā Swami: Nimāi Paṇḍita of Nadia, He is an portion of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. He is most beautiful looking, and He has the effulgence equal to the sun.

Jayapatākā Swami: Supremely beautiful, with wonderful dress, He was attracting even Cupid. But He renounced all that and accepted sannyāsa.

Bhakti Ratnākara 2.51

keśavabhāratī sannyāsa karāila
kṛṣṇacaitanyanāma paṇḍitera thuilā

Jayapatākā Swami: Keśava Bhāratī maharaja gave Him sannyāsa. He gave Nimāi Paṇḍita the name, Kṛṣṇa Caitanya.

Bhakti Ratnākara 2.52

dekhiyā sannyāsa keha dhairya nāhi bāndhe
caturdike vyākula haiyā loka kānde

Jayapatākā Swami: Seeing Him take sannyāsa, no one could keep their composure. On all sides, all the people became afflicted and the people cried.

Bhakti Ratnākara 2.53

rahiyā gagana-pathe kānde devagaṇa

Jayapatākā Swami: Situated in the sky, the demigods cried. Without clouds, rain showered on the people at that time.

Bhakti Ratnākara 2.54

gaṅgādhara adhairya se keśa adarśane
hā caitanya bali kṣipta haila sei kṣaṇe

Jayapatākā Swami: So Gaṅgādhara Bhaṭṭācārya became unsteady, seeing the hairs shaven off Lord Gaurāṅga’s head. He was saying, “Ha! Caitanya!” And at that time, he became mad.

Bhakti Ratnākara 2.55

sarvakriyā-rahita sadāi jhare āṁkhi
kirūpe haibe bhāla upāya nā dekhi

Jayapatākā Swami: Without performing any other activities, constantly tears flowed from his eyes. In what way he will become normal, I don’t see any way.

Bhakti Ratnākara 2.56

keha kahe iṁ' caitanyera dāsa haya
caitanya karibe bhāla ei mane laya

Jayapatākā Swami: Someone said, “He is Lord Caitanya’s servitor. I think that he can be only made good by Lord Caitanya.”

Bhakti Ratnākara 2.57

aiche kata kahi gaṅgādhara-viprabare
śrīcaitanya dāsa bali ḍāke bāre bāre

Jayapatākā Swami: Having said so much about the best of brāhmaṇas, Gaṅgādhara, everyone called him as Śrī Caitanya dāsa, again and again.

Bhakti Ratnākara 2.58

śrīcaitanyadāsa nāma śuni āpanāra
karaye uttara citte harṣa anivāra

Jayapatākā Swami: When he heard himself being addressed as Śrī Caitanya dasa, he was satisfied, and he would be pleased to respond.

Bhakti Ratnākara 2.59

gaṅgādhara pūrva nāma keha nāhi kaya
śrīcaitanyadāsa bali sakale ḍākaya

Jayapatākā Swami: So from that time, no one called him by his previous name, Gaṅgādhara Bhaṭṭācārya. Everyone called him by the name, “Śrī Caitanya Dāsa! Śrī Caitanya Dāsa! Śrī Caitanya Dāsa! Śrī Caitanya!”

Bhakti Ratnākara 2.60

eirūpe haila nāma śrīcaitanyadāsa
kata dine sthira haiyā kaila grāme vāsa

Jayapatākā Swami: In this way, his name became Śrī Caitanya dāsa. After some days, he became steady and resided in the village.

Bhakti Ratnākara 2.61

cākhandigrāmera atiprācīna brāhmaṇa
tāṁra mukhe e sakala karila śravaṇa

Jayapatākā Swami: In the village of Cākhandi there is a very old brāhmaṇa. I heard from his mouth, all these matters.

Bhakti Ratnākara 2.62

caitanyadāsera alaukika bhaktikriyā
taiche tāṁra patnī pativratā lakṣmīpriyā

Jayapatākā Swami: Just as Caitanya dāsa was engaged in pure devotional activities, transcendentally, in that way, so was his wife Lakṣmī-priyā, very devoted to her husband. So Caitanya dāsa, he was an eyewitness of Lord Caitanya’s taking sannyāsa, and therefore we get some more details from this pastime of Lord Gaurāṅga.

Thus Ends the Chapter, Gaṅgādhara Bhaṭṭācārya is Renamed as Śrī Caitanya Dāsa
