20130323 Talk about Gaura-līlā

Following is a talk given by his Holiness Jayapataka Swami Maharaj on March 23rd 2013 in Sridham Mayapur. The talk was given during the Gaur Katha seminar on day 2 on the Lotus building roof top. 

Jayapataka Swami Maharaj: So where is the Bengali? So first 3 minutes I have to speak Bengali for the Om Bangla TV channel and after that the class will go on in English. (Speaks in Bengali) 

Hari Bol. So have you all understood? Where we are going tomorrow? - Shantipur. That’s the place where Advaita did his tapasya. He worshipped the shaligram sila, offering Ganges water & Tulsi leaf & loudly chanted Gaura Hari Gaura Hari Hari bol Hari bol Nitai Nitai. Like this he was chanting, he wanted to bring the Lords down. He was crying. He was fasting. He was chanting aloud and offering water & tulsi leaf. Water of the Ganges. So there he received the confirmation that Krishna would descend. And he was so happy, that the lord had listened to him and agreed to come down. 

He’s an expansion of the Lord. He is the Maha Vishnu and also the form of Shiva before he enters the material world. So He is non-different from Krishna. But he can give liberation. Krishna can give love of Krishna. So how many here would like to have love of Krishna. (Devotees saying Hari bol). You know what you are getting into? Love of Krishna. And very much thinking of him all the time. And the residents of Vrindavan had said that Brahma had made a big mistake. He caused the eyelashes to blink. That was interfering in seeing Krishna uninterruptedly. So they said that Brahma didn’t design appropriate eyes. Because they wanted to see Krishna interruptedly all the time. 

So Lord Caitanya he came down but didn’t tell where he was coming. That he came, that he told later. So sometimes he was sent by mother Saci to get his elder brother, Visvarup Das who was listening to the class of Advaita Gosai. So he would pull his brother by his shirt and say “You have to go home, Mother cooked for u.” But he wanted to hear the class. So like this Lord Caitanya then he sat down for a while. So when Lord Caitanya was older, he told the brother of Srivas - Ram Pandit,”You go and tell Lord Advaita” whom he has fasted ,“Fasting means no eating. ““That person for whom he loudly chanted. That person whom he had cried for. That person whom he worshipped Shaligram sila with Tulsi & water. Water of the Ganges. That person is here. Yes he is here.”  (forcing)

So Ram Pandit walked away to the house of Advaita. But he didn’t know exactly where he was. So somehow he found him. He found him. He was in the courtyard. And there was Advaita Gosai worshipping his Shaligram sila and Advaita he jumped out and started dancing, “He came he came he came. I made him to descend. I made him to descend.” Then he gathered himself and he then acted like nothing happened. “What brings you here? What do you want? So ram pandit gave him a message. “That person for whom you fasted, that person for whom you loudly chanted the holy name for, that person whom you worshipped Sali gram Sila with Tulsi & Ganges water, that person whom you cried for. That person is now here in Navadvip. Advaita then started dancing. 

“I brought him I brought him I brought him. He came down he came down he came down hari bol hari bol hari bol hari bol” (devotees chanting). Suddenly Advaita became very grave. “Many people knew I did this tapasya. How do you know they are telling the truth. How do I know this is my Lord? I will hide in the village. I won’t go out and if he’s my lord he will call me. And I will offer obeisances. If he’s my lord he will put his lotus feet on my head and I will look up and will see his transcendental glory. If this happens I know he is my Lord. And with Sita Thakurani with the Arathi tray. He asked Sita thakurani,”What’s that?  Is that the case? Is it the Lord. The arathi tray. You can’t worship him.”Hari Bol. 

And then Advaita hid in the village. Then Lord Caitanya said,” Nara Nara sharedwan come out I know you are there.” And Advaita came out & Advaita offered his obeisances. Lord Caitanya put his lotus foot on his head. And then Advaita looked up and he saw Lord Caitanya emanating so much effulgence and he knows this is my Lord and offered Arathi to his Lord for 21 hours nonstop. Hari bol hari bol hari bol hari bol Gauranga Gauranga Gauranga Nityananda Gauranga Nityananda Gauranga Nityananda Gauranga Nitai Gaura Hari bol Hariiii bol (devotes chanting) (devotees howling).

Those ladies who know how to do the ulu dhwani they should teach your foreign sisters how to do it. This is the sound made by the angels in heaven. The female angels. 

I asked the sevaite in Shantipur if he has the Sali gram sila and he said, “It’s there but some other son has it.” There are 6 children of Advaita. 3 are pure devotees and 3 are not. So the descendants of the 3 are Krishna consciousness. One of the descendants of Advaita Gosai is Vijay Krishna Goswami and he is a famous yogi devotee. He is like the 10th generation. Now they are on the 13th or 14th. So it’s like the 3-4 generation back. So he had predicted that the world will be filled with the sounds of the Mridanga. The world would be Mrindangamay. That was one thing Srila Prabhupad brought all around the world, the drums.  

The Lord Gauranga he told his brother, mother to observe Ekadashi and mother Sachi observed Ekadashi. In Navadvip Parikrama in Madhuramdwip they go a place where Lord Ram, Sita and Lakshman they were under huge banyan tree and there Lord Ram he smiled so Sita asked him why he was smiling. Then he said in Kali Yuga “I will appear here in a golden form”. In this Lila as Lord Ram I have banished you to the forest and I worship a golden form of you. And in Kali Yuga I will banish myself to the forest and you would worship a golden form of me but for Sita it did’nt sound very good for her. So the place where we go tomorrow is the place of Advaita so there Lord Chaitanya , Lord Gauranga met with his mother for the first time after taking sannyas. There he had some past time, his mother asked him not to go to Vridavan now but to stay in Jagannath Puri and go to Vrindavan for short visit later because Vrindavan is very far I won’t get any information but Jagannath Puri it’s close so I can get regular information. Like that the three prabhu’s took rest there also. The three Prabhu Vishram Sthan is there and also Madhavendra Puri he came to Advaita’s ashram. There he and Advaita they met and discussed KrIshna katha. So Advaita took initiation from Madhavendra Puri. The festival we go to is on the tribhav of Madhavendra Puri. That’s called Govinda Dwadashi .And by being there one gets Krishna Bhakti or Govinda Bhakti. Just by on tomorrow’s tithi by eating prasadam there how many of you would like to get Krishna prem or Krishna Bhakti by eating by eating? (Devotees screaming Gauranga), So any questions if you have  question written you can hand over it to Mahavara

Devotee: Advaita Acharya Prabhu had six sons and three were non devotees so how is that  Advaita Acharya Prabhu could have non devotee sons because He is maha Vishnu himself how is that he could have three non-devotee sons? 

Jayapataka Swami Maharaj : He wanted to show that there is no guarantee what kind of children you get. The first three are devotees so very good. One acharya is itself very good. Bhakti Vinoda Thakur had Srila Bhakti Siddhanta Sarasvati Thakur that is itself a great gift. One day Bhakti Siddhanta Sarasvati Prabhupad he said he would have one hundred children if he would be guaranteed all become devotee. So that’s why it is so important for the parents to have devotee child. The Garbhadhana Samskara is the purpose for prayer to the Lord for a devotee child, they observe the Garbhadhana on the day authorized by Shastra. They raise the child with affection and love and train the child in devotional service.

Devotee: What are some of the benefits of serving prasadam to the pilgrims at the Shantipur festival?

Jaypataka Swami Maharaj: Well everybody that eats gets Govinda Bhakti so just  imagine what you get by serving facilitate all those people to get Govinda Bhakti (chants Haribol). We know that anyone who does serves they all are in absolute platform whether they distribute prasadam, whether they pay for prasad, whether they eat the prasa, cook it. Everybody is on the absolute so this is our chance to help Advaita Gosavi (Haribol). 

Devotee: We heard that Srila Prabhupad use to visit shantipur before he left India to go to the western to start sankirtan movement, did Srila Prabhupad visit Shantipur after that after establishing ISKCON headquarters in Mayapur did he get to visit Shantipur after that?

Jaypataka Swami Maharaj : The Shevait Shanti  Shakagoswami he showed me a letter, many letters written by Srila Prabhupad to him from American from India. He was in regular communication and if he didn’t get land in Mayapur he was thinking of making his headquarters there in Shantipur. And that Shanti Shakagosawmi he agreed to give a piece of land just by the three Prabhu’s vishram sthan. But other members of his goswami clan stole those letters and he didn’t have any of them. But as you know I saw them after beginning the Mayapur I don’t know exactly if Srila Prabhupad visited there. I think you can ask Harisauri because sometimes I came out with Srila Prabhupad sometimes I wasn’t with him. So he could have a stop. I don’t know.

Devotee: When was the first Shantipur festival that ISKCON organized?

Jaypataka Swami Maharaj: I guess we have try to figure it out. Shanti Sakha goswami he had approached me and said that previously the Ramdas Baba group was doing the festival but they cease to do it, now ISKCON is the largest. So I’m approaching you do you to like to do it? Whereas Lord Chaitanya has promised simply by eating to give love Krishna prema.  So I thought it was a good deal. After Ekadasi go there take little Prasad, give out some prasad and chant Hare Krishna and you get love of Krishna. It’s all win win.

Last question 

Devotee: Guru Maharaj, Should we accept food which is cooked by those who eat meat?

Jaypataka Swami Maharaj: Srila Prabhupad was instructing us and he said better to avoid water but if you have to take water. You are really starving then take a piece of fruit but you have to cut yourself with your own knife. The best is don’t take. But sometimes we buy food and Srila Prabhupad said if you purchase food then you don’t get the karma but you may get some of their mentality. He was teaching how someone who is meat eater, cow killers and non-cow killers so persons who are basically vegetarians but not devotees he could eat pakka food that means food cooked in ghee like puri but only from initiated vaisnava who are practicing take food which is kacha that means boiled rice.

Devotee: Advaita Acharya some of his sons are the student of Lord Chaitanya. Want to know more about them.

Jaypataka Swami Maharaj: I just know that of all the children Achuthananda was excellent and the best and when he was a baby he sucked the toe of Lord Chaitanya. Gauranga, Gauranga, Nityananda, Advaita Gosai
