The Three-Fourths Part of Lord Kṛṣṇa’s Energy Part 2

Caitanya-Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 21.41

Brahma-saṁhitāya (5.44)—

yasyaika-niśvasita-kālam athāvalambya
jīvanti loma-vila-jā jagad-aṇḍa-nāthāḥ
viṣṇur mahān sa iha yasya kalā-viśeṣo
govindam ādi-puruṣaṁ tam ahaṁ bhajāmi

Translation: “‘The Brahmās and other lords of the mundane worlds appear from the pores of Mahā-Viṣṇu and remain alive for the duration of His one exhalation. I adore the primeval Lord, Govinda, of whom Mahā-Viṣṇu is a portion of a plenary portion.’

Purport: His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda This is a quotation from the Brahma-saṁhitā (5.48). See also Ādi-līlā 5.71.

Jayapatākā Swami: Mahā-Viṣṇu manifests all the unlimited millions of universes and all the Brahmās, the controlling Lords of the material world and all the living entities they stay alive for His one breath. One day of Brahmā is a thousand catur-yugas. One catur-yuga is 4,32,00,00 years, so a thousand of those is one Brahmā's day and equal time is one of Brahmā's night and He lives like this for hundred years.

Caitanya-Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 21.42

(c) kṛṣṇādhīnadhāmagata 3ya (guhya) artha:—

ei artha—madhyama, śuna ‘gūḍha’ artha āra
tina āvāsa-sthāna kṛṣṇera śāstre khyāti yāra

Translation: “This is the middle meaning. Now please hear the confidential meaning. Lord Kṛṣṇa has three places of residence, which are well known from the revealed scriptures.

Purport: His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda Kṛṣṇa has three abodes — His internal abode (Goloka Vṛndāvana), His intermediate abode (the spiritual sky) and His external abode (this material world).

Caitanya-Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 21.43

(1) antarāvāsa goloka-vṛndāvana-varṇana:—

‘antaḥpura’—goloka-śrī-vṛndāvana
yāhāṅ nitya-sthiti mātā-pitā-bandhu-gaṇa

Translation: “The internal abode is called Goloka Vṛndāvana. It is there that Lord Kṛṣṇa’s personal friends, associates, father and mother live.

Jayapatākā Swami: Lord Kṛṣṇa's eternal pastimes are manifested in Goloka Vṛndāvana, devotees in sakhya, vātsalya and mādhurya-rasa are relating with Kṛṣṇa in His eternal dhāma.

Caitanya-Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 21.44

madhuraiśvarya-mādhurya-kṛpādi-bhāṇḍāra
yogamāyā dāsī yāhāṅ rāsādi līlā-sāra

Translation: “Vṛndāvana is the storehouse of Kṛṣṇa’s mercy and the sweet opulences of conjugal love. That is where the spiritual energy, working as a maidservant, exhibits the rāsa dance, the quintessence of all pastimes.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, what is special about is Goloka Vṛndāvana is mentioned here.

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 21.45

gosvāmipādokta-śloka—

karuṇā-nikuramba-komale
madhuraiśvarya-viśeṣa-śālini
jayati vraja-rāja-nandane
na hi cintā-kaṇikābhyudeti naḥ

Translation: “‘Vṛndāvana-dhāma is very soft due to the mercy of the Supreme Lord, and it is especially opulent due to conjugal love. The transcendental glories of the son of Mahārāja Nanda are exhibited here. Under the circumstances, not the least anxiety is awakened within us.’

Jayapatākā Swami: So, Kṛṣṇa's pastimes, His mercy are fully manifested in Vṛndāvana dhāma.

Haribol! Vṛndāvana dhāma ki! Jay !

Caitanya-Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 21.46

(2) madhyamāvāsa viṣṇuloka vaikuṇṭha-varṇana:—

tāra tale paravyoma—‘viṣṇuloka’-nāma
nārāyaṇa-ādi ananta svarūpera dhāma

Translation: “Below the Vṛndāvana planet is the spiritual sky, which is known as Viṣṇuloka. In Viṣṇuloka there are innumerable Vaikuṇṭha planets controlled by Nārāyaṇa and innumerable other expansions of Kṛṣṇa.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, residents of Vaikuṇṭha worship the Lord with awe and reverence, prominent the are relationships of dāsya and śānta and sākhya with respect.

Caitanya-Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 21.47

‘madhyama-āvāsa’ kṛṣṇera—ṣaḍ-aiśvarya-bhāṇḍāra
ananta svarūpe yāhāṅ karena vihāra

Translation: “The spiritual sky, which is full in all six opulences, is the intermediate residence of Lord Kṛṣṇa. It is there that an unlimited number of forms of Kṛṣṇa enjoy Their pastimes.

Jayapatākā Swami: So in the Vaikuṇṭha planets, Kṛṣṇa is enjoying different kinds of pastimes in His form as Nārāyaṇa.

Caitanya-Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 21.48

ananta vaikuṇṭha yāhāṅ bhāṇḍāra-koṭhari
pāriṣada-gaṇe ṣaḍ-aiśvarye āche bhari

Translation: “Innumerable Vaikuṇṭha planets, which are just like different rooms of a treasure-house, are all there, filled with all opulences. Those unlimited planets house the Lord’s eternal associates, who are also enriched with the six opulences.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, the six opulences, the various rasas and pastimes of the Lord are present in the Vaikuṇṭha dhāma.

Caitanya-Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 21.49

Brahma-saṁhitāya (5.43)—

goloka-nāmni nija-dhāmni tale ca tasya
devī-maheśa-hari-dhāmasu teṣu teṣu
te te prabhāva-nicayā vihitāś ca yena
govindam ādi-puruṣaṁ tam ahaṁ bhajāmi

Translation: “‘Below the planet named Goloka Vṛndāvana are the planets known as Devī-dhāma, Maheśa-dhāma and Hari-dhāma. These are opulent in different ways. They are managed by the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Govinda, the original Lord. I offer my obeisances unto Him.’

Purport: His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda This is a quotation from the Brahma-saṁhitā (5.43).

Jayapatākā Swami: Śrīla Prabhupāda he asked us to show this four dhāmas, Devī-dhāma, Maheśa-dhāma, Hari-dhāma and Goloka-Vṛndāvana-dhāma to show these in the Temple Of Vedic Planetarium as part of cosomology of the creation of the four dhāmas.

Caitanya-Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 21.50

virajāra avasthāna-varṇana:— Pādmottarakhaṇḍe (255.57)—

pradhāna-parama-vyomnor antare virajā nadī
vedāṅga-sveda-janitais toyaiḥ prasrāvitā śubhā

Translation: “‘Between the spiritual and the material world is a body of water known as the river Virajā. This water is generated from the bodily perspiration of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, who is known as Vedāṅga. Thus the river flows.’

Purport: His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda This verse and the following verse are from the Padma Purāṇa.

Caitanya-Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 21.51

tasyāḥ pāre para-vyoma
tri-pād-bhūtaṁ sanātanam

amṛtaṁ śāśvataṁ nityam
anantaṁ paramaṁ padam

Translation: “‘Beyond the river Virajā is the spiritual nature, which is indestructible, eternal, inexhaustible and unlimited. It is the supreme abode, consisting of three fourths of the Lord’s opulences. It is known as paravyoma, the spiritual sky.’

Purport: His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda In the spiritual sky there is neither anxiety nor fear. It is eternally existing, and it consists of three fourths of the Lord’s energy. The material world is an exhibition of only one fourth of the Lord’s energy. Therefore it is called eka-pāda-vibhūti.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, most of the jīvas are residents of the spiritual abodes, those who are rebellious or having some separate desire are existing in the material world, which is only one-fourth of the potency of the Lord. The purpose of human life is to go back to the spiritual world. Unfortunately many people remain in the material world because they have no information about the spiritual world.

Caitanya-Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 21.52 (3)

vāhyāvāsa devīdhāmai jīva-bhoga-kṣetra māyārājya –

tāra tale ‘bāhyāvāsa’ virajāra pāra
ananta brahmāṇḍa yāhāṅ koṭhari apāra

Translation: “On the other side of the river Virajā is the external abode, which is full of unlimited universes, each containing unlimited atmospheres.

Jayapatākā Swami: This is looking from the point of view of the Spiritual universe, so in the spiritual world on the other side of the Virajā is the material world and the material world has unlimited universes. We are in one universe, in one planet with a particular atmosphere but every planet has an atmosphere and the living entities are living on each planet, with different constitutions adapted to the different atmospheres.

Caitanya-Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 21.53

‘devī-dhāma’ nāma tāra, jīva yāra vāsī
jagal-lakṣmī rākhi’ rahe yāhāṅ māyā dāsī

Translation: “The abode of the external energy is called Devī-dhāma, and its inhabitants are the conditioned souls. It is there that the material energy, Durgā, resides with many opulent maidservants.

Purport:His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda Because he wants to enjoy the material energy, the conditioned soul is allowed to reside in Devī-dhāma, the external energy, where goddess Durgā carries out the orders of the Supreme Lord as His maidservant. The material energy is called jagal-lakṣmī because she protects the bewildered conditioned souls. Goddess Durgā is therefore known as the material mother, and Lord Śiva, her husband, is known as the material father. Goddess Durgā is so named because this material world is like a big fort where the conditioned soul is placed under her care. For material facilities, the conditioned soul tries to please goddess Durgā, and mother Durgā supplies all kinds of material facilities. Because of this, the conditioned souls are allured and do not wish to leave the external energy. Consequently they are continuously making plans to live here peacefully and happily. Such is the material world.

Jayapatākā Swami: Although we are making such plans, this material world is a place of suffering where everyone is forced to die. In the spiritual world people are eternal, no one dies. So actually we are hankering to be in the spiritual world but due to illusion we remain in the material world, where there is simply danger at every step.

Caitanya-Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 21.54

ei tina dhāmera haya kṛṣṇa adhīśvara
goloka-paravyoma—prakṛtira para

Translation: “Kṛṣṇa is the supreme proprietor of all dhāmas, including Goloka-dhāma, Vaikuṇṭha-dhāma and Devī-dhāma. The paravyoma and Goloka-dhāma are beyond Devī-dhāma, this material world.

Purport: His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda When a living entity is liberated from Devī-dhāma but does not know of the opulence of Hari-dhāma, he is placed in Maheśa-dhāma, which is between the other two dhāmas. The liberated soul does not get an opportunity to serve the Supreme Personality of Godhead there; therefore although this Maheśa-dhāma is Lord Śiva’s dhāma and above Devī-dhāma, it is not the spiritual world. The spiritual world begins with Hari-dhāma, or Vaikuṇṭhaloka.

Jayapatākā Swami: So, here the position of Maheśa-dhāma is described, it is between Devī dhāma and Hari dhāma. if one does special worship of Lord Śiva, he may end up in Maheśa-dhāma, which is above Devī-dhāma but it is not Hari-dhāma. So, we actually want to reach Hari-dhāma or Goloka Vṛndāvana where we can serve directly Lord Kṛṣṇa.

Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 21.55

śuddha-sattvamaya cicchakti-vilāsa tadrūpa-vaibhava—

kṛṣṇera tripāda-vibhūti, devīdhāma—ekapāda-vibhūti:—

cic-chakti-vibhūti-dhāma—tripād-aiśvarya-nāma
māyika vibhūti—eka-pāda abhidhāna

Translation: “The spiritual world is considered to be three fourths of the energy and opulence of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, whereas this material world is only one fourth of that energy. That is our understanding.

Purport: His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda Hari-dhāma (paravyoma) and Goloka Vṛndāvana are beyond the material cosmic manifestation. They are celebrated as three fourths of the Lord’s energy. The material world, conducted by the Supreme Lord’s external energy, is called Devī-dhāma and is a manifestation of one fourth of His energy.

Jayapatākā Swami: The material scientists are not aware of the existence of the Spiritual sky, or even of the existence of the higher planets in the material world because their science is only depending on what they can observe. Vedic science takes information of the Lords spiritual world and thus this type of science can tell us unlimited truth and not limited to be reobserved, there is no other way to know the truth.

Caitanya-Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 21.56

tripāda-vibhūti—māyātītā o ekapāda-vibhūti māyika:—

Laghu-Bhāgavatāmṛte (1.563)

tri-pād-vibhūter dhāmatvāt
tri-pād-bhūtaṁ hi tat padam
vibhūtir māyikī sarvā
proktā pādātmikā yataḥ

Translation: “‘Because it consists of three fourths of the Lord’s energy, the spiritual world is called tri-pād-vibhūti. Being a manifestation of one fourth of the Lord’s energy, the material world is called eka-pāda.’

Purport:His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda This verse is found in the Laghu-bhāgavatāmṛta (1.5.563).

Jayapatākā Swami: Here the relevant size and potency of each dhāma, the spiritual abodes, is known as three fourth energy and the material abode which is unlimited million of universes which is known as eka-pāda vibhūti.

Caitanya-Caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 21.57

ekapāda-vibhūti devīdhāmera varṇana:—

tripāda-vibhūti kṛṣṇera—vākya-agocara
eka-pāda vibhūtira śunaha vistāra

Translation: “The three-fourths part of Lord Kṛṣṇa’s energy is beyond our speaking power. Let us therefore hear elaborately about the remaining one fourth of His energy.

Jayapatākā Swami: The paravyoma or the spiritual world is inconceivable for us. So, Lord Caitanya’s is saying to Sanātana Gosvāmī, lets first talk about material world which we can to some extent see.

Haribol!

Thus ends the chapter entitled, The Three-Fourths Part of Lord Kṛṣṇa’s Energy, Part 2 Under the section: The Opulence and Sweetness of Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa
