Hariḥ oṁ tat sat!

Hare Kṛṣṇa! Dear Devotees! Today is the compilation of Caitanya līlā book, the chapter today is entitled:

Destruction of the Pride of Brahmā Who Came to See the Opulence of Lord Kṛṣṇa, Part 2

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 21.81

dekhi’ caturmukha brahmāra haila camatkāra
kṛṣṇera caraṇe āsi’ kailā namaskāra

Translation: After observing all these opulences, the four-headed Brahmā of this universe was astonished. He again came before the lotus feet of Kṛṣṇa and offered Him obeisances.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, when Brahmā saw there are so many other Brahmās from other universes, all coming and offering their obeisances to Lord Kṛṣṇa, he was astonished and humbled. He came before Kṛṣṇa to offer Him obeisances.

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 21.82

brahmā bale,—pūrve āmi ye niścaya kariluṅ
tāra udāharaṇa āmi āji ta’ dekhiluṅ

Translation: Brahmā then said, ‘Whatever I formerly decided about my knowledge I have just now had personally verified.

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 21.83

jānanta eva jānantu kiṁ bahūktyā na me prabho
manaso vapuṣo vāco vaibhavaṁ tava gocaraḥ

Translation: ‘There are people who say, I know everything about Kṛṣṇa.” Let them think in that way. As far as I am concerned, I do not wish to speak very much about this matter. O my Lord, let me say this much. As far as Your opulences are concerned, they are all beyond the reach of my mind, body and words.’

Purport: This is a quotation from Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam (10.14.38), spoken by Lord Brahmā.

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Brahmā could understand that Kṛṣṇa's opulences are totally beyond his ability to conceive, what to speak of describe.

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 21.84

kṛṣṇa kahe, ei brahmāṇḍa pañcāśat koṭi yojana
ati kṣudra, tāte tomāra cāri vadana

Translation: Kṛṣṇa said, ‘Your particular universe has a diameter of four billion miles; therefore it is the smallest of all the universes. Consequently you have only four heads.

Purport: Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura, one of the greatest astrologers of his time, gives information from the Siddhānta-śiromaṇi that this universe measures 18,712,069,200,000,000 × 8 miles. This is the circumference of this universe. According to some, this is only half the circumference.

Jayapatākā Swami: Although this universe is quite large, but according to Kṛṣṇa it is smallest of all the universes. We have no ability to know even of our universe, what to speak of describing the other universes. That’s completely beyond the observation of the modern scientist that’s why the Vedic knowledge is the higher science. They have described different dimensions of the universe.

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 21.85

kona brahmāṇḍa śata-koṭi, kona lakṣa-koṭi
kona niyuta-koṭi, kona koṭi-koṭi

Translation: ‘Some of the universes are one billion yojanas in diameter, some one trillion, some ten trillion and some one hundred trillion yojanas. Thus they are almost unlimited in area.

Purport: A yojana equals eight miles.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, modern science is very proud of their observations, but we can see from this description by Lord Kṛṣṇa that we are in the smallest universe. And that the other universes which are many many times larger, and we have no way to understand what is in the rest of the creation or cosmos. But by this descending knowledge from the Vedas, we can understand that there are many other universes and that they are of different sizes.

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 21.86

brahmāṇḍānurūpa brahmāra śarīra-vadana
ei-rūpe pāli āmi brahmāṇḍera gaṇa

Translation: ‘According to the size of the universe, there are so many heads on the body of Brahmā. In this way I maintain innumerable universes [brahmāṇḍas].

Jayapatākā Swami: Brahmā is the first created living entity in every universe and the universe stays as long as he is alive. But he has many heads as needed to manage the universal affairs. He is like the universal intelligence. But Kṛṣṇa runs all these and more unlimited millions of universes, it is just one-fourth of His potency and three fourths is eternal spiritual sky. Everything is within Kṛṣṇa's transcendental body.

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 21.87

‘eka-pāda vibhūti’ ihāra nāhi parimāṇa
‘tri-pāda vibhūti’ra kebā kare parimāṇa”

Translation: ‘No one can measure the length and breadth of the one fourth of My energy manifested in the material world. Who then can measure the three fourths that is manifested in the spiritual world?’

Jayapatākā Swami: Here Lord Kṛṣṇa explains the whole material world with its unlimited millions of universes is so large that even no one can measure or estimate the length and breadth of these universes, which are one-fourth of My energy, what to speak of the three-fourths of the energy that I manifest as the spiritual world. So our Kṛṣṇa consciousness is meant to transfer the people from this material world to the eternal spiritual sky by the process of this age, the process of sacrifice is chanting the holy names, through which one can change his or her consciousness and go back to the spiritual world.

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 21.88

tasyāḥ pāre para-vyoma tripād-bhūtaṁ sanātanam
amṛtaṁ śāśvataṁ nityam anantaṁ paramaṁ padam

Translation: ‘Beyond the river Virajā is the spiritual nature, which is indestructible, eternal, inexhaustible and unlimited. It is the supreme abode, consisting of three fourths of the Lord’s opulences. It is known as paravyoma, the spiritual sky.”’

Purport: This is a verse from the Padma Purāṇa, quoted here by Lord Kṛṣṇa.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, beyond this material world, is the paravyoma of the spiritual sky, which we are trying to convince people that they should go there, and not stay here in this world of repeated birth and death. repeated birth and death.

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 21.89

kṛṣṇa-vaibhava-durjñeya :—

tabe kṛṣṇa brahmāre dilena vidāya
kṛṣṇera vibhūti-svarūpa jānāna nā yāya

Translation: In this way Lord Kṛṣṇa bade farewell to the four-headed Brahmā of this universe. We may thus understand that no one can calculate the extent of Kṛṣṇa’s energies.

Jayapatākā Swami: Although Lord Kṛṣṇa takes His birth as a person in the material world, He is actually transcendental, His form as sac-cid-ānanda, and just appears like human being to the people of this world. Actually, some of the scriptures mention that human beings are made after the form of God. So, it is not surprising that Kṛṣṇa has a human like form, but we cannot estimate how much power and how much energy, He has, He reciprocates the loving sentiments of His devotees. By being His servitor or friend we can achieve the highest, highest benediction So, Lord Brahmā who once was a living entity, he wanted to see things from the point of view of Brahmā, Lord Brahmā said that, I can give you that benedictions, but I don’t know what will happen because Brahmā he had four head in this universe, if he puts all that information in one head, what will happen . So, then the person said alright, he did that and his head exploded and he died on the spot in Brahmā consciousness.

Thus ends the chapter entitled, Destruction of the Pride of Brahmā Who Came to See the Opulence of Lord Kṛṣṇa,
Under the section: The Opulence and Sweetness of Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa
