Śrī Kṛṣṇa Caitanya Book
Murāri Gupta Blessed by Love of the Lord [Part II]
06th February 2020,
Śrī dhāma Māyāpur, India
mūkaṁ karoti vācālaṁ paṅguṁ laṅghayate girim
yat-kṛpā tam ahaṁ vande śrī-guruṁ dīna-tāraṇam
paramānandaṁ mādhavaṁ śrī caitanya iśvaram
Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 1.117
śuniñā murāri kahe prabhura caraṇe
raghunātha-rūpa prabhu dekhiba nayana
Jayapatākā Swami: Hearing these words Murāri Gupta spoke the following before the Lord’s lotus feet.
I want to see with my eyes the form of my Lord Rāmacandra, My Lord. In spite of the instruction of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu that Murāri Gupta meditate on the form of Kṛṣṇa, he simply wanted to see the form of Lord Rāma. Lord Caitanya revealed, that actually in his previous birth, was Hanumān, and therefore he was naturally attached to seeing Lord Rāmacandra.
So, one many have particular attachment for a particular form of Viṣṇu or Nārāyaṇa, and that is allowed.
But if one can naturally have affection and love for Lord Kṛṣṇa, that is the best thing.
Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 1.118
eteka kahite mātra dekhe seikṣaṇe
durvādalaśyāma rāma jānakī-jīvane
Jayapatākā Swami: No sooner did Murāri Gupta say these words, that suddenly the form of Lord Rāmacandra, the life of Jānakī, appeared before him. Lord Rāmacandra had the complexion like a greenish Huber glass.
Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 1.119
lakṣmaṇa-bharata āra śatrughnādi yata
dekhiyā murāri haila ānande pūrita
Jayapatākā Swami: So in addition to Lord Rāmacandra, Murāri Gupta saw the brothers, Lakṣmaṇa, Bharata, Śatrughna and many others. So seeing all these Murāri Gupta was completely filled with spiritual bliss and ecstasy.
Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 1.120
bāhya dūre gela-bhūme paḍi gaḍi yāya
padmahasta diyā prabhu śānta kaila tāya
Jayapatākā Swami: Murāri Gupta’s external consciousness went far away and he was rolling on the ground. Lord Gaurāṅga touched him with His lotus hand and thus Murāri Gupta became peaceful, receiving Lord Caitanya’s blessing.
Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 1.121
vara dila-preme paripūrṇa hao tumi
tumi hanumān sei rāmacandra āmi
Jayapatākā Swami: So He gave the benediction of kṛṣṇa-prema, fully to Murāri Gupta, and Lord Gaurāṅga said, you are Hanumān and I am Lord Rāmacandra.
Murāri Gupta Kaḍaca 2.2.26
ity uktvā sa smita-mukho jagāma nija-mandiram
śrīmān viśvambharo devo hari-kīrtana-tat-paraḥ
Translation (Bengali) - ei kathā baliyāi śrīmān harikīrtana tatpara viśvambhara deva sahāsyavadane nija mandire gamana karilena.
Jayapatākā Swami: So saying with a smiling face, resplendent Viśvambhara Deva then departed for His own home, wholly absorbed in Hari-kīrtana..
Hari kīrtana !
Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 1.122½
e bola baliyā prabhu calilā mandire
Jayapatākā Swami: So after speaking these words, the Lord entered into His own house temple.
Caitanya-Bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 3.053
murāri-sahita gauracandra jaya jaya
jaya yajñavarāha—sevaka-rakṣāmaya
Jayapatākā Swami: All glories to Gauracandra and the association of Murāri Gupta! All glories to the Yajñavarāha, who protects His devotees! So Varāhadeva is the enjoyer of all sacrifices.
Kṛṣṇa’s Bhagavad-gītā says,
bhoktāraṁ yajña-tapasāṁ sarva-loka-maheśvaram
suhṛdaṁ sarva-bhūtānāṁ jñātvā māṁ śāntim ṛcchati.
Śrīla Prabhupāda called this the peace formula.
The Lord is the enjoyer of all sacrifices and all penances. This way, the Yajñavarāha, He is the enjoyer of all sacrifices and He protected His devotees by saving the earth.
Caitanya-Bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 3.054
ei mata sarva-sevakera ghare ghare
kṛpāya ṭhākura jānāyena āpanāre
Jayapatākā Swami: In this way, the Lord went to His servants’ houses, house to house, by His causeless mercy, He revealed Himself in each of their houses.
Caitanya-Bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 3.055
ciniyā sakala bhṛtya—prabhu āpanāra
parānandamaya citta haila sabāra
Jayapatākā Swami: So when all the servants understood that the Lord was their Lord, their object of worship, they became filled with spiritual bliss and their hearts became filled with spiritual bliss.
Caitanya-Bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 3.056
pāṣaṇḍīre āra keha bhaya nāhi kare
hāṭe ghāṭe sabe ‘kṛṣṇa’ gāya uccasvare
Jayapatākā Swami: No one had any fear of the atheists, the public markets, the bathing ghāts, they all chanted Kṛṣṇa! Kṛṣṇa! Gaurahari manifested His real form to His intimate associates.
So, the devotees, they abandoned their shyness and inhibitions to the different non-devotees, and they merged in the spiritual bliss. Therefore, these devotees they loudly chanted in all the public places, the Hare Kṛṣṇa māha-mantra. They were not afraid of any punishment which the atheists had threatened.
Caitanya-Bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 3.057
prabhu-saṅge miliyā sakala bhaktagaṇa
mahānande aharniśa karaye kīrtana
Jayapatākā Swami: The Lord Gaurāṅga, with all the devotees gathered together and chanted in great bliss, day and night, kīrtana of the Lord’s holy names.
This is by Śrīla Bhakti Vinoda Ṭhākura ,
Gaurāṅga-līlā-smaraṇa-maṅgala-stotram Verse 20,
By Śrīla Bhaktivinoda Ṭhakura
yaḥ kola-rūpa-dhṛg aho varaṇīya-mūrtir
gupte kṛpāṁ ca mahatīṁ sahasā cakāra
tam vyāsa-pūjana-vidhau baladeva-bhāvān
mādhvīka-yācana-paraṁ paramaṁ smarāmi
Translation: Suddenly displaying Lord Varāha's handsome form, He was very merciful to Murārī Gupta. During the worship of Vyāsa He became Balarāma and began to call for mādhvīka liquor. I meditate on Him, the Supreme Personality of Godhead.
Thus ends the Chapter
Murāri Gupta Blessed With Love By The Lord
Question: Please accept my respectful obeisances, dearest Guru Mahārāja .
We have heard that Lord Caitanya freely distributed the holy names. In His song, Jiva Jago, Śrīla Bhakti Vinoda Ṭhākura says, He begged to get the holy names from Lord Caitanya and advised us to do so. I could not understand this. Requesting you to enlighten us.
—Your insignificant servant, Lalitāngi Rādha devī dāsī.
Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Caitanya gives out love of Kṛṣṇa freely without considering who deserves and who doesn’t. Some people may say, oh, I don’t deserve. It doesn’t matter! Lord Caitanya doesn’t consider who deserves – if you want it, He will give it. We should ask, we should pray, we should want it. If we don’t want it, why should He give us? Whether we deserve it or not, if we want it we can get it.
So that way, we should take the mercy of Lord Caitanya, pray for it. Hare Kṛṣṇa Lalitangi Radha.
Question: Guru Mahārāja, Who is more merciful, Mahāprabhu or Rādhārāṇī?
—Sukārtikī Rādhā devī dāsī.
Jayapatākā Swami: Who?
Well, Nitāi Gaura delivered Jagāi Madhāi. Rādhārāṇī is very merciful but She gives mercy to Her devotees. But Jagāi and Madhāi were not devotees but they still got the mercy. So I don’t know but it seems that Nitāi Gaura are more merciful. But anyway, Lord Gaurāṅga is the combined form of Kṛṣṇa and Rādhārāṇī. So, it may be the Rādhārāṇī part of Kṛṣṇa or Lord Caitanya that gives out the mercy. I can't really decide!
Question: Dear Guru Mahārāja (Guru Mahārāja said: Yes!) Please accept my humble obeisances (Guru Mahārāja: Yes!) All Glories to Śrīla Prabhupāda ! (Guru Mahārāja: Yes!) I was wondering what you recommend to your female disciples – is it better for them to be housewives and simply support their families, therefore promoting a Vaiṣṇavism lifestyle which is vital in ISKCON? Or is it better for them to pursue education and taking up some service opportunities in the movement?
Jayapatākā Swami: Yes! Next question.
Question: Dear spiritual father. Please accept my humble obeisances. I would like to express my thanks and gratitude for blessing me to study the Bhakti-śāstri course here in the holy dhāma Māyāpur. I will be going back to London soon, to Śrī Śrī Rādhā Londoniśvarā, but I should hopefully be back to do the Deity Worship course. Please bless me Guru Mahārāja , so that I can come back to do the Deity Worship course. I have the desire to cook for Kṛṣṇa, Guru Mahārāja, I would like to know, what is your favorite fruit?
—Your servant of servant of servant, your spiritual son, Amrit.
Jayapatākā Swami: Any fruit offered to Kṛṣṇa, is my favorite!
The ādhivāsa there is a line at the end that says, there is no limit to the spiritual bliss
ānandera sīmā nāhi,
ānandera sīmā nāhi,
ānandera sīmā nāhi,
nirānanda dure jāi,
nirānanda dure jāi,
nirānanda dure jāi !
I don’t see why, a lady cannot do, can be a wife and also can’t study! That’s what I suggest.
Some of our ladies have also Bhakti-śāstri , Bhakti-vaibhava and Bhakti-vedanta. So, you can do both.
You can study Śrīla Prabhupāda books and also be a wife.
Haribol!
Question: Dear Guru Mahārāja, Please accept my respectful obeisances, After the Sankarācārya sannyāsis turned to Lord Caitanya to follow Him, what was the complete result to this sannyāsa order?
Jayapatākā Swami: They chanted Hare Kṛṣṇa!
Alright!
