20201119 Medinipur Nāmahaṭṭa Initiation

The following is a Medinipur Namhatta initiation by His Holiness Jayapatākā Swami Mahārāja on November 19th, 2020 in Śrī Dhāma Māyāpur, India.

mūkaṁ karoti vācālaṁ paṅguṁ laṅghayate girim
yat-kṛpā tam ahaṁ vande śrī-guruṁ dīna-tāraṇam
paramānandaṁ mādhavaṁ śrī caitanya iśvaram

Hariḥ oṁ tat sat!

Jayapatākā Swami: How it was told to Haridāsa Ṭhākura that both following and preaching are required. Now, if all of you are able to hear, please raise your hands. Haribol! Haribol! Now the vows that were taken are the duties that we follow. 16-rounds chanting, four regulative principles. Now preaching is to assist me in fulfilling Śrīla Prabhupāda’s instructions. Now, Lord Caitanya’s saṅkīrtana movement is going on this earth.

pṛthivīte āche yata nagarādi grāma
sarvatra pracāra haibe mora nāma

(Cb. Antya-khaṇḍa 4.126)

So you should preach this to your friends, relatives, colleagues, so that everyone can become a devotee. This way, Lord Caitanya’s saṅkīrtana movement will spread and be distributed. Those who practice and do not preach are bhajanānandīs. Those who practice and preach they are called goṣṭhy-ānandīs. They want the number of devotees to increase. Who of you would want that the number of devotees should increase, please raise your hands. ? This way, it was Lord Caitanya’s desire that number of devotees expand. Patita-pāvana-hetu tava avatāra: You are the most merciful incarnation, this was what Narottama dāsa Ṭhākura sang. There is no one more merciful than You. Locana dāsa Ṭhākura said, parama karuṇa, pahū dui jana nitāi-gauracandra. Now, you will all think and try how to expand Lord Caitanya’s saṅkīrtana movement. This will be your sādhana. Acara and pracāra, practice and preaching, both are necessary. Now Gaurāṅga Prema Mahārāja, he said this. Now in Midnipur there are many saṅgas but not all, there is scope for more. So that all get kṛṣṇa-bhakti, and all get peace, bliss, this is what we desire. In the ādhivāsa-kīrtana there is a mantra – ānandera sīmā nāi, ānandera sīmā nāi, nirānanda dūre jāi, nirānanda dūre jāi. We desire ānandera sīmā nāi, everyone feels this bliss. Everyone is thinking of many things. But everyone is not thinking of God. If we think of God, then there will be ānandera sīma nāi, unlimited bliss. But those who do not think of God, they only have nirānanda, suffering or no happiness. We desire that nirānanda, suffering go far away. That will be if we think of Kṛṣṇa, do devotional service, take Kṛṣṇa’s name. Yesterday one lady, Śrīla Prabhupāda’s disciples said that Śrīla Prabhupāda would invite everyone to join in kīrtana and then gave everyone prasāda. This way gradually joining in kīrtana and taking prasāda, their minds became purified, and they all became devotees. There was a family in which the lady, the children all were devotees, but not the husband. The doctors diagnosed and said the husband was suffering from cancer suddenly. It was in stage three or four. He could die any time. He heard this. In his bedroom, there were three or four scary looking men who came in through the wall and they look like demons, they had long teeth and had leather ropes in their hands. They were very strong. They came close to him, and he started screaming, “No, no, no, not me, not me!” Then those people disappeared. The man called his wife, “I want tulasī beads, I want chanting beads, I WANT Bhagavad-gītā! Immediately! Immediately, please give me!” What we could not do in so many years, in a few minutes the Yamadūtas succeeded in doing and he became a devotee! Anyway, we hope that you will be able to make many people devotees, before the Yamadūtas arrive!! We don’t want that they go to hell. We want that they should go to God. We want they should go to Goloka. Haribol! Haribol! Gaurāṅga! Nityānanda! Anyway, those who are taking initiation, you will practice, follow the rules and regulations and preach as well.
