Śrī Kṛṣṇa Caitanya Book

mūkaṁ karoti vācālaṁ paṅguṁ laṅghayate girim
yat-kṛpā tam ahaṁ vande śrī-guruṁ dīna-tāraṇam
paramānandaṁ mādhavaṁ śrī caitanya iśvaram
hariḥ oṁ tat sat

I came at eight but there were some Purī pāṇḍās, they wanted to see me first, so like that I got delayed!

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 3.41

śunaha murāri-gupta, kahi mata sāra
veda-guhya kahi ei tomāra gocara

Jayapatākā Swami: (Guru Mahārāja started off in Bengali - Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu Murāri Gupta kāche bolchen ki ami vedera gupta artha tumar kache bolebo, ei hoiche samasta vedera sāra aṃsa, ekhon vedera vibhinna upadeśa āche!) Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu told Murāri Gupta that I will tell you the confidential meaning of the Vedas to you. That is the summary of all the Vedas. There are many instructions in the Vedas. Ha! Ha! Ha! English. I was just in Bangladesh! Ha! Ha!

So Murāri Gupta please listen, I will tell you the confidential essence of all the Vedic knowledge. I will disclose to you the secrets of the Vedas. So, to understand the real purport of the Vedas, we have to hear it from the bona fide spiritual master. The original spiritual master is Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu, Kṛṣṇa Himself. The Vedas may say that Kṛṣṇa has no eyes, but He can see everything. So, the Māyāvādīs, the impersonalists, they understand this in some superficial way that oh, the Absolute Truth has no eyes. Because Kṛṣṇa does not have material eyes, His eyes are transcendental, therefore He can see everything.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 3.42

āmi yajña-varāha—sakala-veda-sāra
āmi se karinu pūrve pṛthivī uddhāra

Jayapatākā Swami: I am Varāhadeva, the enjoyer of all sacrifices and the essence of all Vedic knowledge. It is I who have delivered the earth from falling into the bottom of the Garbodaka ocean and have put it back into its orbit. So, Lord Caitanya, He is describing to Murāri Gupta, that He is actually Varāhadeva or all the Viṣṇu avatāras are in Him. If you remember, in a previous līlā He manifested the form of Varāhadeva and He came out with hooves. If someone says that he is the Absolute Truth, let them show their universal form, or even let them show their form as Varāhadeva, and show how they can transform their legs into hooves! So, Lord Caitanya could assume the form of Varāhadeva, because He is Varāhadeva, He is all the Viṣṇu-tattvas, He is the Absolute Truth. He is the source of all the avatāras. And Himself, He is the most merciful of all avatāras! Therefore, He is considered the śiromaṇi of all the avatāras.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 3.43

prabhura nikata sevakare drava asahaniya

saṅkīrtana-ārambhe mohāra avatāra
bhakta-jana lāgi’ duṣṭa karimu saṁhāra

Jayapatākā Swami: I have descended from the spiritual world into this material world in order to inaugurate the saṅkīrtana movement. In order to protect the devotees, I will destroy the miscreants. The Lord, He came down from the Vaikuṇṭha or the spiritual world, in order to save His devotees, to start the saṅkīrtana movement, and when the demons put up obstacles in the path of the devotees, He will destroy them, one way or another. Sometimes He destroys the demonic mentality and makes them also devotees, and sometimes by some natural calamities, He destroys the envious miscreants, who are envious against the devotees.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 3.44-45

sevakera droha muñi sahite nā pāroṅputra
yadi haya mora, tathāpi saṁhāroṅ
putra kāṭoṅāpanāra sevaka lāgiyāmithyā
nāhi kahi gupta śuna mana diyā

Jayapatākā Swami: He said that I cannot tolerate the oppression of my devotees. I kill the oppressor, even if He is My son! I cut down my son for the sake of My servant. I am not telling a lie, oh Murāri Gupta, please listen attentively, I will reveal this secret to you.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 3.46

ye kāle karinu muñi pṛthivī-uddhāra
haila kṣitira garbha parśe āmāra

Jayapatākā Swami: The time when I delivered the earth by My touching her, she became pregnant. So mother earth prayed that “My Lord, when You delivered me from the bottom of the Garbodaka ocean, by Your touch I delivered a son, I gave birth to a son”.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 3.47

haila ’naraka’-nāme putra mahābala
āpane putrere dharma kahila sakala

Jayapatākā Swami: So mother earth, Bhūdevī, she told the Lord that I gave birth to a powerful son, he was having the name of Naraka and I personally taught him all the religious principles.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 3.48

mahārāja hailena āmāra nandana
deva-dvija-guru-bhakta karena pālana

Jayapatākā Swami: My son became a powerful king. He protected the devās, the demigods, the brāhmaṇas, the gurus, the devotees.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 3.49

daiva-doṣe tāhāra haila duṣṭa saṅga
bāṇera saṁsarge haila bhakta-drohe raṅga

Jayapatākā Swami: By the will of Providence, he came into bad association with Bānāsura, and he became converted into a demon, when he began to enjoy oppressing the devotees. So her son was good for a while, but then by bad association of Bānāsura, he started to oppress the devotees and take pleasure in doing so.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 3.50

sevakera hiṁsā mui nā pāroṅ sahite
kāṭinu āpana putra sevaka rākhite

Jayapatākā Swami: I cannot tolerate my own servants; my devotees being oppressed. So, I cut down My own son, to protect My devotees. So Kṛṣṇa, He cannot tolerate anyone having hatred to His devotees. He took the side of His devotees and fought against His own son.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 3.51

janame janame tumi seviyācha more
eteka sakala tattva kahila tomāre”

Jayapatākā Swami: Janame janame, you have served Me birth after birth. Therefore, I have delivered you, I have told you these supreme secrets.

Caitanya-Bhāgavata Madhya-khaṇḍa 3.52

śuniyā murāri gupta prabhura vacana
vihvala haiyā gupta karena krandana

Jayapatākā Swami: When Murāri Gupta heard the words of Lord Caitanya, he became astonished or overwhelmed, and he started to cry.

Murāri Gupta Kaḍaca 2.2.25

ambaṣṭhaḥ prāha bhagavan karunāṁ kartum arhasi
taṁ prāha bhagavān devaḥ premā mayi dayā-mayaḥ

Translation (Bengali): takhana vaidya balilena—“he bhagavan ! āmāra prati karuṇā prakāśe ājñā haya takhana dayāmaya bhagavān tāhāke balilena— ‘āmāte prema hauka—

Jayapatākā Swami: Is Acintya Caitanya here?

Translation: The physician said, "O Bhagavān, show Your mercy to me!" The merciful Bhagavān said, "Let you have love for Me."

Jayapatākā Swami: Haribol! He just gave Murāri Gupta kṛṣṇa-prema! Haribol! Haribol! Haribol! Haribol! Who wants kṛṣṇa-prema? Hari bol!

Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 1.108

tabe ta’ kahila vaidya kari paraṇāma
karuṇā karaha prabhu deha premadāna

Jayapatākā Swami: So, the physician, Murāri Gupta said to the Lord, I offer You my obeisances. Please have Your mercy on me. Lord,, give me the treasure of kṛṣṇa-prema!

Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 1.109

ṭhākura kahilā punaḥ-śunaha murāri
āmāre pīriti kara-ei premā tori

Jayapatākā Swami: So Caitanya Mahāprabhu said again, listen, Murāri Gupta, may you always love Me. Please listen, ecstatic spiritual love is yours. Kṛṣṇa-prema is yours! Haribol!

Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 1.110

bhajibe paramabrahma-narākṛti tanu
indranīla-varaṇa—tribhaṅga—kare veṇu

Jayapatākā Swami: You shall worship the Supreme Absolute Truth, with a human like form. He has the color of a blue sapphire. He has three-fold bending form, and He plays on the flute.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 1.111

navagorocanāgarbha garbabhaṅga-dyuti
vṛṣabhānusutā nāma—mūla ye prakṛti

Jayapatākā Swami: My original energy is known as Vṛṣabhānu's daughter. Her glorious complexion breaks the pride of the new cow – gorocanā the bright yellow of the cow.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 1.112

nava varāṅganā kata vallabī-vallabe
samarpibe nijatanu-nandasute pābe

Jayapatākā Swami: Young damsels who are countless, worship, offer theirselves to Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa, Vallabhī-Vallabha, and they offer their body in the service of Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa. Thus, they attain the son of Nanda Mahārāja.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 1.113

cintāmaṇi bhūmi ratnamandira sundara
kalpavṛkṣa ratna-vedī āsana upara

Jayapatākā Swami: The earth, the land is made of touch stone. The altar of the temple is made of jewels or gems, and they are very beautiful. The temple is surrounded by desire trees. The altar is made of beautiful gems. And the seat – the gem altar is placed over a beautiful āsana.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 1.114

kāmadhenu gaṇa tathā acintya prabhāva
abhīṣṭa kara
e pūrṇa-karae ye bhāva

Jayapatākā Swami: Special kāmadhenu cows are there. The cows that give milk nonstop, without any calf. These cows have inconceivable potencies. They satisfy and fulfill every desire that one has.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 1.115

tāra aṅga-chaṭā—nirākāra brahma bali'
jānibe e saba tattva kṛṣṇera mādhurī

Jayapatākā Swami: The effulgence of His body are actually the impersonal brahman. Know all these truths are present in the secret sweetness of Lord Kṛṣṇa.

Caitanya Maṅgala, Madhya-khaṇḍa 1.116

eimate saba bhakte balila ṭhākura
śuniñā sabhāra hiyā ānanda pracura

Jayapatākā Swami: So, all the devotees present were spoken to by Lord Gaurāṅga. And hearing His words, all the devotees felt their hearts filled with transcendental bliss.

Jayapatākā Swami: So we will stop here and continue tomorrow. Any questions? Yes. Best thing is write down the questions otherwise. Hear what she says.

Murāri Gupta was assured by the Lord who has instructed him to think about Lord Kṛṣṇa.

Question: Hare Kṛṣṇa Guru Mahārāja. Please accept my humble obeisances. If you could say a few words about Madhvācārya. Today is his disappearance day.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, we are in the Brahma Madhva-Gauḍīya sampradāya. One of the four sampradāyas mentioned in the Padma Purāṇa, that one has to receive their mantra, from one of these four sampradāya, Brahmā, Rudra, Kumāra and Lakṣmī. So Madhvācārya went to the Puṇḍarīka dhāma, to the Badrikāśrama and met Vyāsadeva and received the teaching from Vyāsadeva. So he became – Brahmā’s son was Nārada Muni, and his disciple was Vyāsadeva and Vyāsa’s disciple became Madhvācārya. So, like that Madhvācārya, he was very transcendental, he gave the system of dvaita, Absolute Truth and the devotees. Lord Caitanya accepted that acintya-bhedābheda-tattva – that’s inconceivable that simultaneously we are one and different from Lord Kṛṣṇa. So anyway, Lord Caitanya came in Madhvācārya’s disciplic succession as did Mādhavendra Purī. Mādhavendra Purī, his disciple was Īśvara Purī and Īśvara Purī ’s disciple was Lord Caitanya. So we are very grateful to Madhvācārya, for his giving us the teachings of Lord Kṛṣṇa, and in the Bhāgavatam his purport is sometimes mentioned by Śrīla Prabhupāda. So, on his disappearance day we would like to offer our praṇāma and obeisances to him. Some questions have come on internet. One by Haridvanī devī dāsī.

Question: Please accept my respectful obeisances. How important is it to acknowledge and appreciate someone’s service? It seems sometimes authorities neglect to do this, or else don’t do because they think maybe will cause pratiṣṭha?

Jayapatākā Swami: There are six ways of exchanging love in devotional service. One way is to glorify another devotee and accept a devotee’s appreciation. So we shouldn’t worry about making someone filled with some pratiṣṭha. That is not our worry, we like to glorify. The spiritual master may not do so, because it is not good if the spiritual master glorifies his disciple. But sometimes the spiritual master may do so. But there is no such restriction from other devotees to do so. And if we think someone is a good example, what is the harm in mentioning it?

How important it is to do so? In the Sīkṣāṣtakam by Lord Caitanya, in the third verse He said māna-dena amāninā, respect others but don’t expect respect for yourself. So you should give respect to others, that as Lord Caitanya’s instruction, but you should not desire respect for yourself – that is also His instruction. If you say, oh you are great, then you think, okay, now he will say I am great! That is not proper! We should not say without any interest. Hare Kṛṣṇa! Next question.

Question: Hare Kṛṣṇa Guru Mahārāja! (Jayapatākā Swami: HARE KṚṢṆA!) Please accept my respectful obeisances! It is very sweet hear the interaction between Murāri Gupta and Lord Caitanya. By His own lotus mouth Lord Caitanya is explaining the glories of Goloka Vṛndāvana and asking Murāri Gupta to worship Kṛṣṇa in the three-fold bending form and in blue sapphire color. But in Caitanya-caritāmṛta, we see that Murāri Gupta is not able to divert his attention from Lord Ramācandra to Lord Kṛṣṇa. is he already liberated or fixed up? That is my question. Why he is not able to do this?

Jayapatākā Swami: Why Murāri Gupta cannot carry out the order of Lord Caitanya? Is that your question?

Question: In Caitanya-caritāmṛta Murāri Gupta was not able to divert his worshipable form from Lord Ramācandra to Lord Kṛṣṇa’s form. So I just wanted to understand this.

Jayapatākā Swami: Come in tomorrow. We are having the class tomorrow. We will reveal what Murāri Gupta said. It is a secret. I am not saying today. If you don’t come tomorrow, you won’t know. You will be here tomorrow? There is a question in Bengali.

Question: Hare Kṛṣṇa Guru Mahārāja. Please accept my humble obeisances, Guru Mahārāja my question is how can we be in Kṛṣṇa conscious all the time? Triptīmayī Jhānavī devī dāsī, Śrī Māyāpur dhāma.

Jayapatākā Swami: Triptīmayī Jhānavī devī dāsī from Māyāpur dhāma! How can one stay always in in Kṛṣṇa consciousness? Triptīmayī Jhānavī devī dāsī, Śrīdhāma Māyāpur. If we follow Śrīla Prabhupada’s method, then one can stay in Kṛṣṇa consciousness all the time. Maṅgala-ārati, tulasī-pūjā, japā, guru-pūjā, Deity-darśana, circumambulation, Bhāgavatam class, all these ways we start our day in transcendental consciousness. So, by the mercy of Lord Caitanya, and by the mercy of Śrīla Prabhupada, it is not hard to stay always Kṛṣṇa conscious. Hare Kṛṣṇa!

Question: Hare Kṛṣṇa Guru Mahārāja, One devotee asked how his friend’s son can have vidyārambha ceremony done by your lotus hands?

Jayapatākā Swami: What did he say? Now is a busy time due to the various meetings. And right now we have the Māyāpur Board meeting and I don’t know if there is some day free. I can do vidyārambha if there is time. Or I can bless the items and someone else will do it. Either way. How old is the son or daughter? (He is almost three years.) So see when the meetings are over, I can do it.

A group from Chile is here. We want to offer them new year blessing! Haribol!

Thank you. I am ending. It is 9.19 now.
