The following is a class given by His Holiness Jayapatākā Swami on May 30th 1992 in Freeport. The class begins with a reading from The Bhagavad-gītā chapter 4 text 5.
Translation: The Personality of Godhead said: Many, many births both you and I have passed. I can remember all of them, but you cannot, O subduer of the enemy!
Purport: In the Brahma-saṁhitā (5.33) we have information of many, many incarnations of the Lord. It is stated there:
advaitam acyutam anādim ananta-rūpam
ādyaṁ purāṇa-puruṣaṁ nava-yauvanaṁ ca
vedeṣu durlabham adurlabham ātma-bhaktau
govindam ādi-puruṣaṁ tam ahaṁ bhajāmi
“I worship the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Govinda [Kṛṣṇa], who is the original person – absolute, infallible, without beginning. Although expanded into unlimited forms, He is still the same original, the oldest, and the person always appearing as a fresh youth. Such eternal, blissful, all-knowing forms of the Lord are usually not understood by even the best Vedic scholars, but they are always manifest to pure, unalloyed devotees.”
It is also stated in Brahma-saṁhitā (5.39):
rāmādi-mūrtiṣu kalā-niyamena tiṣṭhan
nānāvatāram akarod bhuvaneṣu kintu
kṛṣṇaḥ svayaṁ samabhavat paramaḥ pumān yo
govindam ādi-puruṣaṁ tam ahaṁ bhajāmi
“I worship the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Govinda [Kṛṣṇa], who is always situated in various incarnations such as Rāma, Nṛsiṁha and many sub incarnations as well, but who is the original Personality of Godhead known as Kṛṣṇa, and who incarnates personally also.”
In the Vedas also it is said that the Lord, although one without a second, manifests Himself in innumerable forms. He is like the vaidūrya stone, which changes color yet still remains one. All those multiforms are understood by the pure, unalloyed devotees, but not by a simple study of the Vedas (vedeṣu durlabham adurlabham ātma-bhaktau). Devotees like Arjuna are constant companions of the Lord, and whenever the Lord incarnates, the associate devotees also incarnate in order to serve the Lord in different capacities. Arjuna is one of these devotees, and in this verse it is understood that some millions of years ago when Lord Kṛṣṇa spoke the Bhagavad-gītā to the sun-god Vivasvān, Arjuna, in a different capacity, was also present. But the difference between the Lord and Arjuna is that the Lord remembered the incident whereas Arjuna could not remember. That is the difference between the part-and-parcel living entity and the Supreme Lord. Although Arjuna is addressed herein as the mighty hero who could subdue the enemies, he is unable to recall what had happened in his various past births. Therefore, a living entity, however great he may be in the material estimation, can never equal the Supreme Lord. Anyone who is a constant companion of the Lord is certainly a liberated person, but he cannot be equal to the Lord. The Lord is described in the Brahma-saṁhitā as infallible (acyuta), which means that He never forgets Himself, even though He is in material contact. Therefore, the Lord and the living entity can never be equal in all respects, even if the living entity is as liberated as Arjuna. Although Arjuna is a devotee of the Lord, he sometimes forgets the nature of the Lord, but by the divine grace a devotee can at once understand the infallible condition of the Lord, whereas a non-devotee or a demon cannot understand this transcendental nature. Consequently these descriptions in the Gītā cannot be understood by demonic brains. Kṛṣṇa remembered acts which were performed by Him millions of years before[haribol], but Arjuna could not, despite the fact that both Kṛṣṇa and Arjuna are eternal in nature. We may also note herein that a living entity forgets everything due to his change of body, but the Lord remembers because He does not change His sac-cid-ānanda body. He is advaita, which means there is no distinction between His body and Himself. Everything in relation to Him is spirit – whereas the conditioned soul is different from his material body. And because the Lord’s body and self are identical, His position is always different from that of the ordinary living entity, even when He descends to the material platform. The demons cannot adjust themselves to this transcendental nature of the Lord, which the Lord Himself explains in the following verse.
ajo ’pi sann avyayātmā
bhūtānām īśvaro ’pi san
prakṛtiṁ svām adhiṣṭhāya
sambhavāmy ātma-māyayā
Although I am unborn and My transcendental body never deteriorates, and although I am the Lord of all living entities, I still appear in every millennium in My original transcendental form.
Jayapatākā Swami: (*repeat translation*) The Personality of Godhead said: Many, many births both you and I have passed. I can remember all of them, but you cannot, O subduer of the enemy!
So, in this verse with quite a long purport. Many different very confidential aspects of the Supreme Person are been revealed. Bhagavān, nature here is confidential nature is explained by Śrīla Prabhupāda.
In the pastimes of Caitanya Mahāprabhu, we can see how the Lord has also come and He knows who, all His different devotees are, even in the previous pastimes. But they don’t remember. From Lord Caitanya has been worshipped as we sing this evening prayer (kibā) jaya jaya gorācāńder āratiko śobhā. When Lord Caitanya is being offered in āratī for 21 hours by Advaita Gosāñī. At that time is called the Mahā Prakāśa.
Lord Caitanya revealed to different devotees who they were in previous birth. Murāri Gupta came and then Lord Caitanya blessed him and, all of the sudden Murāri Gupta saw Lord Caitanya was no longer Lord Caitanya, but he became Ramacandra and that Nityānanda became Lakṣmaṇa. He looked at himself and he saw that he was Hanumān.
Then he was so shocked, he fainted, too much! [Devotees laughing] and when he came back to consciousness again, he was Murāri Gupta. And Lord Caitanya was changed back to Lord Caitanya. So, when Lord Caitanya knows what different devotees were born for many births. But he never forgets, but the devotees they forget.
So, when Bṛhaspati wanted to join the saṅkīrtana movement of Lord Caitanya, he decided to take birth in Navadvīpa also. He took birth in Vidyānagara and he set up there school. But by the influence of all the Māyāvādīs at that time in Navadvīpa, the advaita-vādīs, he himself also became absorbed in advaitavāda and he went to Jagannath Purī and started to preach advaitavāda there until Lord Caitanya came and saved him.
So, when Lord Caitanya knew that some of my devotee Bṛhaspati came from svarga participate in My pastime. But somehow, he’s got over here in the Jagannātha Purī, so He delivered Sārvabhauma Bhattācārya. Bṛhaspati took birth as Sārvabhauma Bhattācārya. So He wanted to study for seven days under Sārvabhauma Bhattācārya listening to Him when in Jagannath Purī.
But in the end, He very diplomatically was able to deliver Sārvabhauma Bhattācārya who then became one of the chief devotees of Lord Caitanya. This was a big shock to see like the head of the university of all the advaita-vādīs in Jagannātha Purī, all of a sudden dancing in the street chanting
Hare Kṛṣṇa Hare Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa Hare Hare
Hare Rāma Hare Rāma Rāma Rāma Hare Hare
People were amazed to see them. So, when these other devotees take appearance, they forget who they were in the previous birth or the pastime. This is by the yoga-māyā if in that case, of course by mahā-māyā in the case of ordinary conditioned souls. But Lord Caitanya He doesn’t forget.
There’s a famous story about the brāhmaṇa who came visiting the house of Jagannātha Miśra, worshipping his Gopāla deity. It’s quite a well-known story how this one traveling men became brāhmaṇa he came to the house of Jagannātha Miśra. Jagannath Miśra began to discuss with him Kṛṣṇa-kathā and this brāhmaṇa was very austere, he would daily offer various berries and fruits in the forest and offer to his deity. But he had a vrata, he would not eat until he offered to his deity. So he is, wanted to make an offering as some fruits to the deity. But Jagannātha Miśra said please be guest in our house every day you’re eating fruits and berries. When you come to our house, as our guest, you must offer some rice and dāl and some nice offering to your deity.
So, while he arranges, they arrange all the ingredients for their offer. So, he personally prepared for his deity nice offerings and around 12 ‘0 clock it was ready to be offered and he put a plate before the Gopāla deity. And he went in to meditation. In meditation he was doing avāhana, āvahayāmi Gopāla, please come Gopāla, Gopāla come, Gopāla come and accept this offering. He opened his eyes and their Lord Caitanya, the village small child like 3 years old. He’s there instead eating the offering [Devotees laughing]. No no no! Oh no! Oh, you ruined my offering. And then Jagannātha Miśra looked and he saw that his baby Nimāi was eating the, the child Nimāi was eating the prasāda, the bhoga.
So that brāhmaṇa thought now the offering is spoiled. This boy has eaten that before I finished the offering. So Jagannātha Miśra went and said Nimāi! And he went to get Namai. Nimāi saw his father and ran, hid under here, ran over there, that father trying to get him, Nimāi come here, he’s running after [Devotees laughing]. I’m gonna teach Him a lesson, what are you doing, eating our guest’s bhoga before it’s offered to his deity. And then the brāhmaṇa saw, oh this beautiful little child running and His father trying to catch Him and give Him a good thrash or something. So, he ran and he’s to grab Jagannātha Miśra, no no please! Don’t he’s a innocent child, he doesn’t know anything about right and wrong, He didn’t know anything, He just came and ate it, doesn’t matter. It’s I’m used to fast anyway just give me some flower some, you know fruits and offer to my deity, that doesn’t matter. Don’t! Please don’t harm this child, not His fault.
So, then Jagannātha Miśra, everyone’s go, please you must nice offerings, you know we are guest house in the you know allow this to go on if you don’t take something. You must offer some nice offering, just fruits won’t be enough, fruits and roots won’t be enough. So then, they insisted very much so he agreed again and said okay I’ll do again. Then they all ran, cleaned up the kitchen and brought new vegetables, clean the pots again, again he prepared the whole new offering.
So, this time offering was ready about 6 o'clock in the evening. This time he has took Lord Caitanya away. The ladies asked why you are eating, this time the Lord Caitanya was sleeping in one room, on the side. So again, he brought the offering out then he was again starting his avāhana, requesting Gopāla to come, Gopāla come, take this offering. Again, He’s out of nowhere, didn’t see that where he came from, he opened his eyes, there was Nimāi eating the offering again [Devotees laughing]. He said no no no! And Jagannātha Miśra couldn’t believe it, again? The second time? [Devotees laughing]. This time he picked up a stick, alright Nimāi, now you had it and then you know he was running after Nimāi. And Niami went here and there hiding underneath the table, underneath stand again. But again, that brāhmaṇa, he grabbed Jagannātha Miśra no no please! Don’t, don’t harm this child, that doesn’t matter. It’s all will of the Supreme, don’t harm this child.
So Jagannātha Miśra, he was very frustrated, couldn’t feed his guest, he felt himself very unfortunate. In India there’s a, there’s a saying from the Vedas ‘Atithi Nārāyaṇa’, we should serve our guest like Nārāyaṇa. So, he was feeling that I couldn’t serve the guest properly. So, for him it was very disturbing. And this time the brāhmaṇa was insisting, no you just give me some fruits, roots some other, I’ll just offer.
And just at that time the elder son of Jagannātha Miśra came and then he was about 14 or so at the time of 15. He was very beautiful boy, very handsome, very effulgent and when he came in the room that brāhmaṇa couldn’t believe, he just was immediately attracted to him, Viśvarūpa. Actually, Viśvarūpa is the incarnation of Śankarṣaṇa, he is all attractive, he’s also all attractive in nature. So that brāhmaṇa is very attracted, he said who is the lucky parents of such a divine child? What a, what quality! Then of course, he’s also the son of Jagannātha Miśra and Śacī mātā.
So Viśvarūpa when he heard everything that happened, he came with very sweet voice he addressed the brāhmaṇa said, My dear brāhmaṇa we are very much blessed by you, we are touched also there’s we’re living in the material world. In this house we’re all living here to our family and you are a very renowned men became going place to place wandering and preaching and worshipping a deity and living in just some, various things from the forest, you’re very austere. So, we are very blessed by your presence. So, you’re very austere but we are very attached. So being very attached, we are very attached to feed you [GM: laughing]. We’re very attached to giving you some nice offering and if we don't have this opportunity to feed you nicely then we’re all feeling very upset. (Not clear 16:23) completely fell on. So, you are being very renounced, for you it’s nothing that you fast like this one day. So we just humbly request that out of your extreme mercy and unparalleled good nature, you just kindly one more time just make offering and offer to your deity. We’ll keep the child in the next house somewhere away from here.
So, he was so smoothly nicely presented by Viśvarūpa that the brāhmaṇa he couldn’t say no, he said okay. Again, Jagannātha servants like, he agreed! They all jump off cleaning the kitchen, wash the pots one more time, bring more rice, more vegetables, more ghee and everything. So again, the brāhmaṇa started cooking. This time he finished around midnight. So, when he started cooking, they took Nimāi to the next house. And then the brāhmaṇa ladies, you being a brāhmaṇa boy why are you stealing from this, taking this priest’s offering? And he start revealing, I’m a cowherd boy so alright for cowherd boy to take brāhmaṇas offerings. They said What do you mean a brāhmaṇa boy? A cowherd boy? They couldn’t understand, of course Lord Caitanya is Kṛṣṇa Himself. He knew that, didn’t understand what His statement really meant.
So, this time when the brāhmaṇa finally finished his offering, the cooking. He looked around, nobody was there, completely quiet, everybody gone to sleep. He took the offering, placed it before his Gopāla deity and again he went into his deep meditation in trance. And he prayed Gopāla please come and take this offering. While he was meditating, he opened his eyes, there was Lord Caitanya again eating the offering. Why you are so shocked, you’d be calling, I’d be coming [Devotees laughing]. But that I’m calling Gopāla! And then [Devotees laughing] who do you think I am? [Devotees laughing] And He changed His form there He was standing (Not Clear 18:24) playing His flute, threefold the tribhangi bending, threefold bending form. And the brāhmaṇa was astonished, there was his worshipable deity, his iṣṭa-devatā, he been worshipping his whole life and now he was seeing face to face Gopāla.
So, he prayed his obeisance’s again and again and offered again. He couldn’t believe that how blessed he was to see Gopāla. Then after he became calm after sometime then Kṛṣṇa spoke to him that you come to Me in every birth. You come to me in every yuga, when I was in the house of Mother Yaśodā you came there also and did similar pastime.
So, I was in Rāmacandra you came at that time also you did the same thing. See whenever Kṛṣṇa come nobody His parents never think He’s God. So that idea doesn’t come until much later it so long. But in Lord Caitanya He was very secret. In other pastime also some people knew that it wasn’t publicized like that including parents they don’t think like that, they think He’s just a child.
So, this brāhmaṇa was coming every time the Lord appears like that in His human-like form and had of His whole childhood pastimes. He would come and do this similar kind of offering and Lord would take his offering.
So, Lord Caitanya revealed this to him. Kṛṣṇa in form of Kṛṣṇa He was speaking, you come in every pastime. So now again you came in this pastime. And now I come to the world to give the mercy to this conditioned so that they can get love of Kṛṣṇa. But I’m come now as the devotee, so you cannot reveal this to anybody. If you don’t reveal anybody you can stay here in Navadvīpa, you can watch the pastimes unfold everything. But if you tell anybody before I leave the world, what happens? Who I am? Then I may have to remove you from this world early [Devotees laughing].
So then Lord Kṛṣṇa blessed His devotee, He changed His form back again to the Caitanya child form. And then He went back into His room and went to sleep, take His rest. So, the brāhmaṇa he was so ecstatic and he, and you know his hairs were standing on end, he was so blissful how the Lord had just revealed Himself to how actually the offering was personally accepted by the Lord. So, in his so ecstasy he just started taking that prasādam, that, that touched by the Lord Himself, he start rubbing on his arms, head! Haribol! Haribol! Haribol! Haribol! [Devotees laughing].
So, when he was screaming, all the people in the house they woke up and they came out and they’re looking and he is rubbing the dāl and rice on his arm and he’s like Haribol! So, way he must be real hungry you know [Devotees laughing]. And they all look at, he looked around he sees everybody and he can’t tell them what happened because he know and that’s the thing he can’t tell. Instead eating his prasādam and everybody saw how now he was eating, they all very satisfied, Atithi sevā (Not Clear 21:19) Our guests have been served and Jagannātha Miśra and everyone they went back.
So, Lord Kṛṣṇa He knew every pastime, every birth that this devotee was taking, but this devotee couldn’t remember. And this is the nature, you see we have some service, some eternal relationship with the Lord and the devotee may even take birth many times serving the Lord directly, don’t remember. So, we can’t put the Kṛṣṇa and the devotee on the same level at all, never can they be equal. So, the Māyāvādīs they say that God and the devotee become one, they’re the same. But the Vaiṣṇavas say they’re non different, the same quality is there sat-cit-ānanda, but devotee is very small, he’s always depended on the Lord.
So, Lord is very great, He’s always independent. This is the difference between the devotee and the Lord. That is the Lord is worthy of giving us shelter, we take shelter of the Lord rendering Him devotional service. And these verses in the Bhagavad-Gītā important for us to come with the conclusion that come with the very clear understanding about the transcendental nature of Kṛṣṇa.
It just like when I was coming from the JFK this morning there was some big sign, some insurance company it said, solid like a rock, something like that eventually. There was a big rock of Gibraltar. So, we felt here’s the propaganda the insurance company is trying to make their customers feel like a very solid like we put my money on life insurance scheme and they’re so solid. I can depend on this company solid like a rock of course we don’t know maybe they’re dangerous or not [Devotees laughing]. That’s the propaganda they’re doing the publicity that we are. That idea is like that, people want to put their confidence in something very solid.
So, when we’re going to surrender to Kṛṣṇa then we have to be very sure that Kṛṣṇa is the absolute truth. Like in India usually sometime you find in people’s pūjā room they got Kṛṣṇa, they have Rāma, they have Durgā, they have Kālī, they have Sarasvatī, they have Lakṣmī Devī, they have got this baba and that baba. And they have so many you know and when you say why you’re putting so many?
They say we don’t know who the Supreme is so someone may be this way like somebody must be there a right one, so [Devotees laughing]. We can’t lose you know, but that way you see is not actually the most effective way. Because we can never fix our mind properly. So Kṛṣṇa He’s clarifying here in Bhagavad-gītā very clearly. You take shelter of Me ‘mām ekaṁ śaraṇaṁ vraja’ you take shelter of Me, I’ll protect you, you see. So, in our pūjā room we put Kṛṣṇa in the top. He is the origin, He is the ‘Govindam ādi-puruṣam tam ahaṁ bhajāmi’ and in other expansions, other devotee, viṣṇu-tattva can be understood like Rāma and Viṣṇu, Nārāyaṇa and other devas like Śiva and Brahmā and Indra and Vāyu and so on, they’re in the lower level. They’re under the shelter of Kṛṣṇa, they’re just like ministers in government.
So, devotees are very clear how everything is related and they take the full shelter of Kṛṣṇa so they don’t have any confusion. And this way so when we know very clearly, who is the Supreme then we can take shelter of Kṛṣṇa directly. We can be more protected, we can be more clear in our devotional service. And this would bring us to the, to the desired end very quickly.
So, Caitanya Mahāprabhu He taught that people should take shelter of Kṛṣṇa. His teaching is that Kṛṣṇa is the only Supreme Lord and others are His servitors, everyone else is serving Kṛṣṇa. So Kṛṣṇa is Supreme ‘ekeha kuru-nandana’ when we are completely fixed on Kṛṣṇa, then Kṛṣṇa gives us also complete protection. He said ‘ye yathā māṁ prapadyante, tāṁs tathaiva bhajāmy ahaṁ,’ according to how you approach Me, I will reciprocate with you. It’s like a, who was a devotee that the one rishi, he didn’t know who the Supreme was. So when he was praying he just say Īśvara, Lord, his mind he didn’t know whether Brahmā, Śiva or Viṣṇu. So, because he was confused in his own mind the three appeared to him at the same time, Brahmā, Śiva and Viṣṇu. So, then they became the Dattātreya, the three in one. He really didn't know who was the Supreme. He was just saying you know like Lord meaning, he’s thinking in his mind may be Brahmā whoever the Supreme, He should show up. But because he was vague in his mind all the three came. So this guess would be the problem, when we don’t know who the Supreme is, then it’s like if give you address for letter and we give address you know New York, no street address, no postal code. It’s become difficult to reach the exact path, many lanes in New York state, or USA. So, the more clear you give the address you’re sure it gets to the right path. That’s why now they give the zip code special, all kind of codes gets right to the destination. So also, in the Vedas ‘Oṁ’ Omkara means you’re giving address to the Param Brahmā, Absolute truth. Oṁkāra means Absolute truth, that’s the first address Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.
So, I’m offering this to Bhagavate, I’m offering this to Bhagavān, to the Supreme Lord. Who, which Supreme Lord? Vāsudevāya, who is the son of Vasudeva? That means Kṛṣṇa. So, see address is complete, you want to give the complete address so that our devotion go right to the place where it’s intended. And it gets the maximum benefit. When Kṛṣṇa says I’ll reciprocate with you, that we give our full devotion and He gives us full protection ‘na me bhaktaḥ praṇaśyati’, that if we give the general devotion then He may also reciprocate in also in that way. So, this is not so beneficial for us.
So Kṛṣṇa is clearly telling Arjuna to clear all the doubts, why Arjuna should take shelter in Kṛṣṇa? So we should also know from them. When the Lord Caitanya was in the mother Śacī’s womb, when He was in the womb of mother Śacī. Then the devas from heavenly planets from svarga they came to see Lord Caitanya. They’re offering prayers and they prayed to him that You come in every millennium in a different avatāras form. You come as Varāha, Matsya, Kūrma, come as Nṛsimha-deva, Rāma, Kṛṣṇa, Kalki, each of these avatāras. All the Viṣṇu avatāras You give mokṣa to Your devotees, only Viṣṇu can give mukti, not Śiva, not Durgā, none of the others can give, only Viṣṇu.
So the devas they’re saying You give mukti in Your incarnation, other previous incarnations as Viṣṇu, but in this incarnation we understand you’re going to give bhakti. Bhakti is better than mukti, you’re going to give your pure love. See giving liberation is easy, if I say somebody is in the prison house, freeing him from the prison, that’s easier than if you free him from the prison and you adapt him as your child. Or you give him a job in your house and accept him as one of your intimate own people or one of your family member something like that. That’s a completely different level of freedom. So, giving liberation just means freedom from birth and death but that doesn’t mean that Kṛṣṇa is further obliged. He gives liberation and His, His duty is finished. But when he gives bhakti, when He gives love. Love is the continuing relationship it’s the ‘dadāti pratigṛhṇāti’ it’s the giving and reciprocation. It’s like the small child gives love to the parents, the parents give affection to the child and the, there’s a relationship grows and grows. So, the nature of devotion is such as continue as very big relationship which grows. So that Kṛṣṇa doesn’t give. Kṛṣṇa is the only one who gave that and that was given very rarely. Matsya and Kūrma and others they don’t give, they give liberation. But Kṛṣṇa He give also bhakti but only to those who completely surrender to Him.
But these devas, these visitors from other planetary systems came to see Lord Caitanya when he was in womb of His mother. We discussed last time, real they were very interested in extra celestials. So, we discussed of all the different extra celestials they came to visit Lord Caitanya when He was a child, it’s quite a history. I don’t know if people in Freeport are interested in those things [Devotees laughing]. It’s a lot of flying saucers, South Americans very interested.
But these were some extra celestials who came here from the higher planetary systems of Svarga-loka. And they were praying to Lord Caitanya before He took birth when He was in the womb of His mother. But this time when You take birth, we want to join in Your saṅkīrtana movement. We want to be blessed by You because You are giving love of, this rare love, prema was never given before so freely as how You are going to give it and why You are going to give it?
So, we want to get this mercy from You. So being your devotees but because we are in the higher planetary systems there it’s not so rough as it’s here on earth, we have very good life there. We don’t have any need for material blessing we are not asking to give us anything material. We got so much sense gratification so much material facilities we for enjoying which the, not even no need any more material benedictions. Rather we just had two problems, we only have the problem of, that occasionally the demons attack us and we have to defend our self. Another problem is that because there’s so much material facility to enjoy, we forget our spiritual nature and we get absorbed in the bodily consciousness. And we just think that these physical sensations are all there is the life and we forget the real transcendental joy and ecstasy of serving You. And this is the greatest suffering. So just be in some superficial pleasure to the point when you forget your actual real spiritual profound ecstasy, that is the most distraction of all. So now because You are appearing to deliver all the fallen souls you are going to deliver everyone. Please, will we be the only one’s to miss out. You deliver here all the human beings and we are in the higher planetary systems, we won’t get your mercy, please don’t forget us, please give us your mercy also.
So, in the higher planetary systems they could see that the Lord was coming in many different births and each birth He was transcendental but each appearance of avatāra incarnation of Godhead has its own particular nature. Nomenclature, and they could see that. So, they wanted to take advantage of the mercy of Lord Caitanya, he’s the most merciful incarnation of Kṛṣṇa. So, the devotees they serve the Lord birth after birth and the Lord takes birth many times also, but His birth His appearance is out of His own potency as it was explained in the next verse.
Although I am unborn and My transcendental body never deteriorates, and although I am the Lord of all living entities, I still appear in every millennium in My original transcendental form.
He comes down from the spiritual world far beyond this material world just to come here to enlighten us. He’s not coming here like we are because He’s got some material purpose to do. He’s only coming because He wants to deliver from this material world and give them His mercy. Sometime in this material world we get infatuated with the things in the material world and think that these are, for everything we become very proud of our situation or very enwrapped in the whole things. Probably heard of the richest frog in the world.
See one time in India there was the, there was a small lake which is very beautiful scenic, lake had many lotus flowers. There are many frogs living in that lake. But on one side of the lake there was a ghāṭa, a bathing area. And every morning the king elephant would come and take his bathe in the lake, his mahout his attendant would bathe in. So, one of that very intelligent frogs in that lake in the morning, he started to wander about on the shore and he found a, a half a rupee right there on the ground, someone had left it. So he went and he sat on top of (croak) and he started to contemplate that I’ve got more money than any other frog in the whole world [Devotees laughing]. What frog is given a cent to his name [Devotees laughing] what to speak of a half of a rupee [Devotees laughing]?
But for those in those days half a rupee was much more than a billion [Devotees laughing]. So, then he started to contemplate you know, now that I’m the richest frog in the world I have to, I can live up to my new formed position. So, what do I have to do? I have to do something; I can’t just sit here and do nothing right? Being so rich. So, he said I have to think about not just myself what about the other frogs? what about their condition? What about the economic inequality that exists in society? [Devotees laughing]. What about the prejudice? What about frogness, frog right [Devotees laughing]. We have to see for the frog rights in the world that the frogs live peacefully, victory for the frog! [Devotees laughing] victory for the frog! Zindabad! So other frogs started gather around, he started to tell them yes now we’re gonna have a new agenda.
Devotee: Is this frog in Bengal?
Jayapatākā Swami: Yes bengal. [Devotees laughing] We have to end the inequality against the frog’s prejudice. And the first thing is, this elephant cannot come anymore in our own pond. He can’t any bath around and blow through his trunk and make waves. I don’t know what think he is, what about the poor frogs? We get just carried like nothing. So, I, the richest frog in the world here by saying no more elephants, forbidden. The elephant came with his attendant, and so he’s coming in. The frog he didn’t know whether to leave his coin or stay their cause if he left the coin, he may have to lose his whole position because that was just kind of made up.
So here the elephant is coming, so first he tried croaking out you know, Oh elephant! Oh elephant! [Guru Mahārāja making sound like frog and devotees laughing]. But the elephant wasn’t paying any attention you know what’s speaking of something frog croaking and making any difference for him, so big.
So, the frog was.. ''What’s happening you know; I have to do something.'' So, then he, you know (croak, croak) [Devotees laughing] he jumped up and leaped on the leg of the elephant. The elephant… you know little frog bouncing up his leg would be like, you know throwing a lotus petal on someone, didn’t feel anything. The frog bounced up the elephant leg and the elephant without even knowing, squished the frog. That was the end of the richest frog in the world [Devotees laughing]. True story [Devotees laughing].
Let’s pray for his soul. By His Divine Grace Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura 100 years ago. [Devotees laughing].
But we all see, this is the thing we get like that frog you know sometime just like people they get all stuff. They all thinking I’m gonna change the whole world, everything’s gonna change. They come and they think that by their own power by their own little intelligence or fame, there something’s gonna change everything. And the end they just get squatted by time. They get squatted by the over warming force of the material energy which just doesn’t respond to their own desire, it’s far beyond their control.
Kṛṣṇa is the all-powerful, if we are in touch with Kṛṣṇa, He can change everything, He has the power to change everything. But any others of this material world, their powers all limited by various things involved. Even though a very great great personalities could nowadays very rare to find such powerful people who are able to change the things very gradually. Those who are actually able to make a long-lasting change they would have transfer by being in touch with the Supreme Personality of Godhead.
I couldn’t, I mean people that are the most famous in the world are even the great religious teachers like Jesus Christ or Hazrat Muhammad, Kṛṣṇa, I mean Arjuna, all these great, Prahlāda, cause the persons have taken shelter of the Supreme Lord have been able to change the life of people, change the destiny of the world. So, we have to avoid getting in to the syndrome of this richest frog in this world. We get a little bit of education, or little bit of power, little bit of some, may be someone becomes a famous sports person or movie star or something, they wanna change everything. But they only ultimately, they only able to do very small money and in the end, they get swept away. But if we use whatever we have in the service of Kṛṣṇa we actually get in touch with Kṛṣṇa. That’s when you can actually move mountains, that's way you can change the future of the world, you can change the people.
Like Prabhupāda said that years ago to the devotee that there could be a world war world between Russia and America, the way things are heading. So better you preach in Russia, you can, everything can change all of a sudden, completely can change.
So, the devotees took that up and they were like 10,000 devotees preaching in, in Russia, in Britain, but they are distributing books and government printing press that in the night time they were printing Bhagavad-gītā in all different languages. Devotees are getting caught and arrested, going on underground, massive underground movement. That one point that trim ankle? Trinov? Triman? Trimankle?
Devotee: Trinovo?
Jayapatākā Swami: No! Not Trinovo, that’s.. The Triman, triman I guess before underport or maybe it’s underport one of the two. He announced that the biggest danger, he said that the, you know two number one enemies to the Soviet, thing the biggest influences in their society people will, Hare Kṛṣṇa movement and rock and roll.
Devotee: in a Rock?
Jayapatākā Swami: Earlier what, you know rock and roll, you know these boys of America and British you know these everyone’s got to live, where is the Hare Kṛṣṇa?
Why did he say like the number one or number one enemy and you give them, what you gave them freedom where were they?
And there were there and that you know they knew that they were there, they knew that they were changing the whole vibe of the society, the outlook of the people. Anymore, and he told that all the devotees you know whole Russia is gonna change you know then and ever whole world could believe that. But now it’s completely changed, completely different, whole system was changing. Nobody can know you see why for us? We know the reason why because the karma of that country was changed because millions of people were getting Prabhupāda’s books, they were hearing the mantra, the whole karma of that subcontinent will change, on the chanting of
Hare Kṛṣṇa Hare Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa Hare Hare
Hare Rāma Hare Rāma Rāma Rāma Hare Hare
So, we can actually see that the whole world can be changed if we take shelter of Caitanya Mahāprabhu’s movement. Caitanya Mahāprabhu predicted that every town and village of the whole world will be engaged in chanting His holy name. He told that He wanted to inundate the entire world with love, completely everyone be flooded with love of Kṛṣṇa. If you love the original person, everyone’s a part of Him, we love everyone. This was missing in the society today, it’s a big race rights and all kind of, now people are not coming up to the real root of the problem. It’s just the education in the world today is all bodily centered. We are all being taught we were this body. People are being trained you are white, you are black, you’re American, you’re Russian, you’re Chinese, you are Indian. You are this, nobody is being trained you are the eternal living force in the body, this body is a superficial, the real self is the living force, this is eternal.
Sometime you may be born in this color body or that color body, this nation or that nation, but the living force is the real identity. And the living force is a part of the Supreme spiritual, origin of all forces, Supreme Śaktimāna. If this basic education was given, we can come to world without prejudice, without hatred amongst races, without all these types of misunderstandings. But as long people are trained you are the body, and then you’re this nation, you are United Nation, but there’s always fighting going on between the nations. Which border, which rights will be there, so this way it start off with 72 nations when they start off to 46 or something? And now there is 152 and so nations noticed. I’m not adding every day, might be kind of 155.
Devotee: or more!
Jayapatākā Swami: So Prabhupāda says it’s not uniting nations, it’s dividing nations. It’s not uniting the world, just like politics we can’t unite the world, we can unite the world by love. And that’s what Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu is giving a real substantial spiritual love.
So, this is, in this verse it explains that how the Lord is transcendental to this material world. Since He is transcendental to the material world we can, we can put our complete dependance on Him. The material world may change, things may come and go but He remain solid. In India people generally like to get job in the government because it’s, is a very, you never get fired. People don’t do much work, you can just kind of somehow pull on, there’s lot of pension and others. So, thing is if he works for the government that’s like very secure. But in, I was in some country in South America and the government doesn’t have any money. They can’t pay to people, they say work and get paid behind 6 months, they don’t have money to pay the people, a joke [Devotees laughing]. So is this you know very crisis situation, they’re working for government but they don’t pay, government has no money. So there’s you know, then they go on strike and what the government do? There’s a crisis situation. The people are looking for this kind of security, but where to find it? So real security is actually when we understand that Kṛṣṇa is transcendental, His government, His transcendental situation is Acyuta, infallible, that never deteriorate, it never changes. So, if we take shelter in Kṛṣṇa then we, we’re in the most solid position.
Like say, sometimes the Lord sends His devotees here. We see how His Divine Grace Śrīla A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda was sent to this material world in order to give us the message of Caitanya Mahāprabhu in the western countries. This is also predicted in the Caitanya Maṇgala that Lord Caitanya would send commanding devotee, leading devotee to spread the message in the countries where people were more materially entangled, distant countries far away from India.
Lord Caitanya personally preached in India and He sent the leading devotee to the other countries to save the people who were lost in material modes. And so Prabhupāda came first here to New York and established the first center 25 years ago, 26 years ago, established ISKCON 25 years. And therefore, for him New York is like a type of a kīrtana, cause this was the Prabhupāda’s first started the movement. And you know, a big apple offered it to Kṛṣṇa. Personally, we’re not been able to serve here, continue the preparation of that offering, that was the Prabhupāda made a B-plan stay here and he started from here spreading all over to rest of the world.
So, he was sent by Lord Caitanya to give us this special mercy. You all gonna feel overwhelming and mind boggling how things can change. At the same time the things have to change because just like we went to situation in America, with Los Angeles and go to New York we have a great (Not Clear 47:30) Chicago, that’s a big race rights and everything after the recent one of the (Not Clear) decision. This show that how fragile the whole society was, how violence, so easily able to rob and crave the man suffering and people.
And when this idea it’s like, instead just drop of the hat people like don’t stop dancing in the street, [Devotees laughing] doing kīrtanas and embracing each other in ecstasy and this is what happening in Lord Caitanya's presence.
But when Lord Caitanya went into the jungle and start chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa. All these ferocious animals lions and tigers, elephants and pythons, and you know innocent like deer’s, they all of a sudden became so overwhelmed by His chanting. They became so filled with the loving a sentinel that they started to actually embrace each other. They even started to, you know smell each other’s noses and everything like a lion and the tiger sneaking each other noses you know, practically licking each other you know embracing and rolling in the ground and the whole scene of, it looks completely overwhelmed in love. People who were with Lord Caitanya they couldn’t believe it, the whole jungle which is you know.
I was just preaching in southern Bangladesh and we had a program in the harinagara which is in just at the border of the Sundarban. And just 4 kilometers from our program one person under the program and at night he was taking manage everybody being in the program nearly 30,000 people are visiting to our kīrtana everything in Bangladesh. There about 15, 20 devotees from all over the world, Kṛṣṇa kīrtan in a whole, in a group. So, there’s 30,000 people and this one person he saw well everybody else in the program, I didn’t go in the forest and get the honey.
In Sundarban there so many big honey (Not Clear 149:16). They go in the forest to get the honey, so this is my chance, I have no competition. So, he goes in the forest but he get eaten by a tiger [Devotees laughing].
So, like the tigers are, oh my God you know they told me there all the people team lives on tiger. Tiger in Bengal is something like a from the head to the tip of the tail it’s more than 15 feet long, the royal Bengal tiger. You know weighs like almost, I don't know half a ton or a ton or something like it’s huge. They says that in the forest it came like, make it like a cat or just you know small it’s like small it just sits in the shadow when he was these like bamboo leaves and except the stripes we can’t see it and it just waiting. This both mango combined to the teach to go to the jungle looking for the honey bee where the bees are with the flashlight you know, the tiger is (roaring). He was like a long you know, grabs behind the neck [Devotees laughing]. So normally tigers and these are you know very ferocious situation in jungle. And even the tigers they could be caught completely overwhelmed with love and everyone could be, all the animals could be overwhelmed with love.
That Prabhupāda says Lord Caitanya could do this inconceivably thing with jungle animals, you know we can’t do that. But if we can reach, give little bit of this loving mercy of Lord Caitanya to the human beings, get them to chant, Prabhupāda gave, that should be enough.
So now here like in, in Europe doing this, they’re taking the, a band around and they chant the whole night Hare Kṛṣṇa with electronically amplifier mṛdangas, guitars you know drums and kartālas and everything and they do the whole kīrtana. And they get 5000, 6000 peers to come and lot of dance the whole night, Hare Kṛṣṇa! Amplified [Devotees laughing]. Idea is by trance in metal vibration. This theory there just the idea that I’m the spirit soul, we can realize it much easier.
Because we’re getting a happiness it’s not dependent on the body. It’s for happiness is not dependent on, normally we get happiness only somebody takes drugs or take drink or they have some physical experience on roller coasters like, there’s some obvious physical cost for their pleasure. But this amount of happiness people get when they’re chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa and dancing, the inner peace that they’re feeling, the deep spiritual bliss that they get doesn’t required with this. You know they were jumping up and down blissful they won’t get on the charge anything, but they get so much happiness chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa. And then they start regards the, they start to realize that there’s a whole other dimension to existence which they just done already, they haven’t realized.
So, this chanting has opened the door to mystery of life in a way that nothing else can. People now are not ready to go out and you could also do it if you were in Himalayas, meditate, achieve lifetime in a cave you know, but who’s gonna do that?
Nobody can do it nowadays. Now the people, (Not Clear 52:41) they cut all the trees down there for paper, building dams, they got the tourists the helicopter is going over you know which shall people the mount Everest (Not Clear 52:50). So even you go and meditate (helicopter sound) [Devotees laughing]. It’s Kali-yuga you know it’s not, it’s not like what it use to be. You cannot sit anywhere in the world externally but you can get actual peace by chanting
Hare Kṛṣṇa Hare Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa Hare Hare
Hare Rāma Hare Rāma Rāma Rāma Hare Hare
I can go on, but maybe I'll open up for questions.
Any questions?
There are so many tests, but the point is Lord Caitanya wanted to get what is the essence. Sarva dharma, doing the jñāna-yoga, karma-yoga, surrender to Kṛṣṇa, all these things were not accepted as Kṛṣṇa is complete in Himself. And we got to the point actually the hearing from a pure devotee the glories of Kṛṣṇa. This is, this is purely spiritual, this will open our minds if we hear about the glories of Kṛṣṇa, know Kṛṣṇa is completely transcendental.
So, this material world when the worlds created, maintained it’s like Kṛṣṇa is always there, He’s never is affected by all these changes. Remembering the qualities of Kṛṣṇa, hear the greatness, His kindness, how He came, how He interacted with His devotees and such a beautiful way how He came as Lord Caitanya. These rasas the mellows, ecstasy, the love between the Lord and His devotees is so wonderful. With this hearing about these things are very important for awakening people, now people are dormant.
In the previous yuga society was very well organized, the duties of the different varṇas and āśramas was very well arranged. Now where in the, in New York, where is varṇāśrama?
What do you mean they say sva-dharma.
Then you’ll say that sva-dharma of the Los Angeles or the sva-dharma of which people came as their sva-dharma you have to still become the member of the game. Why you know it’s like this, the concept of sva-dharma is far beyond, beyond, they don't have any idea what is attached with someone already living in a varṇāśrama.
The varṇāśrama today is very much shattered by Kali. So that’s why we need to re-establish the type of daiva varṇāśrama. When people become spiritually awaken then we can organize some institute, their own duty as devotee as, in according to the āśramas as the student, as married, as retired, the renounced.
According to the nature then they can do this sva-dharma as they, according to their nature, according to what their occupation. So, with this a long-term program, Prabhupāda said we want to establish this. But to do that the first thing is people have to be spiritually awakened. Unless the people are, the whole purpose of varṇāśrama, whole purpose of sva-dharma as you mentioned is, way that they should have Viṣṇu bhakti. The purpose is to please Viṣṇu, to please the Supreme Lord.
So, the people barely believe in Supreme Lord, they don’t have any desire to please Him in general. So, if we have them already accept by Kṛṣṇa consciousness to please the Lord, then automatically people wanted to know what is proper way of organizing society. What is the orders of life, what is the duties of each type of occupation. Then things can be very easily organized, we’re taking it from a different angle.
In the Vedic time it is that varṇāśrama up to ah, Viṣṇu bhakti. And now since varṇāśrama is no longer, at least in the rest of the world, may be there’s some remnants in India, in Bangladesh and few places. But hardly very much accurate anymore, but some remnants are there. But rest of the world there’s nothing at all. So, people need first to be now Kṛṣṇa conscious, you mean God conscious and there if Kṛṣṇa conscious in automatically you can establish, what is a varṇāśrama in a spiritual sense. Not in a, just like you see, say someone born in a brāhmaṇa family.
So, they’re saying that they are jāti-brāhmaṇa, but they may not be acting as a brāhmaṇa. They may be eating meat or they may be doing any occupation, but they are called jāti brāhmaṇa, because they are born in a brāhmaṇa family. Which is perverted to nature of varṇāśrama.
But in the Vedas it says that according to what the person is doing, he should know whether he’s a brāhmaṇa or kṣatriya or vaiśya or śūdra by his quality of action, not simply by birth.
In Gītā, Kṛṣṇa says ‘guṇa-karma-vibhāgaśaḥ’ by quality and by work. Many case you have this jāti-brāhmaṇa, the other person you have to say someone is initiated by guru and he’s given the brāhmaṇa initiation, he’s trained. Then he becomes brāhmaṇa, he becomes a spiritual brāhmaṇa by initiation. So, the spiritual brahmin is today more, is more important, more effective than a jāti brāhmaṇa who’s just is not doing his sva-dharma. If a jāti-brāhmaṇa becomes brāhmaṇa in this age it becomes very nice, but the real important point is to have a spiritual brāhmaṇa, spiritual they have work for the welfare of others. So, then he can train people very easily about their duties. Once they accept, they have a duty to become spiritually awakened. Until you reach that point then everything else, it’s to the generally not practical right now.
As a devotee, our sva-dharma is to serve Kṛṣṇa. We should serve Kṛṣṇa so according to whether if someone is householder, he’s working, he’s maintaining his family. For his sva-dharma he has to maintain family at the same time he has to go on serving Kṛṣṇa. He has to give some help to the temple, he has to help other people to become Kṛṣṇa conscious as far as possible. He should help his family to be Kṛṣṇa conscious, wife should help husband and children to be Kṛṣṇa conscious. They just, they should be side by side material and spiritual both should be going on. It’s like two tracks for the train or you cannot go in the center, it’s the two-track system, but they both lying parallel. So, we have to use the material and the spiritual side by side, then we can properly progress. And this is for those who’re having a jobs they comply because they have a financial need.
If somebody is living like a monk or you know, brāhmaṇa just doing pūjās and something is much more simple existence, he doesn’t have to worry about all these things. But this is very small infinitesimal percentage of the people can live like that. Because sometime the most people they're working to maintain themselves and family. So, then they have the duty that from all the work there should be engaging their energy in Kṛṣṇa’s service so they can get their spiritual effort.
Just like a cycle, right now there’s recycling, ecological. To recycle that to increase the in a spiritual sense, we have to recycle all the energy we gets from Kṛṣṇa, we give it back. And we get again we give it back to His, create a kind of a spiritual syndrome which elevate. And if we take from Kṛṣṇa, don’t give back then we’re stealing and so then that’s against our sva-dharma. So, our spiritual sva-dharma is if we’re getting some money use it for Kṛṣṇa, we give back to Kṛṣṇa according to guidance of our guru, according to our situation. We maintain our self at the same time we do service with our mind, with our body, with our words, with our profession to Kṛṣṇa. So, this way you can be purified, we can remain spiritually contact, we can be protected from the reactions of the karma. Otherwise, whatever we do materially we get wrapped up in the karma, chain and effect, chain and reactions, of chain and action. But if you’re doing for Kṛṣṇa then there’s no.
*indistinct conversation*
What we do with our time and energy, what’s the occupation, it’s like kind of a convertor. You’re converting your energy into money. You’re working and you're getting paid for the work and with that money you’re buying this and that and thing you do.
So, some people are that they're doing some work for the artists or the musicians they can do a painting for Kṛṣṇa. They can sing song for Kṛṣṇa or maybe someone is working in accounts maybe they can do accounts to Kṛṣṇa. Many people they’re just working maybe doing business and making money. Then they can use some of the money for Kṛṣṇa. And that’s in the same way as artists doing something profession if they’re getting and giving to Kṛṣṇa. That also the way of recycling the energy with Kṛṣṇa and keeping that link. Keeping that, their connect, their work is also connected to Kṛṣṇa. Say that you gave 1%, 10% to Kṛṣṇa, it just something. So that was also like a shareholder and an entrepreneur.
In fact, I was in south India recently and one gentleman he told, yes, we’re very proud that Kṛṣṇa is one of our directors, board of directors. So we put him on the board of directors, a make sure every year and the dividend, we give the percentage and we go year and we give it to, that dividend in the huṇḍi of the Bālajī temple, at Tirupati. He is specially on board of directors, he’s a shareholder.
*hearty conversation*
So, there’s some people they like some aspects of Kṛṣṇa consciousness but they still go on doing the forbidden activities. And they wonder why I’m not getting a taste for devotional service. Why I’m not getting a taste for the chanting? Why am I still being disturbed by the material nature?
We need to take the shelter of Kṛṣṇa. So that means sometimes we have to give up the bad habits. But there’s some people under the modes of nature, they want to go on doing bad activities like the boy wanted to go on chewing the tobacco, yet they still do little Kṛṣṇa conscious. So, for them the effect is very slow, very negligible sometimes.
So, some people say we should depend fully on Kṛṣṇa, we don’t need to do anything, we just depend on Gaura-Nitāi’s mercy. And some people they’re saying we have to do the sādhanā. According to our sādhanā, Kṛṣṇa will bless us, we don’t need any special mercy, we just need to do our sādhanā. According to all what we do, Kṛṣṇa will give us the blessing accordingly. So, this is like baby kitten philosophy and baby monkey philosophy.
(aside:) You understand? What is the baby kitten philosophy? You know? Or the baby kitten philosophy?
The Cat theory is the kitten by the back of their neck. What does a kitten do? It just hangs there, doesn’t do anything. So that’s the philosophy that we don’t need to do anything, Kṛṣṇa will bless us.
Some of the Christians of Angeles they say like that. Just accept Jesus and that’s all you need to do. Then a monkey, baby monkey holds on to the mother, mother doesn’t hold on to her baby. Because she’s jumping from one tree to next, she needs both the hands.
So, baby monkeys they just hold to the mother. You ever seen a baby monkey?
They hold on to their mother?
So that’s like the philosophy that we have to do everything, we don’t need any special mercy. We just do the sādhanā and accordingly we’ll get our blessings.
But the actual philosophy is like rope in the well philosophy. It’s like if we fall into a well and we can’t get out, we need someone to throw us a rope to pull us out of the well. And when the rope is thrown, we also have to hold on the rope. Both from our side we should hold on the rope and from the other side they should be pulling it out. Both the cooperation is needed, this is the actual process of Kṛṣṇa consciousness.
From our side we do whatever we can, we do our sādhanā, we do our devotional service, we serve the guru and Vaiṣṇavas, serve the deities, we try to do, even if we’re not able still we try, just for the pleasure of guru and Kṛṣṇa. And the other side we’re always hoping up on hope for Kṛṣṇa’s mercy.
So, like someone falling in the well, is Kṛṣṇa, He’s pulling us out, Kṛṣṇa is pulling us from this ocean of birth and death. So, we also need His mercy, just on our own effort we can’t get out. So, this combination is the actual process of Kṛṣṇa consciousness, is the middle way. It’s neither kitten or monkey?
It’s a well in the, rope in the well. Combination of the devotee’s desire and the Lord’s mercy, both are needed.
So that means that as devotees we have to also try our level best to do devotional service, at the same time we never think that there’s enough. We always are depending on mercy of Kṛṣṇa to actually complete our Kṛṣṇa Consciousness.
So, it’s a rare human life and with this human life if we take this mercy of Śrīla Prabhupāda and Kṛṣṇa then we can achieve the highest perfection. As Kṛṣṇa said in this verse, he attains my spiritual nature. Simply by seeing how the modes of nature are working and knowing the Supreme Lord who’s transcendental to the modes of nature. Why we can take shelter of Kṛṣṇa because He’s above māyā. So, He is solid, this māyā is changing all the time, but Kṛṣṇa is solid. So, we, we can always take the shelter of Kṛṣṇa.
Thank you.
Hare Kṛṣṇa!
