Introduction: So we are continuing with the compilation of the Śrī Kṛṣṇa Caitanya book. Lord Caitanya has informed the devotees, that He plans to leave home and take sannyāsa. So, they are all lamenting, but at the same time Lord Caitanya said, “I need Kṛṣṇa, I am like a fish out of water, I am like a girl who has no husband”, and He gave different examples, how He was suffering, and He had to leave. So, it seems that His departure is something very esoteric. Actually, the Lord, He said, He had three reasons for coming. The first reason was to establish the Harināma-saṅkīrtana, and to deliver the fallen souls. The second reason was to experience the love of His devotees – how His devotees loved Him. So it seems that while He was doing that a little bit, now He is going into that more and more, and fully absorbed as a devotee, hankering for Kṛṣṇa. Also, in the Vedas it is predicted that the Lord will come, spend 24 years as a gṛhastha, and 24 years as a sannyāsī, so He is also fulfilling that prediction, now we are continuing the chapter:

Jayapatākā Swami: Śacī’s heart throbbed, for her heart, there was no peace.

locana bole hena, premāra sāgara,
kemane cāhe chāḍite

Jayapatākā Swami: Locana dāsa says, how can Lord Gaurāṅga want to leave such an ocean of spiritual love?

So, everyone knew that Lord Caitanya wanted to take sannyāsa, and in His mind, He had already taken sannyāsa. But His mother didn’t know, but somehow, she felt anxiety, and her heart was throbbing. She felt something was wrong. Actually, Śrīla Prabhupāda advised that if your wife is cooperative, she is helping you in your spiritual life, you should not give her up, no need to take sannyāsa. And here, Lord Caitanya, He had a loving wife, a loving mother, so by ordinary calculations, there were no reasons for Him to give up. But He has His līlā, He has His pastimes, and so He decided to take sannyāsa for various reasons, and this is teaching us, for the welfare of everyone.

Actually, for the devotees, we don’t like to see Lord Caitanya take sannyāsa. Sannyāsa means austerity, renunciation, the Lord had nothing to achieve. He is perfect in all respects. We need sannyāsa, to do austerity, penance, He doesn’t need it. But He is doing it to teach us, He is doing it out of love. So how much we should be indebted to Lord Caitanya. That’s why we don’t worship Lord Caitanya as a sannyāsī. Śrīla Prabhupāda said, that just like if your father was tortured in the Holocaust, you don’t want to see the picture of your father being tortured, you want to see a picture of him in some happy mood. Like that, devotees of Lord Caitanya, want to see Lord Caitanya with His associates, and Navadvīpa dhāma. They don’t want to see Him as a sannyāsī. Hare Kṛṣṇa!
