20221101 Addressing Surat Devotees

The following is a class given by His Holiness Jayapatākā Swami Mahārāja on November 1st,2022 in Śrī Dhāma Māyāpur, India. The class was given to the Surat Devotees, India.

mūkaṁ karoti vācālaṁ paṅguṁ laṅghayate girim
yat-kṛpā tam ahaṁ vande śrī-guruṁ dīna-tāraṇam
paramānandaṁ mādhavaṁ śrī caitanya iśvaram

Hariḥ oṁ tat sat!

Hare Kṛṣṇa!

Jayapatākā Swami: I would like to welcome all of you to Mayapur!

Mei āp sabhi kā svāgat māyāpur me kartha huin!

And Māyāpur is known as audārya-dhāma.

Audārya-dhāma means the land of mercy.

Lord Krsna, He gave His mercy to those who surrendered.

But He came again as Lord Caitanya, and He took the heart of Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī.

He took the color and mood of Rādhārāṇī.

Therefore, He was known as Gaurāṅga!

Gaurāṅga!

And He gave out His mercy freely.

He did not analyze who was qualified, who was unqualified, He gave out the mercy to everyone.

And He requested everyone to chant the names of Kṛṣṇa.

But in Kali-yuga, He does not come as a proclaimed avatāra.

Although one time He revealed to His followers that He is Kṛṣṇa.

That was, you see Advaita Gosāñi was an avatāra of Lord Mahā-Viṣṇu and Lord Sādaśiva and He had prayed to Lord Krsna to come.

So He wanted to prove to Him that He was actually the answer to His call.

So, one of the brothers of Śrīvāsa told Advaita that the Lord whom You fasted for, whom You called out, did pūjā for, He has come. 

And at first Advaita was dancing in bliss, “Oh, the Lord has come! He has come!”

But then He became very serious.

“How do I know it is true?” I will hide in the village.

And then if He calls Me spontaneously, then I will know it is Him.

I will offer My obeisances and He should put His lotus feet on My head.

Then He should show Me His transcendental form.

Then I will know He is My Lord!

And then His wife, Sītā Devī, she was carrying a plate of worshipable articles.

He asked, “What is that for?” “If He is the Lord, You will need this!” she said.

Then they ran out.

And so they came to the village where Lord Caitanya was.

And they were hiding. 

But then Lord Gaurāṅga, He called out “Hey Nāḍa! Nāḍa! Come out! I know You are there!” 

So then Advaita ran out and He offered His obeisances.

And then Lord Caitanya put His lotus foot on the head of Advaita.

Advaita looked up and saw the effulgent form of Lord Caitanya.

And for 21-hours, He offered ārati!

And Lord Nityānanda was holding an umbrella for Him.

So many pastimes happened in those 21-hours.

That was the only time Lord Caitanya revealed that He was Kṛṣṇa.

Individually, He revealed to some devotees, some form of Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa or Lord Caitanya with six arms.

You probably saw in Jagannātha Purī, the house of Sārvabhauma Bhaṭṭācārya.

Lord Caitanya stayed there for 24-years.

He took sannyāsa when He was 24 years.

Then He was in Jagannātha Purī for 18-years.

But after one year He went travelling around India for six years.

In the last 24-years, six years of travelling and 18 years in Jagannātha Purī.

And according to Svarūpa Dāmodara’s note book He also visited Gujarat.

And there He visited Dvārakā. 

Anyway, we are very happy to welcome you to Māyāpur-dhāma!

And Rādhārāṇī created this dhāma.

And Kṛṣṇa said this is not different from Vṛndāvana.

And all the holy places were brought here by Lord Kṛṣṇa.

I don’t know how long if you will be here, if you will have time to visit the holy places.

So you went for Ganga-snāna!  You have to be very careful when you go to the Ganges. [paragraph]

We do our special five-day vratā, Bhīṣma-pañcaka in the last five days of Dāmodara month.

Very nice you are all doing the vrata.

Bhīṣmadeva was the son of Ganges.

So a part of the pūjā is to bathe in the Ganges every day.

Of course, if you are not where the Ganges is there, then any water you can invoke the Ganges by chanting three times, Gaṅgā! Gaṅgā! Gaṅgā! And pour the water on you.

Question: I got initiated in Vṛndāvana this time by you and am very grateful. Had a question – I was very young and was in Māyāpur and you asked me if I wanted to preach to the youth. I said, “Yes!” I have been trying to but it is a little difficult, the youth around me are a little difficult I felt. But I will try doing it online through social media – Instagram, Facebook. And somehow, I am reaching out to a lot of people. I wanted to ask how is it that I maintain the mood purely to be preaching and not fame. Because I know that people know me. So how do I keep the mood pure, just for your pleasure and for helping to spread Krsna consciousness and not as a means for my fame. 

Jayapatākā Swami: The fact that you are considering this is good.

But since what you are doing is on my request, and you want to be empowered, you just think that only by the mercy of Lord Caitanya, my guru, am I able to do this.

And without Their mercy I could not have done nothing.

In that way you will always stay Kṛṣṇa conscious, stay humble.

If you think you are doing, then you will be finished!
