Introduction: Today we are continuing reading for the compilation of Caitanya līlā book, the chapter entitled is:

Prayers to Lord Nityānanda offered by Advaita Ācārya

Under the section: The Pastimes of Nityānanda

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.469

śāntipure advaitagṛhe śrī-nityānanda o prabhudvayera kṛṣṇa-premonmāda—

tabe kata-dine āilena śāntipure
ācārya-gosāñi priya-vigrahera ghare

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Nityānanda came to Śāntipura and there at the house of Advaita Ācārya Gosāñi to this vigraha-mandira,to the  dear Deities' mandira.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.470

dekhiyā advaita nityānandera śrī-mukha
hena nāhi jānena janmila kona sukha

Jayapatākā Swami: When Advaita saw Lord Nityānanda’s divine face, He did not know what kind of happiness appeared. The happiness that Advaita Ācārya experienced by seeing the divine face of Lord Nityānanda was so wonderful, that it was a wonderful experience.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.471

‘hari’ bali’ lāgilena karite huṅkāra
pradakṣiṇa daṇḍavata karena apāra

Jayapatākā Swami: “Hari Bol!,” Advaita Gosāñi began roaring out loud and offering His prostrate obeisances, He circumambulated Lord Nityānanda and repeatedly offered Him obeisances.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.472

nityānanda-svarūpa advaita kari’ kole
siñcilena aṅga tāna premānanda-jale

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Nityānanda Svarūpa took Advaita Ācārya on His lap and embraced Him, He soaked His body with tears  of loving, blissful happiness.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.43

doṅhe doṅhā dekhi’ baḍa hailā vivaśa
janmila ananta anirvacanīya rasa

Jayapatākā Swami: They both became overwhelmed upon looking at each other, and there arose in Them unlimited, indescribable ecstasy.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.474

doṅhe doṅhā dhari’ gaḍi’ yāyena aṅgane
doṅhe cāhe dharibāre doṅhāra caraṇe

Jayapatākā Swami: They held each other and rolled on the ground in the courtyard, and each one tried to grab the other’s Lotus feet.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.475

koṭi siṁha jini’ doṅhe kare siṁha-nāda
samvaraṇa nahe dui-prabhura unmāda

Jayapatākā Swami: The two roared more loudly than millions of lions, and both the Lords' transcendental madness could not be controlled.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.476

tabe kata-kṣaṇe dui-prabhu hailā sthira
vasilena eka-sthāne dui mahādhīra

Jayapatākā Swami: Then after a while the two Lords became peaceful. The two most steady Lords sat down in one place.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.477

advaita-kartṛka nityānandera stuti —

kara-yoḍa kariyā advaita mahāmati
santoṣe karena nityānanda-prati stuti

Jayapatākā Swami: The broad-minded Advaita Ācārya with folded hands happily, with great satisfaction, He offered prayers to Lord Nityānanda.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.478

“tumi nityānanda-mūrti nityānanda-nāma
mūrtimanta tumi caitanyera guṇa-dhāma

Jayapatākā Swami: “Your form is Nityānanda (eternal bliss), and Your name is Nityānanda (eternal bliss). You are the personification of Lord Caitanya’s transcendental qualities.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.479

sarva-jīva-paritrāṇa tumi mahā-hetu
mahā-pralayete tumi satya-dharma-setu

Jayapatākā Swami: “All the living entities’ deliverance happens because of You being the ultimate cause. During the great annihilation You are the true bridge of religious principles.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.480

tumi se bujhāo caitanyera prema-bhakti
tumi se caitanya-vṛkṣe dhara pūrṇa-śakti

Jayapatākā Swami: “You understand Lord Caitanya’s devotional service in ecstatic love. You have the full potency of the Lord Caitanya tree.

In the Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Lord Caitanya explains how He is the tree, and He is the Gardener, and that He wants to give the fruit of the tree, love of Kṛṣṇa to everyone. But if He does it alone, may be some will get and someone will not get. So He is asking all the living entities of the universe to help Him distribute these fruits of love of Kṛṣṇa!

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.481

brahmā-śiva-nāradādi ’bhakta’ nāma yāṅra
tumi se parama upadeṣṭā sabākāra

Jayapatākā Swami: “You are the Supreme instructor of all the devotees who have bhakti, mainly, Brahmā, Śiva, and Nārada.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.482

viṣṇu-bhakti sabei pāyena tomā haite
tathāpiha abhimāna nā sparśe tomāte

Jayapatākā Swami: “Viṣṇu bhakti everyone attains from You, by Your mercy. Still, You are never touched by pride.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.483

patita-pāvana tumi doṣa-dṛṣṭi-śūnya
tomāre se jāne yāra āche bahu puṇya

Jayapatākā Swami: “You are patita-pāvana, the deliverer of the fallen souls. You do not see the faults in others. One who knows You, has heaps of piety.

So, Lord Nityānanda is the first expansion of Lord Caitanya and He gives out the mercy of Lord Caitanya freely. So, in some places they call Lord Nityānanda as the mercy-avatāra, and Lord Caitanya as the prema-avatāra. But Lord Nityānanda’s mercy is that He gives out Kṛṣṇa-prema and He does not see who is qualified or not, He gives it freely to everyone.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5. 484

sarva-yajña-maya ei vigraha tomāra
avidyā-bandhana khaṇḍe smaraṇe yāṅhāra

Jayapatākā Swami: Your form is the personification of all transcendental sacrifice. Simply by remembering You, all bondage of ignorance is destroyed.

Purport: While glorifying Śrī Nityānanda Prabhu, Śrī Advaita Prabhu said, “You are the deliverer of the fallen souls, and You do not find any faults in the distressed. No one other than the most pious person can understand You. You are the personification of all sacrifice. Simply by remembering You, all bondage of ignorance is destroyed.”

Jayapatākā Swami: Jaya Nitāi! Jaya Nitāi!

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.485

yadi tumi prakāśa nā kara’ āpanāre
tabe kāra śakti āche jānite tomāre?

Jayapatākā Swami: “If You do not manifest Yourself to someone, then who will have the power to know You?

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.486

akrodha paramānanda tumi maheśvara
sahasra-vadana-ādi deva mahīdhara

Jayapatākā Swami: “You are free from anger, You are supremely blissful, and You are the ultimate controller. You are the thousand-headed original Lord who holds the universe.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.487

rakṣa-kula-hantā tumi śrī-lakṣmaṇa-candra
tumi gopa-putra haladhara mūrtimanta

Jayapatākā Swami: “You are the destroyer of the demoniac dynasty, You are Śrī Lakṣmaṇa Candra, You are the son of a cowherd, the transcendental form of Haladhara.

Lord Nityānanda, He was Balarāma in Kṛṣṇa -līlā and in Rāma līlā He was Lakṣmaṇa and in Caitanya līlā He is Lord Nityānanda.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.488

mūrkha nīca adhama patita uddhārite
tumi avatīrṇa haiyācha pṛthivīte

Jayapatākā Swami: “You have incarnated, have descended in this world, to deliver the foolish, lowly, wretched and fallen souls.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.489

ye bhakti vāñchaye yogeśvara muni-gaṇe
tomā haite tāhā pāibeka ye-te jane”

Jayapatākā Swami: “That devotional service desired by the best of the mystic yogīs and sages will be obtained by anyone and everyone from You by Your mercy.”

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.490

kahite advaita nityānandera mahimā
ānanda-āveśe pāsarilena āpanā

Jayapatākā Swami: As Advaita Ācārya glorified some of the glories of Lord Nityānanda,  He became so much absorbed in transcendental bliss that He forgot Himself.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.491

nityānanda-prabhāva o advaita—

advaita se jñātā nityānandera prabhāva
e marma jānaye kona kona mahābhāga

Jayapatākā Swami: Advaita Ācārya is the knower of the great influence of Lord Nityānanda, and the most fortunate, rare souls know this secret.

The glories of Lord Nityānanda Prabhu are very confidential, that some rare soul who knows this power and influence of Lord Nityānanda, is very fortunate.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.492

ubhayera kondala parānanda tātparyamaya—

tabe ye kalaha hera anyo’nye bāje
se kevala parānanda, yadi jane bujhe

Jayapatākā Swami: But the quarrels which are sometimes seen between Them are nothing but sources of transcendental happiness, if one can understand them.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.493

advaitera vākya bujhibāra śakti kāra?
jāniha īśvara-sane bheda nāhi yāṅra

Jayapatākā Swami: Who has the power to understand the prayers of Advaita Ācārya? Know for certain that He is nondifferent from the Supreme Lord.

Know for certain that He is non-different from the Supreme Lord.

Purport: See the verse advaitaṁ hariṇādvaitād from Śrī Svarūpa Dāmodara’s notebook [and quoted here also) in Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Ādi-līlā, Chapter One, verse 13].

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.494

ubhayera kṛṣṇa-kathā-maṅgala-prasaṅge divasa-yāpana—

hena mate dui prabhuvara mahāraṅge
viharena kṛṣṇa-kathā-maṅgala-prasaṅge

Jayapatākā Swami: In this way the two best of Lords relished in great transcendental bliss the auspicious topics regarding Lord Kṛṣṇa.

Caitanya Bhāgavata, Antya-khaṇḍa 5.495

aneka rahasya kari’ advaita-sahita
aśeṣa prakāre tāna janmāilā prīta

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Nityānanda exchanged many mysteries with Advaita Ācārya and unlimitedly built up His love.

So, the confidential discussions between Lord Nityānanda and Lord Adavita regarding Lord Kṛṣṇa help simply to build up on the natural love for Lord Advaita Ācārya.
